my only tip with wide bars is to try visualising beforehand which one of your right or left finger will hit the bar it's complicated at first but once you get used to preshot the bar you should be able to get it easily
usually it's my main hand that will hit the bar (if it's a wide one in the middle of the screen) but depending on the configuration it'll be the closest hand to hit it
the way i learned to overcome this was to only focus on the small keys during those patterns. just follow the small keys, but keep the same beat in your taps. almost try and complete ignore the wide keys, as if they're there to distract you
The hardest thing about trills is probably determining the speed of the trill. It's easy to get greats when the notes are packed together. The most problematic pattern for me is definitely stairs. Especially the 5 key ones with small notes like this: _ _ _ _ _
Fr i can do trills fine but switches are a mess for some reason. If there are trills leading up to it i can hit no problem but when its just a line of notes i cant hit it idk why
i thought project sekai's gimick was flick notes but its actually the note size changing so many ways to read and play a chart because of it (kinda like vivid/stasis)
If you're comfortable with Tondemo Wonderz Expert I'd recommend picking up Brain Fluid Explosion Girl Expert as the whole song is just a whole big 155 BPM thrill, if you've got enough stamina it's a fairly straightforward and fun chart For keeping up with thrills/lines (also in other rhythm games this pattern is called a jackhammer) i advise feeling the tempo of your song as a metronome, my technique is kinda insane but bear with me because it has been incredibly helpful: slightry clank your TEETH to the song and try to synchronize clanking with tapping. Weird but helped me a lot
@@thisstreammuststop8321 same. brain fluid is like a breeze. trills in straight line is hard. the straighter it is, the harder it will be. tondemo has too much of them,
@@thisstreammuststop8321 HAHA SAME it's really hard because of sudden rhythm changes (esppecially at the end where the weird offset triplets start), tricky asymmetric tap+flick combinations and intense thrills, i'd rate it 28* honestly because most 27* and some 28* are MUCH more straightforward
Brain fluid explosion girl expert is okay, I fced it at least 2 times on thumbs. Tondemo wonderz expert is pain. The best I did was 2 misses. It’s harder than Tell your world Append, AND I STEPPED OUT OF MY COMFORT ZONE TO PLAY ON INDEX FOR THAT SONG. I’m not used to playing with index fingers on a phone, but I did that chart better than Tondemo Wonderz expert on both thumbs and index. I despise Tondemo Wonderz. Sure, Tell your world append has a lower level than Tondemo Wonderz expert, but you need about 4 fingers to play it. I HATE TONDEMO WONDERZ AHHHHH BRAIN FLUID EXPLOSION GIRL IS SO MUCH EASIER
I think that a big part is to just enjoy the song. It the name of the game after all. Once you get the rhythm down you could probably do it blindfolded or at least that is how it is for me.
Does anyone else experience a note not registering in a trill? It's always only one note, but I make sure I'm hitting it in the right spot and it just... says it's a Miss anyway. It's been ruining my Voices Master AP attempts for months.
Performance issue probably. Some devices straight up just lag with enough inputs and notes happening in succession. One of my devices just doesn't have the power to handle it, and the other has a screen issue where too many inputs in a specific place can confuse it sometimes... It's so annoying...
i think what may help is listening to the song and seeing other people play it beforehand. i know one of the tips is to ignore the song, but personally, listening to the song and really focusing on it's beats really helps me to play. its a rhythm game after all!
