Your reaction is so honest. We, the 60's, were blessed with talent. It is so much fun to watch you young people as you learn to appreciate the Greatest Decade of music. Now you kind of understand why us Boomers are hard to impress with the music today. Thanks for sharing!
1964 Sophmore in college. Walking thru the dorm half the radios are playing Righteous Bros. We had the very best music. Lovely to see youngsters appreciating real music.
So true. Before MTV, when it was truly only about the music. Don't get me wrong, MTV in it's prime did a lot to get music out there, and I wish more of the 60's and 70's music was videotaped.
I loved out music. I also love this generation is taking the time to experience our music and hear the beauty of the voices. That says a lot about who these younger kids are. I really like their reactions that our music. Thank you so much for your reaction.
Speak for yourself. I'm a child of the 60's but never thought that or any other decade had a monopoly on good music. Yours and most other people's problem is that they stop listening to new stuff in their thirties and live in a state of arrested taste development, thinking that the music of their youth was the best.
Do you yell, "Get off my lawn!" at the neighborhood kids, too? Today's music is REAL, it's just not OURS. I wish I could play some of the stuff my kids listen to for you. I don't like a lot of it, but it's composed according to strong music theory and well played. Just because you and/or I don't like it doesn't mean it isn't real or good. I remember having the same conversation as a teen with my daddy and granddaddy when they wanted to compare Jimi Hendrix or Mick Jagger to Artie Shaw or Tony Bennett. I'm happy these younger folks are exploring older genres, but nothing will cut off the interest and conversation faster than being condescending.
You're getting it, Bobby Hatfield & Bill Medley were a couple of the best singers of that era. I'm 63 and grew up in the 60's, 70's so those guys were flat out great.
When I first heard this song 50 years ago (!) it gave me chills. It still gives me chills today and it is lovely to see Greg and today's young generation, feeling it too. 💕
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were indeed meant to sing together. They complement each other perfectly. This was a great time for music with a lot of talented bands and singers doing their thing. We were the ones who benefitted. Love your reaction! There are a lot of young people who don't think good music existed before their time. Rest in peace, Bobby Hatfield! If there's a rock 'n roll Heaven, I know you're in the band!
I know. 😔 My wife spoke with his cousin not long after he passed. It is astonishing that he continued to sing so well, even getting better and reaching his highest notes as he got older, considering how he disregarded his health. I wish he could witness the rebirth of passionate interest in his and Bill Medley's music with entirely new generations of people. I'm sure he would have been deeply touched as he loved to sing and was very proud of this song in particular. RIP Bobby Hatfield.
These WERE the days when singers were ACTUALLY singers. Instead of all this SCREAMING out your lungs and calling it singing. Before all the audio adjustments are made in the recording studio. KAREN CARPENTER is definitely THE BEST FEMALE VOCALS of her time. The absolute clarity and range is still not matched today.... WITH NO YELLING OR SCREAMING she still gets it done. I have to say...... its FANTASTIC that you are taking the time to put these type of talents back into the light where it belongs... THANK YOU!!!!!!
It’s not auto tune but this track was produced by Ron Specter using his “wall of sound” technique. Basically it’s a sort of echo chamber with multiple mics all around
I don't understand why everyone makes this comment about this (and similar) songs. There was no auto-tune all the way up to the 2000s, it's not anything particular to this time period. Yes, this song is fantastic. Their voices are fantastic. But every single video I see about this song seems to have this requisite "and that was done without auto-tune" comment.

