I disagree (respectfully) with your take regarding split screen. Can't tell you how often I'm watching a RUclips video while engaging in an active conversation on Whatsapp. Worked seamlessly. I found it very useful.
Watching this on my Pixel Fold, there's 3 more people out there somewhere! Also David for the keyboard, there's a little button to make it a floating keyboard and that makes typing soooo much easier on the inside screen without split keyboard.
@@tre655I'm gonna be honest I just got one. The battery life is not as bad as they say. Mine lasted all day while I was on RUclips almost all day. I charge mine at night while I'm asleep so I don't need my phone to charge to 100% in ten seconds
I agree with everything said. I use my fold 85 percent of the time with the outside screen. The other 15 percent I use for videos, pictures and IT support. Great review as always, thank you!
If you havent learned, the software kinks dont get ironed out even on the mainstream pixel line, Ironically. I seriously doubt it will ever be ironed out for a new category of a phone such as the fold.

I do have it since release date, I love it. I'm a casual user, I don't live on my phone, I do have a life, battery last a day, large screen is occasionally use for multi taking, great purchase!!
I’m amazed that INSTAGRAM finally has a large screen redesign and it came to Android first, that’s crazy. The app’s nav bar is now on the left side. My guess is it’s bc the galaxy fold is a large screen phone and not just a tablet that they decided to do something about it, aside from urging from google. I don’t know if it’s available on other android devices other than the Galaxy Fold
@@danielayanfe3592I don’t have a Fold personally so I had no idea until Flossy Carter showed it in a random video a few days ago lol. Still pretty big deal for them to budge on this considering iPad hasn’t had an optimized app for over a decade
I nave a fold3 so I already had whatever setting to make it bigger 3 years ago lol. So never noticed the resize update. I did notice the buttons on the side though. Thought it was for all phones lol. Don't remember when I got it, but I think I got the update a while ago. I do think I am enrolled in the Beta program, so that would make sense.
I use my inside screen for reading comics mostly. for my job, i have to not necessarily actively use two app, but i do need to look at information from two app at the same time, so its been useful for that as well. Id say i also use the inside screen ten percent of the time, but it is reeaalllly nice to have in those scenarios. Also i watch youtube videos on the outside screen in tent mode
@@kennethcox9883 DC Infinite and Hoopla are the apps I use. There are parts of both apps that aren't optimized for the larger screen, but all the actual comics do take advantage of the full screen, and it works great.
Yeah thats a lot of the points I have heard: The Pixel Fold is a normal phone with an occasional tablet mode. The Samsung Fold is a Tablet with an occasional phone mode.
Please keep making more updates about the Pixel Fold in the future! A device that's part of a unique category of products for Google is a great subject for videos, particularly if its about their evolution with time. Whether that's the devs optimising the apps, the system updates to Android or your general usage, it will remain a very interesting subject for discussions.
Pixel fold is the first phone I’ve seen in awhile that has me considering switching from iPhone. I love how the outside screen is just as high quality as a normal phone and then it’s just added value having it open into a tablet.
I’ve been an Apple fan boy since the iPhone 3 all the way to the iPhone 13pro, a week ago I bought the pixel fold and let me tell you the Apple has already gone back in part exchange. The pixel is simply phenomenal in every single way, it’s light years ahead of the Apple. The Apple for ease of use is better but I think that’s only because I haven’t fully mastered the pixel. If you are on the fence, trust me and make the switch….this thing is a game changer. One point, I had my IT company do the switch over in terms of contacts, music, WhatsApp etc and I’d suggest if you do switch to have a company do it for you as there’s no way I could’ve done it.
Pixel is not even competing. Not even the best software. I had to install MS Launcher to make it usable. The Software is a disaster, the hardware is even worse. I also have Samsung Fold 5, much superior in a aspects. I also used Xiaomi Mixfold 2 and 3. The device is weird, in a bad way. The font is weirdly sized, when set smaller it makes you doubt your vision - thanks to the inferior screen quality, and this is the cover screen. The white color is weird, making the text hard to read, even when night protection is off. The inside screen is inferior to all types I used. The hing not being flat is highly annoying even though you think that you will overlook it with time. Shuffling between the two devices (Samsung Fold5 and Pixel Fold) really highlighted the inferiority of Pixel fold). I do not believe the next generation will be good enough given how bad the current version is.
