I came from a game where ghost notes essentially meant that you missed the notes because of something like lag or the game dropping your inputs, so it’s interesting to know this definition!
Oh ive never heard of that definition before, really interesting.
Thanks for letting me know !
real
@@laoloserrsame here. it's also sometimes when the touch sensor just malfunctions and start randomly sensing input which drops early-judgement goods or even misses
ghost tapping near a fake ending saved me so many times. it's definitely a must for those situations!
also when i used to play on android i had to ghost tap at the very beginning to make sure my touchscreen didn't decide to nope out on me lmao
😭 oh no not the jank android screens
I always do a ghost tap in the all part (where the notes appear) bc of my android hates me, so i feel you
Never actually knew that would happen. After my about 6 years of using Androids, I've never encountered that problem in my life.
I've always done ghost taps for FUN. I never thought it was a real technique, but you basically told me all about it.
I also do ghost tapping to make sure the ending isn't a fake ending :3
i do them for fun too, like before Usseewa's chorus on expert, etc
Yeah me too
i actually lost my combo to ghost taps.....UUUHHHHMMMMM-
ghost tapping consistently breaks my combos, yet i keep doing it on instinct in songs i really like 😭
Most likely you’re tapping too close to other notes. So you can either use your other hand / other side of the screen to ghost tap.
Or leave out that tap all together 😭
Its a problem I have playing iidx too
sometime a chart was "under-chartted" i usually ghost tap since i love the feeling when i can hear "hit sounds" sync with the beat of a song, that's also one of the most important reason why i play rhythm game in the first place, and yes it does helps a lot to feel the rhythm of the song, so great technique 👍
Yes !
It helps out a ton when I have to play hard, or lower difficulties
(I usually try to get the AP first attempt so I never have to play them again 😭)
@@laoloserr ikr? like it's so boring try to re-fc/ap a hard or below charts
Ghost tapping is something I started doing naturally as a consequence of learning to play the music on my flute - where I often tap my heel to keep the beat, so now when I play a track I can actually play I ghost tap whenever one hand isn't doing something. Additionally, having learnt to play some of the songs on my flute has definitely improved my ability to play the tracks because I've tuned my ear to hear more of the notes - and especially differentiating which beats are part of the melody or not
ive been doing ghost taps ever since i started pjsk cuz they just felt right, i didnt know this was a real technique 😭
If it feels right and it works, than anything can be a real technique !
I know some of you out there are like me who lightly grinds their teeth from left to right to the rhythm.
Nooo stopp
Now I have to try it out 😭😭
OMG I THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE
yup. All the time
Help I thought that was a me thing
I play with 0 note volume so i add ghost taps to kinda make my own music and add some spice into the parts that seem kinda bland
Yes same !
Especially the ending for Hitorinbo Envy
I always tap out a funky beat during the gap 😂
I cant help myself and it just became habit now
I actually see some pro rhythm game players do ghost taps so I tried doing the same thing and realised that it actually helps me feel the rhythm of the song much better, making me hit more perfect notes and even full combos
My guy keep up the amazing work the way you explain rhythm game concepts is so accessible
Thank you !!
The goal is to make rhythm games appealing to new players so your feedback is very helpful ! :D
@@laoloserr of course! I've been following you since your video on JP pjsk stopping making you unable to play when you died and immediately loved your style. I'm skilled enough at the game to not really need this sort of content to get better but I still remember what it's like to be a noob at the game and honestly younger me would have found your videos insanely helpful so I know I'm sticking around, especially when your videos are so enjoyable.
a simpler way to explain why this works is because ur basically turning ur other hand into a metronome which counts the bpm of a song and that in turn helps u with tapping a note to the beat more accurately
tldr blah blah blah music theory
I thought about adding a bit of music theory during a few previous iterations of the script
But then it got too deep trying to explain 8th notes and the difference between 4/4 & 3/4 time signatures, etc
😭
@@laoloserr yeah makes sense
I really just vibe to the music in anyway I can to keep the rhythm. Ghost tapping yes, but maybe even bobbing my head/body to the rhythm… Rhythm games aren’t solely based on timing, really. It’s so much easier to hit a pattern of notes if you know the beat, which is obvious but powerful.
It’s what helps me sightread new charts so well.
Ive done this for a while, and its so helpful!!!! also i havent been commenting on your recent stuff but i still love it and have been here for the early days!!
I see you !! 😤😤
Thanks for the support !
Seems useful. Will try it!
Your videos are absolutely amazing! as a high level player myself i was thinking about making guides like these tı help new players. I would absolutely love to help out in any way i can! Continue making vids!
