Hey everyone, glad to see the positive feedback and great contributions in the comments! Just a few quick notes/ additional thoughts 1) a few people are saying it can’t be edited because it was live. That’s incorrect. Just because something was originally live does not mean it can’t be edited afterwards. There is currently a note in the credits of the special specifying that it was indeed edited after it aired, there are parts that are cut out, (specifically a joke he messed up about the movie concussion ) so it can, and has been edited. 2) towards the end, I said that one of his comments was “under the belt”. I misspoke, I did not mean this was unfair or wrong. I simply meant he hit Will where it hurts. As an entertainer I do not believe in censoring performers, ESPECIALLY when it is their own production, as I said, in the video, he should have the right to say what he wants and we have the right to not watch it. 3) this one is blowing my mind. The whole shark thing. I can’t believe the number of theories that are being thrown around in the comments lol. It’s very simple, the movie wasn’t very popular and it’s easy to misremember Will Smith playing a shark for someone who hasn’t really seen it (I would take anyone’s bet that Chris Rock hasn’t seen shark tale.) some of you said he purposely made a mistake to signal that he hasn’t seen it or nobody cares about that movie: I can agree with that. Most of you said he gave up accuracy to make his joke work, knowing nobody really remembers the movie: I can agree with that as well. A few people said he was referencing Will in real life, as a metaphor; absolutely not. Listen to the set up, he listed roles they both literally played and then ended with “ even in animation he’s bigger, I’m a zebra, he’s a shark” he’s talking about physical size and he’s talking about an animated role, that’s the entire setup of the joke, he’s not going from literal to metaphorical randomly without any warning. Finally a few people said it was intentional because Oscar (the fish in shark tale voiced by will smith) is lost and looking to find himself and trying to impress a woman by acting tough just like will smith. This is a great parallel and observation but it has NOTHING TO DO with Chris’ joke. How would incorrectly calling him a shark in any way allude to this metaphor or help illustrate this point?! If he wanted to point those similarities out he could have brilliantly scripted a bit about it. The setup of this joke was all about Will Smith being physically and literally bigger than him, he invested a big build up to get there, this isn’t the place for a very specific metaphor that would require intense knowledge of a very unpopular movie and Will Smith’s life. Notice how in his whole rant at the end he’s very specific and clear, this massive stretch of a metaphor wouldn’t fit, especially in a punchline, it’s not the place for it. I’m rarely certain in Analysis but I would bet any amount that Chris just forgot that Will isn’t a shark in a movie called Shark tale, or simply doesn’t care because the joke is close enough.
Yeah 😂. It’s unbelievable what people are doing with the shark thing in the comments like this punchline was the DaVinci code 😂. As you said there’s nothing more to it and if anyone understands even the slightest thing about comedy writing they would know that there is a 0% chance he had this deep meaningful metaphor that he chose to express as a mistake, in a punchline, that he invested a lot of time to set up. The joke was meant to mean that even in cartoons Will Smith is bigger. It’s a funny joke with an incorrect reference. That’s it that’s all (in fact there are a bunch of news articles out about it now and the consensus really seems to be that he just messed up a reference)
A few things to consider: 1. After being slapped, Chris Rock was forced to continue the show with Will Smith STILL being allowed to sit right in FRONT. I cannot imagine how humiliating that must have felt. 2. There is a lot of talk about Chris Rock’s feelings. I submit that IN ADDITION, we have to consider how his family felt seeing their father/husband/son being slapped in front of the whole world. So it is understandable to see Chris Rock releasing all this anger and humiliation through his Netflix special - and get paid $40 million to do it.
...plus, let's not forget a whole of folks went to Will Smith to comfort him during the break. The irony! Having to witness some ppl going out of their way to console the same person who slapped you while trying to remain professional and to continue hosting.
I really think that line, “She hurt you way more than you hurt me,” is very powerful. This is Chris’ story to tell and he waited a year to tell it. Under all the circumstance, and the fact that he will be FOREVER remembered as the dude that got hit at the OSCARS, Chris Rock handled the situation with class.
I had so much admiration how he handled it when it happened... He was clearly shocked and speechless by being attacked physically and verbally on live event in front of milions watching. And he didn't say and even made a sound, when we are sliding on icy ground we are like "damn", "fvcc", "aaah!🫨". And he stayed straight, carefully finding words and getting back to hosting. That is really a moment that can shows someone's true character. Chris Rock is a class act!
I agree and take some exception with the characterization of this as being aggressive. He used words to fight back; not fists. That's how adults should deal with conflict. What Will Smith did was the brutish act of someone who knew there would be zero consequences. And there weren't. He wasn't kicked out. He wasn't blacklisted. He was even given an award that very evening.
I had the same feeling. I was honestly shocked when I saw the negative feedback about it. Particularly people who took things literally. It's comedy people.
I also think this allowed Chris the perfect platform to voice how he felt without having to do the talk show circuit and become meme bait. This venue allowed Chris to actually be heard and didn't provide the opportunity for anyone to contradict him, ask questions and interrupt him or even disagree with him. He got to say his piece in peace. Perfect.
The very last line in this show and the sentiment in which he said the last word was so powerful, it made me cry. I loved how he used his own space to speak about the injustice committed to him in front of the whole entire world that went on for months after. He didn’t trash them in social media, interviews, etc, as he could of. The Humiliation he felt was turned into a brilliant speech inside his bubble where he had every right to say whatever he felt and still acted like a true gentleman speaking only facts. Team Chris all the way. 💖
You are so articulate and you write so well that I was surprised to see "could of" instead of "could have". Your comments are 100% spot on. I especially liked "inside his bubble"!
In any other arena or place, Security would have hauled the perpetrator out of the place. Will Smith was getting an award for Best Actor that eve., wasn't that enough to keep a person in their seat? It's like he completely lost his senses, ie, sense of reality, sense of his relationship w/Jada, and everyone else in the room, and the world watching, and the greater sense of humanity! The fact that Will Smith was able to go back to his seat and Chris Rock then had to continue w/him in front of him was a disgrace! This situation sort of parallels what has been going on in politics w/Trump, it normalizes this behavior and makes it okay to act so out of line, so childish and immature, so careless, thoughtless, and out of control. This is very destructive behavior that results with people and animals getting hurt and sometimes killed, IT NEEDS TO STOP!!
@@mjg1708 Yeahup. Chris won the Jada Power Will Mega Smith Smack Lottory of 40mil. And Jada Smith & Will Pinkett keep losing on average 1mil per month based on decent online sources. Ms Jada Will Pinkett taking so many L's. Between the children & the parent's all I can see is shameful faces.
As a person who was bullied in high school, I don't think I will ever get over how shattering, traumatic and absolutely embarrassing it must have been to be slapped at the Oscars on live TV in front of the whole world. I'm just in awe of how well-put-together Chris has been about this whole thing.
I hate that you went through that. Part of what I was shocked at was that nobody there ran to his aid. He was an employee essentially, assaulted at work. He was just left on stage and expected to shake it off and continue. Friends, colleagues and employers abandoned him. Some even rushed to the aggressor to empathise with him and later gave him an award and a platform. Disgusting
This was a polarizing event. But for those of us who fell on Chris' side, we honestly held our collective breath for a year. We felt bullied right along with Chris and I think all of us were stifled because it felt so unfair as if Chris didn't get any retribution or payback. He didn't get a chance to stand up for himself bc he took the high road. He never had a chance to speak his truth and talk about how he felt. Even during this event, he didn't really talk about the extent of his humiliation. Not to mention, through no fault of his own, he will probably never be invited to the Oscars again. He was assaulted on LIVE TV and no-one came to his aid. We could see the vitriol in the comedic content, but he still left most of his feelings hidden/private. We as his fans, needed this just payback just as much as CR. We needed to see him hit back on HIS terms and in HIS arena. And Will is not stupid. You can't publicly humiliate one of the most clever, intelligent and witty comics of our time and think you're going to get away with it. The entire Smith family should have seen this coming. I think maybe bc it took Chris so long to respond, Will thought he had gotten away with it. But Chris was just biding his time, collecting offers and waiting for the best one. That ended up being a slap worth $20million. Good for him.
The fact that Jada had an affair with Jaden's friend is not that she had an affair...it's that a mother thought it was a good idea to engage in a sexual relationship with a friend of her son. This is all kinds of messed up.
Not just that, that kid went into their home asking for help, August was in a very vulnerable mental and physical state. She gain his trust and overstepped boundaries big time. She is a predator, she's gross.
When Rock got hit, there’s a moment where he says, “ok, ok.” And he looks like he’s about to lash the f*ck out verbally at Will, but he doesn’t, he calms himself and says “that was the greatest moment in the history of television.” Man, what a legend.
@@suchasweety138YES, YOURE SURE RIGHT! What he actually said if I recall (too lazy to rewatch), but Chris said ," okay, I could. Alright." He was just imaging how brutal he could've put Will in exile with Chris' roast skills, lol. Then the "alright" was him calming himself and holding back.
Yeah, a man who's always told mean and distasteful jokes about people! Okay yeah a man who makes others laugh about a person's disease! A man who himself was bullied as a child for many years and grows up to don the same to others.... Yeah, A legend.... Mkay.
@@godschildyes why can’t religious people ever enjoy jokes? I don’t understand. My grandma was a tyrant when it came to jokes as well and she was a go to church or you’re gonna burn in hell kinda Christian. And we wonder why so many people are against religion.
OMG, if I may draw attention to the last minutes of the show, which I thought were the most powerful!! He expressed the love he had had for Will Smith! And you could see, in addition to the anger, also the disappointment! But that mic drop and the way he stood with open arms in front of the audience. I looked/felt to me like he reclaimed his dignity!! I am so happy for him!! He can definitely move on now!
It’s interesting I saw that a little differently. I believe he finally unburdened himself and explained why he did not attack physically and verbally. What made me have to really think about what you said and give credence to what you feel is from and earlier interview with Howard Stern when he talked about seeing on of his bullies on his movie set. This was an absolute call back to that for me. Again, you left me something to think about even if I see it a bit differently.