@@MrAlbusa3idi I have the pixel fold after leaving iPhone after over a decade. Yes the phone has its faults but it has little things, like the camera that are far superior in every way to the Apple. The Face ID and the auto text on the iPhone are way way better though and it annoys me on the pixel why it cannot fathom the words I’m typing like the iPhone did. Regarding ease of use, again the iPhone was better but I put that down to me just not having used an android phone previously. Once you open that middle screen up though, the pixel fold comes into its own, also the ratio is far superior on the pixel to the Samsung which I tested yet decided not to buy. Overall I love my pixel fold, I’d be interested in potentially moving back to Apple once they have a fold phone that can compete
I did exactly that. I've had iPhones from the first 1 and every other until now. I'm so glad I bought a pixel fold. It's far superior to Apple products by far.
I honestly LOVE the aspect ratio of the Galaxy fold's front screen. Its perfect for one handed use, and the OS works in a way that you DONT have to reach the tippity top of the phone for just about ANYTHING. The narrow aspect ratio allows the to quicky reply to a text, or navigate my phone's apps WITH ONE HAND quite easily. Yeah the aspect ratio is weird and takes some time to get used to, but just like going from regular flip phones made of plastic to smartphones took time, this does too
I do agree that the front screens aspect is good. My favorite thing about the inside is reading ebooks on Kindle. I just got the phone this past weekend but am looking forward to using dual screens for work applications.
Ive been using Samsung foldables for a few years and I must say the outside screen is awkward but usable and great for most things. On the go I never open my phone but whenever I'm stationary it's always the inner screen. I could never see myself going back to traditional style phones.
I find myself always going back and forth between multiple screens a lot so I feel like once I get my hands on one, I'd probably never go back to a traditional phone
I have a z fold 4 and I was super hesitant about the narrow outside screen (the reason I didn't buy a 1 2 or 3) but I've been pleasantly surprised how nice it is to use one handed. Would've never guessed it
I just got a galaxy fold for the first time and the outside screen is my favorite part of the phone. Easy one handed use, secure grip of the phone(from being so narrow), and the tall aspsect ratio shows so much on screen in vertical scrolling apps(which is pretty much most apps).
Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, websites etc all are oriented vertically which bodes well for the tall aspect ratio of the Z fold and the portrait tablet mode as well. And being narrow = greater "gripability"
I have big hands and it's uncomfortable to hold closed but I still use it a lot. A lot of apps have issues still but discord is just fucked half the time
For anyone that has a Google fold, Battery life has been so good since i installed Android 14 beta on my Google fold. Didn't expect it but it has been great. I average 6 hour plus SOT during a 18-24 hour run
Yes I've added Android 14 beta to my Pixel Fold I've went from just over 4 hours an half to around 7 hours lasting a day an half before charging videos RUclips emails.
I'm still on 13 but even so my battery life is still pretty great. I'm not upset by it. so once 14 officially releases I'll be pretty damn excited by even better battery life.
I feel like the way the Fold 4 opens into portrait solves many of the criticisms of the Pixel Fold. I bought a Fold 4 specifically to unfold it as much as possible as opposed to using the outer screen 90% of the time. Two different perspectives I suppose. The market is better with both options out there.
What criticism? I look at it as the Pixel Fold having the optimal design for a phone screen as well as the optimal design for a tablet screen. The last part is more debatable as some prefer portrait mode for tablets but I see tablets as consumption devices primarily, so you want landscape to watch videos and play games. Whereas the outside screen is for more smartphone specific activities from answer messages to finding the quickest route to a place nearby. In my opinion the Galaxy fold is not designed for either. It's only optimal in the sense that it opens apps designed for phones really well its tablet screen. Which seems like a weird priority since those apps don't benefit as much from the extra screen since they're designed with phone screens in mind as well.
Discussions like this are what sold me on a Pixel fold. If I got a folding phone I'd probably end up using the outside screen for 90% of what I do. This is the first folding phone where people don't just complain about the outside screen.
The split keyboard issue was my main gripe with my folding device, however gboard has a floating mode which is perfect since it maintains the aspect ratio unfolded, and when its folded it docks at the bottom properly.
If you're only using the inside screen 10% of the time, then basically you're paying the premium for a foldable for fraction of its use. It will remain a niche product until there is a reason why most people would want to have/use a big screen phone AND software support.
That’s why I like the galaxy fold I could appreciate it being a little wider but having a slender phone for one hand use and a larger inside screen for video and games is super clutch if you just want one device. I like it because it’s the perfect mini tablet and I’m more likely to use it over a larger tablet plus with galaxy there’s a lot of promotions from day one to get the phone for way less then retail.
That's the use. To have a tablet when I need a tablet which is rarely. It's a perfect use case for me. I have disposable income and saved for it. It's completely a niche luxury product.
