Pros
- Good looking flying model of the Maule MX-7-180B STOL aircraft.
- Weighs only 97 grams with battery installed. Does NOT require registration or remote ID (RID) in most countries.
- Ready to fly plane with included transmitter.
- True four channel airplane with throttle, elevator, rudder, and aileron control.
- Constructed of flexible and crash resistant EPP foam.
- Plenty of power from its 1504 KV4700 brushed motor, even when powered by its 1S battery.
- Three selectable flight modes. Novice 6G mode includes full 6 axis stabilization (3 axis gyro and 3 axis accelerometer). Also includes angle restrictions that prevent the aircraft rolling or pitching over. Intermediate "Gyro auxiliary mode" mode also includes 6 axis stabilization, but turns off pitch angle restrictions to allow aerobatic loop stunts. "3D manual mode" turns off all stabilization for fully aerobatic manual flying.
- Controller also includes a stunt button that allows the airplane to automatically conduct loops and aileron rolls.
- Efficient flier. It's 3.7V 500mah battery (size 851740) provides up to 14 minutes of flight time.
Cons
- Controller does not have any telemetry warnings. But it does give a beep every minute to allow the pilot to estimate flight time for battery preservation.
- The tail surface controls (rudder and elevator) do not provide very much movement (control authority) with their stock installed outboard position on the control horns. This causes very poor turning of the plane, especially when in 6G mode. It's best to move them to their full inboard position to provide much better movement of the surfaces, and thus better turning.
- Although based on a STOL aircraft, this plane will easily stall at low speeds, even in 6G mode. It's best to keep some throttle and speed on the plane (50% or better) to prevent these stalls.

The Volantex Sport Cub 500 or Eachine p51 400mm warbird are better choices. Fly much better steaight out of the box
I too had to make many adjustments to the Qidi a500. Mostly to the elevator and add weight to the front. Also make sure you own a glue gun to fix the nose when you break it in two after a crash.
Just flew mine in the middle of the night. Those lights are so damn bright it’s perfect! Amazing plane but I find you can’t pull up when there’s no power to the motor so had a few close calls.
Question - when you apply throttle on takeoff, does the gyro (in 6D mode) apply up elevator ??? On my Blue one it does and it’s a little annoying….
I love that you can turn off the lights. On the umx Turbo Timber Evolution, it has a total of 8 lights, and you CANT turn them off!! I cant even fly in the dark, i have astigmatism. It only kills battery life.
You can disable the lights on most UMX models by unplugging the LED harness from the board.

If You remove the wheels or at least lighten the landing gear smaller light weight wheels or just remove landing gear it will fly without stalling much slower. Big wheels to much weight and resistance in the air on such a small plane.

A good model of a bushplane would stay in the air going slow on low throttle. These types of planes should be pseudo-gliders with motor assist.
This is flying more like a warbird.

@@Quadcopter101 No, it appears you're right. "Qidi" is an actual language in China! And since this plane is clearly from China, it's reasonable to assume the pronunciation would be the Chinese one. It's written as "期弟" and the "期" part is pronounced fairly close to "Chi."
