    The Righteous Brothers were a singing duo, not biological brothers. From a VOA News interview with Bobby Hatfield: "We were working in a club in Southern California when we first started out," he said. "We used to get quite a few black Marines coming down from this Marine base, El Toro. Bill and I started doing more and more duets together. After one duet, one of the guys yelled out, 'That's righteous, brothers!'"

    The guy who sings first in this song is Bill Medley. Years after this he sang the theme song to the movie "Dirty Dancing" called "The Time Of My Life". Bill is a baritone which is a lower voice but not as low as a bass. Bobby Hatfield is the one that sang "Unchained Melody". He is a tenor which is a higher male voice. Following this song, you need to listen to their song, "Soul and Inspiration".

    The Unchained Melody was an older song that Bobby sang in his soulful style, and this song was written specifically for them and their singing style. Same with their later song Soul and Inspiration, which Bill produced after they left their previous record company. They had such different voices so they both also did solo songs included on their albums.

  • @strangeworldsunlimited712
    @strangeworldsunlimited712 2 года назад +6

    This will be easy to explain, because it's just the two of them. The melody line is the main line of any song. Musically, it's the most important part. It's the main musical theme. Whenever someone sings the song on their own, the melody line is what they sing. Bill Medley, the first voice you hear, down in the bass, is singing the melody line through most of the song.
    Harmony are the musical lines that surround the melody line. They are usually a bit softer and more in the background, if only by a bit, and there to compliment the melody and fill out the sound. Bobby Hatfield is singing the harmony line above Bill's melody line. But in other groups you can have the harmony below the melody, or above and below if you have enough voices to do so. But the melody line is the lead line, which usually makes the singer of that line the "lead singer", if only for that moment while singing the melody.

    Bill Medley& Bobby Hatfield were not "Brothers" by Blood, just the name of their singing Duo. It was given to them by a Black R&B singing group they toured with, before they became famous. They were hanging out after a gig in a Bar, and one of the guys from the other group said, Man, you guys have a "Righteous" sound. So, they began using the name "The Righteous Brothers." The rest is History, as they went on to become one of the most successful R&B singing stars ever. For years until they were on tv, everyone thought they were Black. Back in the 1960s we had tv of course, but not many shows for that kind of music, so we never really had much chance to really see them, as opposed to hearing them on the radio all the time. Great artists. I think both are gone now.
    Thanks

      interviews with Bill and Bobby...indicated they have said it was Black Marines stationed nearby that used to come into the club they were at who gave them their name by accident. They were not nationally known at the time of course. "You guys sound righteous brother" kind of remark. they started in a group of 4 or 5, and eventually it was just Bill and Bobby left, they needed a name, and remembered the Marines they met several times. Bill is still alive. Bobby died in 2003 in Kalamazoo MI [just less than an hour from my house], in a hotel room. Bill and Bobby were going to sing that night at the local auditorium, but they found him dead in his room, heart failure, but they found cocaine in his blood during the autopsy. Sad sad sad...he was 63.

    Bobby had a 4 octave range. He was an amazing singer who unfortunately passed away in the early to mid 1970's.

    Bill is the tall, deep voice. Bobby is the shorter tenor.

    Bill Medley is the dark one. I'm the one who told you about "Blue eyed Soul".
    Soul has no color. Check out Dusty Springfield.

    Bill Medley (tall deep voice) and Bobby Hatfield are NOT brothers. This song was written in 1964 and was also used in the original movie "Top Gun"

    Unchained Melody goes back to at least 1952 with a guy called Al Hibbler! But, it's widely believed that Bobby Hatfield's version is easily the best! Bobby RIP is on left! Somebody called their style Righteous, and it stuck!