Hence Google's push to get more support for that screen as this episode was discussing. If more apps support it and do actual useful and cool things with that screen space, people will start using it more.
The Z Fold 4 outer screen is sufficient for me. It fits my hand perfect and it’s not too large. Plus you can Hold the phone for with one hand when is open.
I'm pretty tempted by the Pixel Fold. I have to review PDFs multiple times a day for work, and having something that can be a great phone 90 percent of the time and a tablet 10 percent of the time sounds perfect.
I am a student too and use lots of pdfs. This dimension of this Fold is absolute perfect for this use, to read a lot. I would definitely buy it. Edit: lots of this
The split launcher design of thr Pixel makes it perfect to have a Microsoft Duo like multitasking experience. With that phone you can swipe any app to one screen and see the launcher on the other screen. Which allows you to easily open a second app next to it, as well as close one app and use the launcher to find a third app with the first app still open. I hope Google brings this functionality to their Fold because it's such a natural experience and behavior that once you do it once it just clicks and works for you.
Surface Duo users can take this for granted just how good it works. No foldable screen phone does this dual-pane integration like the dual-screen MS Duo. It takes 3 times as man commands to do it with my Fold4. Instant home screen accessibility, task switching one side only, maintaining the dual mode when exiting one... that's multitasking on purpose. There should be a dual-pane mode. Swipe 3 or 2 fingers across and back, mode on or off.
Interesting. I have been using a Z Fold for years now and the slim outside screen almost never bothers me. 85% of the time I use the open inner display. Also, no matter the aspect ratio, I would no longer ever purchase any phone w/o DEX. Killer app is DEX running on my computer. So the open Z Fold 4 is in a holder above my computer and you can copy and paste from computer to cell phone. Also the slim design of the Z Fold just fits better in my pocket. I rejoice that you three love your Pixels. Glad that there are choices. How does it feel to be part of the group who owns a foldable on which you mainly use just the outside screen?
You, I and many Fold users want a pocketable tablet which also can be used as a phone. The Z Fold's form factor is perfect for us because it is very pocket-friendly, and IMHO also very elegant when folded. The gentlemen in this round prefer a slab phone and not a tablet for the majority of use-cases. Therefore, a foldable just does not make sense to them, and they won't be able to judge how good a foldable is as long as they are not aware of the relevant aspects they have to look at: they always look at Folds as phones and not as tablets.
@@arvandvarahram i agree with this assessment. I do not want Samsung to change the size of the outer screen, but I want them to do is less Bezels on the outer screen, and the ability to have the S pen installed . And of course, upgrade the cameras a lil more ,maybe they would do this in the fold six.
@@demetriusthomas3577 Yes, the S Pen on the cover screen would be great. And an additional 10x zoom would be a dream. Just checked the bezels on the outer screen: this will be a challenge, but would be good, too.
So, here's a question: which one came first the chicken or the egg? Are you using the outside screen because the inside usability is so poor? Or are the fold users using the inside a lot more because the inside apps have been optimized for its use? I'm a folded user and I use the inside screen about a 90% of a Time
I think it comes down to what they said, Samsung Fold has a horrible outer screen (size/aspect ratio) that nobody wants to use, so they use the inside screen. Google Fold has a great outer screen (size/aspect ratio) so you only need to use the inner screen when you want to view something larger or multi-task. Personally I would never get the Samsung Fold due to the aspect ratio but I would get the Google Fold because the outer and inner screen are the perfect size, and I would probably mostly use the outer screen because it's actually usable and would use the inner screen for video or multi-tasking.
In my case the reason i got a fold was to have a tablet on the go, that fits in my pocket. The main concept of a foldable is to fold a big screen. I wouldnt want to carry a thick foldable phone 100% of the time and just use the tablet mode 10-20%. I use the fold’s large screen 80% of the time, and when i’m outside and need to quickly reply or take a call, the front screen is very useful for one handed use. In a way it solves two scenarios for me - folded it is a basic phone that’s easy to use one handed and unfolded i have a tablet with me.
I have a Lenovo tab 10 or 11 i think... and it has a "work mode" which makes the tablet super useful, you can work with "small windows" that look like the apps on an Android phone, but you can multi task! Have you seen this?! I'm so used to this tablet right now, that I'm afraid that the next gen doesn't support this same specs! It came with a keyboard and a stylus the keyboard works as a case. It's awesome i love it
I moved from the Surface Duo 2 to the Pixel Fold. It seemed like the best fit, as I am used to a similar aspect ratio. There are a few things the Fold takes and implements a little better than the Duo 2 but, multitasking is still something to be desired. If Google is going to make a device that multi-tasks only two apps at a time, they need to greatly improve how it's done. That was one of the main appeals for me. If Google fixes that, this would be a near perfect device for me.
