As a African keeper do u really like Oscar's? Do u think its worth keeping them ? I love them! Just wondering how u really fell about them. Like more of what u think the down side to keeping them or something hit me back
Jason Schmisek I love keeping Oscar cichlids. Their personality and look is something I really like. If you have different tanks and can keep both, I would highly recommend it!
My mom used to have an Oscar, and every time my dad would walk in the room he would play dead and sink to the bottom of the tank. When he left the Oscar was just fine. It just really didn’t like my dad.
This is guy is the most talkative oscar keeper I've seen on RUclips. I've never seen someone talk so much about Oscars. I've always wanted to keep them but still don't have the space for it. Thanks for all the info dude. Taking notes until I have the space for it.
I just recently got two oscars and I only have a 10 gallon tank for since it was a hand me down, but I am planning on buying them a bigger tank, I don’t want to keep them too cramped in there. This video helps a lot thank you dude, I can actually use this as a first time Oscar owner!
If you have 2 Oscar's you want about 125 gallons to house them properly. But you could probly get a way with a 75 with no decor other then sand or rocks. if you can't find anything else.
Just bought a 6ft x 2ft x 2ft 150. It's for my turtle and Amazon fish ecosystem. I'm in LOVE with the Oscar fish! So already planning on another tank the same size for some Oscar fishes! Really can't wait, but it's going to take at least 9 months I think. Doing lots of research, and videos like yours, so thank you very much for the information! 😃
I've been keeping Oscars for more than 10 years now ...from getting 2 albino oscars...breeding them ...keeping 2 of their fries ...I've learnt a lot ...and I know ... this man speaks truth and facts
Remember the song "Ebony and Ivory"? I'm singing it in my head right now. LOL. Anyway... my Oscars, Ricky and Lucy, started out in a 10 gallon, then moved to a 20 gallon long, then to a 50 gallon, and finally to their forever home - a 120 gallon. No tank mates at the moment, but I am thinking of adding my larger species pleco or my senigal bichars when they get bigger. Not sure if that will work or not.
My Oscar is also named Felix, I've had him for 4 years now. He's been in a 55 gallon the whole time. He's doing well, his tank mates are a red devil, I think is a female and a jack Dempsey, Felix is the biggest at 10"and they seem to get along well with each other. I'm looking to upgrade to a 75 soon.
I'm absolutely in love with this channel. I just got a baby oscar. Less then 1in. Currently in a 50gal tank. I do have a 160gal tank which he will be in once he grows a bit. Question. Can you send me a video on your feeding habits and foods and tank cleaning routine. Ty

My birthday is coming up and I just really hope my mom let's me get an oscar. They seem like very sweet fish. She wouldn't mind me getting a fish at all, it's just the tanks size that's the problem lol. I do have enough space in my bedroom though.
I'm thinking about getting an Oscar when the smaller fish in my Aquarium dies, I have a 75 gallon tank but could transfer him to a 100 gallon if I ever want to get two of them. My dad used to have one, and he was very social and funny. Might get one this weekend.
Hi, I bought an Oscar which is amazing, and introduced him to my 2 other oscars which are smaller, but he is quite a bully, would he calm down and integrate?
Found a 75 with a few, would like to take them in and rehome them, i can't keep them myself but, im glad i watched this so if i end up getting them i know how to care for them
Not feeling it for Ebony and Ivory. Loved the movie references though. They made me laugh and remember some good times. I think you should call the albino Lennon and the dark one Hendrix.
Quite the coincidence! I was just given three half dead baby oscars that were being murdered by some jack dempsey's in Petco. This was very well done! Great info and advice :)
When I got mine I was so excited when I raised it they was about that big at yours at the start of your video I had a tiger Oscar and a albino tiger Oscar they was always swimming together the albino one was the smaller runt so one day I’m looking at my fish tank and then the tiger Oscar just bites a hole in the albino Oscar and it dies

Not looking for a fight but I have seen a Oscar kept pretty well in a 40 gallon breeder vs a 50/55 gallon aquarium. The 40 having over filtration and minimal decor for extra swimming space. Maintained with spot cleans and multiple weekly water changes to keep water parameters at acceptable levels. The 40 gallon breeder’s width is 18 inches vs some 50/55 gallons being way too narrow with around 12-14 inches in width. Personally being in the hobby for years now, I would say a 60 gallon breeder is the smallest you should go based off of width/turnaround space for your Oscar and bioload not a 50/55.
I’ve kept Oscars in 40s before. The issue that I’ve had was when they became full grown (10+ inches). While it can work, it’s a bit cramped. That’s why I always recommend 75 and up. This offers the 18” front-to-back space that you mentioned. Thanks for sharing…nothing to fight about. 🙂

Out of curiosity does the “inch per gallon” rule not apply for Oscars? reason I ask is I have a 125 gallon and with the inch per gallon rule I could put 8 assuming they grew to 15” each? I have 6 in there now but they are still young
The inch per gallon rule is actually bad advice given by many chain pet stores. For some fish it can work. For example, ten 1” tetras in a 10 gallon aquarium could possibly work (proper filtration, plants, etc.). However, you cannot put a 10” Oscar in a 10 gallon tank, or 8 of them in a 125 as you are suggesting. In fact, when yours grow larger, 6 will be 3-4 too many in your 125. You may have to give away or sell some of them, or get a second tank for the others.
