  • Our Car Review of the 1984 3.2 litre Porsche 911 Carrera. There's a good chance this is the actual car I first did a road trip in back in 1985 when it was brand new. How has it stood the test of time? How have I? Probably not so well. Enjoy our real world drive of this Zuffenhausen classic sports car.

Thanks Mark. Even with a helmet on, it was a lot noisier in real life. Sounds boss, doesn't it?

Bought my 88 five years ago and just happy to be “in”. Would hate to imagine paying the prices they fetch now trying to get one

You must have watched it at double speed mate. It's twenty minutes long and you replied in less than ten!

Thanks Gents for amazing vid, this too is also my hero car seeing it back as a young kid growing up in the black paint and later a yellow bird model.
I loved the look of the 930 and boxer engines ever since. Great to see Targa Tassie clips would sure like to see more, lastly any chance you might gets hands on and try a new BRZ or GR86 would be great to hear your thoughts
    Take care Gents

Thanks Chris. Yes a BRZ definitely possible. See what we can do. And about to embark on Targa Tasmania 2022 in a fast turbocharged RX8, so I expect something will come from that. Stu.

Enjoyed this one. Seems like you “scratched the itch”, but this is not one for the collection. I had a 993 for 14 years before selling on and I do occasionally think about going back. A 964 maybe (a resto mod even better) - but agree - hard to really justify at current prices.

The 964 did not have multilink in the rear.

Stu promised that this wasn’t going to beat the score of the RX3! And I think he’s getting old and soft; put him in a car with no aircon (or ineffective aircon such as this Porsche) on a hot day and he ends up concluding the car is no good!

Clearly I've failed in my communication skills. I did really enjoy the 911. It's a fabulous car and very distinctive in the way it drives. Brought back a lot of great memories. But yes I am old and probably getting soft. As I said in the video, the fabulous cars you've allowed me to ride and drive in have spoiled me - many of them with excellent air-con. Only the crazy prices the early 911s attract was a turn off, but that's no fault of the car. For the record everyone, I loved the 1984 911 Carrera and I'd happily own one. Yes they have foibles that are part of it's charm and characer. Yes, it's fair to say the A/C was never particularly great in the air-cooled cars. But the thing oozes personality and is a joy to drive and enjoy. I would never suggest it was 'no good'!

Haha yes Peter, I’m afraid both Stu and I are old and soft now! We’d better get that cassette player fixed !

I have a '89 3.2 and love it. One drive and I was hooked on the feeling of the car. It's an overgrown go-kart.