Second day of owning the phone. Full stop it is an incredible experience, it's a great phone that turns into a tablet. Only gripe is it's a bit too heavy
I'm a LG V60 Dual Screen user since launch and I love it. The Pixel Fold is the only phone since that has interested me. I would love to hear from a V60 user or a faithful comparison. The price is by far and away from the V60s, which if you include the BOGO T mobile offered is basically $450. It's the biggest argument going against it tbh. But I love having 2 screens and I don't know where I'll go if I'm priced out of that.
The only reason i like the z fold is the form factor. I am buying the phone just so I open it. If i want to use the outer screen I would just get a normal phone. Also the z fold when open is just very comfortabke to hold and very balanced.
Interesting. Zfold 4 user here and I use the outside screen about 15% of the time. If I'm going to do anything one handed, I'd prefer have the tablet experience. I personally have enjoyed the narrower outside screen of the Fold. The rare times I want to do something quickly one handed, it's very useful. Especially after I added a magsafe ring and grip.
I can agree with the usage pattern of 90% outside screen to 10% inside screen, that's how mine's been used. But after a bit, why buy a folding phone with a big screen for 10% of the time? $1800 to occasionally look at photos is kind of ridiculous.... Yes, the Samsung Fold has a odd front screen, but the utility the software provides, and how it invites you to use the larger screen makes more sense for more of a "power user" Google has made a phone that more "standard" users can jump into and not feel overwhelmed, and maybe that is a good approach to bring users in, then increase the feature set as the product matures. However, the people buying foldables today want more utility out of their device, and its a big reason I am going back to the Fold 5.
this just shows everyone does NOT need a foldable. they are just in love with having the newish tech. For the average consumer, if you spend 1800 to use only the front screen, you threw money away.
I think you missed the point. I don't think a foldable is meant to use 50/50 for inner/outer screen. I personally don't think the inner screen is supposed to be used the majority of the time. It's there to use when needed such as watching videos, viewing photos, multi-tasking when you need 2 or more apps open at the same time, etc. Majority of the time you only open 1 app at a time so why do you need to open the phone for that? Like I'm not folding open the phone to view twitter for example. I'd rather use the front screen for that. Again, this is just my personal opinion/preference. There is always a few times a day where I'm just thinking it would be nice to open my phone to use a larger screen to multi-task. But by no means would I constantly be opening and using the inner screen. The premium is worth it to be able to open your phone a few times a day to do the task the way you want to. It's like a folding laptop, nobody constantly uses their laptop in tablet mode, but for those few times it's worth it. Right now I would never get an Android based phone due to the app quality, but once Apple announces a foldable I would highly consider it.
@@AndrewPL5no, he hasn’t. If these things cost about the same as a normal high end phone, then yes, you would be right. But they’re not really equal to a flagship phone, but cost almost 50% more.
@@melgross Yes, he missed the point. And to add, nobody ever said everyone needs a foldable...like when he said "this just shows everyone does not need a foldable". This is a niche product. And of course they are gonna cost more...there's more screens, more cameras, more batteries, research etc. I'm not trying to be right or wrong about anything, I'm giving my opinion.
I've been a fold user for 4 years now, I've not had a single issue with apps not making best use of the larger screen. I might only use the big screen 10% of the time, but that 10% is more than justification for having it 👍
I use my outside screen less than 10% of the time, but that's the point: The convenience of using a small phone with a large screen on demand. I guess it also helps saving battery power.
For my fold on the inside screen I use emulators to play DS Games, call of duty,Mario kart,T3, Final fantasy series and flash party. With certain applications you can change the orientation such as with Mario kart and you will get a full screen resolution. Same thing with the keyboard you can change it to be traditional versus split on both screens
Question. Why doesn't google have chromeOS as an option on the pixel? like Dex on Samsung? It just makes sense to do that and I would think modern CPU's could easily handle it. what do you think?
I’d be using it mainly as a dual screen phone more than a foldable big screen phone, but I wonder if I’d end up multitasking less than I think I would.
That's the proper shape for your kind of users. People who like the wider aspect ratio should stop disregarding the other side (the ones that prefer the ZFold form factor), which, if sales are anything to go by, are the majority. It's okay that you like the Pixel Fold, Oppo Find N w.e. better. I for one, who has actually daily a Fold for the past 2 years, prefer this form factor, because I want to see EVERYTHING in the big screen. So I'm 98% of the time using the big screen, and that's what I paid 2k for. Stop trying to force Samsung to also go that route. We don't want it and I like the fact that there's options out there.
