- Toyota TRD (Toyota Racing Development) includes the iconic Toyota Tundra, Tacoma and even the RAV4. It has deep competition hertiage within Toyota. Recently however, Gazoo Racing or GR has risen to be a much more notable presence recently within the lineup. What's the difference between these two brands and what's next for these performance icons?

Toyota Gazoo Racing Development
TRD is mostly associated with their trucks/suv's because of the branding they did in the 80's with Ivan "Ironman" Stewart, their Dakar Rally and FIA Cross Country World Cup teams still compete under the TRD name today.
They'll probably use the GR brand for their cars and keep TRD for their trucks and suv's sine it would be a waste to throw it away.

So in a knutshell between the TRD and GR which is more superior?
Neither. GR is the current focus and encompasses sports cars. TRD encompasses trucks currently.
5:32 the GR Sport aren't purely a GR thing to do. The GR Sport name is the highest trim level on any existing Toyota cars (basically, much like TRD). To me, they might as well stick to the TRD branding as doing that will damage GR's image of making performance Toyota cars from scratch.
GR Sport is used ouside North America, but you're right - it's not the same as GR. Yet another confusing trim level.
TRD, Toyota and Gazoo Racing merged so GR is taking over all the racing department, while TRD is focusing more in off road components. Not sure for how long
@@justinmedina2050In Indonesia, the highest trim levels on some Toyota cars were under the name "TRD Sportivo", but ever since a couple of years ago, it's now named GR Sport.

GR adalah tim balap yang fokusnya membangun mobil balap, TRD adalah rumah modifikasi yang fokusnya meningkatkan performa mobil jalan raya. Harusnya GR cuma disematkan di mobil balap kayak GR Yaris, GR Supra, GR Corolla dan GR86, sedangkan TRD disematkan di mobil jalan raya macam Fortuner, Land Cruiser, Yaris, Agya, Rush, dll yang sekarang diganti jadi GR. Padahal kalau boleh jujur itu cuma ganti logo doang sedangkan fiturnya sama kayak TRD dulu

I think TRD only known in american market even there off-road cars are different from other toyota's market
TRD has been focusing their efforts in the US, but they also have a strong aftermarket presence in Japan.

Might he a shocker to everyone here but TRD will remain long after the GR brand will be gone. Too much history and better known. And right, now TRD is for off road while GR is for the sports car line, and knowing Toyota, they constantly pulled out their sports car lineups in the past, while the likes of the Taco still remains.
Same employees different work shirts. Me personally TRD sounds better.

From now onwards tuned/special cars will be GR Toyota only.
In North America, TRD is mostly focused on trucks. In Japan, TRD focuses on aftermarket parts. I recently purchased a TRD shifter for my GR86.