If you go down the Righteous Brothers rabbit hole, you will not be disappointed.
This song was produced by Phil Spector who created the "Wall of Sound". It was a world-changing recording technique that involved meticulous multi-tracking, sometimes with various instruments playing the same melody, until a simple pop song achieved symphonic saturation. The results were oceanic.
As a teenager of 60’s and 70’s I want to thank you for playing the “ Boomers” music. A few tidbits. This was called blue eyed soul, Cher was one of the back up singers and this was the most played song in the 20th century. Never get tired of hearing them sing.
I grew up during a time when school systems actually taught the arts. From orchestra, bass, violin, piano, drums saxophone, ( just about any instrument ), to choir and singing the scales alone, ( A Capella ) while someone played piano to learning and perfecting song, to performing for parents and the community. You had to be on key or you didn’t qualify. The community provided the money for the instruments that the students played, and they were allowed to take instruments home to practice. Art classes discovered many true artist, who have gone on to become famous because they were taught how to draw, paint and sculpt. We need to go back to these days so children can explore their interests and abilities; not just for band to play during a football game. ( but at least there is this for those interested in instruments ). Everything was LIVE. Great review. 😊
Greg, they just don't make music like this anymore!!! So happy you have drove into the oddies!! This is what I grew up with!!!! This is when music was music!!!!!!
I was 8 or 9 when this song came out on the radio, and even then we knew these guys were special! They put so much feeling into their music. Motown was huge back then, and everyone thought they were a black group until they made some TV appearances. Some of the best music of that decade! There was a lot of crap music back then, too. This was top shelf A number one music.
The ladies all melt at the line: "Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you. If you'd only love me, like you used to do." Somewhere, there's a Righteous Bros recording with a very young Cher among the backup singers (I think it was Soul and Inspiration, but not sure).
No, you're right...she's back there to the left, reportedly just over Bobby's head. She was/is kind of tall, so some of the singers are on a riser and she and a few others are on the floor, not sure why they staged/blocked it out it this way for tv but I will assume aesthetics, height whatever. EDIT: I just went to look up some information. If you are interested there is a site called song facts and they discuss the richness of this production, you know the Phil Spector "Wall of Sound" phenomena. They worked their asses off getting this song down in the studio, the brothers and Spector and it sure paid off in every conceivable way. I mean these guys could sing their asses off just in front of mic, as the youtuber is saying, they didnt need the fancy shit....BUT Spector was pretty fancy in his production techniques and innovations (slight echo, vocalists wearing headphones/monitors to get them out of their comfort zone and meld with the other musicians, etc) I don't want to write a book here, you can read the fascinating stuff yourself if you care to and I'll just add that Cher is most prominent in the end chorus of the popular recording of this song which is the traditional ABABCB format verse, chorus, verse, chorus, bridge (Spector came up with that call and response idea, so he must get some props!!! a friggin maniac apparently but something of a genius really), chorus and, although difficult to separate in the track, Glen Campbell is the guitarist for this session.
I had to make my boyfriend melt to know the truth. I was not cheating. I sent him a letter with that verse "Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you. If you would only love like you used to do." He finally realized he was wrong & apologized. I hope he missed me like I missed him. I got him back though.
I'm 74, grew up with this stuff and fell in love e with everyone. Loved your reactions. Nothin like that pure voice. Like mister Nat King Cole, that man could sing.
Bill Medley and Bobby Hatfield were originally singing in different groups. There was one musician who spent time playing in both groups, and it was at his suggestion that the two came together. So if it weren't for Barry RIllera, this is a duet we likely would never have heard. Thank you, Barry, wherever you are.
Yes, your so right and I don't think Barry ever really got much credit for that fact. Barry sadly passed away just a few years ago. What a great friend he was to those two but especially Bobby.
I feel very sorry for you young people who grew up without orchestra and choir in your schools....I grew up with this real music...Keep listening and keep learning....So many beautiful sounds to hear and learn...
Great reaction, Greg, you're spot on with your comment about the music I grew up listening to, it was true singers and true musicians, raw talent, no gimmicks, no computer assists.
I was 17 and they were only 8 yrs older and what fantastic talent, professionalism and class. Thanks Bobby and Bill you did yourself proud and left us with wonderful memories.
I get such a kick out of watching younger generations discover 60s music for the first time! Y'all are just as blown away by it as we were when i t first appeared. Our parents used to hate it, but now that most of them are gone, I can safely say that when it comes to great music, all the generations (who are left) are in perfect agreement. Thanks for this!
I was born in 46 and I remember dancing with the girls with their head on my shoulder... smelling ivory soap from washing their face... and yes one song after another...
I think it is impossible for anyone who wasn't listening to pop/rock/soul in the 1960s to understand the impact of Phil Spector and the Wall of Sound. The Righteous Brothers, Tina Turner, and the all-female singing groups didn't just blaze a trail, they blasted it.
Again, a live performance on TV before auto-tune or other computer assist gimmicks. Just talent. The harmony between the baritone and high tenor is just amazing. They were referred to as "Blue-eyed Soul" as evidenced by their soulful singing. Us ladies of the 60's were serenaded by men whom respected us and weren't afraid to put their emotions into words. Talent of the magnitude can't be found today. And, these guys weren't the only ones! Every solo artist, duet, group recorded songs that were soft to the ers and pierced the hearts of us ladies. Intentionally. Not impressed with much nowadays- the standards were set too high "back in the day".
BMI today announced the Top 100 Songs of the Century, listing the most played songs on American radio and television. Leading the list is the anthemic "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," written by Barry Mann, Phil Spector and Cynthia Weil, which recently passed the historic 8 million performance plateau. It was originally recorded by The Righteous Brothers and produced by Spector
These are men singing to a woman, not about her. Some 60 years gone, they are still captivating. How many of today's artists will be able to say that in 60 years?
One of the epic performances one of the most popular songs of all time. This is what was called "Blue Eyed Soul". They weren't actual brothers and their name came from a night when they were performing at a marine base back when they were unknown and several of the Black servicemen said they were "righteous". Btw 17 year old Cher was one of the backup singers.
I love watching people hear this song for the first time. Such an iconic song. I have a recommendation (nothing like Righteous Brothers) that nobody else has had the testicular fortitude to play, but it’s a powerful song by an extremely influential band. ‘Tin Omen’ by Skinny Puppy. It’s an 80s song but it’s just as relevant today as it was 35ish years ago.
OMG, that is really out of left field my friend!!! LOL. But I have to agree, I really love me some Skinny Puppy. Wow, have not heard that in literal decades. Thank you so much, going to go into/re-visit that right now!!
@@michaelesgro9506 normally I make recommendations that fit with the video that’s playing, but I’d rarely get to recommend anything Industrial if I waited for a similar song. 😎
@@jasonmarquis7586 LOL yeah, at best you could possibly bridge to industrial in a way. For example, I have seen many of these reactors doing Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt", I mean like prolifically the same way all of them just must do Righteous Bros (this one and Unchained Melody). So you have a 9 Inch Nails song and maybe can somehow get to Skinny Puppy, close as you maybe can get? Hey, this gives me an idea of a kind of 6 degrees of separation musical game LOL. Please connect Patsy Cline to The Sex Pistols. ha ha
@@michaelesgro9506 😂😂😂 Heck yeah, that game’s got merit. There’s a few socially accepted Industrial bands, although NIN is the only one that comes to mind.

