She was very beautiful and she seemed so confident in herself. She was such a beacon when she performed. I have a short story: As a kid, I was always taller than all of the kids. There weren’t many tall Black women that I looked up to. When I saw her perform this song live on TV, she became my hero. Later on, after she started working with Gamble and Huff, I heard that she was going to be on Johnny Carson from my teacher at school, as he knew that I loved Phyllis Hyman. So, I begged my parents to let me stay up to see her on Carson, and I would still be able to get up on time for school. After opposition, they relented, sitting up with me to watch her sing Living All Alone, as she wore her black and red outfit. I was such a happy kid when I saw her. After I, for myself, grew to be 6’1 at the age of 14, she was still my hero, and I truly thought that she would live a long time. Today, I realized that she will live a long time through her legacy, as she will never be forgotten. RIP
My Phyllis Hyman fan story is similar. She was and is still definitely a model of class, grace, poise, beauty and style for those of us who are taller and statuesque. I recall being blown away by her presence as a young girl and adored that voice as well!
Check out the body language. So glad the "Estate" finally decided to release this footage. Oh it's always bitter sweet when I see footage. Miss her more than words can say. We love her, but I guess God needed her more.
I was JUST about to comment on the same thing. Arms crossed, legs crossed. Completely guarded and uncomfortable. You wouldn't know based on how well she speaks and expresses her thoughts.
I was at my sister's house awhile back for a get together. Toni Braxton's "Breath Again" video came on TV. I could never figure out all these years, who Toni always remind me of with her voice and style of singing. That's when my older sister said, she always sounded like Phyllis Hyman to me. I said Yep! That's who she sounds like!
@Cleopatra1985 I appreciate the creativity and passion you bring to your project. If the fans don't keep Phyllis' memory alive, no one else will. I especially like the live footage and the original video creations.
This is the closest to a live performance of "You know How to Love Me" that I've ever seen on here. Just wish some1 had the full live version. But still, thanks for posting! Great Clip!!!!
The natural hair community has brought back Ms. Phyllis's hairstyle she was wearing in the very first musical clip😉👌🏿Ms. Phyllis was so beautiful, loving, supportive to her fans, she loved her heritage & culture, & she never forgot where she came from. Ms. Hyman was the tall version of Ms. Patti Labelle👠lol, both are true talented artist, icons, & wonderful women💕
Anybody know what happened here? PH looked as if she was irritated by one of the hostesses on this show but not by the other one. Did something happen before they went live. Check the energy in this clip.
@Cleopatra1985 Oh boo never that. I'm just trying to help you keep your A game 100. Now I'm sure I've posting at least 3 Phyllis Hyman videos since you posted. Plus a couple of extras, that what I got. Check out the channel. Phyllis has appointed me the elder to keep you young'ens on your A game. LOL. You, Charlie Girl and Jessica. You see I got them up and at it, even though they would never admit it:-) Stay well and I'm am so looking forward to your next creation. Peace.