I was thinking why trills were so easy for me nowadays if they are so hard when I have so much trouble with other relatively easy things, and 3/4 through the video i found my answer lol i forced myself to suffer through tondemo wonderz as one of my first experts lol
big thanks for the song suggestions! i've been having issues with keeping a consistent rhythm on trills and was looking to practice with simpler and slower trills. i'm gonna try playing them soon! also your channel has been on fire lately! i've been enjoying your content and it's honestly a breath of fresh air, not just with proseka, but with rhythm game youtube in general. keep up the good work 😍
Probably the hardest part of the song. I wish I have advice for you, but I guess you just need to practice that part more 😭 (I've FC it like 10 times) Or....... Just put your fingers between two notes and treat that like a stationary trill. No reading needed 🤣
saw this video recommended to me despite not being a PRSK player, pretty good video. I hate to be "that guy" but there's already a term for what you refer to as "switches" in this video - they're jacks. People will say I'm being pedantic here, but knowing the common terminology does help a lot if anyone needs to ask a better player (sometimes from another game) for advice. I know a lot of people who've asked me for advice and we have to spend like an hour basically playing telephone with terminology since I don't know what they're trying to say lol For future reference if people are confused about terminology (can't give examples since the last time I played the game was at JP launch): trills are basically spot on stairs are pretty self-explanatory, I think I got confused when I heard ladders in this video and mixed myself up chords are basically sets of notes you hit at the same time what people often refer to as "notespam" is either streams or rolls, from my experience - streams are just continuous patterns of notes with no real repetition, but rolls are a repeated sequence that reoccurs a set amount of times, often in what feels like a circular motion. you'll notice the difference pretty quickly once you see the two as for actual advice on trills, it's a combo of "be vaguely aware of music theory" and understanding your own physical limit as a player. hitting 32nd note trills/jacks at 150 BPM is gonna feel a lot different from 16th note trills/jacks at 180+ BPM, so I would suggest looking up the differences to familiarise yourself and get a feel for the proper timing. a lot of the time, you should probably use your gut feeling and choose whether to listen to either the music or timing, but the answer to "how do you hit faster trills" really is "just go faster" lol. maybe turn down your hi-speed if you're struggling that much and can deal with the change to your timing. tl;dr play game and enjoy game sorry if this comes off as elitist or something, I think it's pretty important for everyone to be on the right page so they get proper advice lol
Ah thank you for this detailed comment ! Im familiar with chords from playing iidx, but my dance gamer brain is hardwired to call them jumps lol And as for jacks vs switches The term I use is dependent on the context of the chart. There are jacks scattered throughout the game, but more commonly (imo) there are more charts that intend for you to switch your fingers. For example _ - - -
this definition is fair enough! I'm kind of an oldhead who's never really heard of anyone tackle these kinds of patterns differently until watching this video, so it's interesting to see how we approach the methodology lol. my primary game is SDVX, so I think I'm viewing this topic from the perspective of someone who typically plays more traditional rhythm game formats rather than someone more familiar with touchscreen/mobile games - sorry if my comment came off as a bit too much! I think most people would generally define the example in your comment as something akin to a mini-jack, but I'll try not to be more pedantic than I've already been with this comment ^^;
Jacks are single lane (usually) patterns meant to be executed with one hand. Switches (or trains as they're called in some game communities) are single lane patterns meant to be executed with two hands
Heavenly Caress? DX Choseinou? Manic Jeer?? Okay, the first two may be memories from when I was starting out with the game, but that last one is still almost impossible for me.
these things are the reason I don't fc some songs, I need to pratice more because it's literally always thrills or just missed flicks, this was a really good video
Also for underwater in Expert, the trills are the music, so it's pretty easy to catch them if you listen to the music (sometimes the trills are less "obvious" but i find this one pretty easy to catch =) ) Tbf i'm very bad at trills, but honestly, practice makes perfect XD I can do the "Twilight Melody" (Master) ones everytime now, and i managed to FC Melt in Expert. i'll take your advices into consideration tho ! I want to get better and now that i'm playing more and more in Masters, I'll have to master this skill one day, it's inevitable XD Thank you for your awesome video once again \o/
if anything I have another tip: always calibrate when playing rhythm games! Trills/Switches are hard because they are the best representation on how unsynced your tap notes are to the music. you see, if playing spaced out music notes, you look at the notes, and tap it with music. with trills/switches, the looking part becomes hard, so you resort to tap with the music, which unfortunately isn't sync enough for you to rapidly tap with it. even miliseconds of delay affects everything. you know your game is properly calibrated if you realized you are tapping the notes without even putting an effort into it (and even starting to have real fun in playing rhythm games xD). it just become natural because the tap notes and the music are one and in sync. ...this tip might be super niche it might be working only for me, but I'll still put this out here in case this might still help someone xD
Switches or as I know them as "Jacks" are what I struggle with in rhythm games as the Rhythm Games I play you have to hit them with 1 finger like for example "Osu! Mania/DJMAX". Another thing I struggle with is in Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone with the 360 Spam in Intense Voice on Extreme. besides these things in my years of playing everything I picked up from just having fun
I think my main issue with trills is reading. I can go fast *fast* but once it’s something that isnt entirely clear, my reaction speed is slow. Most of the time I click my fingers fast enough to do trills by one finger instead of two which is a problem with longer trills.
