I had an office job for over 24 years and it was killing me and my vision was horrible. I decided to humble myself and get a job with UPS as a seasonal driver and I have to admit, being outside all day and after the sun goes down and looking at the numbers on houses to drop off packages has improved my vision significantly. I can clearly see at night now after a month of working there; not to mention I lost 14 lbs. On top of my diet, eating my keto and vitamins, especially vitamin A. I am a female, age 49.

When doing nutrition consulting, in the absence of bloodwork and the specialized equipment, I'd ask a simple question: "If you go into a dark movie theater, how long does it take your eyes to adjust to the darkness--5 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds or a minute?" If the answer is more than 15 seconds, there was a good chance they were vitamin A deficient.
I had one occasion to be a bit arrogant when a woman came into my health food store. After greeting her, I asked her, "Have you considered that the reason you get chest colds is because of your low vitamin A levels?" It was a jaw-dropping moment for her. She had come during the evening wearing sunglasses, and I noticed her skin that showed signs of inflammation. When asked why she wore sunglasses even when it was dark, she said she thought it looked cool. After she had taken vitamin A for a couple of weeks, she returned for more; her skin looked better, and she was not wearing sunglasses! When asked why, she said she thought it was better for people to see her eyes when communicating.
No one's brain is going to spontaneously relate sensitivity to bright lights and glare to a lack of vitamin A, but will instead resolve the "cognitive dissonance" by a comfortable rationalization such as looking cool. We had an extended conversation regarding the multiple roles vitamin A plays with vision, skin health, and immune response of the lungs and mucus membranes (your "skin" on the inside).

Vitamin a and vitamin D fight a bit for dominance. It’s good to get a blood test to make sure you’re supplementing the right thing and not getting a toxic amount of the wrong thing. It would actually make sense for me to have a vitamin a deficiency for three reasons beyond the difficulty seeing in the dark while young. One I don’t eat vitamin a rich foods. Two I heavily supplement with vitamin D. I never drink alcohol, yet my liver could actually be better for my age.
Again, even some pharmacist will test your blood to see if you have deficiencies in an area.

I started taking cod liver oil because I watched one of your previous videos regarding it. I was having a really bad case of dry eyes. I kept artificial tears in my purse and had a few around the house like that's how bad it was even bought 3 warm mist humidifiers.
I've tried omega 3 fish oil in the past but would break out in a rash so I was truly hesitant on trying cod liver oil, and the artificial tears was losing its touch.... My so-called vitamin A deficiency signs turned about to be caused by low zinc status. The metabolism of vitamin A into retinaldehyde and retinoic acid, the active forms, requires zinc at each metabolic step. I needed Zinc picolinate before I was able to absorb and correct properly.

    • @AllThingsConsidered333

@@shantube75 And are you aware of the research associating moderate to high vitamin A status with weight gain, obesity, and diabetes? Vitamin A is a nutrient that is rising in dietary consumption and fortification. Vitamin A has a counterbalancing relationship with vitamin D. My vitamin D would not go up to a good level until I stopped vitamin A. Presumably zinc is being used up in it's role as a vitamin A detoxifier. Explains a lot. I'm 45 years old, i don't wear glasses, I'm healthy weight and go to the gym 3-5 times a week. I find that if i get less than 7 hours sleep, the next day i cant focus on close objects as good as when i sleep 8 hours plus, especially when looking at my phone or trying to read something. Its even worse if i drink alcohol the night before, and worse in low levels of light. I always thought its just my age, or im on my computer too much, but now im gonna try consuming more Vitamin A. Thanks again Dr B

I was having trouble with my eyes, especially my right eye. When I would blink I would notice strange persistence of vision spots that would appear for an instant. I was having trouble with car headlights and also street lights. Also my right eye was feeling some minor soreness. I went to the eye clinic and they gave my eyes a complete examination. They told me this was normal for someone in his mid 50's, and that I didn't have glaucoma, a detached retina, macular degeneration or any other problem. I went away sort of relieved but they offered me no solutions. Obviously I needed to solve my own problem. It didn't take me more than an hour to so searching online to realize that I needed some Vitamin A. I actually ran out and bought some beta carotene and started taking it. My problems began to resolve within a few days. No more soreness, no more blinking visual effects, and no more persistence of vision problems. The eye specialist never mentioned nutritional solutions to me. I will never go back there again. Since then I have successfully helped two other people who were experiencing eye trouble by telling them about vitamin A.

Also Dr. Berg, can you please talk about floaters, why some people have them and how to get rid of them? Thanks a bunch for all you do! 🤓

Aside from having bright blue eyes (from being born with PKU and re-diagnosed to Mild Benign HPU) apparently, I don't need to worry about this simply because my night vision is WAY too good. If even a single light is on somewhere in the house, it's enough for me to be able to see without problem. Makes it nearly impossible for me to get good sleep without the house being black-out dark.

Like if you are carrots every day without fail surely you wouldn't need 20lbs every day for the effects to remain present? And based on pill intake, how long do stuff remain in your body for instance i know with magnesium of you take more than your body can absorb you pee/poop the extra. And when it comes to 5htp there is a maximum speed of conversation into serotonin so there's no point taking more than needed either. Would love these details in your videos about all nutrients and minerals :3

@@di4085 Thank you for asking. Labs were done on Vitamin A. I was normal. This started a huge war between me and my Hepatologist because of what Vitamin A can do to harm the liver. I had started going to a new P.C., since mine retired. I told her that I wanted to “ try taking a small amount of Vitamin A, and that if she agreed, we could do Vitamin A Labs every 4 months, to see what the affects will be and whether I am to stay on the amount, lower it, or stop “. So, this is how we left it. The night of 11-6-2023, I started taking Vitamin A daily. After that one day in Opthalmology where my eyes responded soooooo positively, I have not had any further response. However, my gums appear to be responding and also my nails are getting stronger. So, I am encouraged……the doctors are waiting to pounce…….and I am butt-headedly still taking it every night. For ME……the goal is getting my eyes in better shape. Dry eyes. A diagnostic test is- When you blink your vision changes. This is a big issue with night issues. The peripheral cornea gets distorted- eyes dilate. I suspect that dry eyes is technology use and insulin resistance of the glands that provide the aqueous/lipid parts of the tear lake. Also, if you want functional takes of visual processing- don't ever see an Ophthalmologist- see a vision therapy or neuro rehab Optometrist. If you want surgery/systemic issues concerning the eyes see ophthalmologists