@neetop1557 they have for the past like 2 years. I'm not talking US-only. The world isn't that small. The Fold is consistently outselling the other foldables.
@@RafaelSilva-yv3oh average people think in 2 categories, iPhone or Samsung. Plus all the marketing and influenzing, it's no surprise that Samsung trumps other android foldables.
I'm coming from a Z fold 3 on the shelf now l loving the Pixel Fold for everything love I can use both screens now more than ever. I'm running Android 14 beta my battery is on beast mode a day an half 7 hours on screen time almost 8 hours. No trade in only 900.00 Att no brainer love it.
If 90% of the time you're using the outside screen, I don't see the value of spending $800 more for that 10%. I used the inside screen on the Fold about 30-40% of the time, since by design, the front screen gives you more incentive to open it which is kind of the point
Though I love the design on the Pixel Fold, I think Samsung has done a better job optimizing apps for the inner display. I think that these two form factors will drive two different behaviors. Pixel Fold's passport form seems to be more for people that are smartphone 1st with the option to use the inner display for content consumption. Galaxy Z Fold seems to be for tablet 1st users with the convenience of folding down into a smartphone. I think the Fold makes more sense for productivity users. Heavy multitasking, messaging, email and document management. I start my day playing live news from RUclips, read the news from Google News and respond to text in Google Messages. Throughout the day, I use Chat, Messages and IG. I like to leave open Calendar, Gmail and Messages. With 2 sets of 3 apps split screen, I'm getting 5-6 hours of SOT when using the inner as my primary. When moving around socially, I use the cover display and get up to 8 hours of SOT.
I had the Fold , Fold 2, Fold 3 for 2 years and I can easily say that Pixel Fold did it right with its form factor. I can do all the phone stuff in the front display with ease. With a better resolution than even the Fold 5. I can open it as a tablet form to watch RUclips, Netflix ect. And it's already perfect to watch with out having to turn the phone like the Galaxy Fold. The Galaxy Fold forces you to open the phone for even the most simple of phone tasks. You really have to try the Pixel Fold for your self. I didn't think I could leave Samsung but at this point I'm so happy I did . I'm running my business and using it for entertainment, I'm loving it
@@mfwolf86 I would disagree, but I guess it is just a matter of opinion. The outside screen on the Samsung is so easy to use with one hand for texting and simple stuff. The inside screen with the thinner bezels and in my opinion, better aspect ratio is a lot better on the Samsung. The Google one reminds me too much of the Microsoft duo.
@@mfwolf86 I'm glad that the Pixel Fold is working for you. Based on the way I use One UI, I have configured the cover display and the inner display like two different devices. I have taken advantage of the level of customization within One UI and unlocked all of the features. There are things I just can't do on the Pixel Fold: Custom gestures: App switcher, screenshot and multi-window S Pen: Sign documents with the S Pen Private Share: send encrypted documents using the blockchain with self-destruct capabilities Triple split-screen for multitasking All 130 apps are optimized for the inner display Despite my love for the build of the Pixel Fold, the software doesn't suit me anymore. Samsung has it right for a power user like myself. I will have to wait for Google's Pixel Fold software to mature a little bit more before I make the switch.
@@loganhyler9588 Definitely difference in opinion but I'll leave it with this. The Pixel Fold is easy to use with two hands or one . The Galaxy Fold is almost impossible to use with two. And when you use apps that are not optimized for one hand like messages or Samsung settings it's impossible to reach the top with one hand...So why not have more options available with Pixel. And last the bezels, you don't notice the bezels when using the phone. And as ridiculous as it sounds the bezels actually help hold the phone...It's the same thing I would hear from people that didn't use foldables and would get bothered by the crease in the middle . You don't see it when looking at content. Take it from someone that has used both give it a try for yourself. I'm just giving you my experience
Living in NYC and taking public transit make the Z Fold aspect ratio great for one handed usage. With the Notes/S Ultras I was always worried about dropping it when using in the wild. With the Fold I'm able to have a good drip and no worries. If everyone wants the wide outer screen why not just use a slab phone?
My Pixel fold fell out of my pocket on the road and got ran over by several cars. The outer screen in the back were both destroyed. But the inside screen still worked fine and so did all the features Bluetooth, wireless, Wi-Fi, data.
So why spend $1800 for a smaller heavier phone? When I used the pixel fold, I was amazed at how much better the traditional phone experience viewing apps, etc was on my 6.7” iPhone vs the 5.8” pixel fold cover screen.