I have no idea how I managed to FC underwater on master. I did it once and still haven't been able to do it again 😅 It is perfect practice for these notes though. Great video!
Can you also tackle using more than 2 fingers? Songs like yaminabe with really high difficulty have parts where you have to use (for example) one finger to hold a note and two to flick at the same time
This is so instructive! I’ve got a lot of trouble dealing with trills/switches. I can’t FC melt on expert, and I used different ways to try make the trills ‘not’ a trill. For example, on Tondemo Wonderz master and melt master I bash my thumb on the switches. on parasol Cider, I trill with index and middle finger of my right hand, instead of my usual thumb stance(because it’s at the start) and the hold notes right after give me enough time to switch my stance back. Gotta try this out
this helps so much!! I can usually do trills but not ladders notes for some reason, and my right hand tends to just try and tap all the ladder nows on its own half the time :'>
I often use underwater (master) just for the trills... I've played it so many times that I've gotten used to it... But well... I guess the reason why I couldn't full combo the song is because of the speed I always set... In my opinion, speed of 11.3 is the most comfortable speed for me
To be honest, I can full combo underwater master... It's just that I've got a problem with the notes after the spam notes... The size of the notes got me so confused... After those confusing notes I'm fine with the end notes... Just that part of underwater is making me so confused that I can't hit the notes accurately
I'd also like to add that turning the early/late/flick display in settings helps a LOT with fast trills/switches - sometimes you can keep up the rhythm but you end up losing your combo because you've gone too fast/slow. Having it displayed if the greats are early and late can help massively in adjusting your tempo before you get a good (this helped me so much on the end of Melt master). Also the keeping audible rhythm point is great! I use my fingers but it helps for me to tap with a lot of force with trills, that way I hear it more loudly AND my fingers are less likely to stop coordinating and start losing the rhythm since there's more force behind the movements so your original movements are lost more slowly? I can't describe it exactly but it works (I do the opposite for note spam though, there it helps me if I press it quite lightly. Also for switches I just use two fingers on the same hand, it's so much easier for me to keep up a rhythm that way). Finally if you're struggling with a part like that in a song, it helps a lot to try to do a harder song with a similar part you know you can't do first - when you go back to the original song you're struggling with it'll seem much much easier. Great video!
i think my issue is a lack of finger control (low bpm trills are a crime against humanity and switches are even worse bc my screen is small) so the low bpm chart recommendations helped a lot. I think some of them were harder to hit accurately than the 30, ngl. have the same issue with high bpm jacks as they are similar in mechanism,,, great vid
Very interesting. I have a question as someone who plays Taiko and osu! (Mechanical keyboard)- is finger control on a touch display achieved with focusing on your wrist or raw finger dexterity?
@@SanzuRiver finger control does mostly involve your wrist as playing usually involves locking your fingers in place, utilsing your wrist strength to tap and using the elbow as a pivot, but certain multifinger patterns can involve more finger dexterity. trills and jacks in particular are probably comparable to high bpm singletapping in osu in terms of technique in a single hand. just my opinion, and this question is intriguing to me as well
idk why but I really like listening to these sorts of videos on gameplay mechanics even though I'm very much at a skill level where I don't need em anymore
Great video! I'm a taiko player, so the things I've learned might not apply, but I've always found it valuable with the part about less focusing the sound effects and more focusing on your own inputs. Most games I even disable sound effects and let buttons do the sounds for me for the exact same reason as making it feel satisfying, so you're pretty spot on. I also found that fine-tuning an offset setting that works for you really helps for that especially, so you could match that tactile feeling of pressing a button to the music more precisely.
One thing you can do with your normal trills is to mostly focus on half of the trill pattern (Left side or right side). The game sometimes drops hints about it by making the notes on the left white coloured, and the notes on the right yellow coloured, or vice versa. You especially need this chart reading technique on high end charts where the trills are too fast to read every single note, or where there's a lot of big notes confusing you, which in that case you focus on reading the positions of the small notes.