I think he did a GREAT job. He wasn’t fake like Will Smith was in his interviews. Will never showed no remorse even though he was “apologizing”. He apologized to everyone but Chris Rock. I use to love Will Smith, but now I have NO respect for him. I have more respect for Chris Rock because of how he handled the situation. The oldest saying is,”revenge is best served cold” and that is exactly what Chris did, so Kudos.
I agree with you 💯 and I was a big fan of Will Smith. After what he did to Chris Rock, I totally lost respect for Will and will no longer be watching any of his movies, new or old.
I have no respect for neither of them. But if I did pick a side I would support Will. Like he said keep my Wife name out your mouth. He had a right to take up for his wife wouldn’t you. He would been less a Man if he didn’t . This mess is Old can we move on
Chris handled himself much better than I ever could have. Will acted rashly, without thought and his reputation took a big hit. Chris took his time, chose his words carefully, said his piece... and profited royally. Kudos to Chris.
This is key to me, "chose his words carefully, said his piece." ESPECIALLY concerning Chris's joke about Will's lack of good parental figures who would have raised him to Not resort to violence. That was a perfect thing to say to remind ALL of the adults in the audience to GROW UP and raise your children (or not, party hard, fight, etc, and then wonder why your talented child is miserable for life).
Exactly. I laugh at people who pay to see a show, immediately get offended, and leave. It's so funny when they're yelling at the comedians like they're Karens.
The disconcerting fact that security did absolutely nothing after Chris got slapped AND allowed Wil to return to his seat for the remainder of the awards show was extremely shocking.
I felt the same way. I couldn’t believe it. It even seamed like others were bordering on consoling Will. He should have been removed from the award show. His could still have won the award and his wife or a friend could have accepted it for him.
@@bogbrither Maybe - but when Will hollered "Keep my wife's name out [of] your f•cking mouth!" at Chris, the venom he spat was so obvious it was immediately evident he wasn't joking
Chris Rock stayed quiet for an entire year about how he felt about getting slapped by Will Smith at the Oscars last year. Also, this was a genius move on his part to make us wait for his response because he had sold out crowds while on his stand-up comedy tour, which maximized his sales. As far as whether Chris was too aggressive at going after Will in his Netflix special, I think not. In fact, it was necessary for him to show some aggression (finally) since we all have been wondering how he felt about what happened to him last year. Everyone wanted to see a real reaction about the incident. Furthermore, Will Smith got off easy because Chris Rock didn't press charges against and he didn't sue him. Instead, he fought back with his words and he profited from that. So, I commend Chris Rock on how he handled the entire situation.
Chris is saying, "My N special brings all the folks to the yard. It's better than your slap, Will... "Damn right it's better than yours I can teach you, but I have to charge!"
Genius! I HOPE he makes Millions and goes Tour with this! Who's laughing now--2 nasties........... he's saying what smart people, talented people top actorsHe broke them downpeople! Opposites babytwist that screw deeper!
I’ve been seeing where a lot of people are saying Chris did this for the money. Okay, so what if he did? To me, it was a brilliant business move. He waited a whole year to address this mess and he did it publicly and on Netflix. He didn’t devote his entire show to them. He talked about it the last five minutes and dropped the mic…signifying that this is THE LAST time I’m talking about this foolishness. I loved it. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I don't think it was for the $$$ either he a comedy and this was his way of getting that anger and hurt out if he wanted $$$ he could have issued Will and gotten millions.
Does anyone notice that Chris Rock was 1/16 of a second from hitting back but Will was already walking away-Chris has mad self control. And STILL kept it professional. Rock on Chris.
I love the (intentional?) irony of how he started off by saying "People say words hurt... but anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face" and then proceeds to use words to inflict far more pain than a punch in the face. Genius
The fact that he didn't say anything for a whole year about and then decided to give us something about his thought process after the incident says alot. He kept quiet for a year! A whole year. I say let the man say what he wants at this point. He's entitled! Love you Chris!!
@A Smith There is no time limit on people processing their shame and pain. Chris had to endure that whole fiasco while the Oscar's were still ongoing. He also had to deal with the aftermath that came for 12 months. I he wanted to go on a rant for an hour and a half to say his piece, what is the issue?
@A Smith He took the high road for 12 months. It was his turn. He waited, he planned, and he made a strategic move to address this in his stand-up show. As far as we know, he may have gone to therapy and was advised to get this out of his system. Cuz as far as I am concerned, he suffered in silence far too long. See the thing is, people expected him to immediately start talking about it right after it happened. He didn't. He had to go through his own way of processing what happened to him. While Will was being celebrated and taking interviews apologizing saying how out of pocket he was for doing it. Every talk show he went on, he discussed what he did. Yes he was asked by interviewers and hosts, but he still discussed it. Chris remained silent on the matter. Until now. So again, what's the problem? Let him have his say through whatever means he deems necessary for him. 🤔🤷🏾♀️
@@asmith8947He got extra credit for waiting a year (with dividends). He's a man, he needs to speak his peace. He had to take his power back gracefully, and he did. I wish the special was 3 hours...I love W. Smith, but he needs to take his medicine.
I think this was absolutely pure genius! He never said her name once but the audience and everyone who watched this heard how much he still roasted her. Especially will Smith. I don't think this was too much or he shouldn't have said certain things. He deserved to speak his mind and how thus impacted him on his own show and he did it so damn well. This I think is worse than being smacked by will. Words have a way of telling the truth and sticking with a person way way longer than that slap. Yeah, that slap was in front of the entire world but will smith made himself look do effing stupid and also made him look like he thinks he can go around and do what he wants because of who he is which is so wrong. Chris Rock handled everything with grace and maturity. Then waited and decided to use his best weapon which we all know are his words. I loved every moment of this show...I can't stand Jada. She is only where she is at because she is married to will smith!!
Chris a COON.. who got slapped for reckless mouthin bout a man's woman.. who happen to be black.. and bald head! His hair movie bout black women hair issues shoulda learned his COON ASS! That special "RAISED" bit is BULL SH/T! He dont need Oprah or Gayle!.. he got his mostly white audiences of COON LOVERS! that he "sympathy fishes" to. It looks staged to me! Looks like Chris readied his head for the rockin. LoL. All the weirdness and entanglements.. REALITY ENTERTAINMENT of any OPEN MARRIAGE of the Smiths.. got lotta ppl misfocused. The COON got ROCKd( he ain't the 1st) cuz he was reckless mouthin bout another man's woman!!! PRO SLAP 💯
Chris rock wasn’t just fighting back for himself, he was fighting back for all comedians, who live in fear now of getting attacked for telling jokes. He’s standing up for his entire tribe, and he did it with utter brilliance.
Fighting back? Will Smith destroyed his career and Chris came out of it smelling like a rose thanks to his impressive professionalism. I do acknowledge though that all comics should feel safe on stage.
Chris being bullied his whole childhood im sure triggered this response. I think he was also fighting back for kids, people everywhere who go through this. Will used his size, chris used his brain. Consequences can come in any form and if you cant take it, dont dish it. I love how will thinks netflix shouldnt have given him a platform and made himself the victim and wants chris to just move on....what a predator.
You asked about the aggressiveness being appropriate… My mind goes back to his first comment that anyone thinking words hurt has never been punched in the face. He warranted his own words. The fact that he was assaulted on a global stage with almost no repercussions, no justice, the aggression was 1000% warranted. I loved your take on the parents comment because I didn’t know that about Will. Yes, that is definitely a sucker punch, but also a double entendre because remember the son immediately sent out a tweet that night, it even made the news, “that’s how we roll“. My interpretation was that it was a cut to them as parents themselves. This was a huge dose of gratification for anyone who was #TeamChrisRock. Loved your analysis, thank you Spidey.
@@Me-wk3ix True. Maybe. He’s still rich, still famous. His movies will continue to roll out. He should have been arrested without regard to Chris saying ‘don’t’. That’s a terrible precedent to exhibit. Smith attacked because he could, both in stature and environment. Chris had nowhere to go, no real way to defend himself. Think of the tenacity to continue with the show.
I would also say that Chris in this sketch showed a moment of sympathy for Will ,when he said that he was raised by an abusive ( towards his mother ) father. This showed his deeper understanding of the whole scenario that many people did not know about .
I think, like me, a lot of people were waiting to hear him address the slap. Chris Rock delivered a master class on how to exact revenge. When he described the admiration, I really felt for Chris because I can't imagine what its like to have someone you liked and supported humiliate you in front of tens of millions around the world. Also great catch. I've watched it twice and didn't really notice that he did keep her name out of his mouth.
Glad he didn't. He did in jest and look the outcome. Calling her Bitch suits her perfectly and Will been call a bitch suits Will. He is that Nasty, whoring bitch, little bitch. Disrespecting a man for the world to see deserves the kind of response Chris gave. I still hopes he sues Will.
*Yep! 100% agree with you!!! It was a very funny special & a great slap back at Will Smith...!!! BTW... a note about the "shark" line that Spidey mentioned. Size is all relative because even a "little" shark is big when compared to most other animals like a zebra... In the end, that "shark" line is just a joke & shouldn't be analyzed too seriously.* 👍🏽
HE TOTALLY NEEDED TO GO THIS ROUTE. Because Will did it in front of the world, and his children. This video will NEVER leave the internet or verbal history. I feel he didn’t say enough.
