TRD now: hehe lol aero package on the camry.
The TRD Camry is a V6 SE with an aero pack at the same price point of a 4 cylinder XSE. It’s a decent alternative to having to spend Avalon money to get a V6 in a Camry
It's not just an aero package there are lowered and stiffer shocks there is a new free flowing exhaust there are internal braces under hood, behind the back seat

Well in 1965 when the mustang came it out broke virtually every sales record, so obviously it had everything it needed. They probably sold more Mustangs that year than Toyotas in general
Mustang didn't get independent rear suspension until 2014 (2015 model year) so 7 years ago lol
@@everythingman987 there's a reason for that. The 8.8 rear end is cheap and reliable. Why replace something when you can squeeze every last penny from it? This isn't a diss at Toyota or Ford, it's just a very good business decision. Ford didn't feel the need to replace the 8.8 yet to make more sales. Plus they could market it as just like the 60s stang. Toyota may have felt that using more technologically advanced stuff would endear them to people who may be hesitant to buy a Japanese car. Spending a bit more money to increase your market share internationally is also a good business decision.
I love how inevitable it is to talk about the gas crisis since it was the reason for what happened to certain vehicles to a degree

A lesser known branch of TRD was TRD Australia which released a supercharged V6 Camry called the TRD Aurion (only 537 made). I have the engine swapped in my Camry.

Sadly, I had a TRD car tghat we named "the TuRD" for years. It had a High Efficiency Racing Performance Exhaust System, or HERPES.
At 11:47 you showed a South African Corolla 1800 TRD Liftback, which was based on the 1.8 SE. (The picture was probalby taken during the Toyota 1000 Desert race, held in Botswana) Those Corolla TRD's are very collectible now!
The yellow registration plates were used in South Africa during the good old 80's and early 90's, and the "T" at the end was for the province "Transvaal", which is now called Gauteng. (Gauteng registered cars's 'plates ends with GP)

@@alonzolopez9649 FWD and V8? The worst combination possibly ever made, those Impalas were in fact the worst Chevys ever made. In 06' they were know for transmission failures and blown heads, thats definitely not a good example.
I just got back from a 500 mile dirt biking trip in baja and we rode on quite a few of the Baja 1000 roads and I find it crazy how fast they go! They are bumpy, rocky, and all around crazy!

I worked for Toyota R&D as a vehicle performance engineer at the Toyota proving grounds last summer and got to work with some of the guys at TRD and they definitely have the best mentality and motivation to make these cars as best as they can. Sucks that sometimes the high up departments cut funding and development for some great projects.

I had a good friend that had a MR2 he converted to the trd spec. Full wide body, full built motor pushed out a touch over 700 hp. Car was near impossible to drive but damn was it cool

Come to think of it, I really do believe that, that whole switcheroonie/plot-twist thing was really the genesis of the Skyline/GT-R vs Supra rivalry. A lot of the tech found in the 2000GT got carried over to the Supra, in hind sight. Had Nissan not bought Prince...Oh man, the possibilities. Maybe, in an alternate timeline, the 2 models are switched between the brands, Nissan with a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive halo car (that's not the Fairlady), and Toyota, with a V6 All-Wheel-Drive halo car. Idk.