I like trills, except those like at the end of melt.. getting worked up just thinking about how many times I lost fc thanks to them. but god I hate spam notes though, it's a whole different level 😂
These are my favourite parts of the songs. I cannot describe my satisfaction when the first master I've full-comboed was Underwater. I just love spamming notes
Honestly, back when I used to play the game, I loved trill notes. It was always the flick notes that I hated (only because my touchscreen wasn't registering the flicks properly when I played)
Do you think you could make a video with the different "types" of note patterns found in games? You mention gallops (sp?) etc, and I've seen people use "staircases" or "waterfalls" and not quite known what they meant, lol.
stairs is when the notes from to left to right is show as below and vice versa _ _ _ | _ _ | _ _ _ _ | _ | _ _ _ _ | _ | _ _ _ _ | _ _ | _ _ _ jacks are when a note appears in one lane more often and usually faster than other lanes ie. notes in all lane 1 in 8th, 16th or more subdivisions mini jacks are jacks but only 2-3 in a lane chords are usually 3 simultaneous notes but ive seen people say 2 notes as a chord quads are 4 simultaneous notes jumps are 2 notes and the name comes fron ddr as you jump to hit 2 notes at same time jump trills are essentially what this video is about execept each hand is is using 2 fingers ie. index and middle on right and left hand streams are spin off fron trills and if playing with 2 fingers usually means your moving your fingers otherwise for 4 fingers this is notes spaced out in 4 lanes rolls are used more often then stairs but its essentially same thing going from one lane to the other jump streams combine jumps and streams and is a standard in 4 key pattern hand streams combine streams and hands which involve 3 simultaneous notes and can often have minijacks in them chord jacks combine chords and jacks for the ultimate stamina pattern I think that is all of the patterns but I probably forgot some.
somehow found this thru recs, and its a great video for sure. love both explanation and song practice suggestion. funnily enough tho bcs of my old phone where theres a thin line that wont register touches, making screencross slides impossible, ladder spam becomes my first more advanced skill that i learn, alongside freeway flicking (learned all this at Bandori, way before ProSekai is out)
Best song to train your finger 😊: 1. Yaminabe(ヤミナベ!!!!) 2. The Intense Voice of Hatsune Miku(初音ミクの激唱) 3. What’s Up, Pop! 4. The end of Hatsune Miku(初音ミクの消) 5. Don’t fight the music.
One thing that helped me is trying to to look near the bottom where you fingers are, I tend to do that and I end up getting all worried about what my fingers are doing and not hitting the notes. ^ ^
I'm only finally getting ahold of the trill notes on expert! I found that fighting tooth and nail to FC Children Record did wonders to improve my skills on trills, while it definitely might not hold up for higher level master songs, I found it to be a good starting point for 27s and 28s on expert and some masters. But over all, Children Record is full of a lot of short trill bursts along with alternating trills, with it being fast paced I think that song helped me a ton! I feel like Snow Mix could be a good song to practice with too especially for tiny note trills which are especially annoying, they always ruin my full combo Since I've figured out trills, they've become a note type I love so much (along with flick spams lmao)
as a more experienced rhythm game player, this is a pretty great video all things considered! there's just one thing I'd like to point out; another common term for those vertical one lane notes are 'jacks' or 'jackhammers' (the former being used most often) (just wanted to suggest that as you technically don't have to alternate those kinds of patterns lol)
@@Syonico basically yes. He calls them switching because you are meant to switch hands between each one of them. Like a longjack on spacebar if you play 7k
I love playing tondemo wonderz to practice trills Another good song, if you're really new to it, would be Happy Halloween. There's quite a few gallops, as well as 3 step ladders that can be helpful if you want practice
i struggled with trills at first, but with playing rhythm games alot i began to memorize some of the song charts, pretended to play on random objects and treated it like playing drums. the most difficult notes though are jack notes; two notes that come subsequently that are designed to be played with two fingers, not a double tap of one finger.