SO TRUE! Criss had ZERO other options! Should Chris’s story be, for eternity that he just “Turned the other cheek” and came to terms with it? NO and here is why: (Sry for the long…ish… post, in advance) Chris’s intire fanbase has been awaiting ….longing …for a response. Will had a public meltdown …and THEN harvested hour after hour after hour…of media focus so he can return into the limelight. Very potentially… very very….can he return to his cinematic spotlight when a new generation has arrived. Perhaps approximately 20 years… Next generation will say,: “Him, ol’ man Smith, is really good… yes, there was some crazy shit when he was young, but who cares”. Will set himself up for a return down the line. 100 procent. No stone can be left unturned if he wants to come back. Hence the cringeworthy media outpouring. Yes Will messed up, but a single slap in the grand sceam of things, is not necessarily a career ending “thing”. Lots of actors acted out and got in a scuffle…. But the “greats” allways have a return option down the line. NOW… …Criss knows this, so he did what any major celebrity player with an ounce of selfrespect does, that want to end the ‘victim narrative’ And that is… Make the agressor pay the maximum price so to vendicate himself and break the bond of being “publicly humiliated” onstage and bear the burden. Onstage is a big thing. BUT…It doesn’t get bigger than at the night at the Oscars! Center stage. Being the main presenter. Having risen from nothing to becomming an icon, himself…. Should he whimper and always have that story posted onto his forehead and feel that people are wondering how he is actually doing. Are you ok, Cris? Time for payback, Will. Standup special arrives. Now he changed the story completely. He went from being an actual “victim” to cause more damage than recieved. ‘Justified vengeance’ is the feeling that all people understand deeply, if they have been wronged and humiliated themselves. It is all about emotions for Chris and ZERO about common sense, patience, correctness, being the better man… no… Criss thought FUK that. Too much is at stake. I have to get out of will’s shadow the only way i can. To hit back with devastating blows, verbally..and doing it in a way, that he could walk away with maximum understanding, recieved love, acceptance and laughter directed a Will Smith. “Never FUK, with a comedian, you tyrant”! ….Never FUK… with ME!, Chris said loud and clear for all the world to hear.
Sure can’t blame Chris for saying any of this. I gotta give him credit for holding his tongue for this long. Also for not making a big deal of the slap that night. He could have done so much more!
I wanted to give a little insight on the animation set. When he made the remark I was a zebra, and he was a shark, I think this was an intentional jab at him by using his character in shark tale. Number one: Smith's name in the animation was Oscar (the incident happened at the Oscars) Number two: when you look at the character of the animated character "Oscar", tries to make the other characters believe he killed a "shark", however in reality he is an underachiever who tries to play a tough guy "gangster", but really he can't keep up the facade. It was a low blow about to him not only about him being a poser, but also a jab at his success. Madagascar was not only extremely successful, but Jada also played the hippo in Madagascar. It was a clever jab. He knew people would look it up, and maybe even get his insult. I thought it was one of his best actually, 😂!!
Well done👏. I get it. I remember seeing this movie. I get it now, wills character name was "Oscar" and yes, he pretended he killed a shark for the attention/alcalades (poser)- This joke went deep.
He didn't just hit Chris. He SLAPPED HIM ON STAGE IN FRONT OF AN AUDIANCE, AND ON NATIONAL TELEVION. Chris' response about how he was raised, IF it was under the belt? Was a response to Will's violence under the belt and acceptable to me. Will had it coming, and he was hilarious! Yes. I feel it was appropriate how Chris delivered and what he said. Genius platform.
Agreed, he deserves everything he gets. He had a year of nothing, now he's telling Chris to "let it go." The aggressor doesn't get to dictate the terms of how the person they hurt handles it.
Right! People remember the violence but seem to forget about the humiliation aspect of the whole thing. Will Smith humiliated Mr. Rock in front of the world. He basically called him a bitch with that slap. Chris, with restraint and poise, showed this bully he's not a bitch, he won't tolerate it, and hit him with his wits instead of his fists. Not only was it deserved. It was poetic, because Will Smith will now never try something so foolish again. I feel for celebrities in a way. It's a strange life having a bunch of people like us all up in your business, and you basically have to sequester yourself away from the world if you don't want to be mobbed by a rabid pack of star struck lunatics. But you just don't take away a person's time to shine over something so benign. Living half your life in a movie and half your life in the world described above must be a tad overwhelming. But damn. Sorry for the long comment. I had two cups of coffee for breakfast and nothing to do with the energy. Cheers!
I think that waiting for all this time to address what happened to him was the smartest thing he could have ever done. Because nobody is going to forget about it ,they’re just waiting for him to say something ,now he’s got everybody’s attention. That was brilliant! 😊
@@juliebell3182 Not like this special did. He fired missiles brutally on Will and his ball and chain in green. They deserved every word he said about them. It's Chris's time to speak. That couple needs to go away for awhile and get some professional help. Neither of them are qualified to be therapists for themselves or anyone else.
Yes! No matter how aggressive CR got; it could never top what WS did to him. After what Will did, he made it open season. And Chris made the classiest moves. "His show; his prerogative!" If The Oscars couldn’t handle the situation with fairness; then let Netflix compensate him with 'dollar'! Love you Chris! ❤🎉
I actually think it was way worse what Chris did! Yeah, that slap from Will Smith was humiliating… But Chris rock isn’t slapping Will Smith back on the face, he’s hitting in areas that really hurt Will Smith… So I think he’s doing more damage here.
What I noticed right away was Chris rock dressed in all white, before you mentioned it. Then I noticed that it was stark immaculate white and layered like a person that works in a nut house, a psych ward, or mental institution. His shirt also had long sleeves and his shoes had thick black rubber soles like that of a hospital worker and someone who is trained to handle people who might get triggered or might snap and loose composure, or need maintenance and calming down. Then as Chris's show went on, I noticed his comments were more in line with making psychological observations, and like he is the sane one and these others are the ones doing abnormal things. Then he finishes off with, it was because Will didn't have proper parents, he wasn't was raised properly, and he's still with the woman who cheats on him with inappropriate relationships.
Everything about this was very strategic. Not saying Jada's name, pointing out what Will's anger was really about (does anyone really believe it was about her hair?), to saying being punched hurt more than words- then using words to eviscerate him, to releasing the special right before the 2023 Oscar's being aired. Well played.
@@judymurray191 It was brilliant. Blatant criticism of the audience and Academy's response to the incident, as well as criticism of Will Smith's behavior.
I agree with some others about the Shark Tale thing being intentional. I think he did that on purpose. He’s intentionally referencing WS dealing with identity issues. Like he thinks he’s a big shark but really he’s not. I actually just looked it up and the beginning of the synopsis of Shark Tale on google is “Underachiever Oscar (Will Smith) is a pint-sized fish with grand aspirations”. That could be totally intentional. His name was even Oscar 😮 I am all for CR using this as his chance to address it. It’s his show and WS has been all over media talking about it. For my tastes, I think he went too far with the parents thing. He had the opportunity to take the high road. I get that he was hurt and is still angry. It felt good till that point. That’s when bitterness started looking stronger than the hurt and anger. Thank you @thebehavioralarts! I’ve actually been waiting for you to do a reaction to watch it at all because I knew you’d be even handed.
I caught the “I called him to check on him but he never took my call”… he sounded genuinely hurt, like I tried to reach out to you when you were going through, and then you embarrass me in front of the whole world? Maaaaaan… listen, to men respect is EVERYTHING. I can imagine how Chris Rock must’ve felt in that moment, and after. Will was allowed to stay, received comfort and awards like he didn’t massively disrespect and assault this man? The anger is totally understandable! I hope he is able to move past it at some point.
You're quite right. And, thinking back on it, while Denzel Waashington has been one of my favorite (all-time) actors for years, I am disappointed that he made the choice to go and "console" or "advise" Smith, but said not one word to Rock - who was the aggrieved party!! Also, if he did say to Smith something to the effect of "when you're at your highest, that's when the devil comes for you;" I DO NOT think he necessarily meant that the way Smith took it - as a sort of sympathetic word. I think it might easily have been a warning not to let himself trip over his own faults.
I100% agree with you. ESPECIALLY for the comment that follows " because I had parents" comment. That had absolutely nothing to do with Will's abusive Dad. It's universal in Black families since always and Will knew better.
@@juliekeenan9684 Let me be clear as I guess I was trying to say it without saying it but that didn't work. Some things are universal in BLACK families and I would add families of Color as I said based on what Chris Rock said AFTER he made the comment, "I have parents". He followed it up and closed his show with, " you don't fight in front of white folks." That's what I was referring to when I said it is universal in all BLACK families. Now, that wouldn't be universal or even relevant in ALL families, would it?
I saw this as Chris paying homage to his parents for teaching him how a real man acts in certain social situations, and giving us all a lesson on this while at the same time sticking it to Will--Loved it!
My brother told me that a man slapping another man is worse than punching him, because a slap is not really meant to do damage but it’s meant to punish and humiliate the recipient. Like a father slapping a son to put him in his place. I believe that slap was meant to “punish and humiliate” Chris Rock. He wanted to put him down in front of everybody, to show his anger. So I’m glad to see Chris Rock take Will and Jada down a peg, because they really did him dirty. Then Jada goes on Twitter talking about “healing journey” and Will goes on Trevor Noah to try and re-affirm his “likeable guy” image. It was all so contrived, and I hope Will doesn’t get to just move on with his privileged life without consequences, REAL consequences for hitting Chris.
Aren't you being bitter? What more punishment do you want against Will? In fact, Chris practically left no room for anyone to improve on his revenge - Will's "punishment". It's so difficult to see a way back for Will after this presentation. Whilst Will deserves every bit of what he got (and boy, did he get a lot), Chris could still have decided against revenge. Many across the globe are now celebrating Chris, but his actions are one and the same with Will's a year ago - though much more premeditated and venomous.
A slap not only embarrasses the receiver but it emasculates him. A slap is far worse. It says I have no respect or fear of you. "I am Superior" so to speak.
The entire set was BRILLIANT! Chris Rock was strategically diliberate in how he laid out this set. He hurt Will Smith far more than that slap hurt him. And he turned that painfully embarrassing incident into a $40,000,000 profit. Winning! He filmed that show in Jada's hometown at the Hippodrome in Baltimore, GENIUS! He stated the facts about what Will's true frustration was (the entanglement), and end the end he comes out on top! We'll played my favoritest comedian of all times. Will Smith hurt himself in the end far more than he did Chris Rock. Way to use your brilliant words Chris!
