Attention ! For begginers or for more precise work , just remove your old seats upholstery and unsew everything into pieces, so then you will have a completely precise pattern for your car seats. Then at the pattern you can design custom upholstery designs , and then you just have a little more job because it's custom design but if you want to change just fabric of seats this way it's a lot easier.
Cato, great to see you here,do miss you though with the Martin bros. Always loved your fantastic interiors, outstanding. And thank you for doing this ,quite timely fo me as i,m restoring a triumph spitfire. I,m sure your tutelage will be well recieved good luck to you ,friend
What I appreciated most is that am in sierra leone feeling like am right in USA learning upholstery. Thank you guys am dearly developing with you a spectacular skill.
Awesome work guys! Just started tinkering with a sewing machine. I want to learn how to do this stuff so that I can reupholster my dream car, that after waiting over 40 years I finally acquired last year! Need to schedule taking your next class for sure!
I have been making my own seat covers for my motorcycle a few times now and it's basically just basic pleats and connections. Really would like to try making one for my car. Learned a lot of tricks from this video! Great job!
I do my own upholstery my mother was a Seamstress and her old machines were used a little improperly but they they worked until I could afford the proper machine seeing people learn this trade is fantastic! I like restoring classic Cars have learned a lot from You Tube channels too! Keep Learning!
Omg, it's the first time I ask you tube a question and I find exactly what I am looking for on the first title I hit. You guys are awesome. I am from the UK and wish that I could work in a place like yours. You have a laugh but are serious about your work and excellent at it. Well done at the sewing as well as corners are never easy especially when it's leather and foam. 😊
Been in the upholstery business 46 years. Cato does great work! Watched a lot on Iron Resurrection. I would like to see a how to video on leather wrapping and stitching a steering wheel. .
Just bought a Lotus Europa, and need to reupholster the seats. This is so helpful - even if I buy the covers the assembly tuition is going to be so handy to refer to.
i did upholstery at a boat factory, then did custom boat upholstery. hard part is to learn to stitch straight. now i learned how to build a shoe/boot from scratch with 360 welts. i messed up a lot of shoes and boots before i made something worth wearing. glad i used cheap leathers. humans have the fastest muscle memory, we learn fast.
Super video the truth is very good I work with my dad on upholstery and the truth is that at first I almost didn't like it but I have taken an interest in learning and I already know how to use the sewing machine but I still feel that I lack it, I think that sewing has its secrets
I wish could really meet your class to get the know-how... Unfortunately I'm living in Germany 😢 So only via video material I can try to get it into my head and hands 😅
Great thanks. What’s that stunning Crème De Menthe colour on that car in the background? Got a paint code for that? Looks like the Bugatti colour I have been searching for to use on my classic mini van. Would love more info on that paint? Thanks!
Have you ever r covered a classic car beach seat that has several "sections/channels". I am going to be doing my FIRST ONE!" using leather, batting, and cording.Wouldlove to see a video showing the steps. The seat form is WOOD!
Good job on the seat cover and awesome video! Very informative. What size thread do you sew the covers with? I noticed your machine was a Consew, what needle size do you use? I have made vinyl & leather purses & bags and my son & I are going to have a go with seat covers for a 1930 Ford. I would love to take one of your classes!
Great job Solomon! Yes! definitely like the how to, you do the work instruction video, also like any, how do you do that vidio's? Trans build, injector size and balance build, dash update and replacement, " Dakota Digital ". 9" Detroit lockers... Thanks for sharing 👍. ✌🏻🔑 🙋♂️ 🌧 🇨🇦 👨🦽 😎.
Does your shop reupholster seats for a 1979 Lincoln Mark V? I’m from New Mexico 87537. I own one. The Cartier edition and I feel Lincoln should’ve made a cream 2 tone velour with dark red/burgundy leather inserts on the seats.
Hey that's my trade Auto upholstery that's funny school for more upholsters there's not enough work in this trade I started learning in the 1980s when I was a younger.
The brown template or cardboard you’re using in the beginning…. What is that used for? I see after you take it away I see small lines on your material. Is this for reference
Good morning! I really like how you explain. Tell me, please, when you have time, what is the name of the sponge from which you made the chair and the machine with which you made the channel in the foam. Thank you very much!! Keep up the good work gentlemen!!
I’m in the process of planning on making a custom bomber style bucket seat for my gokart, but struggling how i would fasten the cushion to the bomber seat. Any idea how i would go about that? I was thinking of putting a steel plate with welded on nuts on the wood backing, (hides the stapling as well), then bolting that to my bomber seat. Would that work?
Watching this to learn for attempting my own seat covers for a 77 wagoneer. But had to comment and say isn’t that a Hodson Motorsports shirt??? I have the Jeep wagons version 😅
Well good luck on the wagoner. It’s actually my shirt design. I’m good friends with Riley at Hodson Motors and he actually sells my merch & he took inspiration to make his own
Just foam and mdf-board? Usually it sits on a frame with springs or elastic straps. This will be uncomfortable. Also weird to see you glue down the leather/vinyl to the foam underneath. Will that not put a lot of stress on the underlying foam when you sit on it. That is why you usually have scrim with fabric backing and also sometimes Dacron to allow the cover to move independently.
Attention !

That long arm industrial sewing machine and extended table is the tricky part.

This is AWESOME! Hope I can find a class like this in the Los Angeles area, I’m working on a 65’ Riviera (and maybe a career change 😆)
starting at 8:15. what is the little piece of fabric under the needle at the beginning and added to the end of the stitch line?
its just to help not reset the stitch
@@FordEra so it’s essentially makes it as if your sewing a continuous line of stitching?

my biggest issue is with restoration of old seats.. matching foam density and springiness.. I keep ending up with duvets as the foam settles.
