  • My top 6 Indoor Plants that are growing in just water without soil.
    Growing plants in water, whether houseplants or an indoor herb garden, is a great activity for the novice gardener (great for kids!), people with limited space or an aversion to messy dirt, and those who are plant watering-challenged. This method for growing plants is not only low maintenance, but disease and pest resistant.
    Many plants grow easily in water, an often used method of propagation. Some folks choose to root houseplants in bottles or the like. An indoor water garden may often consist of clippings from existing houseplants in bottles covering every surface available, to a couple of growing plants in water perched on the kitchen windowsill.
    Growing plants in water allows for a greater flexibility in arrangement and can be accomplished in most any type of receptacle that will hold water. Growing houseplants in water may be a slower method than soil-based planting; however, the indoor water garden will remain lush for a lengthy period of time.

    I remember years ago I had a nephthytis white butterfly I think it's called, we had a little mishap, and a branch broke. So I put the baby in some water and put her next to her mom. When I woke up the next morning the mom was holding the baby up! This plant seemed so intelligent, I had it for years. I have to admit, that arm coming down to hold the baby up blew my mind! Magical creatures plants are! I miss mine 🌱

    Oh I love this! I just recently took a few cuttings from my pothos and put them in water as a last minute attempt to save my plant as it's been really thin and not growing much of anything. I've had more leaves in a couple weeks on the ones in just water than I have with the original plant in soil for months!

    • @JesusismyGOD
      @JesusismyGOD 2 года назад +1

      Use a good quality fertilizer to make a vast difference! I just found some really good stuff last month and tried it. Wow! I can not believe the difference, like night and day!
      It says for Bonzai on the label, but it is for all indoor plants. I got mine for about 12$ and it is so gentle you can put it in the watering can and water it each week if you wish. I am really turned on to THIS brand. I have used others and not seen the kind of enhancement and life given to my Pothos that this brand does. I used the one with the monstera on the bottle, but they seem to be out of it everywhere around the world (commerce) even, so I got this one that says Bonsai but it also says indoor plants ( in general too). I have been using it and all all all my plants are super happy and have been given new life. It appears to work really quickly too!
      Also, I see some of the expert growers on mature plants use some Epsom salts that is pure magnesium, to grow and nourish their plants.
      Hope that helps!

      I’ve had pathos for years, and the only time I’ve had them not grow like crazy are:
      1) Not enough light.
      2) Wayyy too much water.
      3) Too big of a pot (water just sitting in soil)
      What helped me was to let it dry out completely one time, then soak it, and wait til the top 2-3 inches are dry to water again. If a week later the soil is still wet, the pot is too big. I would add some perlite to soil when repotting.
      Hope that helps!!

    My Monstera Delicioso is growing in water. It was already quite large already so needs a taller, heavier container so it won't tip over because of the tall stems. Planterina, on her YT channel, has grown her Delicioso plant in water as well as some other plants. When I saw her video, I decided to try the same.

    Hi! Very useful video! I have just started using leca with my spider plant. After seeing your video I am planning to convert my entire collections to leca. And I have some doubts. I would be really helpful if your respond.
    1) I saw you drilling holes in the container before adding leca, why is that? And I didn't see holes in this video's containers. Can I know the reason?
    2) I have fungus gnats problem in my plant with potting soil. I am currently treating it. How about leca? Is it pest free option?
    Thanks in advance 😊

      Hi, happy new year! Yeah putting a hole on your glass vase is optional but I highly recommend it. This hole will serve as your limit when watering to prevent your plants from drowning. Also it is useful for flushing your leca balls to remove some old fertilizer and salts. And regarding with gnats, that is my reason also why I shifted most of my plants into LECA. Using of leca will prevent you from getting any insects at home.

    I grew Sanseverias 'snake plant'. Known as 'Mother-in-laws tongue' in the U.K. 2 years ago using water. Warning! They lose the variagation. They don't grow the same as the parent plant. Just all green. They're still fine looking plants in themselves though. If you want it to be like the parent plant, you have to divide it as new pups develop at the base of the plant. Also! I put it in compost once the roots had grown strong. You won't see new shoots until the following year. So be patient. I was also able to cut it into 4 slices from top to bottom after roots had formed along the bottom, giving me a number of thinner cuttings. (Make sure you have roots at the bottom of each slice). These can be put in compost in 'one' 4 inch (10cm) pot. Each grew as an individual plant. Then you put them into single pots as the new shoots appear. Experiment both methods for yourselves using 2 leaf spikes, and compare. It's fun....Don't throw it away if you see no shoots. It does take time.

      Yes the variegation is a great way to know if the plant is original. The offspring will not have the yellow striping.

    love the calmness of this video, the clarity to see what you’re doing and variety!
    What type of fertilizer do you suggest using use with water propagation and afterwards keeping them in water.
    when do you remove the toothpicks from the snake plants? Does it harm the plant? thanks!

    • @thegreenearth

      Hi, I’m using the Flora Series Hydroponic Solution for all of my plants in LECA. For the snake plant, I remove the stick after it gets roots and repotted to leca. And the stick doesn’t hurt the plants.

      You can transfer to soil or continue to water until it gets more roots. But here in the video I am experimenting to grow in water only and see the result later on.

    Kindly advice which grow light should be purchased in UAE. Or can we put them in the indirect bright light.??

    • @thegreenearth
      @thegreenearth  2 года назад

      You can put your plants near the window that can received indirect sunlight or buy a grow light. You can do also both to get your plants enough light. I usually buy my grow lights in banggood and desertcart. Now, I ordered barrina grow lights and they said it is very good grow light. You can try that too.

    • @Arda-ox8pc
      @Arda-ox8pc 2 года назад

      You don't need a grow light in UAE. I used to live in Turkey and indirect bright light was more than enough there :) Now I live in Poland, hardly see sun here, so bought a grow light :)