Talk about the real debt of his saying. His Jada he can't get over his on heart. Will got tired everytime they met. Jada in his mouth. Mr. You would get tired of someone coming after your wife. Chris went to far. Destroyed a brillant man as himself. While he is in triple digest. Will will come back not the same. I believe it drpends on that marriage. He needs to run run run.
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS COMMENT: CHRIS ROCK IS A GENIUS He said, " I'M A ZEBRA, HE'S A SHARK,". Now everyone watching would l say to themselves, Will Smith did NOT play a shark, HOWEVER HE PLAYED IN SHARK TALE. It's a REFERENCE to WATCH the movie and analyze the behaviour of the SHARKS. In the beginning of the movie, the SHARKS HAVE AN INTERACTION WITH EACH OTHER... WHERE ONE SHARK SLAPS THE OTHER... PURE GENIUS CHRIS. CHRIS ROCK MADE NO MISTAKES OR ERRORS IN HIS SHOW
A roast that will earn Chris a lot of money through his own talent and hard work, instead of a lawsuit that would have only taken away some of the money earned by Will Smith.
It's interesting he waited a long time to do this. He's had time to process all his emotions instead of being immediately reactive. To me, this really reveals how he feels.
The fact that his son wrote that tweet of "This is how we roll" and put it out in the world is disgusting. Goes to show he condones his father's actions and didn't see anything wrong. As someone who has whitnessed abuse and also has been on the receiving end, my face was the same as Lupita's: uncomfortable to the point of being scared. As a child, whitnessing abuse done by an adult in my life, I have never thought "That is how we roll." So, my take on this is that the last part was also for Will to see what kind of role-model he is to his children. Chris underlined that he was raised well by his parents. Will did not do a good job as a parent.
And now Smith son is saying he will spit on n Chris Rock. Total nonsense and just shows how fd up smith family is. Chris Rock is a professional and has every right to speak up
I think it's brilliant that he never used her name. By just calling her "his wife" he totally knocks her down a peg (defines her only by her relationship to him rather than as a person in her own right) and at the same time rubs it in that this person is not treating him as a wife should.
“Knocking her down a peg”is how the problem started. Why harass a woman who never bothered him? Folks are weird and hypocritical when it comes to certain women. “Knock her down” indeed is the goal.
@@silkyslim2111 I assume you didn't actually watch the show? He quite clearly said that she started the issue when she said that he should have quit his MC role because Will didn't get nominated for some role. That's why he has chosen to direct a few harmless jokes at her and then that's why her husband decided that physical assault in front of millions of people was an appropriate reaction.
@@silkyslim2111 The joke was actually a very nice one. Being likened to Demi Moore in GI Jane is a compliment. Not only did Moore rock the bald look, she was in incredible shape. Just giving a shout out to someone during the Oscars is very nice (they are actors, they like attention) Sadly, there is no pleasing Will's wife. And all it took was one eye roll to send her lap dog husband into that bizarre performance.
It seems that Chris Rock recognized the importance of time and place- he recognized that his role at the awards show was to calm things down and move the show along. It was very classy, to accept the embarrassment and be a professional. The awards show was about honoring people’s work and he kept the spotlight there as best he could. Hitting Will back would have kept the focus on them. However, he has a right ( especially as a man) to punch back, and at an appropriate time and place and manner. This was real emotion and a release for him.
The fact he let will & Jada think they got away with that ish then came back how he did a year later is hilarious for me & I'm here for it! I loved the show & I'm proud of Chris! 👏 the smith's had it coming!
At the end, Chris threw his Mic on the stage & raided his arm ( victory or DONE?) Walked off the stage w a stoic face. At this point I was in tears. All through, I felt he was teaching me something. He always presents to me as insightful, & yes, funny. I always learn from him through his talented comedy! He WAS raised well!
The way he crafted his words talking about the way he raised his children when he got his daughter expelled to teach her a lesson, as opposed to the Smiths' laissez-faire approach by subliminally putting across that "he has parents" that was genius. He hit all the birds of the Smiths' household with one stone. 🤔🔥
@@cecisworld0909 - I thought he was very complimentary towards his ex-wife, and at the end he says he likes and loves his daughter Lola and is extremely proud of her.
What a sad situation- The marital unfaithfulness, the publicity of ugliness, the frustration, the dysfunction, the literal slap in the face, the unforgiveness, the mockery. This is just sad and nothing to celebrate.
The slap section always makes me cry and seeing how Will yelled at Chris and how Chris agreed to stop saying her name, it hurts every time. So yes I think it was appropriate because he was letting go of his anger towards Will and moving on.
That all of you state how much seeing the assault on Chris Rock hurt you (as it did and does me, and I'm sure, millions of others, too), goes to show the magnitude of the damage done not only by Will Smith's actions but, ultimately, by Jada Smith for instigating it in the first place.
I think he has every right to address this and demonstrate his anger. He didn’t just go off without considering the consequences, as Smith did, he took a year to let everyone express their position, including Smith who publicly apologized. Only now he has his say. Very wise. Let’s not forget that Smith not only wasn’t escorted out of the Oscars, he actually won best actor and had to deliver a n acceptance speech in which he did a lot of explaining and justifying what he did. It’s weak and Rock just showed how much stronger and in control he is. Bravo! 👏👏👏
I'm glad that Chris had his moment. At the end you can see Chris almost about to cry. He was overwhelmed by the applause and the emotion of course. Everything that he went through a year ago really effected him, as it still does. It's his own way of getting some closure and to start a new beginning.
I also feel like he referred to will and jada as talented people was to express and emphasize real disappointment in them. He acknowledged and held up the platform of their “pedestal,” so that when he knocked it down, (which he did,) the harder and further they’d fall. It’s hard to be surprised or disappointed by someone who is NOT talented or has otherwise shown themselves to be a non-role model, but he wanted to highlight that EVERYONE would expect different of them- and then here’s what actually happened. Very, very calculated- the entire show. I LOVE how you called out that he never used Jada’s name. (He didn’t have to!!!) That was also brilliant.
Chris Rock’s slap back is brilliant. He finally gets to respond to the public humiliation he was subjected to by the Smiths. Chris deserves his moment, which was afforded over a year ago. And let’s not forget he’s doing it in a very classy way via a Netflix Special, unlike the Smiths, who stole other people’s thunder during the Oscars. Bravo Chris, you’ve made me a fan of yours!
Can’t necessarily say it was classy. Brilliant, strategic money grab turning lemons into lemonade. Great use of words and psychology of revenge. But… not necessarily classy.
I think that we all had a final collective sigh of relief. The bully got told off in public and Chris got paid to do it. Thank you Chris for all of who have ever been bullied. What a huge catharsis! Thank you!
@@cosmicredeemer3109 definitely not. Just don’t agree with black on black crime in front of the world. We need to lift each other up and show each other the respect we demand and deserve. Chris Rock Fan. No longer a Will and Jada fan. Please don’t put words in my mouth. I’m capable of speaking for myself. Will should have handled in private and so should have Chris. Now that would have been classy. Which is what I am responding to. 2 wrongs don’t make a right. Or is it 2 lefts make a right. Anyway.
I've tried and failed to forget the look of pure glee, on Wills' face after he slapped Chris. He was so proud of himself. He faced the crowd, jutted out his chin like he was the toughest guy around. instead he looked like a little kid showing everyone what a good job he did. He puffed himself up all tall and proud, then pulled on his belt like he was John Wayne in a bar fight. When he was walking away he just couldn't contain the proud smirk he had on his face. I also don't forget the ones that stood behind Will that night, there was a lot of respect lost that night, that's for sure.
What I heard in this special was the underlying hurt Chris felt & is still feeling from having a dear friend and someone he loves and cares for to not only come up on a stage that had worldwide coverage and hit him like that, but to shout out what he did to Chris. That is betrayal grief and they both are mirrors for each other on how deep that wound is felt. Unexpressed hurt and feelings came out for both of them. I pray for healing for them both. Love that he wore and grasped that necklace of Love during his performance.
Exactly! 💯 I felt that hurt from Chris, which is why I wasn't laughing in the end. Yes, Will was wrong for resorting to violence and he's paid the price for his actions. Yes, this is Chris's special and he can say what he wants. But I did feel a tad uncomfortable by the end, mostly because I felt like I was in the middle of a fight between them. I'm not saying it was bad or anything; I just didn't feel the comedic intentions towards the end.
At the end of the routine it showed how hurt and vulnerable Chris still is, this incident reallyyy affected him. You could see it in his eyes and his face at the end too. I really wish he pursued additional help to deal with this ordeal. The incident at the Oscars hurt Chris more than we will ever know.
I was a bit shocked with Chris' reference to Smith playing a slave & being beaten by Master. Of all the comments I've seen, no one else did, so maybe I'm being a snowflake.
@@peforster6725 I took that as saying this is how much Will hurt him, especially since he talked about how much he had rooted for Will and that he’d also tried to call him when the news broke about his wife cheating on him and he didn’t pick up for Chris and it’s all the way broken to the point he’s actively rooting for master. Something he never thought could happen. Just like being slapped at the Oscars, something he never thought would happen.
I saw where Chris' mom spoke out after it happened and said how much it upset her to see her boy hurt. When he hurt, she hurt. It showed how it went beyond just Chris. It of course impacted his family too. So my opinion is this was appropriate, and was maybe cathartic for him. I also think it was by no coincidence that it was released near the 2023 Oscars. Timing was everything, and it opened up the scab that Will can't attend them this year.
I have to agree whole heartedly with this comment. I know if this had happened to my sons it would have hurt me to the very soul of my being. BUT i would have been so very proud of them for not being reactive in a violent manner which was completely warrented. (Self defense and all). I completely 100% am in awe of chris rocks professionalism in this instance. He took the high road both then & now. Im so proud of him.
To me, it seems like the worst part wasn't the slap as much as it was the humiliation. When one man hits another, especially with an open hand, its about domination. This happened in front of the whole world. If you look at Chris' face right after the slap, its a mix of surprise and emotional pain, betrayal.
