Say hello to the drag race you didn’t know you needed… Until today!
We’ve got our hands on the all-new MG 4 XPower and it’s set to go up against a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Nissan GT-R R35!
Now on the face of it, you may think that the MG is set to get absolutely crushed! But trust us, this is no normal MG. You see, whereas the normal MG 4 is equipped with a single electric motor that can deliver 203hp, the XPower comes with dual motors and the ability to produce 435hp and 600Nm of torque! That’s enough to propel it to 60mph in just 3.8 seconds, and amazing, it only costs £36,500! It’s the heaviest car here, though, weighing in at around 1,800kg.
So let’s check out the competition. Up first we have the classic Lamborghini Gallardo. It’s packing a 5-litre naturally-aspirated V10 that can produce 520hp and 510Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it’s the lightest car here, tipping the scales at 1,570kg.
Then finally we have the GT-R. Powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6, the GT-R is able to put down 480hp and 588Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels, and it’s a bit lighter than the MG4, coming in at 1,740kg.
So what do we think - can the MG4 really take down these classic supercars? There’s only one way to find out… LET’S RACE!

The MG is actually impressively low weight considering the batteries and rear seats.
The battery capacity is not that big, that's why. Chevy Bolt is much lighter, but a much "cheaper" light on equipment car.

That MG has got to be the ultimate sleeper car of the year.
It's not a "sleeper", it's carrying the MG brand to a massive comeback in Europe. It's a very successful car.
@@manthe3711 sleeper car doesn't mean its not successful, it means a regular looking car, even if its a minivan or 50 year old mecedes, but with a sport or even supercar performance.

What's the true range, lights heater, etc?
MG4 Xpower has some serious power there.
@@alastair9894probably around 200 (official range is 240 and they tend to lose 10-20 in the real world). Of course if you want more range, there's the extended range which is about 2 seconds slower but gets an 'official' range of 323 miles

Carwow's videos could reach new heights by including acceleration metrics like 100-200 km/h and 60-130 mph. These figures would add an exciting dimension to their content, enhancing the overall experience for enthusiasts and viewers alike.

That brake test really goes to show how much brakes, and probably more importantly ABS, have improved over the last 20 years. Because I don't think that MG has more grip than the other cars, at least not relative to weight, so it must be the ABS more able to utilise the full potential of the tyre to stop.

ABS hasn't changed a ton in the last 20 years because it can only physically do so much in a period of time, but older cars will always have softer rubber lines that will flex and increase stopping distance.
And if you see how squirrely the MG is, it's still not as stable as the other cars.
@@mediocreman2 but surely the tyres on those older cars are still modern and therefore there isn't much difference in tyre technology and overall softness?
Edit: ooh you mean rubber brake lines! That makes sense. Though I'd also still think that newer abs systems are able to more rapidly apply and release brakes to improve the braking performance. Though of course there is still a huge mechanical limitation there as you've said.
I love drag races like this. The races with hypercars are fun, but oddball lineups are exponentially cooler.

Yeah that Gallardo probably has some gearbox issues.
That and the convertible is like 200kg heavier than the normal version so it’s quite a lot slower, especially bc he has the top down:

@@VarunTomee-kr6nfit’s the whole experience, I would never take the hatchback. moreover this particular car is most certainly down on power, it’s around 400Hp, but even so it’s still more fun to me because of the engine sound. and platform characteristics, including weight balance, braking capabilities, steering feel plus tuning potential (suspension/exhaust), unique view from lower profile

They're shit 😂👍 wallow around like a boat, not really that fast and all the controls are shit. There's nothing good about the Gallardo other than the engine. I'd have a 911 GT3 or Ferrari 458 over anything by Lambo of the era. Not driven anything newer by Lambo than the Gallardo so can't comment about their newer stuff but modern 911's are sick.
Jimmy proved to us once again why the GTR is OP both in-game and in real life.

The MG comes with a 7 year warranty also. That means you could blast it everywhere and not worry about an engine blowing up. I like a good sports car like anyone else but I’ve got to say, that MG is some value for money.

The (relative) light-weight of the MG 4 XPower also amazes. You won't find many 400hp+ similar-sized petrol family cars which weigh less.

@@Mister-Brain-Washya, the single gear EV is rpm limited on the motor, and top speed limited, so M5 passes it eventually. And M5 looks a million times better.
They way GTR takes over is always fascinating. It doesn't feel the same with others. Well, only when it does take over.
