These cameras can be deceptive with how far away things are. This dude cut in very late, and braked very hard. If you were in the driver seat, this would probably look pants shittingly close.

Or maybe don't just try to merge without looking at your surroundings, they aren't entitled to merging when they can't do it just yet.
@@aleaallee how do you know they didn’t look? They had plenty of room to merge until cam car started speeding up. Not everyone on the road is a road rule lawyer, if you see someone trying to merge and they’re being reasonable about it just give them the space, even if you don’t technically have to. Attitudes like yours cause just as many accidents as actual bad drivers.
5:23 Does not seem very smart to be driving 76 MPH in rainy and low visibility conditions. Luckily Cyrus C’s good brakes and tires saved him from his own poor judgments.
Not to mention the cammer laying on the horn at cars with drivers shook up after the near wipeout. Not accomplishing anything by barging through honking at everyone instead of driving cautiously and staying to the right, not cruising the left lane.

At 6:20 the dude with the camera had PLENTY of time to slow down/stop to avoid an accident. Red SUV was in the wrong, but if you don't actively pay attention and try to avoid a very avoidable collision, no way you're not in the wrong too.

One time before dash cams I saw a guy in a pickup run a red light and crash into a Mercedes full ladies on their lunch break. I stopped to be a witness, and the pickup driver asked me “Was the light really red?” I said “Oh yeah, it was red for a while.” He said “Dang, I just came out of KFC and was reachin’ for another piece of chicken.”
I can't blame you or the cop for almost bursting out laughing. That is a stupid, but hilarious reason for someone to back up into your car.

@amak1131 Who cares. You're supposed to yield when turning left on a green light, there was 2 other cars they didnt yield to either. In fact that truck you mentioned she should have yielded to.
A number of these accidents could’ve been avoided by more defensive driving, like breaking early, driving to the conditions (not doing 75 mph in the rain), or yielding even when the other driver is in the wrong

My opinion is that cam car is getting on the highway, so they had to speed up, regardless of if someone was trying to merge or not. You’re not getting on the highway at 20mph, you have to speed up. I bet they didn’t even see the white car coming over until they hit the horn. But either way, white car should not have tried to jump the line & cut someone off, that’s the real dick move. Cammer has right of way bc they’re already in the lane. White car should have respected the rules of the road.

If you could see the red car and went anyway, you need to be at least partially at fault. You dont just go when you see a car in front of you.

What happened to that biker is tragic. My heart goes out to him. As a motorcyclist though after every incident I’ve been in, I walk away (luckily) thinking what could I have done to have prevented this even it was clearly the other guy’s fault. At the end of the day that has to be your mindset when you hop on two wheels and surround yourself with other drivers on 4 wheels.

Yep, its unreal how many accidents are caused by people seeing a gap in one lane and just going, without seeing if the other lane is clear or not. Its also why I wont leave a gap like that if there are two lanes. Im not letting someone in if they could just get hit by a car in the other lane.
Some people get very comfortable & complacent with driving carelessly & forget they're piloting a large machine that is entirely capable of seriously injuring someone at even low speeds. An abundance of caution is appreciated.
4:45 Legally the other driver was at fault, but a painful lesson learned for the motorcyclist: If cars going your same direction in the adjacent lane are stopped, there's a reason, and it's dangerous to just zip right past them. Slow down so you can see everything that's going on before you pass.

bro, it literally only take one left turn driver to stop a whole lane. No one will stop for someone to pass as it creates a dangerous situation, if they have a right of way (which they don't) then ofc they're gonna stop though.
There was no room for them on the other side is why the cars at the light weren't moving. But this is just unfortunate, this bike was in a blind spot almost the entire way down the road the other driver would of only been able to see the biker pretty much when they made contact :/ bad set of circumstances for sure but im not really sure it was avoidable.

@@blankiepoo I guess yeah but at the same time the biker was hugging the left side of the lane. If he was at least on the right side he would've had a better view and same with the car. If he was also on the right side of the lane, and did that little manuever, he might have been able to avoid getting hit.

Not from the US but the bike lanes here are less than a foot wide and flanked by parking spaces on one side, road on the other. the fact such little thought is given to the most vulnerable road users is ridiculous.

Drove into the bus lane, probably due to impatience (cause the road wasn't so busy that it would be difficult to merge), and then proceeded to cut someone off when there was no one behind them... and then didn't know why the other driver was upset. Yes, the driver who got cut off shouldn't have done anything because now they're liable for the damages, but the cammer should know that he messed up first

His view was completely obstructed by the line of traffic. Smart bikers don't expect nothing to happen, but you expect every A-hole is pulling out in front of you. I don't believe that truck was STOPPED, but was stopping because the toyota truck was pulling out in front of him. The guy on the bike should have seen the brake lights to his left, but he missed them.

I credit Idiots In Cars with saving me from a minor accident today. I was driving along in the left lane, everything seemed fine and this Chevy Aveo changed lanes from the far right lane, and then started inching over. Before, I wouldn’t have believed someone would be such an idiot, but thanks to IIC my Spidey sense is well honed, and I braked just in time. He moved all the way over while I was already honking, into the space where I would have been, then turned left.

