Leather without venting in it sucks. I never knew how nice they really worked till I got my new car with them in it.. it keeps me nice and cool and no sweaty ass on hot days.. lol..

I used to do upholstery for classic and modern cars, this is an excellent video, and the right way to do the job everything from remove to install and testing. Incredibly comprehensive and I'd want to do this myself on my next set of seats!
Scott Schapiro how do you like them? I want to put this in my truck but I'd like to see some reviews first. Most interested in the cooling. Is it cool enough?
I only installed the kit in my driver's seat and I could not be happier. I live in south Florida and drive a convertible and I have found the cooling to be very effective and noticable even when the rest of my body might be getting too hot from having the top down. It also starts working very quickly. I have had a couple of other TED coolers that used water as the cooling medium and this works better and faster. I have not had a chance to test out the heating function yet, but I have every reason to believe it will work as well. Keep in mind that Gentherm is an OEM supplier and they use these components in many production vehicles, so this is the real deal.

Wish I could have this guy do my install personally, it’s hard to find this kind of work ethic now a days. I have an LT 1500 with cloth seats, I will get this system in the next six months for sure
I have been installing road wire, and katzkin kits for 13yrs now I will let everyone know this is not something you should tackle unless you have good knowledge of how electronics in your vehicle work. I have seen people tap into wires they should not and burning out the bcm (body control module) if you do that your vehicle is not going any where and a new bcm is not cheap! I am the only one in my company who installs these and you did a great job. I often add the switches on the dash where the factory heaters go but have to add them at an angle to fit right. I do like the spot inside the console but I am unsure of customers would like that spot. Also on the side of the seat is a typical spot people place them. I tend to always add them on the center console if it is possible. Either way awesome work an I enjoyed the video.
I've seen a lot of how to videos, this is one of the best. Guy knows exactly what he is talking about and doesn't tell you anything you don't need to know.
When putting the silicone on.. be careful not to overdue it. If you do to much, you will clog the pad vents, potentially leaving dead spots. If you want a Seal.. make the hole slightly smaller ( 1/8-1/4 lip). With the tube being longer (proud of the cushion) it will always be pushed against the pad, so lots of silicone (or none) is necessary.
I did high end custom car audio, video, and fabrication for almost 20 years and I gotta say - I love to watch you work. The details you DON'T see are what matter!
So true! I bought a '99 2 door Tahoe last year. Battery was dying every couple of days. There was an aftermarket Alpine HU installed, so I decided to check over the installation. Previous owner skipped spending a few bucks on a plug and play harness and butchered the whole thing together with twisted wires and electrical tape. Had the radio wired to constant power. The truck was rough with other questionable wiring I just sold it.
I seriously hope you guys are located in Southern California you would definitely earn my business just by the sheer fact you don’t mess anything up. If I do this or give this to an upholstery shop guaranteed they’ll mess it up. Looks like I can only trust you guys.

Just stumbled across this video, highly impressed with everything about it. Amazingly informative, great product, and one of the cleanest aftermarket installs I have seen.
I have done hundreds of these installs the best place to grab ignition in this vehicle is the power outlet under the consul it is ignition a lot safer than digging in the wiring harness in the ignition system there also should be a main feed coming from the battery to the fuse box that would be where you would grab your constant power Factory ground is the best place to grab it
Interesting to see the aftermarket application of this type of system using thermopeltic devices, as I sit here in my office and disassemble/reverse engineer the OEM system on a Sierra Denali. Usually thermopeltic devices pale in comparison to actual compressor/freon based cooling, but the application and change in temp is sufficient for seating. Certainly much easier then ducting the HVAC system to the seats through additional blowers (though this is something I will still play around with). Quite good video work, capturing the essentials, great presentation and minimal blaugh. I must also say, I do believe this is the first time I ever heard a self tapping screw called a stinger screw. Great work mate!
SALCON Thanks! You are correct, the TED system is much more manageable for this kind of application compared to other methods! We have tested many other styles throughout the years and none have come close. We appreciate the comment!
Started watching this thinking it would be a waste of time - but wow, great job and im amazed at the after market support for leather seats alone you provide compared to australia! Top job!