I still find it hard to use ghost taps because when I do, I lose my rhythm... I solely rely on vision, the sound of notes when I first play the song or from a gameplay, and muscle memory to play a song. I only use it to see if the song isn't finished. Maybe when master the game a little more, maybe I could master the ghost tap too QwQ
Ive adapted to be able to visually time, as well as audibly time, so I get what you mean.
When i first started doing ghost taps (in the middle of a tournament lol) it was horrible and it didnt work well at all. But overtime i found a way to make it work for me and my playstyle, so im sure you’ll find something that works for you as well !
@@laoloserr Yikes... I'd cry if that happened to me QwQ. And hopefully so, I could work my skills out. Nice video btw!
once you get into harder charts rarely would you see ghost tapping being used as the song is simply so dense all the way and if there is a break section your likely to not ghost tap to save energy but it is useful for less dense charts that only have 8ths/slow bpm 16ths
Your amazing bookie ❤
I've always done this subconsciously, I had no idea it was an actual thing 😭
i have to do this on the easies and normals events force you to clear because they're just so damn boring to play 😅
I usually only do this just because there’s space to
It doesn’t help me much with accuracy, especially on like slower note speed like in jinsei and yaminabe where I actually lose accuracy if I try yup
Ghost tap/ghosting to me always just meant input dropping
I ghost tap about half the time, but I’m always counting and giving the notes actual note values
I usually do ghost taps when I play casually or when I know the songs well. I didn't even know that what they were called 😅 I just instinctively did it.
I ALWAYS DO GHOST TAPS WITHOUT EVEN KNOWING WHY SO THIS VID HELPED YIPPEE YAHOO
Honestly I didn’t know that ghost taps had a purpose I know I’ve seen people do it and I always wondered why and now it makes sense, I’m a band kid so I’m used to like tapping my foot and counting to 4 multiple times so this doesn’t seem any different but it’s funny because some songs I have tried to count 1,2,3,4 over and over to try to keep time but this seems like a better method it’s like a metronome and you don’t have to think as much
i play like 3 instruments and i always count beats in my head and ghost tap along for fun :)
then there's me who just does it for fun
Mainly i do it cuz it just looks cool😀, but it really helps with keeping my rhythm throughout the song
I already do this but that’s probably because it’s super hard for me to stay still
For me, I like to ghost tap depending on what song I’m playing. For example Gehenna (Master) I ghost tap when the song kinda slows down and throws small notes, and I also ghost tap during the hold notes of Intense Voice expert mode. Maybe if I tried ghost tapping during Children Record master, I could’ve fc’ed it faster 😭😭
Ah I just did it for fun
Didn't know it was actually useful :0
holy shit ive been doing this ever since i started playing rhythm games, i just like tapping to the beat :y
and it's a SKILL??? im cracked
god gamer :)
(hasn't unlocked Master yaminabe or jinsei yet)
I use ghost taps basically all time time if I ever am just trying to AP low difficulty songs. I think a vast majority of songs on easy difficulty are just one constant slow ghost tap all the way through. I feel its the reason some people can get an AP on something like expert but not on easy or medium, just the lack of constant notes to maintain the BPM makes it hard to just jump in sparse notes on easy.
while playing pjsk envy i do ghost taps during the pause and part with sliders to fill in the gaps...
wait this is inportant i just did it bc i was bord of the empty parts-
Could u make a video on how u can get rid of lag on project sekai..? Or how people could paly the game without having to get kicked out.
I have heard it be called free style too, i use it often in DDR and other games including Colorful Stage. im glad there is not penalty for it in this game.
In terms of dance games like ddr / pump it up.
Freestyle is a whole different thing 😂
What I’m talking about would be called ghoststeps !
I love you laoloser

I'm still a relatively new player, and i know it's a bit off topic but i wanted an answer so i could get used to it in the future
Is it better to play with wrists down (like on the table) or wrists up?
Wrists up
Imagine like you’re playing piano
Wrists down could lead to carpel tunnel 😰
@@laoloserr *me who have been doing wrists down*
thanks for saving me the hospital bills
which chart is being played at 2:23?
For me ghost taps are what destroy my accuracy lol, I tap my feet or nod my head instead tho.
Edit: just after i pressed enter and posted this comment, you said the feet and head thing LOL, you read my mind
did you include a taiko god named 2nurupo_ ?
..I waited for the "how to do ghost taps?" section and the video ends before I find it. Never been this letdown before.
When there is a break, or gap in between notes just keep tapping on empty space and pretend that there is another note to keep your mind in the game. It says that in the video.
yo this a fun video, might be a better idea to talk faster (even tho its only 4 minutesish)