I'm reminded that many incidents are partially caused by the cam car driving way too fast. Cars attempting to enter the right of way from a stop either misjudge the window of opportunity or don't see the cam car after checking both ways because of its rate of speed.
Driving too fast is as much cause for problems as people that exit the highway at the last moment from the far lane, red light runners, or those that double merge into the wrong lane when entering the highway.
One other mention: the cam car that moved into an intersection when the red Acura turned left illegally and went for self. What were you thinking? You could have waited for the SUV to complete their turn, but instead it seems you willfully drove to the point of impact. Now your vehicle has damage, and for what?
Yield, even if the right of way is yours and your ego screams eff that, if it avoids a senseless collision.

He had just rounded a corner, he was accelerating up to the speed limit. He then applied the brakes and swerved away once he saw the other vehicle crossing the 'suicide lane', thereby avoiding the accident.
No gear change, still in 2nd after the corner and accelerating smoothly. The camera's perspective didn't shift upward due to sudden acceleration. What exactly do you find objectionable here, and why did you state "it was totally AVOIDABLE" when it was very clearly AVOIDED?
You accused the cammer of speeding up to "initiate contact", despite the fact that we just watched him take evasive maneuvers to prevent contact. The left-turning vehicle failed to yield the right-of-way to established traffic, creating a hazard for other road users. How does that equate to some wrongdoing on the part of the Mini?
@@AtlasJotun The DRAMA was clearly avoidable. If he gets off the gas when he first sees the guy turning, there is no drama, and no 'near miss'. Instead, he keeps accelerating right up to near contact, and swerves around him. A good defensive driver would've got off the gas, let the guy smoothly enter the lane, then proceeded. This guy clearly does the "I'm not letting this guy cut me off" routine, then plays the victim.

Doesn’t matter, the white car was following the cam car before the cam car changed lanes, but then the white car speeds up and tries to get in front of cam car but forgets in the 2 seconds that cam car was ever there. White car shouldn’t even need to check blind spots and cam car would never expect white car to be that dumb
I used to teach motorcycle safety courses.. Always would preach, drive as if you are invisible .. at intersections especially .. cover your brakes so you have a quicker response and make sure you have the whole intersection in view, if not slow down and expect someone to cut in front of you.. Biker never slowed for the intersection where his vision was partially blocked by the car in the left lane.. it blocked him from seeing the oncoming traffic left lane.. He should have slowed down.. I mean it is totally the cars fault.. but it could have been avoided too..

Yea, just as that line of cars hid the turning one from view until it was too late, they probably hid the motorcyclist from the turning car’s view. She probably didn’t even see him until a second before impact. I always wait for a protected left if I can’t be 100% certain there is no one coming, it just isn’t worth taking the risk to save a few seconds.
@@povertyspec9651 Oh absolutely and the car here was totally at fault.. I was just going over what we taught on the courses and what we would coach a rider on after something like this.. we would use videos of these types of incidents in our courses all the time, breaking them down and going over everything the biker could have done better. - teaching moments- even when the other driver is at fault.
You need to make yourself as visible as possible, too. If you can’t see the SUV, then they sure as shit can’t see you. The bike should have been over to the right in his lane as much as possible. Still, the car’s fault 100%, but as a rider, I’d sooner live handicap-free than get to say “yeah, well, at least I was right and they were wrong.”
I have been watching this channel for a while and have commented many times that I feel these videos make me a more aware (and possibly) better driver... This being said, I recently switched my primary form of transportation from car to ebike and my god you get a MASSIVELY different perspective on cars. I see a phenomenal amount of red light runners, people barely checking both directions when turning and MOST OF ALL, people who CONTINUALLY THINK they can manage phones while driving.

2:50 is why you always stop AT the stop sign before inching forward to make the turn if clear... it is less likely that the other driver will proceed to make their own checks if you aren't a full vehicle's length past the line when you do stop.

I’ve noticed a few things about US drivers…
1. There’s one one gas pedal position, and it’s flat to the floor.
2. Hit and runs are far more common than they ought to be.
3. Everyone is constantly on their phones, or at least they are when accidents occur (which ought to tell you something, but clearly doesn’t).
This is why we need to do something about our car culture. Driving is a privilege not a right

In Europe the numbers on the car's plates are easy to read even from a distance (like 50/60 feet away), It feels like in the USA you need to be 10 feet away or less in order to be able to clearly see the plate number. From watching this video I assume it is much easier to get away with a hit and run in the US in comparison to EU, even if recorded on dashcam.

The motorcycle driver who got hit could have avoided that accident. When they were approaching the intersection there is a pickup that's just sitting there. Its presence masks the the turning vehicle and the motorcycle from each other. If you can't see the whole intersection, slow down. Don't assume the other driver will see you and yield the right of way.
4:20 Yes, they had right of way, but not everyone stops merging. You are just as at fault for the accident if you force right of way into them (though they are the ones breaking the law).

3:30 that's lawful around here provided there's enough room to safely pass on the shoulder. keeps traffic moving when someone's trying to turn left and there's a lot of oncoming traffic.
If that is Cicero, NY, as I suspect it is, it is not lawful to use the shoulder to pass, unless there is a disabled vehicle or other obstructions. Turning vehicles are not considered obstructions. I had to unlearn that rule when I moved from NY to Colorado where it is legal to pass turning vehicles like in this clip.

I read it when my daughter was getting ready for her written permit test, but I must have glossed over. I generally don’t anyway, just because of my NY training, but if things are getting super backed up, there’s room and it’s clear, I’ll go. Pretty rare for me to do it though.