So glad I stumbled onto this vid. I dont really want ventilated but just finding a leather seat cover company that doesn't play games like Kkatzkin (selling through installers only) is great!
While this is an excellent upgrade, it left me wondering if purchasing OEM ventilated cushions and colling / heating system itself would save a lot of labour (and thus cost).
Probably not if you’re doing this all by yourself, seeing as how most cars with heated ventilated and cooled seats are newer, therefore making it expensive to get the OEM seats easily. Plus this system would allow you to add a feature to a car that may have never had it
"COULD YOU LIFT YOUR ARM PLEASE...I NEED TO CHANGE THE HEAT SETTING ".....(5MINS LATER) "I NEED TO ADJUST THE SETTINGS AGAIN, COULD YOU EXCUSE YOUR ARM OFF OF THE REST AGAIN." THAT'S THE PERFECT AREA TO PUT THAT.
I love how he just casually says "the peltier effect" like it's a natural normal thing that most common people understand. Knowing and understanding are 2 completely different things.
This may seem to be a strange question but why is it only leather seats that get the heating and cooling treatment? Wouldn't cooling or heating cloth seats be a simple and easy upgrade for car manufacturers and be even more efficient since they don't have to compete with the density of the leather?
Thanks for sharing the processes and information, not a lot of people can deliver information and perfectness at the same time. probably never going to do such a project but to see the knowledge is always great.
+jason Unfortunately no, that would not make it any easier to install. Most seat heaters are designed to lay on top of the seat foam and heat with the seat without any air movement where as on theses units, both the heated and cooled air is blown through the upholstery.
I really I appreciate your work my friend. I think it's not only for the feature but I am the guy which take more pleasure on things I do myself. Good idea
Was that seat equipped with a side airbag? If so is there special care needed to replace the foam and cover properly so it can deploy properly if needed?
+Subgunman Yes this truck had side airbags and our upholstery kit for this pattern is compatible with the factory airbag system. Our upholstery is designed to replace only the factory upholstery not the foam. You will need to re-use the factory foam which properly holds the airbag system in place.
I worked as an upholstery person for 2 years helping my friend with his business and my fingers bled every day. Between staples poking me and the foam and fabric drying my hands out, these jobs are not for the average person.
This install does not make much sense for total cabin climate control. If you turn on seat coolers, you also turn on rear passenger foot heat, with the placement of the exhaust port on the seat. Without looking into it, I bet there is a way to vent the A/C to the seats. Or port the heat exhaust outside...
+michael hunter Unfortunately no. There has to be a layer of high-flow foam along with perforation in the upholstery in order for the air flow of these units to work properly. I would check out our website configurator to see what options we offer for doing a cloth-to-leather conversion for your vehicle. If you are interested in our product please feel free to give us a call at 1-866-639-7328 www.leatherseats.com/shop/leather-interior-kits.html?___store=default
i'll purchasing one of these in the future for sure! i like cloth seats personally, so i can do without heated seats, but they are nice, but cooled seats would be amazing in the summer. Long road trips are way less enjoyable with a sweaty back and ass.
Well if you don't care about it that's one thing, but to get this feature it's usually only available in higher trim levels which costs thousands of dollars.
Ryan Nelson but they have proper air con or heat on them and if you have old car just buy one which have that also old . The one here produce heat to get cold where heat will blow in to your car it’s pointless
+Vaios Kaliakoudas These are universal units that work with 90% of vehicle seats out there. You will need to verify that your seats meet the requirements set in this video. Feel free to send us an email to sales@leatherseats.com with your year, make, and model. Our sales team can see if we have verified the installation of these units in your vehicle yet.
Mercedes units have a refrigerant, some even use circulated water and blown air through a small radiator but this system uses a similar theory as a fridge but passively, it works on the peltie effect
+Alberto Velez If you do not want to install these units yourself we can still ship you the units and/or our upholstery kit and you can have a local automotive upholstery shop install them for you.
It all depends on the end user. I'm not a master mechanic or upholstery technician by any stretch, but after watching this video I'd try the install myself. I definitely need more razor blades lol.
+Vasiliy Nechepurenko Once the seat upholstery is installed, the pads that you are sitting on completely blend into the seat foam. That is why we cut out part of the seat foam, so the pads would mount flush.
My god what a great video. Quality and editing and the knowledge and installation!! I don’t even know how this video ended up in my feed but I enjoyed every second of it and now want heated seats 😂
+Sean A Glad you liked the video! Check out the link to our website: www.leatherseats.com/shop/seat-comfort.html The units in this video both heat as well as cool the seats. We also have stand alone heaters as well. If you have any questions feel free to email us at sales@leatherseats.com.
Helpful, I'm currently reupholstering Eos seats right now. What we thought was a cigarette burn turned out to be the factory heated seats had caught fire at some point. The burn marks followed the outline of the heat pads. Was not noticeable on the outer cover. Just ordered the new pads. Thanks for the video :-).
This is awesome, this is perfect for that older car that was just never offered to have ventilated seats. I’ve been wanting something like this for all my cars, but this is the first kit to seem to be worth a damn. Havent ordered (yet) so cant say for sure
I would consider buying this if A) they provided that cutting template for the switch with the unit. B) They had a detailed video of installing the wiring safely.
WILSON! Thank you for the feedback. To answer your first consideration, we do include cutting templates for the switch hole, distribution pad outline, exhaust/intake bezel hole, and the TED unit hole with every unit. As far as the wiring, every vehicle will be different and self-installation does require at least some experience with vehicle wiring. We do not provide vehicle specific instructions. This is considered an advanced do-it-yourself process and we would not suggest anyone tackling it if they were not familiar or comfortable wiring 12 volt applications. At the end of this video (20:17) Eric does give a good overview of the wiring process but if you have any questions please feel free to give us a call at 1-866-639-7328 or email us at sales@leatherseats.com.
MonoFrio Thanks! The tricky thing about showing the wiring is that it will vary from vehicle to vehicle and should really only be done by someone who has experience wiring with 12V automotive systems. If you have any questions about the process feel free to email sales@leatherseats.com or call us a 1-866-639-7328 and we will do what we can to help you out!
As I was thinking how elaborate and difficult this installation is, now imagine installing heating/ventilated seats with _massage_ options. Yep, I’ll stick with the OEM packages.
This is an amazing tutorial video and review of your product. I just ordered a new seat foam for my 14 year old truck, and node I think I'll be getting this kit from y'all. Amazing job well done.

