I've had the lousy experience of visiting someone at Riker's. It's hard to tell if the unpleasantness she's expressing has to do with visiting someone you love in lockup, or the incredibly dehumanizing process that happens first. They treat visitors like criminals. It isn't surprising to me she wants to protect herself from those thoughts.

When Jada speaks about Tupac having charisma and courage, she says “It’s not a lot of people that have that kind of charisma and courage to just come up on me…” so she’s complementing herself as well as him, by basically saying she was so beautiful, intimidating or unattainable (or whatever it is she thinks of herself) that it took courage for him to even approach her. She may truly idolize Tupac in her memories but she also idolizes herself.

Has anyone actually read WILL’s book? Because even he says that Jada wasn’t interested in him to begin with and it comes across like she never was. (And still isn’t IMO) The way Will puts it makes it sound like Jada was contemptuous and derogatory towards him when they first met and he talks about other things that have happened throughout their relationship that reiterate that. Will was the one pursuing Jada. She never wanted him. In my opinion, Jada started dating Will to try to make Tupac jealous and after he died she took advantage of Will’s infatuation and has been using him ever since. She doesn’t love him. She loves what he provides for her and she knows she’ll never do any better.

  • @hlu777
    @hlu777 7 месяцев назад +157

I feel like the other aspect of Tupac is that she's placed him on this huge golden pedestal of perfection, which isn't uncommon, & because he died young, suddenly & unexpectedly he never had a chance to "fall from grace" in her eyes. He didn't live long enough to hurt her, break her heart, or disappoint her.
As time goes on, the more we forget any of the "bad stuff" and the more perfect the deceased person on the pedestal becomes. No one can possibly compete with Golden Pedestal Tupac. All others will pale in comparison because he can, quite literally, do no wrong.
I'm not saying I blame her. It's very common. Only that, that might also explain why she's SO expressive, mind blown & enamored with him, but less so Will. If roles were reversed, no doubt Will would have been Golden Pedestal Man. It's just an unhealthy expectation that all living men will fall short of in comparison. I'm not saying that's necessarily what she's doing, just that it might explain why she's still so enamored with him & their relationship, whereas Will clearly pales in comparison.

Here's the thing about mental illness... We dont filter information the same way as the average brain and I have this growing sense that JPS stayed stuck in her teenager self and has progressively idealized her relationship with TS to the point that she's made it this fantasy which only grows in embellishments the more she retells her story. At the same time, she never skips a beat in making sure everyone knows that WS is not her ideal partner... She wanted the gangster, street smarts, charismatic, larger than life personality that was TS. She wanted to be written into his legacy and because she didn't accomplish it during HIS LIFE she's attempting to rewrite the story AFTER DEATH because the poor man cannot defend himself. Im also surprised that Tupac doesnt have friends or family from that era or even other women that could maybe shed more light into their true friendship. We already know JPS is a pathological liar... But it would be delicious if someone came out with receipts to put that woman in her place once and for all.

VERY IMPORTANT NOTE for this analysis: For context, that picture that brought her to tears wasn't JUST about Tupac, who passed shortly after that pic. The other woman in the photo, her friend Maxine, took her own life shortly after as well. So seeing that photo and remembering that time is probably VERY real for her (which Spidey expertly pointed out). Then you add not being on good terms when Pac passed, there's a lot to process. But later on, when I was old enough I just realized she was only 17 when she gave birth to my brother. A 17-year-old young girl. What past relationships?? What love games?? She was just a teenager with probably 0 to 1 experience, but in her mind she was sooo mature and an expert on relationships. She was literally a kid. I feel the same way with Jada. So there's that. But Jada embellishes her tales and memories and is so unreliable one just takes anything she says with a grain of salt. I am not saying her friendship is false, though. The way she talks about their "intellectual" connection, and how intelligent Will is as well, it's giving me strong "I'm such a deep thinker, I need someone who can keep up and stimulate me intellectually" vibes. A lot of times the people who emphasise how attracted they are to someone's InTeLlEcT (🙄) are just trying to seem smart themselves. That’s a very cruel thing to keep saying about her marriage to Will in public over and over, that she really didn’t want to be with him. That’s what strikes me about Jada..she is exceptionally cruel to Will Smith. He’s not blameless, but I think she delights in seeing him hurt. Will is depressed. He’s beaten down. It’s a different form of a classic abusive marriage, only society assigns more shame to the man when he’s the one that is psychologically abused. Burns me up. Will made a HUGE mistake at the Oscars, and he’s paying for it as he should, but Jada was the entire catalyst for what happened. I think it delighted her, what happened, with no thought given to just how much it hurt Will’s career, reputation, his heart, and even his relationships with his professional peers, including Chris Rock and his family. Jada doesn’t appear to care. Either that or she’s just completely self-absorbed and doesn’t see how she comes off.