As a pixel user, I'd love a fold but you can't trust getting a first gen fold at £1800. But I'd love to multi task and save time, and it'd also be great for things like sheet music and watching videos expanded.
do yall Split the keyboard on the big screen? i kinda hate it. also ive been running Gamecube Emulators on mine and GameCube aspect ratio is perfect for the screen
I wish they would make regular phones in wider dimension the front screen on this has i couldn’t really use the folding part of this phone but would love a none folder in that size
Crazy Taxi looks good on the inside screen. It's the only game I have on my phone. Also, you can set the keyboard on the inside screen to be a normal keyboard instead of a split one.
Still rocking my fold, took a little getting used to small quirks, but I definitely prefer this form factor over the Samsung Fold, had the 4 but didnt keep it long.
I'm really enjoying my pixel fold. I use the inside screen probably 40% of the time though. I like watching videos, reading manga/comics, reading books, playing games, Nintendo DS emulation is amazing, showing photos. Split screen is nice sometimes too. RUclips or videos on one side, with reddit or news on the other.
From an IT perspective, i use my inner screen very often. Aside from the popular network related apps available for Android, our remote agent and ticket system also have Android apps available. Ill always prefer a full blown laptop because its just generally easier due to the input devices and number of available tools, but this Google Fold has made it very convenient to solve many issues without the need to even bring my laptop to many service calls Thats truly a testament to it's usability
Wonder what the price for the Fold2 will be and how much the original Fold will drop ..which is currently on a spring sale, selling for £1350 mark give or take?
Listening to three slab phone fans discussing a foldable that they hardly use as a foldable and mainly prais for its cover screen does not provide more insight than listening to three users who have never used a foldablbe before. Such phonses are just not made for you. The target group is a different one.
It's kind of frustrating because the majority of big tech reviewers who get these products and lead the narratives aren't the target audience and don't (seemingly) use these devices to their fullest potential.
As a fold 3 user, if my front screen was slightly wider I would use it 90% of the time, atm I use the front screen 70% of the time, the inside screen it great to use when needing it, I like to msg while watching a video and still having a large screen etc
I think that is precisely the target group. You use the outside for most things, then when you want a bigger screen you open it up vs grabbing your tablet. I use my phone 90% of the time but I still have a tablet that I use 10% of the time because that stuff is better for a bigger screen. But with a foldable phone you would not need the tablet.
I'm only a few minutes in. But my mindset is, why buy a phone for 1800 to use it's smaller screen majority of the time.. Because at that point I'd just but the newest pixel. Hence why I think Samsung version smart. Use the front display for just minor everyday web search text. And use the big for everything else
The easiest way to fix the button press when it's resting on your finger is with a software update. Just disable the button in that orientation. No one is trying to adjust the volume or lock a phone by trying to press up on a button that is on the bottom of the phone
Nope. It’s because Samsung wanted the Aspect ratio of the inner apps to look decent instead of the black bars that Pixel Fold has. But that will be addressed sooner than later. Samsung had 5 iterations to make the form factor better. The fact that Google has a compelling first generation fold phone should make Samsung worried. Android Apps will sooner than later fit Google Pixel Folds better than Samsung Folds. Google wants to make the best of both slate and tablet designs in one device. 3rd iteration could be the one that eats Samsungs lunch.
So, it’s really good as a standard tombstone phone (other than being twice as thick and almost twice as heavy), but it’s hard to find much that’s useful as a large screen phone.
It's funny, when I use my Z Fold 4, I use the inner screen 90 percent time for daily use. Having a foldable and not making use of the foldable feels kinda pointless.
I LOVE my pixel fold. Best thing I think I have ever purchased

I'm a Pixel Fold user too, since day one. From what I'm gathering here, I'd say you all like it. Glad I'm not alone in that.
I would love to have one but the battery life is too short and charging too slow
I like the Pixel Fold a lot. I’ve had it almost a month. Once a few software kinks are ironed out, it will be almost perfect.
If you havent learned, the software kinks dont get ironed out even on the mainstream pixel line, Ironically. I seriously doubt it will ever be ironed out for a new category of a phone such as the fold.

It came tothe Galaxy Z fold 4 about 3 months ago

Samsung basicly ha e a setting that can force it to be bigger
I nave a fold3 so I already had whatever setting to make it bigger 3 years ago lol. So never noticed the resize update. I did notice the buttons on the side though. Thought it was for all phones lol. Don't remember when I got it, but I think I got the update a while ago. I do think I am enrolled in the Beta program, so that would make sense.