Arcaea player of 12.6ptt here, i think trills and streams are cool. the point of "ignoring the music" isn't too helpful however with some charts involving trills of higher note density such as 24ths or even 32nds in rare scenarios. You need to still pay attention to the song and know when to stop trilling. Also, the single lane patterns you call switches are usually called trains in the Arcaea community, because the connected notes look like train rails or something i guess. i think thats just neat to know
Trains is def a clever term to use lol And sorry if I wasnt clear in the video ! I notice newer players will try to mash whenever a trill comes up so I usually tell them to be more deliberate with their taps (shift focus to your taps more) but not completely ignore the music. Its more to get their foot in the door and becoming more comfortable with these patterns so when they reach a difficulty with 24ths and 32nds theyre less likely to panic
I don't know how the pattern is called, but the final part of the EmpErroR, the one with really fast flicks and double notes is what gets me. I get past everything pretty smoothly, but that part either breaks my combo or completely kills me.
in Arcaea I call switches "sky note trains" or just trains. Grievous Lady future chart is notorious for train patterns, but they are easy once you get the hang of it. Most 16th note patterns i just call streams
I have been about a 3 month player on pjsk (technically 6 months since i had an old account but created a new one), and I have 167 Experts and 5 Masters FC with a note speed of 11, trills are definitely still my weakness in this game, but i've been practicing with both Unknown-Mother Goose Expert and Twilight Melody Master to get the hang of it, and i've been missing less and less on the trill parts
Personally I think a really good starting trill and switch practice for higher difficulty songs is machine gun poem doll on expert. It’s a great warmup to get you that rhythm to prepare for some of those 33+ masters (especially if you’re trying to do intense voice)
As someone who struggled a LOT on trills just a few months ago (even the really easy ones) but can now handle up to lv28/29, here were some of the songs I think that were the best for practice (in addition to the ones mentioned cause I agree with those too). Expert 23 - Sharing The World - I HAD so much trouble with this song, and found it harder than expert 25s due to how many trills there were. None of them were especially fast, but they were very long. Good practice for someone just getting into longer trills. Expert 24 - yomosugara kimi omou - There's a decently slow trill at the beginning of the chorus, pretty good for practice. Expert 24 - Forward - God I hate this chart, but no doubt it's a good song to get used to trills since there's so many of them including ones with strange rhythm and ones that have notes of varying sizes. Definitely challenging so maybe try a few after this first (I was fc-ing 27s before I fc-ed this). Expert 24 - phony - A good song to practice faster trills, since there's a decently fast one at the start of the song. Expert 25 - Blue Star - Similar to Sharing the World, but a bit harder as its a 25. Expert 25 - sweety glitch (EN Exclusive) - Dang all of these songs that start off on EN really love their trills, this one has multiple moderate speed trills too. Expert 25 - Daybreak Frontline - Way too many trills to count, none of which are too fast or challenging though. Could be a good one to get started with. Expert 25 - Cosmospice - 3 decently long trills at the beginning with various arrangements, good for practice. Lots of shorter 5 note trills later on in the song next to hold notes too. Expert 25 - Night Sky Patrol of Tomorrow - If you really want a challenge this is definitely a good song. The Level 25 rating is very misleading imo and this song is as difficult as most expert 26, and probably has the fastest trill so far leading into the chorus. There's also another trill shortly after that. Expert 26 - PianoxFortexScandal - Kinda like the ex26 version of Daybreak Frontline, so many trills but not the hardest. Expert 26 - junky nighttown orchestra - This song on the other hand has some pretty challenging trills, including some arrangement changes in the middle of the trill. Had a lot of trouble with this song so definitely watch out. Expert 26 - Unknown Mother Goose - One of the hardest expert 26 songs just due to the 3 trills in the middle of the song. The last one in particular is EXTREMELY long. Expert 28 - Brain Fluid Explosion Girl - The entire song is basically trills, though surprisingly they're not too difficult despite the ex28 rating. Just tap along with the rhythm and you'll be fine, the chart is a lot of fun. Expert 28 - Colorful Marine Snow - Also one of the easier ex28s and has a lot of trills especially some that force you to transition quickly to hold notes. Master 26 - ray - Generally one of the easier master charts, but there is a LONG trill near the end. It's pretty slow though so if you can do the expert26 ones this one will probably be fine for you too. Master 26 - alive - Lots of trills, lots of note size changes, just great practice in general. Master 27 - IF - I always thought of this as the mas27 version of alive (well on JP they're actually both mas27 now).
