I just want to add that loss of pulse detection could be helpful to anyone with serious health conditions that may be living alone. I knew a friend of mine that he lived alone and he had apnea and breathing issues and he was found dead in his home alone a week after he had died. It might not of changed anything if he had a watch that had that feature but at the very least he would of not spent a week alone dead in his own home, if that means anything to anyone that cares about a loved one.

For context: Screenshots actually don't take that much space as a normal photo. Since normal photos have a lot of noise in it, when you compress them, you have to store all those details. With screenshots, you can compress them in a much better way because a lot of it is same pixels (or much more uniform as compared to a normal photo).

Here is something that wasn’t covered by Google or, the Team there. Google is selling these phones with “One Year Of Gemini Premium” which covers some of the features that were announced. So which one, or how many of these Gemini features are going to disappear after that first year? Google never said what Premium Features are covered under that umbrella. Fun fact: Google actually had a project blueberry, it just wasn't public. I was an engineer on Google Drive. I have a condition called Arrhythmia, so basically sometimes my heart just stops beating, that is the " no pulse event " you guys were referring to. I am having an Implant in my chest to record this event for future treatments, but this feature seems so cool, because it calls for the medical help. which is really really good. that reason alone makes that watch seems compelling. (But I am currently inside a wall😑 So 😖)

Isn't the 90 times faster then the speed of sound from the mic to the driver for noice cancelation so the entire processing of the Opposite wave happens really fast.

Fun fact: Google actually had a project blueberry, it just wasn't public. I was an engineer on Google Drive. We had a project called project blueberry to reduce memory leaks, which were making my team in particular "blue in the face" trying to debug them ad hoc. Thus, we created a project to get actual dedicated time for fixing it.
The screenshots app is Weird, for example on Samsung phones if you take a screenshot of a website page in the gallery app it shows an option to "go to website" so i feel like this whole thing could have just been a part of google photos
Starting the demo with Samsung might have actually worked out for Pixel since the Samsung demo didn’t go too smoothly, and then Pixel’s demo was way smoother. It kind of showed, in a roundabout way, why Pixel stands out for AI stuff compared to other Android phones.
Whole idea for Google is to push Gemini, phones felt like after thought whole annoucement. So far Gemini is nothing spectacular at all, and not that useful for most consumers, but Googles main goal is to push it and have those insane profits from subscriptions, phones are now only to push Gemini.

I have a condition called Arrhythmia, so basically sometimes my heart just stops beating, that is the " no pulse event " you guys were referring to. I am having an Implant in my chest to record this event for future treatments, but this feature seems so cool, because it calls for the medical help. which is really really good. that reason alone makes that watch seems compelling. (But I am currently inside a wall😑 So 😖)

"I completely agree with you, MKBHD! When Google does this, it feels more like a Samsung event, especially with Gemini being used in Samsung devices before the Pixel 9 series even got announced. The lack of focus on Android and the Pixel lineup during Google I/O 2024 was surprising, and the whole emphasis on AI almost overshadowed what we usually expect from Google in these events. The design and features of the Pixel 9 series are impressive, but it seems like Google is moving in a different direction.

The prices for the new Pixel devices is what made me lose interest completely. I'd rather buy a previous gen Pixel for like 400-500 max. Currently on the 7 and it's been a gem.
From what I understood about the sound processing speed is basically that it's capable of processing significantly faster than how the sound would actually be fed in, so, the post processing, noise cancelling and pass through would all be veryyyy real time. Of course, if all of this is trustworthy. But also, I might be massively misunderstanding here.
you don't really get a pixel at full price, thats a fact. They almost always have some massive deal going on or carriers price them very cheap.
I don't know if David will see this, but in 00:48:45 when you say that the diffusion models don't generate the same thing twice, it depends on the randomisation seed. Typically it is set to 0 (random) which uses the timestamp to generate a random number, but if you fix the seed to something, then every time you set that seed, it will generate the same thing. It is mainly used for reproducibility.

Great point when you mentioned price. One of the big reasons people liked the pixel was it was a company's flagship phone but discounted. If this is the same as Samsung, Google will learn a hard lesson

1:18:57 I'm guessing the "faster than speed of sound" claim is about latency. The signal moves from your phone to your ears and gets converted into audio faster than it would take sound from your phone speakers to travel the same distance (assuming the phone is, say, 1 foot from your head).