Just ordered mine and I can't wait!

Yeah the aspect ratio is weird and takes some time to get used to, but just like going from regular flip phones made of plastic to smartphones took time, this does too
Definitely gonna wait to see how the Fold 2 improves, and wait for reviews before making an informed purchase decision
Same
I find myself always going back and forth between multiple screens a lot so I feel like once I get my hands on one, I'd probably never go back to a traditional phone
I am a Pixel Fold user and have the black silicone Google case for it which saved my Pixel from harm when it hit a cement floor. I love my Pixel Fold.
I have a z fold 4 and I was super hesitant about the narrow outside screen (the reason I didn't buy a 1 2 or 3) but I've been pleasantly surprised how nice it is to use one handed. Would've never guessed it

,......But using it 2 handed is the worst ever..
@@HaloUppercutwhen I use it two handed, my phone is open
I just got a galaxy fold for the first time and the outside screen is my favorite part of the phone. Easy one handed use, secure grip of the phone(from being so narrow), and the tall aspsect ratio shows so much on screen in vertical scrolling apps(which is pretty much most apps).
I absolutely hated trying to type messages on that screen. Infinitely better on the Fold.
I average 6 hour plus SOT during a 18-24 hour run
same with my 6a
Yes I've added Android 14 beta to my Pixel Fold I've went from just over 4 hours an half to around 7 hours lasting a day an half before charging videos RUclips emails.
Wow
Agreed!
My least favorite thing is that you can't customize the inside different than the outside everything else I love it
sounds like an Apple thing hahah
How has your battery life been?

Discussions like this are what sold me on a Pixel fold. If I got a folding phone I'd probably end up using the outside screen for 90% of what I do. This is the first folding phone where people don't just complain about the outside screen.
watching video content or reading comics/manga is so much better on the inside tbh. Amazing and worth it alone.
I'm loving my Pixel Fold.
The split keyboard issue was my main gripe with my folding device, however gboard has a floating mode which is perfect since it maintains the aspect ratio unfolded, and when its folded it docks at the bottom properly.
It doesn't have to be split it has a button right next to the floating button to make the keyboard normal
It works fine but it just looks bad imo
I'm pretty tempted by the Pixel Fold. I have to review PDFs multiple times a day for work, and having something that can be a great phone 90 percent of the time and a tablet 10 percent of the time sounds perfect.
Go for it. I deal with inventory management and counts and it has been a game changer having the calculator on one side and keep notes on the other.
I am a student too and use lots of pdfs. This dimension of this Fold is absolute perfect for this use, to read a lot. I would definitely buy it.
Edit: lots of this
I've had it for a month now, easily the best foldable by far. Game changer outside screen, solid battery and killer Pixel camera 🔥
Love mine, hopefully Android 14 is exactly what everyone's making it to be
Beta boy here, it's another level of smooth with a pretty big bump to battery over 13
I can confirm as well. I've been running the beta and the battery life is night and day better over 13.
I just upgraded my Fold 3 to the 5. The Fold configuration is definitely better for me.
ya i dunno what these guys doing if they use the inner screen 10% of the time. what are they doing with their left hand😏
Love my lg v60 still
The only reason i like the z fold is the form factor. I am buying the phone just so I open it. If i want to use the outer screen I would just get a normal phone. Also the z fold when open is just very comfortabke to hold and very balanced.
It's the best of both worlds. Regular phone but it opens to a bigger tablet.
Yes, the Samsung Fold has a odd front screen, but the utility the software provides, and how it invites you to use the larger screen makes more sense for more of a "power user"
Google has made a phone that more "standard" users can jump into and not feel overwhelmed, and maybe that is a good approach to bring users in, then increase the feature set as the product matures. However, the people buying foldables today want more utility out of their device, and its a big reason I am going back to the Fold 5.
this just shows everyone does NOT need a foldable. they are just in love with having the newish tech. For the average consumer, if you spend 1800 to use only the front screen, you threw money away.
Sounds like torture. I love my iPad and iPhone being separate.
@@AndrewPL5 I use my iPad 6 hours a day, my phone, 1 hour a day. This definitely does not suit my needs.
I might only use the big screen 10% of the time, but that 10% is more than justification for having it 👍
5:06 so the crease doesn't detract from the photo viewing experience? just curious :)
No, definitely not. After some time you don't notice it. But a creaseless foldable would be nice nonetheless
I think too this is the proper shape of a foldable
I use my outside screen less than 10% of the time, but that's the point: The convenience of using a small phone with a large screen on demand. I guess it also helps saving battery power.