You compared the way that Jada told the story about Will calling her after his divorce in two different interviews.
I couldn’t help but compare both to the way she talked about meeting Tupac.
She was clearly impressed with Tupac being bold enough to approach and speak with her. I was not at all sure that she felt similarly about Will’s confident approach.
And rightfully, so, perhaps. It was more than a little presumptuous to say “you’re seeing me.” As if she could have no possible objection.
So when I heard the first version in the interview, you focused on this video, I heard the clutching pearls part, and assumed that she was not favorably impressed with it. It almost surprised me that she had, in fact, called him when she got back to LA.
Because in the circles where I travel, clutching pearls is something you do when someone is behaving in an uncouth or ill-advised manner,
    socially.
I suppose there must be other ways of using the idiom? What is your experience with it previously?
It was only after seeing the People interview where it occurred to me that she was trying to suggest that she found his boldness, attractive, as she had found Tupac’s assertive self-introduction impressive.
But… it’s still hard for me to buy it. To me, it seems she was distancing herself from that idea by saying that laying his claim that way “could be a little sexy,״ rather than stating out that she *did* find it sexy.
In other words, it seems to me like she’s trying to have it both ways. She doesn’t want to alienate people who admire her husband, by suggesting that his advances were kind of oafish, but she took pity on him. But I think the wording kind of leaves that emotional response available just below the surface.
I can’t point out what makes me think so, but it still reads as a kind of contempt to me. And if she owned it, frankly, maybe it wouldn’t bother me so much. Because, as I said, she he would not be the only one who finds the braggadocio appeal to be less than appealing.

When Jada starts crying when she sees the photo, I also feel it's genuine, but the reason for these emotions doesn't have to have anything to do with the people in the picture. Maybe she remembers the time and it was all so exciting back then and she was young and her life path was still open... because I find it strange that she puts the photo on the table so quickly with one quick movement. When I see loved ones in a photo, I cherish that photo, that piece of paper. I have the feeling that at that moment she is mourning something else and that she is bitter.

I stopped following another RUclips channel personality that solely focused on the negative about certain celebrities and wasn’t all that great or informative. It simply just fueled the “hate them” fire, which I disagree with. Thanks for doing such an amazing job analyzing behaviors and explaining it to your audience. Learning so much from you!

Being able to read people's energy is a blessing and a curse. Im SO glad i found you!! You're one of my faves!
This is my take on Jaida: she is the kind of narcissist that is scary. To me, she's also a sociopath. I feel so bad for Will and her children. She's got Will totally hypnotized to her "religion". If he ever leaves her, he'll need so much unbrainwashing therapy. I know that sounds harsh...but..🤷🏼‍♀️

One point about the interview that I find interesting is the way she contrasted the beginning of her relationship with Tupac vs Will. I could say a lot about it, but basically they both approached her boldly. With one she presented it as an example of who he was as a person, how unique and special he was, and with the other it was a strategy that got her interested in him, but it didn't necessarily correlate with impressive character. It comes off like she's saying that Tupac's boldness was more real, more genuine, more innate to his personality than Will's plain old Hollywood hubris.

I don't particularly care one way or the other about her, but I will say that her emotion when looking at the photo struck me as genuine. For those saying "it's been 27 years", yes, it has. That means nothing. There are some things I can't talk about, even 28 years later, without crying. These were two people she cared a lot about, cut the woman some slack. Hate her if you want to, but please don't discount someone's pain just because you don't like them.

People who say it’s been x amount of time, have the joy of never having lost someone suddenly with lingering regrets. Grief never stops. You just learn to live with it. Some days are harder some are easier. It took years before I could look at pictures of my dad after he suddenly passed when I was a teen. It’s been almost 12 years and I still miss him. I won’t ever stop missing him. We often push down grief because people expect us to move on after a certain amount of time. A single picture can be enough to make me sob. A single memory can just strike me down and have me sobbing. At the same time I can smile and talk about my dad easily and happily.