As a person that is ethically nonmonogamous, even in an open relationship it's possible to cheat/be cheated on. I know from personal experience. For me it hurt worse than when I was practicing monogamy and was cheated on because there was no reason to lie about things and boundaries still need to be respected.
Chris Rock never went overboard at all. In fact, he made sure of it by being silent all this time. The amount of discipline and frankly, self control shown by him is remarkable. Will Smith and his torturer deserved much more thanthisand yet I don't think anyone could have made either of them feel smaller than Chris did in this special. It was AMAZING.
I don't think words wld be harder, I think if u had been hit by a big, fit, relatively young man u wld find it very painful compared to words. But Chris did it the only way he cld and with class. Respect to Chris.
@anne moncrieff I agree that Chris was hurt physically by Smith but being it was such a bitch move by WS, most people stood by Chris. Everything he said about WS was 100% true and I am sure cuts like a knife for WS to hear. The whole thing made Chris look like a class act and WS look like a mess
When someone hurts you and you are powerless to fight back it gnaws at you. You take a hit at your manhood your self-respect. Chris is a gentleman and a genius. He sucked it up and stayed silent, he took his time to plan how to respond and he did it on his professional turf. He exercised all his demons and aired his feelings on the matter. When he threw down the mike it was a victory drop. After that he just stood there while the audience roared and clapped in approval. If you watch his face during this, he has regained his manhood and self-respect, a real cleansing moment. He has answered back to Will Smith in the most amazing way I have ever seen. He was the smaller guy but used his gift to hit back the hardest. I would love to hang out with this guy, so amazing, so brilliant.
When I saw the show, my reaction to Chris was congratulations. Chris pointing out his reaction at the Oscars, his self-control in the moment and all those following was a retelling of one of the most impressive behaviours that I have ever seen. As for Chis mentioning that he had parents "and sht" was to me a double. It's a shot, not only at Will, but also a "pay attention people", raise your children correctly, conduct yourselves correctly even if you don't have parents who raised you right. I loved it. When he was asked immediately after the Oscars, during a reporter shout out what he would do, he said he'd respond with words when it was time (or something to that effect). And he did. Good for Chris. My hope is that Will and Jayda and family, can see and understand and feel why Will and Jayda's behaviour was all on them and will always be all on them. Hopefully, they will grow and learn from this horrible turn of events, that they, themselves, set in motion. As for whether or not Chris should have done the set, been aggressive in the set, well . . .none of us will ever know what it's like to be physically and verbally assaulted when hosting the Oscars.
The only thing that Jada did was look dissappointed. She didn't hit anyone. And yet she is getting the blame. "She started this shit". She didn't. Will Smith started it.
Chris was brilliant. He had every right to roast both of them, and he did so without sayng her name. They will both be feeling the stinging and burning sensation of that roast, and they deserve to feel it fester for years to come. Bravo, Chris Rock
The parent comment was brilliant, in my opinion. It tied in his values concerning his spoiled children and his responsibility to have them experience the consequences of their behavior. He was not only saying he had good parents. He was saying as a parent you model self control for your children. So he was telling Will Smith he was a bas parent too.
Also pay attention to his comedy bit about his daughter. It isn’t just violent parents who teach children to be violent. Rock went the other way and “spoiled” his daughter, the biter. But when, as a parent, he let her suffer the consequences of bad behavior, she matured and is a wonderful person. The parenting theme is important to Rock in this performance.
My favorite line was in response to why he didn’t hit him back “because I had parents, I was raised”. I know some will find a reason to criticize this, and as someone who has adopted children from foster care AND who didn’t have a relationship with my bio dad I get there may be sensitivity around it. But this line speaks volumes to the way Chris handled himself that night and this whole year since. Bravo for him being able to pause and take a step back and really think before acting that night. So often people respond on pure emotion with whatever feels good in the moment and he was an amazing example of self restraint. I showed my kids who have ADHD and impulse control issues this video several times after it happened because in my opinion he was a stellar example of how to adult.
@NightLifeDJs Chris could have easily hit back that night. In fact, he started to and stopped himself. Chris is the epitome and the embodiment of restraint, shrew acumen, and impeccable timing.
I don`t care how old or famous Chris is I am willing to bet that if he had hit back at the Oscars he would have felt fortunate if all that his mother did was tan his behind. His momma did raise him right. Good for her!
My wife felt he should not have gone with the parent's thing. I think the way Will Smith humiliated his manhood opened the door to a no-boundaries approach. Kudos to Chris Rock. Not only did he regain his manhood but he also showed he should not be trifled with.
My husband thought the same as your wife did. I think that Will Smith tanking a decades-long friendship, not picking up the phone, and making half-a**ed apologies along with the humiliation in front of millions of people was more below the belt than the parents comment.
@@renastone1270 I agree, after being humiliated on the world stage and not even reaching out or trying to reach out to apologise which is what Chris Spokesperson says and it contradicts Will's own statement then I'm sorry but everything is fair game and Chris has earned the right to say whatever he wants.
I disagree, my take on Chris saying “ because I have parents” meant that he wasn’t going to embarrass his parents by fighting back with his fists. He was taught to take the higher road especially in that situation, it was the Oscars!!! An event that holds great dignity. It wasn’t aimed at Will Smith not being raised by good parents. Chris is known for being a stand up guy and I have great respect for him. Will smith should have had self control at his age and can never come back from that horrible slap.
I didn’t take it that way. I immediately thought but you are on national tv attacking Will, Jada, ex-wife, daughter, R Kelly, Michael Jackson, Meagan Markle, and Kim Kardashian. Attack some white people please. And some white women especially.
In reference to the shark joke, Chris Rock is brilliant 👏 he knows that Will was a small fish in that movie. But, by not really caring and just calling it a shark movie gives the point that Will was in a shark animated movie and also that Chris probably didn't even care to watch it. AND when people like you and everyone who noticed this "error" in the joke, we then realized that Will is and was in fact just a small fish looking for his identity.
@@knittlesI don't think there was a single element that hadn't been carefully fact checked and worked out thoroughly. Chris Rock is one very intelligent comedian. Massive props to him from Scotland!
PERFECT explanation because I caught it immediately when he said it but intentionally looked past it. I do believe it was a GENIUS reference to Will Smith fumbling to find his identity. Will Smith even said in an interview he has been passionately following a journey to find out who God is. That's why he traveled the world.
I think this was good for Chris’s mental. I think he came here looking to vent in the only way he knows how which is through comedy. As you mentioned it was on a comedy special that he was running so I think it was fine for him to finally vent after almost a full year of being embarrassed on one of the biggest stages for actors and comedians. This special was him having some control in a situation where he had none previously. Both will and jada may be hurt or offended, but hosting the Oscar’s was probably a dream come true for Chris that got completely upstaged by Will’s actions
When Chris mentioned why he didn’t strike back because of his parents and the way he was raised I believe was to be respectful of his parents and knowing that he was being a responsible adult who can manage issues in the correct arena at the right time, he took the higher road 👏🏻
If you notice, Chris balled up his fist at first, but he decided not to hit Will back. Chris knew that wasn’t the right thing to do. He wasn’t going to let emotion take over. Will Smith is a punk. I still cannot believe he slapped Chris over a joke.
Why do y’all always forget the punchline to that joke. And Chris was telling the whole world that his parents are sambo c🦝🦝ns who raised him not to fight infront of white people. Because white people are superior to black people in the rock household
Chris wanted to show the world that his parents raised their children with manners & class despite his working class & racial background. There are several groups in America who are always seen as violent, low class etc., & people from those groups can’t just behave any way & still be seen as upright, respectable members of society. I’m sure the thought that made him hold back was the thought of people saying his parents should’ve raised him better & he should’ve just walked away that stopped him. He’s also a father & probably factored in being a good example for them. I’m sure there are similar issues in Britain & other countries. I just wanted to add that for context.
But it was also a really hurtful thing to end the special on, because of how Will's father was abusive. So in essence he was saying, "Will, you weren't said right." It was a dig at Will's father and mother. I actually think that was the one thing I thought was a low blow. Everything else was all fair in love and war.
Chris Rock mustered up intense restraint at the moment of impact. Gosh! He literally can think critically on his feet. He deserves an Oscar just for that. It was time for Chris to blow his horn. It was therapeutic for him and his fans.
My perception is Rock fans wanted to see an aggressive response to the "slap." Not only for physical attack and verbal abuse, but also for the lack of a true apology to Rock (without excuses) in the months that followed. Rock handled this event intelligently and with restraint, and with this show his fans were glad to see Rock finally having his say in the public's eye.
He may have gotten a bit lost in his emotions and I definitely saw it go from comedy to a full on personal attack; however, it was warranted. This man got assaulted on live tv in front of the world and didn’t hit back in the moment. He calculated his move by making a comedy skit about it and made sure that it was geared towards embarrassing hurt to match how he felt during the incident. Chris Rock is smart enough to do this skit and let it go because he was given this moment and I’m glad he got this opportunity.
I think he did a good job expressing himself after a year. Plus he brought out some good valid points of how she initiates her feelings then it shows how he responds afterwards. She's a leader!
I think when he opened with people saying words hurt haven't been punched in the face, he gave him permission to completely annihilate Will and Jada (without saying her name, which was amazing!😂) But most of all, I think this special is part of his healing process. Will has gone around doing interviews about this "journey" he's going on, trying to gain sympathy. Chris Rock finally let it all out after being quiet for a year! We all knew this was coming. Will's apologies were for public support, not Chris Rock's forgiveness. He didn't even apologize in his speech! He just kept name dropping. It was awful. His wife hurts him, so he hits a man, a friend, in the middle of an awards show? It's inexcusable. I love Will Smith. He is phenomenal actor, and he is usually a very good person, but people will always remember the one bad thing you did, compared to the thousands of good things you do. He had time after he yelled at Chris Rock. Chris didn't even retaliate. He thought about what he was doing before he stood up and smacked him. So, for me, nothing was below the belt that Chris Rock said. This is his time to heal. Btw, I noticed the Prince symbol too. In the intro, it shows him putting it on. It definitely means something to him. Maybe this is him moving forward after this incident and not looking back again.