This looks like insane amount of work. Luckily I'll never have to do this :). So professional.
its so nice to have a husband like him... someone who knows how to fix or modify things
@ angel_dust calm your t*ts.
literally
It's pretty nice to learn how to do stuff as well
i'll purchasing one of these in the future for sure! i like cloth seats personally, so i can do without heated seats, but they are nice, but cooled seats would be amazing in the summer. Long road trips are way less enjoyable with a sweaty back and ass.
ХОРОШАЯ РАБОТА, ЕСТЬ НА ЧТО ПОСМОТРЕТЬ И ПОУЧИТЬСЯ .
+Геннадий Дегтярев Thanks! We appreciate the compliment!
This was extremely thorough! Great video.
This is wayyy too much hassle man
Ponyboy 😂😂😂😂I was thinking the same thing like “it’s a bit much just to make some air blow under your ass”
It's well worth to go through the hassle of installing this system when you live in south Florida.
I live in socal with a car with no AC, i'd rather live with the swamp ass
Truly great and in depth presentation. All bases covered in this leaving no questions unanswered.
Do you have any units like this one for every make, model, year?
+Vaios Kaliakoudas These are universal units that work with 90% of vehicle seats out there. You will need to verify that your seats meet the requirements set in this video. Feel free to send us an email to sales@leatherseats.com with your year, make, and model. Our sales team can see if we have verified the installation of these units in your vehicle yet.
so my 83 RX 7 can have heated and cooled seats! (in a couple months.....)
Vinny cold 🎂 and warm 🍕 here we come right??
Cool seats, hot installer. Would happily sit on both.
Don't laugh at me but i always thought there was some kind of coolant system that drove it :
(
Yup it's called blinker fluid 😂
@@hereb4theend my car leaks exhaust fluid..
@@punker4Real adding maple syrup to your next fuel refill will fix that ⛽😂😜
Some cars actually do use refrigerant on the cooled seats. Most are just ventilated, though.
Mercedes units have a refrigerant, some even use circulated water and blown air through a small radiator but this system uses a similar theory as a fridge but passively, it works on the peltie effect
Whoa!! It’s RYAN REYNOLDS twin!! Nice tutorial btw 👍🏼
For a car owner looking to upgrade it is not practical to do it yourself
+Alberto Velez If you do not want to install these units yourself we can still ship you the units and/or our upholstery kit and you can have a local automotive upholstery shop install them for you.
It all depends on the end user. I'm not a master mechanic or upholstery technician by any stretch, but after watching this video I'd try the install myself.
I definitely need more razor blades lol.
What a darn job! Definitively this has to be done by a pro. Nice video!
Rashid Breedy Most of our customers do take it to a local shop for installation for sure. Thanks!
and u dont feel those tubes? how is that possible?
Bro can I just pay you extra for doing it for me?
Helpful, I'm currently reupholstering Eos seats right now. What we thought was a cigarette burn turned out to be the factory heated seats had caught fire at some point. The burn marks followed the outline of the heat pads. Was not noticeable on the outer cover. Just ordered the new pads. Thanks for the video :-).
Sondra White Whoa, sounds like a bad deal! Glad you were able to track it down and get the heaters replaced. Thanks for watching!
You'd probably sweat more out doing this than you ever would sitting in your truck.
Bruno TaTa - right that is a ton of work!
That is some great workmanship
Haridev V Thanks!
Shut Up and Take My Money!!
I'd love to see a cooling demo with a thermal camera. I'm sure some youtuber would love to do a collab on this idea if you don't have a thermal camera
You do spotless work, a real craftsman. Very impressed
+bob m Thanks!
very nice ...saved $8,000.00... definately worth the effort
Now you are a PRO!!! Great job!!
TarekRadi Thank you so much for watching! We appreciate it!
Wiring the fuse box would have been nice to see. Great information
Very meticulous installation process👍
As I was thinking how elaborate and difficult this installation is, now imagine installing heating/ventilated seats with _massage_ options. Yep, I’ll stick with the OEM packages.
This is an amazing tutorial video and review of your product. I just ordered a new seat foam for my 14 year old truck, and node I think I'll be getting this kit from y'all. Amazing job well done.
ELK Motorsports Thanks! Glad you like it! Feel free to email us at sales@leatherseats.com or give us a call at 1-866-639-7328 with any questions or to start an order.
Word up!!! Awesome job, very professionally done!!!👍👍💯👏
Martin Kelly Thanks!
This is what I call a diy video made right. Liked and subscribed. Great video.
+Theron Theron Thanks! Welcome to our channel!
Damn, I need this for my 2001 Lexus GS. If or when I do ever buy it, I'll have to have in upholstery shop put on fresh new Black perforated leather/pleather covers....these look more close to OEM than what I find on Google or eBay. Great vid.