I have something for you..
The Righteous Brothers had a whole lotta soul.
Love Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley (Blue-Eyed) Soul sound!!! I grew up listening to these two beautiful "soul" singers!! Great reaction to them!!!
Greg, they just don't make music like this anymore!!! So happy you have drove into the oddies!! This is what I grew up with!!!! This is when music was music!!!!!!

This is what I grew up with pure
I was 8 or 9 when this song came out on the radio, and even then we knew these guys were special! They put so much feeling into their music. Motown was huge back then, and everyone thought they were a black group until they made some TV appearances. Some of the best music of that decade! There was a lot of crap music back then, too. This was top shelf A number one music.
I love your reaction to this...their voices are amazing.
The ladies all melt at the line: "Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you. If you'd only love me, like you used to do."
Somewhere, there's a Righteous Bros recording with a very young Cher among the backup singers (I think it was Soul and Inspiration, but not sure).
1 lady melting right here!🎙💋🙋♀️
yep
I had to make my boyfriend melt to know the truth. I was not cheating. I sent him a letter with that verse
"Baby, baby, I'd get down on my knees for you.
Bobby Hatfield was a generational talent, such a voice.

They also sang Soul and Inspiration, Unchained Melody, Rock and Roll Heaven. 👍 Great reaction. Thx.
^^^^^^^^. THIS!!!!
This is my favorite though, hits me hard
I get such a kick out of watching younger generations discover 60s music for the first time! Y'all are just as blown away by it as we were when i t first appeared. Our parents used to hate it, but now that most of them are gone, I can safely say that when it comes to great music, all the generations (who are left) are in perfect agreement. Thanks for this!
I saw them and the carpenters in one show in Tahoe back in 1975 or 76. It was so impressive. Will always remember the proformances.
you know real music and your young this was my time and i am glad you like it
It makes me feel so nostalgic like I'm back in my parents home when I was young and it's playing on dad's transistor radio 😢

Never say never! Things come back around. 😂❤❤❤❤
That's the sound of women's hearts melting
I was born in 46 and I remember dancing with the girls with their head on my shoulder... smelling ivory soap from washing their face... and yes one song after another...
My heart is pounding. Born in 1960 and I still have to hold my breath a little.❤️❤️
Oooooh, I’ve been waiting for ur reaction to this one!!!!!! Those boys can sang!!!!!!!

We are so lucky that videos were recorded at that time, we would have missed the visual of such beautiful voices
Not impressed with much nowadays- the standards were set too high "back in the day".
they are smooth, im 75 never heard better
That awful gut wrenching feeling of coming out of a relationship hits hard whatever the era

That’s why this was the most played song of the 20th century. Just pure magic!!
One of the epic performances one of the most popular songs of all time. This is what was called "Blue Eyed Soul". They weren't actual brothers and their name came from a night when they were performing at a marine base back when they were unknown and several of the Black servicemen said they were "righteous". Btw 17 year old Cher was one of the backup singers.
...but can you spot her? 🙃
@@steve55sogood16 I saw a video once where she was highlighted. She's somewhere on the left side. I can't remember which one she is.
@@bryanCJC2105 Never mind, thanks anyway! Just a mystery I've been curious about! 👍
The lyrics, the melody, the harmony, the Phil Spector production. Masterful. Gives me goose bumps.
@@michaelesgro9506 the band that I’d really like to see a reaction to is GWAR, but that’s never going to happen.
I love this song. I like the deep voice and this song you hear it. ❤❤❤❤😊😊😊
Exactly ❤️ ...Try "Soul and Inspiration " by them....Goosebumps 😲

Wow I love that I grew up from 1965 and onwards all I can say is it didn't matter black white whatever you listen to the radio you just loved the music the song and the singer, and now that I'm a lot older I realize the talent they had because no Auto-Tune
I love your reaction! Yes, the righteous Brothers are amazing.
It is good to see you youngsters appreciate the music I grew up with. These young men were very talented. They also dressed for the occasion, as did the audience. My generation had the greatest music.

'' Soul and Inspiration '' is a must for you next by them❤
I always go back to oldies when I'm tired of over produced stuff. There's always that "wow" factor you can't predict. A song voices poetry the way we like to hear it.
It’s so fun to see young people appreciating this old music.
No auto tune.. Just talented.