I think that a lot of ppl have not read her book and choose to criticize instead of getting as much information as they possibly can before doing so. After reading her book you would understand why she looked at a picture of both her friends( not justPAC)who had passed and still became emotional in that moment. She never dealt with any loss instead she kept living which is a tactic that most ppl use in order to survive. Especially growing up with two parents that were addicts. She is going through a spiritual awakening now and when ppl go through a awakening they purge all emotions and that is what we are seeing. As far as her marriage,Her and Will may be soulmates but more than anything they both trauma bonded and she is now trying to understand herself, what and who is real in her life as well as all the choices she made. When you become aware of everything you once punched away it is painful 😢

Hey Spidey, thank you for this video and for always reminding us to be kind. I went from being a fan of Jada to not liking a lot of the stuff she's done but one thing I feel we cannot deny is that what she felt there was real grief. Tupac is the one that got away for her, she's looking back fondly at the memories while I feel that with Will the reason she doesn't do that is because he's still alive and well.
We as human tend to suddenly romanticizes those that have passed away, there is no negative points or flaw, maybe that's why we say "Don't speak ill of the dead." I felt sympathy for her and appreciated the fact that the interviewer held space by hugging her and in a way blocking her from the camera so that she could have her moment to grief for what she's lost.

I haven't watched this video yet, but I did just finish the Dear Mama documentary because I didn't know that much about Tupac - there was no mention about Jada being a significant person in Tupac's life. So I don't really know exactly what their relationship was other that what Jada says.
But speaking of very interesting body language and use of voice and facial expressions, Tupac would be a really good one to study especially in chronological order. I saw his demeanor change from youth to early adulthood pretty drastically (at least in that documentary) almost to where he seemed like 2 totally different people and i have 3 theories as to why. I'd be curious to see your take! Thanks for the videos!!

Is it possible that she believes her own lies to the extent that she is telling the story over and over again building her own acting moves to make all believe it with her? She’s frightening to listen to? Because she spreads word salad to convince others that she’s being honest???? It’s too precise and perfectly descriptive for me not to believe she’s scripted this story over and over! It’s what she wants to believe! I believe she believes it but I don’t believe it was the way she’s describing! Because he’s not here to defend the lies !

I am very impressed you caught the contempt. I passively missed it, but when you showed the freeze frame, I was like whoah yeah thats contempt all right lol. I think, and I may be off here, but I think not only does she have contempt for Will, but I personally feel like this contempt comes from a place of jealousy. She is jealous of his success and the way things just simply go right for him and how he fits in anywhere. I'm guessing she has to work hard at it and people don't like her work, dont like her personality, dont want to give her attention and that I think is what creates this jealousy that later turns into anger and contempt. I also noticed that when talking about Will, she slows down 5 times more than when talking about 2 Pac. She starts oicking her words more carefully and searching for the best word instead of talking freely. I think Will and her have gotten in some nasty fights about her saying something about him and is almost scared to say the wrong word because she is afraid of upsetting Will and I also think Will is personable and thoughtful when speaking so when talking about him she has adopted his own mannerisms in speaking carefully. Just my thoughts.

Another great analysis, Spidey. The last clip says to me she feels she will be thinking about Tupac on her deathbed or that was something she told Will regarding their relationship and his ambition which seems to be too big for her. When she says he didn't seem "deep" enough in the beginning. That's just because he was youthfully joyful while she had lived all that deep unhappy emotion with Tupac which seemed to her the sense of living and shook her to the core. Also, the emotion she feels when she talks about visiting him in jail. It seems to me she feels guilty about leaving him there in such a state and going for something better with Will. She decided to go for the material wealth she felt she could have with Will but at the same time she started hating him for having all the success also because he had it without much of her help and that didn't provide her with the feeling of importance which potentially drove her to her depression and suicidal thoughts around the age of 40.

I don't think she's listing things she respects about her husband. She's listing things other people respect about him. She's aware of everyone else being angry at her contempt for him and is trying to make amends. Not because she feels any care for him, but because she wants people to not be angry at her anymore. She still can't stand him. Its more irritating to see her trying to manipulate all of us. She has no respect for her husband. She married him for money and fame and has hatred him for needing him. She should have had all of that without him.

Thank you Spidey, for sharing your thoughts and insights. I appreciate your compassion and critical thinking. Jada wrote that in her earlier life she never wanted to appear vulnerable so you’re right about that. Before Tupac died, he and Jada had an argument and never made up. She met him in high school when he was dirt poor (with barely any clothing) so she bought him clothes and devised ways to give them to him in such a way that allowed him to accept her gifts without embarrassment. Later, when she needed help he was there for her, so they formed a huge bond. Her comment about how we wouldn’t care about some beefs etc. we have on our deathbed helped me too. I doubt if a narcissist would have the ability to be such a deep thinker.