Therapy facilitates healing. Continuing to disrespect a woman when her husband asked multiple times to stop is abuse. Is inviting and welcoming violence.
@@MsEllaHamilton No it isn't. Violence is walking on stage at the Oscars and slapping someone in the face. Like he said, "People who say words hurt have never been punched in the face." Words do hurt. They hurt emotionally and psychologically, but they are NEVER an excuse to resort to violence. Chris Rock hasn't "continued" to talk crap about them. It was one special. One time. He let out a year of holding back. And that is therapeutic to a person like him. We all need to heal in our own ways. A man walked on stage, at.the Oscars and slapped him in the face right after cursing him out. Chris never argued with Will during that exchange. He was polite and respectful while being cursed at, but it didn't matter. Will still had to walk up there and hit him. THAT is violence.

He left it on stage and took it to the bank. Good for him, I say. I You didn't comment on the very last line, even more cutting I felt. I loved the show and respect how he's handled the whole thing. I never noticed he had in fact 'kept his wife's name out of his mouth. Superb!
It was harsh, and Will 100% had it coming. I respect Chris for keeping his composure in that absurd moment. Imagine having someone you thought was your friend attack you like that, on a world stage none the less!
@@Urbanochismestv COMEDY is expected in the Oscars monologue. She was bald...he'd have been remiss had he NOT mentioned it. Likening her to GI Jane was rather the low-hanging fruit. Chris sure got him back though. LOL
After listening to your insights on CR fighting back with his words, his comment about how if you think words hurt you've never been punched takes on a lot more meaning.
The amount of self-control Chris had back when all this happened is remarkable. He never uttered a word and continued with the show like a champ. He kept it to himself for one full year when he has every right to say whatever he want about this situation, but he didn't - he didn't do interviews, tv shows, podcasts etc. He did a comedy special and even though he was frustrated at times (rightfully showing his emotions) he didn't go overboard in my opinion. Will Smith has a lot of misplaced anger and his PR "sorry tour" was meant to clear his name as much as possible, it was never about actually apologizing for his actions.
I think its kind of genius how he made Will squirm waiting a year to speak. Pretty sure Will expected something like this from a comedian of Chris’ stature but instead of doing it quickly he waited. Like when u know ur in trouble with ur parents but they dont say anything right away and the anticipation is worse than the punishment. U just want to know whats gonna happen to u lol.
This was all their doing. Bottom line. It's not like a close friend going through this just lost his cool hanging out. He was hit in front of the world, then threatened by a man who didn't give a damn despite his sympathy to him prior. After that she has the balls to go out saying she supports what Will did, a week later she threatened to leave Will if he didn't apologize n try to make it right because it was wrong. She's been using Will to show the world who has the power. It's no coincidence she suddenly wears a villain dress to every event.
He’s an artist - a gifted, clever artist. It’s rough at points, but I have so much respect for him to be dealing with it through his artistry. Thank you for your analysis, Spidey!!! Soooo glad to see you back at it! 🎉
@@paulchristian7693 she's emasculated Will every chance she's gotten. Obviously it wasn't an open marriage or he wasn't ok with it in the end because she had him crying. That doesn't look like consent to this woman. No wonder he's out there with all that anger.
Your talk about adding compliments to have people listen to you more reminded me of a strategy I learned when I taught swim lessons/coached swim team called “the compliment sandwich.” “Those dry lands are really paying off with your kicks. Given that Will not only embarrassed Chris, but himself during the Oscar's, I think it's quite fitting for Chris to FINALLY let his thoughts & feelings out for all to see & hear. Probably not nearly as many people as were watching the Oscar's, but he has every right, after a year, to publicly express his feelings about the incident. Good job Chris!
Maybe Chris should not joke about people's diseases and shortfalls. He's always told mean and distasteful jokes about others. The irony is that Chris has mentioned many times in interviews that he was bullied all throughout his childhood.
He was asked to leave the afters part .He refused !! Dancing, smirking posing . I have never liked WS totally overated IMO . Arrogant , pervasively self obsessed and narcissistic .
@@godschildyes That joke he told about Jada was a compliment. Get it straight. I've seen all of his specials and have only seen him do one distasteful joke: The one about understanding why OJ Killed his wife--that was too much for me. @@godschildyes regarding Chris, talking about her “disease“ he had no idea that she had alopecia, and sweetheart when you talk about shortfalls, that’s what comedy is about. If you can’t laugh about your shortfalls, or anybody else’s, you shouldn’t go to a comedy show.
Two points Spidey: 1. As a prominent black entertainer, Chris is culturally obligated to stand up to such an egregious, public act. He exercised great restraint in the moment and also for a year after. The private msgs he received to respond must have numbered in the millions. He chose to ruminate on how he would make his public reply. 2. He has a righteous anger and also a professional right of survival to demonstrate to the world. This was a global event. He did it his way. Respect.
I love the alchemy of him turning assault, victim, into success, money, victory! I watched just to support him as I felt terrible last year what happened to him. Having said that, this show is hilarious!😂
Its a new log in my playbook. Be the best! Don't let a$$h@les steal your moment! Don't let the a$$h@les put on a performative apology and OWN you, like what Will Smith attempted. Own the reconciliation on MY terms and in MY way, with the scholarly consummate professional that I am.
I was mind-blown at the end Mike drop. The expression on Chris's face had so much emotion packed in it! There were several things going on there at the same time. It became clear that it wasn't a comedy routine anymore, but more like getting his deepest feelings off his chest.
I was actually relieved for Chris that after processing the incident, and he took his time which was his perogative, he expressed his outrage at being victimized by Will Smith. He made himself vulnerable stepping out of his usual persona which for me indicated how important it was for him to get his vengence. He le is angry about it. For me, who was also outraged, it was gratifying to watch.
I don't think the "I was raised" line was below the belt. Rock was slapped onstage at the Oscars and publicly embarrassed and it was memorialized forever. Chris was also horribly bullied as a child if I remember correctly, and as someone who has been a victim of that, it leaves scars FOREVER. Will unexpectedly reenacted that trauma on him as an adult at one of the peak moments of his career. I also love Will, but I think Chris is absolutely vindicated here and the special was a brilliant mix of cutting humor and salient points.
I think the "I was raised" line was also a crack at Will Smith's (formerly) sterling reputation as a family friendly entertainer. Smith was, for many kids in the 90s, the biggest actor in the world, he created family friendly art and we ate it up. It was an excellent job at the reputation of Smith and how he destroyed his own image in one action.
I agree here. Chris, despite not seeking sympathy, was a victim. We shouldn’t ask victims for humility after being humiliated. He’s dealing with his trauma the best way he knows how.
I can only say, I remember Jada laughed when Will hit Chris. You even mentioned it yourself Spidey. I think they absolutely got what they deserved. Brilliantly done Chris !
Great stuff Spidey! I was confused about the shark reference as well but on a second analysis I think CR and his team kept it in because it was funny and that people would fact check him and see that WS only played a small fish with identity issues (perhaps secretly wishing to be a shark) 😂
I love his comeback!! He did brilliantly. He used his words brilliantly. Nothing inappropriate, nothing provoking. His truth in true comedy! Couldn't stop laughing
@TiffanyxEmpathy physically and verbally assaulting someone for using WORDs is inappropriate. Doing that on live TV, knowing they cannot react is barbaric, it's bullying! Calling someone a "bitch" seems fair after being Assaulted & Rudely INSTRUCTED to never speak the actual name again... fair is fair. The speaker of those instructions should have been more clearer.
Hey everyone, glad to see the positive feedback and great contributions in the comments! Just a few quick notes/ additional thoughts
1) a few people are saying it can’t be edited because it was live.
You should pin this
I thought he said Will & his wife was effing his son's friend....either way 😳 🤔
Damn Spidey , you’ve only had This channel for a year!?!? Your videos seem like you would have had years and years under your belt. Good job dude 🤙
@@justincraig398 good observation! I had my magic and mentalism channel for years before this one, I brought the experience of that to this 😊
A few things to consider: 1.
Very well said.
❤️
Yes, well said
...plus, let's not forget a whole of folks went to Will Smith to comfort him during the break. The irony! Having to witness some ppl going out of their way to console the same person who slapped you while trying to remain professional and to continue hosting.
👏👏
Exactly
I agree and take some exception with the characterization of this as being aggressive. He used words to fight back; not fists. That's how adults should deal with conflict. What Will Smith did was the brutish act of someone who knew there would be zero consequences. And there weren't. He wasn't kicked out. He wasn't blacklisted. He was even given an award that very evening.
exactly!
Perfect.
Excellent point !! This is the best way Chris could have responded.
And He got paid $$$, if Will didn’t want to hear it he should have written a check $$ because justice would have been him going to Jail
Exactly , I think it may have been therapeutic For him..class act.
I agree. This was his free throw.
I never thought of it this way, but you are spot on. Great comment.
Phanie, you nailed it!! 🌷
It made me cry too, I thought I was the only one 😂
You are so articulate and you write so well that I was surprised to see "could of" instead of "could have". Your comments are 100% spot on. I especially liked "inside his bubble"!
I agree!
He kept the wife’s name out of his mouth indeed… and still managed to roast her 500%
That’s why he made 40 mil, genius comedian after all
500 degrees baked and served perfection
@@mjg1708 Yeahup. Chris won the Jada Power Will Mega Smith Smack Lottory of 40mil. And Jada Smith & Will Pinkett keep losing on average 1mil per month based on decent online sources. Ms Jada Will Pinkett taking so many L's. Between the children & the parent's all I can see is shameful faces.
He called her "that beeatch". Hilarious!
Was so good.
