  • Based on the subscribers request, I have put together all the videos and made this simple and easy to follow guide on setting up Oscar fish aquarium with plants. This video has been split into few sections, starting with painting the aquarium stand and canopy and then aquascaping Oscar fish aquarium.
    Once I have planted some hardy aquarium plants in the Oscar fish tank, I went ahead with setting up the filtration system. It consists of a canister filter and and internal powerhead filter.
    After cycling the Oscar aquarium, I added 2 tiger Oscars and few tank mates. Clown loaches goes well in an Oscar tank as bottom dwellers and stay out of these giants. Red-blood parrot fish are peaceful fish and have been kept successfully with Oscar fish.
    I hope you enjoy this video and find this complete step by step guide in setting up planted Oscar aquarium useful. I have also written a detailed article on my blog to assist those who like to read and photos from the tank might inspire you more www.fishaholic.... I would suggest don't buy Oscar fish unless you read this article, there are few things you should know prior to keeping these beautiful giants.
    Thank you

      Cleaning the mechanical filtration is very crucial to ensure clean water flows through biological filtration. Thank you for your comment

      Thin foam usually comes with the filter. I usually change it to any thickness available in the market when foam can't be clean any further and requires changing. Appreciate your feedback

    What type of wood is it? What are the measurements of the aquarium? What brand is the filter? Thank you so much.

    hey mate, thanks for the video it was very helpful.
    this cannister setup was different from your other video, you used 2 trays for mechanical filtration on your oscar tank, is it due to their heavy bio load?
    will set up my filter just like yours.

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  2 года назад

      Hi mate, yea it is because of the bio load of Oscar Fish as mechanical filtration is as important as biological filtration. I have used seachem matrix which is way better in filtration than ceramic bio media

      @@Fishaholic agreed, I use matrix on my 3ft community tank with hob filter.
      Just waiting on my cannister now for the Oscar tank. Thanks again.

      @@FishaholicMarine pure Ceramic block is a good biomedia with greater surface area for growth of beneficial bacteria.

  • @smile1234happy
    @smile1234happy 2 года назад

    Does those bacteria balls work how long did it took for your 6ft tank to cycle?

    • @Fishaholic
      @Fishaholic  2 года назад

      Not sure about the efficiency of these bio balls as they release bacteria slowly over time and takes over a month to dissolve completely. I still add them for continuous supply of additional bacteria if required.
      I connected canister filter to one of my other tank and let it run for over month to ensure there is enough live colonies of bacteria in the media before moving to the Oscar tank. Clown loaches were added first to the tank to feed the bacteria.

    Mine must be broken then cause only 1 of mine likes live food the other one hides in the farthest corner away from their meal and neither are aggressive towards anyone other than each other after their 3failed first spawns after that it was WW III in my 4x2x2 120g hence 2 Oscars 2 tanks now

      @@Fishaholic perfectly cut 20-30ppi foam, buy precut for your canister if you can, so you don't get water bypassing the media. Second best option is pot scrubbers, tightly packed.
      Check out my latest video how I packed 154 pot scrubbers in a huge Eheim canister
      These will give you 4-6 times more ammonia oxidation than Matrix, and much better flow.
