36 grand for a car that hits 60 in 3.6 seconds is crazy good value and it looks cool in that green colour too, I'd have one no question about it , great job by mg, they just need to stiffen suspension up a bit more 👌
Cheap for a reason. If you couldn't care less about quality, driving feel, materials or general design like having air vents which manage to keep you a similar temp all over and not having reflections in the screen then its a great way to tell your mates how fast it can go. If you actually want to enjoy driving I would suggest doing some test drives first. I took one out yesterday and while it accelerates well that really is its only good point. Take that out and its a horrible little plastic box to be in with a poor ride, ropey handling and a feeling that its very obviously had every corner cut to get the headline numbers and price. The "press car" seemed very well polished too but a poke around the others in the dealership wasn't so great with plenty of paint issues, one with the front carpet coming away from the side and another with half of the rear screen trim hanging off. They should have spent a bit more money on the brakes but overall it's a great addition to the line up. It will certainly upset some drivers of sporty German cars that normally refuse to be overtaken, they will have to stop looking at there rear view mirror and watch this car overtake them. 😂
These vehicles have absolutely no 100-200kmh performance, are heavy and look terrible. The Audi actually is one of the better looking EVs but still too big and heavy.
I have a standard range MG4 and could never justify the additional price just for the Trophy. After all my SE standard range is fractionally quicker to 60mph and it has all the range I need. I think that once again, MG has played an absolute blinder with the X Power (naff name) but you are essentially sitting in the same cabin, looking at the same dashboard whether it be SE, Trophy or X Power. If I actually felt the need for a bit more power, I'd probably rather look at a 12 month old Tesla M3 simply for the change of scenery. My MG4 SE SR has never felt lacking in power and even my wife's Zoe R135 feels quick due to the instant torque an EV offers. Whilst the MG4 has its issues, they really have farted in the faces of the established brands and proved you can make usable, fun EVs without ripping people off.
There are a couple reasons why I spent the extra. I have the Luxury Version (I think that is the EU equivalent to the Trophy version in the UK). The deciding factors for the Luxury Version for me was (1) 3-phase AC charging and (2) the heat pump. Both of them are not included in the Standard Version and at least (1) was a must-have feature for me. But if I had the capability to charge at home, I can see that I migth be perfectly happy with the Standard Version. In any case: I agree that MG has created a really interesting car. I absolutely love it.
It's crazy the augmentation of the car's power these days.. 10 or 15 years ago 430Hp was super cars or big german sedan power, it was nearly inaccessible for the common people! Hot hatch were around 200hp now with the Inoniq 5 it's 600hp !! What do you think about this all ?
It's mostly irrelevant. Interesting to know how maxing the start impacts the range. I vaguely recall someone testing a Taycan on track and after 20 odd laps the battery was out of charge.
£36,495 and 3.6 seconds 0-60. That is an absolute performance bargain The MG4 XPower is cheaper than many manufacturers entry level cars and blows them away You should do the drag race against the competition closest to the XPower in price - Born, ID3.3, Megane E-Tech, Niro EV. Those are its real competitors, not expensive Audis and Porsches
But it's still a turd on wheels. No one looking for a decent hot hatch will buy it. There's a lot more to a car than how it moves in a straight line, plus how it looks and the interior, tech and reliability. Even a base spec Golf GTI is ten times better than this thing.
@@mauricetoussaint7283 a Golf GTi costs thousands more and is a lot slower I guess if you prioritise going slowly and noisily in plusher surroundings, whilst spending a fortune on fuel, then the GTi is ideal 👍

Sort of proves that there is a lot more to producing a true performance car than shoving in some bigger electric motors. The Kia EV6 is apparently capable of hard track use but is of course a lot more expensive. I could imagine a lot of these MG4s end up in unexperienced hands and end up in hedges
Great. Now what is the real world range? Or cost to the environment in manufacturing them? And cost to the environment in disposing of/recycling them? And what about the energy used to power them? Edit: Oh, I forgot the human cost in mining for cobalt in the Congo. Dangerous working conditions, low life expectancy, child slavery. I dunno, sounds kina racist to me. (Tut, not that kind of black person - they're fair game! #blm, etc.) Anyway, bottom line is, people who don't actually like cars (or black African children it seems) buy these things.