As a person who was bullied in high school, I don't think I will ever get over how shattering, traumatic and absolutely embarrassing it must have been to be slapped at the Oscars on live TV in front of the whole world. I'm just in awe of how well-put-together Chris has been about this whole thing.
I'm sorry you were bullied 😔
Me too! I was waiting for this response!
I feel the same way! It bothered me ALOT cuz I was bullied also. The humiliation hurts!
The whole Smiths are a effing train wreck. They just need to go away - All of them.
Then put it out to the public.....so messy!🤓
Is it confirmed that it was sexual?
It's that she is a sexual PREDATOR.
When Rock got hit, there’s a moment where he says, “ok, ok.” And he looks like he’s about to lash the f*ck out verbally at Will, but he doesn’t, he calms himself and says “that was the greatest moment in the history of television.”
Man, what a legend.
Because he’d get slapped twice in rewind. He better had shut up.
Because he knew he could hit harder with his words. And he sure did lol
Well said
TheUm, Can you believe Will Smith is now claiming "foul"? Which is the man? Which is the wus?
Yes he reclaimed his dignity and can now move on👍🏾☺️
It’s interesting I saw that a little differently.
All it took for Will to slap Chris was a filthy look from his narcissistic controller named Jada. 💯🙄🐨🇦🇺🦘🪃
Yes, yes, toured to sold out venues!
Chris can do whatever he wants on his show. He gave the people, his fans, what they wanted. A show and his genuine thoughts. It was well done.
Truth!! And I’m still shocked how all the idiots in the audience who had just witnessed this attack gave him a standing-O after he won!!
And then, he gets a standing ovation and a whiney speech. What he really deserved was to be arrested for assault.
Everyone thought it was scripted, bc who would do that?
Well said!!!
Chris is saying, "My N special brings all the folks to the yard. It's better than your slap, Will...

I loved it. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
True because he could’ve just sued him
Yes well said. He didn’t sue him. He did it better
Absolutely agree!! 🎯🎯- I hope he did do it for $$. Everyone gets a say, this was his time
It was brilliant! The timing to say his remark which was very close to the Oscar’s was so good and where he put it in his show. A chiefs kiss.
Watch it again.
Yep I saw it too but he remembered he was on live t.v and composed himself very well even though you could see the hurt and embarrassment on his face
I love the (intentional?) irony of how he started off by saying "People say words hurt... but anyone who says words hurt has never been punched in the face" and then proceeds to use words to inflict far more pain than a punch in the face. Genius
It shows Chris' brilliance
Absolute brilliance. Just wish he would have picked on more men instead of women of color….
yep, he is a genius a***hole. And he got slapped. So a whiny baby genius ah.
I just wrote an almost identical comment then scrolled to read its already been said. I guess we're both right.

His Will Smith bash-fest went on too long. Will has dug his own grave, no need for Chris to pile on.
@@noelleroher5335 Yep, Chris had every right. But it's unseemly. The highroad was a better look for him.
This was the best platform for Chris to "fight back." Even in his emotions, he was STILL more gracious than many other comics would have been.
Exactly! Will Smith wouldn’t have done that to Kevin Hart or Bill Burr.
Chris Rock is a G. Took the slap like a champ. Made a Netflix special and capitalized on it, and roasted Will & Jada 😂 incredible

I agree
To be fair, there have been pretty large repercussions to Smith's career.
DebbieBlanke totally agree
@@Me-wk3ix True. Maybe. He’s still rich, still famous. His movies will continue to roll out. He should have been arrested without regard to Chris saying ‘don’t’.

NO and here is why: (Sry for the long…ish… post, in advance)
Chris’s intire fanbase has been awaiting ….longing …for a response.
Will had a public meltdown …and THEN harvested hour after hour after hour…of media focus so he can return into the limelight.
Very potentially… very very….can he return to his cinematic spotlight when a new generation has arrived. Perhaps approximately 20 years…
Next generation will say,: “Him, ol’ man Smith, is really good… yes, there was some crazy shit when he was young, but who cares”.
NOW…
…Criss knows this, so he did what any major celebrity player with an ounce of selfrespect does, that want to end the ‘victim narrative’
And that is… Make the agressor pay the maximum price so to vendicate himself and break the bond of being “publicly humiliated” onstage and bear the burden.
It is all about emotions for Chris and ZERO about common sense, patience, correctness, being the better man… no…
Criss thought FUK that.
CHURCH
Yes!
Agreed. I like the way flagrant roasted will and jada after it!! Best thing until this!
That's actually genius.
Good one, but I was thinking he was talking about how big and muscular Will was as the Genie in Aladdin ❤
@@Glennlee123 never saw it lol.
😂yeah that slick mouth will keep getting him slapped
Cheers!

Smith made a party after the slap

I think that waiting for all this time to address what happened to him was the smartest thing he could have ever done. Because nobody is going to forget about it ,they’re just waiting for him to say something ,now he’s got everybody’s attention. That was brilliant! 😊
Chris Rock was brilliant. He's got class I love him even more now than ever.
He didn't wait. He's been making jokes about the slap in his live shows since it happened.
Yes he got paid by Netflix. Chris was kind enough not sue Will Smith for assault which he could have .
This!!
On point 👍
Maybe this is what CR was pre-empting: Reducing WS to a little fish!
Good catch 👍👍
Everything about this was very strategic. Not saying Jada's name, pointing out what Will's anger was really about (does anyone really believe it was about her hair?), to saying being punched hurt more than words- then using words to eviscerate him, to releasing the special right before the 2023 Oscar's being aired. Well played.
I just got finished watching the Oscars and it felt good to hear Jimmy Kimmel make several jokes at Will’s expense about the “incident”.
@@judymurray191 It was brilliant. Blatant criticism of the audience and Academy's response to the incident, as well as criticism of Will Smith's behavior.
He's a mastermind
Excellent observation!
His name was even Oscar 😮
I am all for CR using this as his chance to address it.
Agreed
It was very appropriate what Chris Rock did! You don't get to hurt someone and tell them how to react! You go Chris! Excellent performance
good point
The “Because I had parents” comment from Chris was not a low blow for me, it was actually amazing!! 😂😂😂😂 2 thumbs up for Chris.. 👍👍
I100% agree with you. ESPECIALLY for the comment that follows " because I had parents" comment. That had absolutely nothing to do with Will's abusive Dad. It's universal in Black families since always and Will knew better.
@@TamTam-qe1hr universal in all families
@@juliekeenan9684 Let me be clear as I guess I was trying to say it without saying it but that didn't work. Some things are universal in BLACK families and I would add families of Color as I said based on what Chris Rock said AFTER he made the comment, "I have parents". He followed it up and closed his show with, " you don't fight in front of white folks." That's what I was referring to when I said it is universal in all BLACK families. Now, that wouldn't be universal or even relevant in ALL families, would it?
Plus, I don't think he so much laid in on Will's bad parents but on the embarrassing fact that he acted as if he didn't have any at all.
Your brother is 100% correct
@Clyde Mbah natural consequence for his actions no?
That’s why Rock called it a PUNCH instead, to lessen the humiliation, even though it was clearly a slap
Preach!
PLEASE READ ALL OF THIS COMMENT:
CHRIS ROCK IS A GENIUS
He said, " I'M A ZEBRA, HE'S A SHARK,".
CHRIS ROCK MADE NO MISTAKES OR ERRORS IN HIS SHOW
This was the perfect comeback from Chris. With words, showing he's the better man. A roast instead of a lawsuit for assault.
A roast that will earn Chris a lot of money through his own talent and hard work, instead of a lawsuit that would have only taken away some of the money earned by Will Smith.
Chris gave the audience exactly what they wanted
It's interesting he waited a long time to do this. He's had time to process all his emotions instead of being immediately reactive. To me, this really reveals how he feels.
Intelligence Way to get even with humor. 👍🏼👍🏽
As a child, whitnessing abuse done by an adult in my life, I have never thought "That is how we roll."
So, my take on this is that the last part was also for Will to see what kind of role-model he is to his children. Chris underlined that he was raised well by his parents. Will did not do a good job as a parent.
And now Smith son is saying he will spit on n Chris Rock. Total nonsense and just shows how fd up smith family is. Chris Rock is a professional and has every right to speak up
Well spoken. I was disgusted by that kids remark too. It made me feel that despite all their money, that boy is no better than any ghetto kid.
@@sandysnow2566THAT Smith would well likely get his narrow rump stumped...he needs to find himself and grow up.
That was my take too. Less about how Will was raised and more about how Will is raising his kids and the bad example he has been.
The parent comment dissed both of them at the end.
@@silkyslim2111 who never bothered him? Did you listen to the show?
@@silkyslim2111 The joke was actually a very nice one. Being likened to Demi Moore in GI Jane is a compliment. Not only did Moore rock the bald look, she was in incredible shape. Just giving a shout out to someone during the Oscars is very nice (they are actors, they like attention) Sadly, there is no pleasing Will's wife. And all it took was one eye roll to send her lap dog husband into that bizarre performance.
I agree
The year long wait carried that much more impact and I savored it as well 🎉
What did Jada do?
What did Jada do....she got "entagled" with her son s friend...this is why Will Smith was sooo sensitive with any jokes 😂
Now Smith wants to sue and get in his feelings about it playing the victim...says a lot about his character
At the end, Chris threw his Mic on the stage & raided his arm ( victory or DONE?)
Walked off the stage w a stoic face. At this point I was in tears.
All through, I felt he was teaching me something.
He always presents to me as insightful, & yes, funny. I always learn from him through his talented comedy!
He WAS raised well!
Ditto. Tears just flowed. The humilation that he felt that night was beginning to be vindicated.
The way he crafted his words talking about the way he raised his children when he got his daughter expelled to teach her a lesson, as opposed to the Smiths' laissez-faire approach by subliminally putting across that "he has parents" that was genius. He hit all the birds of the Smiths' household with one stone. 🤔🔥
At the expense of his ex wife and kids. Yes.

Me too! That is really not easy to watch. It really hurts! That pain was not just physical...