Trills are my weakness and I lose focus easily depending how fast they are. Recently I did finally FC'd expert Melt and master Twilight Melody, felt so good to finally get past the hardest parts for me.
i among many others like timing taps using the sound of my nails/fingers hitting the screen because there is virtually zero delay before hearing your taps as opposed to using the game's hitsounds. such is the case with many vsrgs it's also like the only option you have if using wireless headphones because the latency with them is horrid
"i'm gonna be calling them 'switches' cuz 99% of the time the intended technique is to switch your fingers" meanwhile: me crazily tapping all switches with a single index finger like my life depends on it
From my understanding.. - Thumbs + Phone player ^ i still dont get how that makes us special 😂😂 At the first row, my left thumh flicks the flick note meanwhile I tap the tap note with my right thumb. If u cant flick and tap at the same time like I do, just flick both notes its gonna be okay cause itll still count At the second row, after quickly flicking I tap the note with my left thumb Do the same for 3rd as u did in 1st Tap with right thumb at 4th row or whatever has you comfortable And then flick both notes at the 5th row (assuming u cant tap and flick at the same time) Hope this helps even a bit
Pretty much what I was going to suggest as well. I had a hard time of getting my head wrapped around the thought of alternating flicks from the left and right side, so I ended up just treating both of them as flicks lol It really just comes down to practicing the movements
Here is a suggestion (L=left, R=Right, (F) means its a flick) L L R(F) R L(F) R L L R(F) R L(F) R Basically, you use the hand that doesnt flick to hit the note in the middle
@@laoloserr I don't have problems on tondemo wonders expert on the spam part at the end, but I have problems on dont fight the music which means that my problem is that the middle tap is too far away from the flick and tap part, I also struggle changing thumbs for the middle tap part even if its slow. Because of that I try to use both thumbs on the middle tap part which helped but not much, to this day I still struggle on dont fight the music expert and also six trillion years on the 2 flick on the side and 1 tap note in the middle 3 times part in the chorus like dont fight the music but easier and shorter, idk how to train easily can you give me more tips? (Also I play on sonolus)
my largest problem with spams (i think) is that i can't time them right (i either tap too late or too early on all the notes) or my hands stop listening to me and start tapping at the wrong time or together :(
I think my issue with trills is trying to keep those taps consistent, because I somehow end up tapping both fingers at the same time, which does end up in greats or even goods. Nonetheless, it will come down to practicing. :,)
wait that's crazy coz i've never had much trouble with trills or spam notes (bc i played bandori before psekai and it's very spam note focused), but i have issues with the more particular psekai gimmicks like in lower one's eyes where you have a lot of different sized notes in quick succession
Honestly I LOVE trills… but what really gets me are they are in different places and close to each other kind of like in Hatsune Creation Myth towards the end of all the trills! 😂
I haven't had a problem with trills since I first started playing. Although the ones that alternate note sizes do confuse me a bit, they're just visual tricks; The gameplay is fundamentally the same as if they were the same size. What messes me up big time are flick notes, especially fast ones. I physically just cannot move my finger fast enough on one side when they're being spammed, or alternating between flick and tap notes. It's also not uncommon for me to have a brainfart and end up randomly tapping a flick note.
I feel like the only difficult trills are the really dense ones. think circus panic, marble blue, Sekai and kafu chans errand ensemble, Disappearance of hatsune miku etc. (on master)
Your voice is really calming and this video was really helpful for me to know which songs have switches/spam notes so I can now practice it. Do you think thumbs are enough for most Master chart spam notes??
Hello, thumb player here. I have every song 32 and below full combod as well as ghost rule and lost ones weeping full combod. I have an all perfect on most songs 31 and below(still a work in progress), including tokugawa cup noodle probation and chikyuu saigo no kokuhakuwo. So yes, most of the songs are definitely possible with just thumbs. good luck!
@@kurokiryu260 Could you share some tips, please? I don't see many thumb players doing Master or higher on RUclips, most are index players.. so I don't have any idea how it's possible on thumbs. Do you have any tips you use for certain notes?