Just got this phone. Im enjoying it so far.
Honestly if Google released a Pixel phone the size of the front of the Fold I would be SOO happy
I love both screens on my z fold 5 personally. They both have their perfect uses.
I used the inside screen of my z fold 4 every night for about an hour to watch RUclips. Occasionally for multitasking. But it is still worth it to me

There are things I just can't do on the Pixel Fold:
Custom gestures: App switcher, screenshot and multi-window
S Pen: Sign documents with the S Pen
Private Share: send encrypted documents using the blockchain with self-destruct capabilities
Triple split-screen for multitasking
All 130 apps are optimized for the inner display
Despite my love for the build of the Pixel Fold, the software doesn't suit me anymore.
Their favorite part of the phone is the outside screen, the thing that every single device out there also has?
It’s comical 😂 Z fold to me is better because of the snapdragon chip and Dex mode
Still loving my Fold. Def not perfect but to me it's damn good.
If you want insta Fullscreen on the inside screen rotate the phone. It will fit the screen perfect.
As a pixel user, I'd love a fold but you can't trust getting a first gen fold at £1800. But I'd love to multi task and save time, and it'd also be great for things like sheet music and watching videos expanded.
I thought the same thing but something about this one is different. I don't know the build quality seems there this time
do yall Split the keyboard on the big screen? i kinda hate it. also ive been running Gamecube Emulators on mine and GameCube aspect ratio is perfect for the screen
I wish they would make regular phones in wider dimension the front screen on this has i couldn’t really use the folding part of this phone but would love a none folder in that size
4:00 as a biased Surface Duo user, being able to access two app at the same time is awfully valuable.
Anyone knows how do you get the transparent calendar widget at 2:18. I have been trying to get that forever
I never knew I needed the foldable phone inside screen until I upgraded my work CRM software and has now been using it for work 100% of the time.
Crazy Taxi looks good on the inside screen. It's the only game I have on my phone. Also, you can set the keyboard on the inside screen to be a normal keyboard instead of a split one.
That would make keyboard too big. Split Gboard to large. Samsung's one is better, less travel for my thumbs.
I wish they had launched it in India. A really good device.
I love how many people I have seen and know who have folding phones and still use them like a regular phone.
You can change app size ratio in the settings
Still rocking my fold, took a little getting used to small quirks, but I definitely prefer this form factor over the Samsung Fold, had the 4 but didnt keep it long.
Marvel Snap plays really well on the inside screen if you rotate it. Full fills and it's pretty fun!
I like this guy in the mets hats because of his random honesty.... cursing.
The D-Brand Grip Case has increased my pleasure with the Pixel Fold. It's like a large Lego block - which is strangely a good thing.
Is the outside screen easily one-handable? Does the overall thickness of the device affect ergonomics & in-hand comfort?
It's wider than an S23 Ultra so no.
Ifs a tablet when i want it to be not beacause it has to be when the outer screen is too narrow to type on
I have Z FOLD 2 AND STILL I LIKE OUTSIDE SCREEN it helps me to use les battery durning long day
The easiest way to fix the button press when it's resting on your finger is with a software update. Just disable the button in that orientation. No one is trying to adjust the volume or lock a phone by trying to press up on a button that is on the bottom of the phone
I'm a razr 22 user and i think i find the pixel fold as a right successor of my razr when i get a new mobile
7:45 that sounds really useful!
Having Marques is like having a Porsche in a ford showroom. Love the guy
I believe the narrow awkward screen on Samsung Fold is by purpose, to push users to use inner screen more than outer screen
For the button placement issue can you not just turn the phone around (i.e have the power button at the top)? Or am I being stupid?
they should put the power button on the top rail and move the volume above the antenna lines and add a locking slider
I see that you have the Apple Watch Ultra. How does it work with the Pixel Fold?
So, it’s really good as a standard tombstone phone (other than being twice as thick and almost twice as heavy), but it’s hard to find much that’s useful as a large screen phone.
Most issues that the Galaxy Fold has... the Oppo N2 Fold fixed it. Its AWESOME! 🔥🔥
I am looking forward to the launch of OnePlus folding phone which is rumored to be the same shape as the Oppo Folding phone.
@@bengoey Its seems like is gonna be the same shape as the Galaxy Z Fold 5 instead. Mr Mobile already got one.
Thanks for the info, I didn't know that@@shadowfallenable
It's funny, when I use my Z Fold 4, I use the inner screen 90 percent time for daily use. Having a foldable and not making use of the foldable feels kinda pointless.
Thanks for sharing guys Appreciate it.✌️💯