I can’t watch it either. I turn my head every time it pops up. The first time was MORE that enough. That humiliation hurt me to my core.
There is a profound beauty in humiliation as a victim. A vulnerable human resonates to our core spirit of One Love
That all of you state how much seeing the assault on Chris Rock hurt you (as it did and does me, and I'm sure, millions of others, too), goes to show the magnitude of the damage done not only by Will Smith's actions but, ultimately, by Jada Smith for instigating it in the first place.
I think everyone should keep her name out their mouths
Totally agree, u have said it best. Really feel for chris. As for will, what can anyone say, as long as he's with his wife he will never get better.
Yes I noticed that as well - I almost teared up!
much respect to Chris...I believe he handled the situation w finesse!

I've tried and failed to forget the look of pure glee, on Wills' face after he slapped Chris. He was so proud of himself. I also don't forget the ones that stood behind Will that night, there was a lot of respect lost that night, that's for sure.
He was thinking that Jada would finally respect him.
A LOT of respect lost, especially when they clapped after WS speech. Hollywood hypocrites!!!
EXACTLY!
I always liked Chris Rock. And his stand up show was so good! Good job Chris.

This is exactly what I was getting. He was angry at what happened but really hurt as well!
Exactly! 💯
I felt that hurt from Chris, which is why I wasn't laughing in the end.
You hit the nail on the head! It left me sad because I feel that Chris will feel pain over this for a long time.😥
At the end of the routine it showed how hurt and vulnerable Chris still is, this incident reallyyy affected him. You could see it in his eyes and his face at the end too. I really wish he pursued additional help to deal with this ordeal. The incident at the Oscars hurt Chris more than we will ever know.
I think Chris Rock’s words were exactly what people expected. It was probably therapeutic and satisfying for Chris to finally speak his mind.

Timing was everything, and it opened up the scab that Will can't attend them this year.

adding my two cents: the word i have to describe Will Smith and Jada and even the kids to some degree is “smug”
Chris had his brothers to talk real shit too!!!
Yup. The reason is really always the same - no matter how the relationship is labeled : CONTROL.
But the point of cheating is often to do it because it's not allowed, I feel like, for many people.
@@uranusneptun5239 doesn't make the betrayal any less.
Totally agree. I was clapping for Chris when he finally went after Will.
*YES!!!!*

Yup
@wes2456 Stop kissing his butt just because he held his silence until he found the biggest paycheck.
Chris Rock did an amazing job. He did it intelligently and hit harder, then Will hit him. His aggressiveness was 100% warranted. Love Chris Rock
I loved that about the ending of the Netflix show! It was perfection.
I totally agree! I got teary eyed at the end & I wondered why? But , you summed it up perfectly
Well said.
So he was telling Will Smith he was a bas parent too.
completely agree, it was done very brillantly to the point that Will cant complain about it without looking like a bad parent then.
When he said "I was raised"
Omg yes! And how the Smiths children really have no consequences and are never told No!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who caught this
👏👏👏👏
Also pay attention to his comedy bit about his daughter. It isn’t just violent parents who teach children to be violent. Rock went the other way and “spoiled” his daughter, the biter. But when, as a parent, he let her suffer the consequences of bad behavior, she matured and is a wonderful person. The parenting theme is important to Rock in this performance.
Yes! He couldn’t attack Smith’s family so Rock just gave a better example; his family.
His legacy. His children….versus those weird kids will have lol
He really told a lot of truths. About the kids and some of the woke stuff. How ridiculous it has become.
Maybe Chris didnt hit back, because he can't, simple as that. His obnoxious voice does the fighting for him.
@NightLifeDJs Chris could have easily hit back that night. In fact, he started to and stopped himself. Chris is the epitome and the embodiment of restraint, shrew acumen, and impeccable timing.
… in front of white people”
I don`t care how old or famous Chris is I am willing to bet that if he had hit back at the Oscars he would have felt fortunate if all that his mother did was tan his behind. His momma did raise him right. Good for her!
@@yubantwo2086 IYou are incorrect, you need to revisit the video and play it 10x
@@renastone1270 Chris should have mentioned that Will Smith failed to apologize like a man.
@@renastone1270 I agree, after being humiliated on the world stage and not even reaching out or trying to reach out to apologise which is what Chris Spokesperson says and it contradicts Will's own statement then I'm sorry but everything is fair game and Chris has earned the right to say whatever he wants.
It's all fair game in the world of comedy when you've been slapped in front of your parents and family.
That's how I took it, too, @Sunnydreamer1470
That is how I interpreted it as well.
I didn’t take it that way. I immediately thought but you are on national tv attacking Will, Jada, ex-wife, daughter, R Kelly, Michael Jackson, Meagan Markle, and Kim Kardashian. Attack some white people please. And some white women especially.
I 100% agree with your comment!
Agree with your take!
He’s telling will - you are your father.
He went there - nothing happened, no one got slapped 😂
In reference to the shark joke, Chris Rock is brilliant 👏 he knows that Will was a small fish in that movie. But, by not really caring and just calling it a shark movie gives the point that Will was in a shark animated movie and also that Chris probably didn't even care to watch it. AND when people like you and everyone who noticed this "error" in the joke, we then realized that Will is and was in fact just a small fish looking for his identity.
Or it could have just been an error since the films called sharks tale.
@@knittlesI don't think there was a single element that hadn't been carefully fact checked and worked out thoroughly. Chris Rock is one very intelligent comedian. Massive props to him from Scotland!
That’s my thinking of it as well
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
I totally agree with you
When Chris mentioned why he didn’t strike back because of his parents and the way he was raised I believe was to be respectful of his parents and knowing that he was being a responsible adult who can manage issues in the correct arena at the right time, he took the higher road 👏🏻
He took the high road until the comedy special. That was a gut punch. High road was Jimmy Kimmel’s jokes. Chris was out to induce pain.
There are several groups in America who are always seen as violent, low class etc.,
& people from those groups can’t just behave any way & still be seen as upright, respectable members of society.
He used his medium to express his feelings and I think he did it excellently.
“The Artist”
@@DiZZoLabs Truth! He did go back to going by Prince, but he was an artist.
@@domarigavjusmom I believe the symbol was displayed to focus in on “The Contract” of the presentation of the show.
As in “the artist” will X, Y, Z. By doing so he will ______.
Just my rando thoughts 🤷♂️
He left it on stage and took it to the bank. Good for him, I say. I You didn't comment on the very last line, even more cutting I felt. I loved the show and respect how he's handled the whole thing. I never noticed he had in fact 'kept his wife's name out of his mouth. Superb!
It was harsh, and Will 100% had it coming. I respect Chris for keeping his composure in that absurd moment. Imagine having someone you thought was your friend attack you like that, on a world stage none the less!
Imagine having a friend making fun of you and your wife on National tv ?I would feel betrayed as well. 😢
@@Urbanochismestv COMEDY is expected in the Oscars monologue. She was bald...he'd have been remiss had he NOT mentioned it. Likening her to GI Jane was rather the low-hanging fruit. Chris sure got him back though. LOL
And to perform live in Jadas' home town, that was backhand slip as well‼️
@@evettecampbell Wow.
“PR Sorry Tour” 😂😂😂😂. You’re SO RIGHT 🙌🏽
I think its kind of genius how he made Will squirm waiting a year to speak. Pretty sure Will expected something like this from a comedian of Chris’ stature but instead of doing it quickly he waited. Like when u know ur in trouble with ur parents but they dont say anything right away and the anticipation is worse than the punishment. U just want to know whats gonna happen to u lol.
Revenge better serve cold
@@spiritualjoy721 thats hilarious lol evil genius cuz theres no snow to retaliate😂
YES! This. My parents would often ask…..do you want your punishment now, or later?? It was a tough decision!
😁👍
I'm glad he said what he said. Jada belongs to the streets.
All day. Errr day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
*the sewer
Jada’s red chair show is too personal and negative about her life with Will Smith.
He called her talented? What exactly is she talented at? Fucking famous black people?
@@paulchristian7693 she's emasculated Will every chance she's gotten. Obviously it wasn't an open marriage or he wasn't ok with it in the end because she had him crying. That doesn't look like consent to this woman. No wonder he's out there with all that anger.
Chris Rock is proof that you don’t need to resort to violence to put some body on their ass.
Will Smith seems to have a lot of hidden anger needs a lot of therapy to deal with his Hollywood fake life.
🙌🙌 right!
So true
Your talk about adding compliments to have people listen to you more reminded me of a strategy I learned when I taught swim lessons/coached swim team called “the compliment sandwich.”
“Those dry lands are really paying off with your kicks. During this next sprint let’s focus on timing your breathing with so you don’t lose that amazing power around your flip turn.”
P.S. I regularly check your channel for new content & yet somehow miss videos 😭
He did not embarrass himself unless he felt embarrassed you can’t say if he was embarrassed
@@godschildyes That joke he told about Jada was a compliment. Get it straight. I've seen all of his specials and have only seen him do one distasteful joke: The one about understanding why OJ Killed his wife--that was too much for me. I like to think he has learned though that that was a bit over the line.
Two points Spidey:
That's missing from this analysis. Missing a lot.
Well said.
I agree on most what youre saying but Chris did not get embrassed, Will Smith, embrassed himself. Being sucker-punched is not a sign of weakness.
I can only say, I remember Jada laughed when Will hit Chris. You even mentioned it yourself Spidey. I think they absolutely got what they deserved. Brilliantly done Chris !
Great stuff Spidey! I was confused about the shark reference as well but on a second analysis I think CR and his team kept it in because it was funny and that people would fact check him and see that WS only played a small fish with identity issues (perhaps secretly wishing to be a shark) 😂
smart. YES.
I love his comeback!! He did brilliantly. He used his words brilliantly. Nothing inappropriate, nothing provoking. His truth in true comedy! Couldn't stop laughing
@TiffanyxEmpathy he just called it how he saw it. I'm guessing you're with the group that's okay with physical abuse.