@@kurokiryu260 Sorry for late reply. I'm struggling with mostly the skinny sliders that goes in S shape.. and the notes where 3 small notes are really close to each other like this; - - - Or _ _ _ For example in GimmeXGimme Expert I'm struggling to hit 3 notes close to each other and sliders directly after 3 small notes. Any tips on that? I'd like any advice in general
For notes really close to each other, you can hit the notes slightly above the sensor, so put one thumb on the sensor and the other slightly above in order for them to overlap a bit, resulting in an easier time hitting notes that are touching each other, especially if they’re small! For those three notes, I don’t have any specific advice, just try to tap two times with your most confident thumb. For the sliders, you may be moving too early, resulting in a missed note. Im not to familiar with the chart, but if there are green diamonds within the slider, try to move after your thumb touches the diamond. Sorry for the delayed response btw. @@glistica
I can do trills pretty decently until they alternate small notes with wide bars, then I fall apart like a jenga tower
That's the problem
my only tip with wide bars is to try visualising beforehand which one of your right or left finger will hit the bar
it's complicated at first but once you get used to preshot the bar you should be able to get it easily
usually it's my main hand that will hit the bar (if it's a wide one in the middle of the screen) but depending on the configuration it'll be the closest hand to hit it
the way i learned to overcome this was to only focus on the small keys during those patterns. just follow the small keys, but keep the same beat in your taps. almost try and complete ignore the wide keys, as if they're there to distract you
They make me panic 😭
The hardest thing about trills is probably determining the speed of the trill. It's easy to get greats when the notes are packed together.
The most problematic pattern for me is definitely stairs.
Especially the 5 key ones with small notes like this:

so many ways to read and play a chart because of it (kinda like vivid/stasis)
I swear the weird note sizes are the only reason Im bad at master at this point considering i’ve cleared every expert song

If you're comfortable with Tondemo Wonderz Expert I'd recommend picking up Brain Fluid Explosion Girl Expert as the whole song is just a whole big 155 BPM thrill, if you've got enough stamina it's a fairly straightforward and fun chart
For keeping up with thrills/lines (also in other rhythm games this pattern is called a jackhammer) i advise feeling the tempo of your song as a metronome, my technique is kinda insane but bear with me because it has been incredibly helpful: slightry clank your TEETH to the song and try to synchronize clanking with tapping. Weird but helped me a lot
I fced Brain fluid, but cant fc Tondemo. Why this chart so hard?😅😅😅
Brain Fluid Expert has more shuttle runs than trills imo
I HATE TONDEMO WONDERZ AHHHHH BRAIN FLUID EXPLOSION GIRL IS SO MUCH EASIER
dude you're my favorite pjsk youtuber rn, i feel like my brain chemistry has altered SIGNIFICANTLY since i discovered your channel
I call trills "that one harbinger of a good"
I think that a big part is to just enjoy the song.
It's been ruining my Voices Master AP attempts for months.
my tablet gets kind of wonky if I'm charging it while playing. or if i've had the game running for days and haven't force closed it in a while.
Performance issue probably. Some devices straight up just lag with enough inputs and notes happening in succession. One of my devices just doesn't have the power to handle it, and the other has a screen issue where too many inputs in a specific place can confuse it sometimes... It's so annoying...
Typically if you tap too close to ur other hand sometimes it doesn’t register but thats just me
At maimai we call the ladder as train, because it is a bunch of circles and they look connected to each other
i think what may help is listening to the song and seeing other people play it beforehand. i know one of the tips is to ignore the song, but personally, listening to the song and really focusing on it's beats really helps me to play. its a rhythm game after all!
This feels like explaining rhythm in music without actually saying its the rhythm in music and i love it
I was thinking why trills were so easy for me nowadays if they are so hard when I have so much trouble with other relatively easy things, and 3/4 through the video i found my answer lol i forced myself to suffer through tondemo wonderz as one of my first experts lol
I felt that
I grinded night and day to get tondemo as my first 27 FC 😰
big thanks for the song suggestions! i've been having issues with keeping a consistent rhythm on trills and was looking to practice with simpler and slower trills. i'm gonna try playing them soon!