Imagine how embarrassing it will be for many arrogant rich people driving expensive ICE vehicles when an ordinary electric family car humiliates them in daily traffic...! It will be fun... MG4 is changing the game...The only drawback is that the MG4 is not available in all European countries. Only this saves the management of Volkswagen from a very big humiliation...
You guys don't sound American, but ranking cars based on quarter-mile times means you must be. British people know that cars have to make turns too! Next time, do this right and put them around a track.

Yup. I have been keeping an eye on the NIO ET5. And saw it and sat in it at Goodwood. It's perfect. Great external design. Mix of excellent dual screens (responsive main touch screen plus binacle display) inside plus a few nicely done tactile controls. And swappable battery of which the 150kWh offers 500 miles range. But in the UK design counts and like the MG4 it gets all angles right. Rear of ET5 looks like a Porsche. German and Japanese companies are all over the place with confused design language and little passion.
Thank you for giving tribute to the Smart ForTwo electric in a short screenshot but it’s been entirely overlooked because of its two seats and short range. It’s a car that can work on many single or couple households and can now be bought from as little as £8k! Even as second car in a family household I think it makes sense.
0.3 secs "is quite a bit quicker" Dont be silly. In the F1 world it might be, but not in the real world it isn't. He beat him convincingly - by 1/2 a car!!!!!! What planet are you guys on? Then by a 1/4 of a car and 0.2 secs. There's sod all in it. At least it has an LFP battery so the effective range if the WLTP minus 15%, so 275. Shame, coz I can easily get 700 at 75mph in my Mazda 2 skyactiv D from 44li of oil. That is cheaper per mile than an EV on public charging by a considerable margin. It only cost 15,000. CO2 is only 89gm/Km and NOX is Euro 6 compliant. No increasingly expensive battery materials. An EV will never be cost effective versus highly efficient, small capacity, turbo diesels.
Till MG fix the vibration that they tried to fix with rubber dampeners. I cannot recommend if you intent on going over 100kmh. come on MG you know theres a fault. And refuse to fix or compensate customers.

@@ThrottleBody if you want a luxurious experience between the 2, the RS3 is the better option. By the way, the MG is only good on straight line performance. The RS3 matches the Model S Plaid on the nurburgring proving EV performance is not all that impressive.
If you have the money, the RS3 is the better car, unless you're not willing to spend, then yes the MG makes sense
@@sillimilli3802 tbh if I want a luxurious car I’m buying a luxury car, not an what is essentially a 25k audi a3 inside. Furthermore, it is not a match for the Tesla at all…it’s 15 seconds slower around the Nurburgring 😂 if you are really bothered about corners there are plenty of better hot hatches out there than the rs3; the rs3 is more of a straight line/point and shoot car. The rs3 only makes any sort of sense if you go for a used last generation one. The engine is the only real thing that stands out in an rs3 to me.
@@ThrottleBody audi is a luxury brand, MG is not.
No one drives in straight line all day long, there twists and turns on roads, hothatches will out perform this MG in those instances.
And please don't lie, you are talking about the Plaid with the Track Package, the regular plaid is slower than the RS3
MG4 drag race faster than E-tron GT, what is going on? A family hatchback EV with 4WD, 429bhp, looks ok and drives well, 7 years warranty for £36,495. This is unreal....

I cant believe the love for the looks of this car.
Granted the front end is decent but the back looks like it belongs to a totally different car, its horrific
The inside is cheap as hell as well with the materials being low grade
36 grand for a car that hits 60 in 3.6 seconds is crazy good value and it looks cool in that green colour too, I'd have one no question about it , great job by mg, they just need to stiffen suspension up a bit more 👌
In 2 years it will be 18 grand, will the Audi be worth it as a used buy though? However, I would choose the MG4.
And better brakes 😁
I'm sure they will put some glue on them before selling them but it did make me wonder how much else was being covered up under there.

