    I have watched several of these Cluster Videos, might I suggest turning the engine on, placing the truck in Drive - Low Gear, then shut the engine off with Gear Selector down, give yourself more room to work.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 года назад

      The gear selector wasn’t really in the way. The main problem was the glass/plastic and the cluster bezel not coming all the way out because it is attached to the rubber that goes around the steering the column. If I could have gotten that bezel piece all of the way out I would have had plenty of room.

    What happens if you buy a used cluster off ebay and don't have it programmed to your VIN?

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Год назад +1

      It won’t be able to display any of the data from your truck’s computer system and sense all gauge data is transmitted electronically in modern vehicles, it may completely prevent the cluster from working at all.

    • @SouthpawGarage

      There is an option in the display’s settings to turn the speed limit indicator on or off. I did notice that the speed limit indicator does not always register a road’s speed. It works best on larger roads, but is hit and miss on smaller ones, as far as even displaying a speed at all. I actually turned it off about week or so later because I just didn’t really feel like I got any kind of benefit out of having it on.

      The cluster was $1000. They do not require the old one to be sent back so I kept it for now. I may try to sell it on eBay or something later to try and make back some of the cost. When you place the order with the company (link in video description), you provide them with your VIN and they program it for your vehicle before shipping it to you.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 года назад +1

      I bought it from infotainment.com. There is a link in the video description. I would assume the WT would work with it. It looks like the WT has the same gauge cluster as the other trim levels so it should just be plug and play. You can always email the infotainment.com support and ask just to be sure. I’m not sure what you mean by “flash it” but I personally didn’t have to do anything other than provide my truck info to the company when I ordered it. They programmed the gauge cluster for my truck’s specific VIN so all I had to do was plug it in when I got it.

      If your truck is the refreshed model with the new interior, this example will not work. The refreshed interior has an entirely new gauge cluster system with different programming. If your truck is a 2022 Silverado LTD, it’s possible it will work as the LTDs keep the previous interior and design, but I would recommend doing some research specifically for your year model. My video is mostly for 2019-2021 models. I can’t really speak for models after 2021.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  6 месяцев назад +1

      It’s going to be very difficult to find a dealership that will program an aftermarket cluster for you. Most dealerships will pretty much refuse to hook anything up to the computer that is not a GM approved part. GM dealerships have even refused to reprogram official GM clusters that people have bought online to swap into their vehicles. I got lucky and was able to purchase my gauge cluster from a company that does all of the programming themselves. Your best bet is going to be looking online for 3rd party companies that offer automotive programming services.

      No. When buying a new gauge cluster it has to be programmed to your vehicles VIN. Any company that you buy a new one from should program it before shipping. I bought a 2019 2500HD work truck. The inside is basic. You have like a rectangle screen while mine has a square or portrait looking screen. Would buying an upgraded cluster or upgraded steering wheel with the radio buttons work or it wouldn't be compatible?

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 года назад +1

      The upgraded gauge cluster doesn’t work with the steering wheel in the Work Truck trim. You would have to upgrade your steering wheel to one that has the steering wheel controls on both sides and make sure they are wired up properly so the controls work. I don’t know anything about upgrading the steering wheels, though so I can’t really make a recommendation on whether or not you should do it or if the upgraded steering wheel would even work.

    is it possible to install 22 digital clusters on tahoe 2021 boring cluster

      I’m not sure. It’s hard to tell if the new gauge clusters are the same shape as the 2019-2021 versions. I also don’t have any way to know if the wire harness is the same or if GM changed it which would make it incompatible with previous year models.

    • @harveylemmer9930
      @harveylemmer9930 Год назад

      Sadly it isn’t (gm tech here), due to the 2022 using a Google software vs the 2021 that uses gm’s own proprietary system

      @@harveylemmer9930 quick question, I got a denali cluster and was planning to send it to WAMs but they no longer program used clusters. As it was already programmed for a silverado, could I just take it to the dealer and have them program it to my Vin (the only difference?)

      @@harveylemmer9930 Being a GM Tech, do you know if a 2020 SIlverado HD Hood will fit on a 2019 Silverado 1500? I love the look of the HD hood and would like to verify fitment before investing in one.

    Does the new cluster get programmed to the current mileage from the old cluster?

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 года назад +1

      When ordering the cluster, you will need to provide the company with your VIN so they can program the cluster for your vehicle’s onboard computer system. That will allow the cluster to pull over your mileage. You will also want to add a note in your order telling the company what your engine hours are if you don’t want those to show up as zero when you first install the new cluster.
      Your fuel economy calculator will be reset, but that’s not a big deal. I was mainly upset about losing my fuel economy calculations because I had gotten my truck up to 30mpg on the way back from vacation last year so I always felt good seeing that number listed for my max fuel economy. Lol

      And just to be clear, you don’t completely lose the MPG estimator. It just starts over from scratch when you switch the gauge cluster.

    Does this upgrade give you the HUD?

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 года назад

      No. This is the gauge cluster only. There is no place on a Silverado for a HUD screen to be added if it doesn’t already have it from the factory. To add OEM HUD, you would either have to cut a hole in the top of your dash for the display or completely replace the entire top of your dash with a dash that came out of a truck with HUD. You would also have to add the HUD switches to the left of the steering column which would include more cutting or replacing of parts.
      To get HUD without having to cut or replace your entire dash, you will have to look at aftermarket options that are made to sit on top of the dash you already have.

      No, separate upgrade. Requires some cutting on the interior. Very $$$$$

      With recording the video it took about 2 hours. Probably could do it in about half the time or even less if I wasn’t doing the video and explaining it along the way.
      Really the longest part was taking the screws out of the bottom of the cluster frame/cover piece because they aren’t the easiest to get to.