I'm with MG❤️
That little sportscar of theirs is going to be something :)
Mg cyBERSTER
YESS! I always knew the Chinese are better! 🙃
the MG is on Turanza 005 tyres, these are still not a performance tyres. I'd bet swapping it to the same tyres as the Audi would further improve it.
Not a fair comparison - it's well known that red cars are slower.
Leclerc to Red Bull?
Dear Audi, this is ‚Vorsprung dank Technik‘ to be beaten by a product costing 1/3😂 Arrogance comes before the fall…
What an embarrassment for Audi, no wonder why Porsche declined LMAO
Omg audi mercedes bwm etc need to wake up
They should have spent a bit more money on the brakes but overall it's a great addition to the line up. It will certainly upset some drivers of sporty German cars that normally refuse to be overtaken, they will have to stop looking at there rear view mirror and watch this car overtake them. 😂
We aren’t worried about this slow garbage that runs out of puff on a roll . Capped to 124 mph most hot hatches are mapped these days anyways .
Yep on the back of a tow truck.

These vehicles have absolutely no 100-200kmh performance, are heavy and look terrible. The Audi actually is one of the better looking EVs but still too big and heavy.
In your face, Audi 😂😂
How has the European motor industry allowed this to happen? Wake up guys!!
Cheap Chinese car have defeated expensive German car ?! What a cruel reality.😂
X Power is an old MG performance brand name from the days when it was still British. I had an MG XT-T 260 V8 with X-power exhaust system.
Very impressive, time to have a look at the MG 😊
It's crazy the augmentation of the car's power these days.. 10 or 15 years ago 430Hp was super cars or big german sedan power, it was nearly inaccessible for the common people! Hot hatch were around 200hp now with the Inoniq 5 it's 600hp !! What do you think about this all ?
Its crazy isn't. In fact even the basic MG4s have 170 and 200hp! Tbf these cars are heavier than the old hit hatches and such
It's mostly irrelevant. Interesting to know how maxing the start impacts the range. I vaguely recall someone testing a Taycan on track and after 20 odd laps the battery was out of charge.
I think a lot of people with not a lot of car control are going to have very fast cars capable of 0-60 in sub 4 seconds. That worries me. A lot!
@@Buck3366 agree with that
One word. Weight
£36,495 and 3.6 seconds 0-60. That is an absolute performance bargain
The MG4 XPower is cheaper than many manufacturers entry level cars and blows them away
You should do the drag race against the competition closest to the XPower in price - Born, ID3.3, Megane E-Tech, Niro EV.
@@mauricetoussaint7283 a Golf GTi costs thousands more and is a lot slower
I guess if you prioritise going slowly and noisily in plusher surroundings, whilst spending a fortune on fuel, then the GTi is ideal 👍

SAIC will make MG cool again with the cyberster release
So basically, if MG (SAIC) decided to make a car costing as much as Gerry car, it would probably wipe them off the face of the earth.
BTW Audi is negotiating with SAIC to use their modular platform for their next gen EVs
You needn't have assumed the Audi braked better than the MG. Test it!
Sort of proves that there is a lot more to producing a true performance car than shoving in some bigger electric motors. The Kia EV6 is apparently capable of hard track use but is of course a lot more expensive. I could imagine a lot of these MG4s end up in unexperienced hands and end up in hedges
Sorry it costs how much?!?!?! Flipping Volvo XE30 and the Jeep Avenger small cars cost FROM that much almost!
MG is a great successes in Europe! On the side of Volvo/Polstar thei sell good cars! VW needs to catch up here, or they will extinct!
Great.
Now what is the real world range?
Or cost to the environment in manufacturing them?
And cost to the environment in disposing of/recycling them?
And what about the energy used to power them?

Oh, I forgot the human cost in mining for cobalt in the Congo.
Dangerous working conditions, low life expectancy, child slavery.

Wow! Basically MG4 XPower is family hatchback and significantly more affordable vehicle.
No wonder the rumor is out that Audi is buying an EV platform from SAIC
Most drivers want a rapib point and squirt car allowing rapid overtakes safely. MG has supplied the solution.
My Tesla model 3 Long range 2019 with 80,000 is quicker than an Audi etron GT. 😉
Nothing finer than dumping a 90 grand sports car at the lights in your 1.3 L fiesta. Or whatever the modern equivalent is let’s say an MG4 AWD

A real game changer for over priced EV cars ,MG and the Chinese cars heading to the UK are really going to shake up the market ,the next generation after this car which is good is going to be every bit as good as the german opposition