also your channel has been on fire lately! i've been enjoying your content and it's honestly a breath of fresh air, not just with proseka, but with rhythm game youtube in general. keep up the good work 😍
Hibana EXPERT notes help the beginning is so hard to read
Probably the hardest part of the song. I wish I have advice for you, but I guess you just need to practice that part more 😭 (I've FC it like 10 times)
Or....... Just put your fingers between two notes and treat that like a stationary trill. No reading needed 🤣
noooooo the beginning is so fun
Trills are fine until the notes are insanely large or insanely small
saw this video recommended to me despite not being a PRSK player, pretty good video. I hate to be "that guy" but there's already a term for what you refer to as "switches" in this video - they're jacks. People will say I'm being pedantic here, but knowing the common terminology does help a lot if anyone needs to ask a better player (sometimes from another game) for advice. I know a lot of people who've asked me for advice and we have to spend like an hour basically playing telephone with terminology since I don't know what they're trying to say lol
For future reference if people are confused about terminology (can't give examples since the last time I played the game was at JP launch):
trills are basically spot on
stairs are pretty self-explanatory, I think I got confused when I heard ladders in this video and mixed myself up
chords are basically sets of notes you hit at the same time
what people often refer to as "notespam" is either streams or rolls, from my experience - streams are just continuous patterns of notes with no real repetition, but rolls are a repeated sequence that reoccurs a set amount of times, often in what feels like a circular motion. you'll notice the difference pretty quickly once you see the two
as for actual advice on trills, it's a combo of "be vaguely aware of music theory" and understanding your own physical limit as a player. hitting 32nd note trills/jacks at 150 BPM is gonna feel a lot different from 16th note trills/jacks at 180+ BPM, so I would suggest looking up the differences to familiarise yourself and get a feel for the proper timing. a lot of the time, you should probably use your gut feeling and choose whether to listen to either the music or timing, but the answer to "how do you hit faster trills" really is "just go faster" lol. maybe turn down your hi-speed if you're struggling that much and can deal with the change to your timing. tl;dr play game and enjoy game
sorry if this comes off as elitist or something, I think it's pretty important for everyone to be on the right page so they get proper advice lol
Ah thank you for this detailed comment !
Im familiar with chords from playing iidx, but my dance gamer brain is hardwired to call them jumps lol
And as for jacks vs switches
The term I use is dependent on the context of the chart. There are jacks scattered throughout the game, but more commonly (imo) there are more charts that intend for you to switch your fingers. For example

this definition is fair enough! I'm kind of an oldhead who's never really heard of anyone tackle these kinds of patterns differently until watching this video, so it's interesting to see how we approach the methodology lol. my primary game is SDVX, so I think I'm viewing this topic from the perspective of someone who typically plays more traditional rhythm game formats rather than someone more familiar with touchscreen/mobile games - sorry if my comment came off as a bit too much!
I think most people would generally define the example in your comment as something akin to a mini-jack, but I'll try not to be more pedantic than I've already been with this comment ^^;
Jacks are single lane (usually) patterns meant to be executed with one hand. Switches (or trains as they're called in some game communities) are single lane patterns meant to be executed with two hands

I play phigros and trills are kinda fun
So basically when he says “ignore the music” he means “don’t fight the music”
dont mind me pretending to be a skilled player (35clear, 31expertFC, 30masterFC) and still needing this
No matter what level you are, there’s always room for improvement !
But I’m still proud of you either way 🫡
Calling out specific songs to practice specific mechanics on is the only thing I've ever wanted from a rhythm game guide, instant subscribe!
The only part I'm struggling against trills is a flick note inserted in between.
I love nail tapping, sounds so satisfying
Same.
these things are the reason I don't fc some songs, I need to pratice more because it's literally always thrills or just missed flicks, this was a really good video
Also for underwater in Expert, the trills are the music, so it's pretty easy to catch them if you listen to the music (sometimes the trills are less "obvious" but i find this one pretty easy to catch =) )
Tbf i'm very bad at trills, but honestly, practice makes perfect XD I can do the "Twilight Melody" (Master) ones everytime now, and i managed to FC Melt in Expert.
i'll take your advices into consideration tho ! I want to get better and now that i'm playing more and more in Masters, I'll have to master this skill one day, it's inevitable XD
Thank you for your awesome video once again \o/
THE FACT THAT YOU MENTIONED TWILIGHT AND TONDEMO IN ONE VID MADE ME FEEL LIKE (insert emotion)
I already FCed Intense Voice and Tondemo way before I watched this broooooo
The recently added HELP ME, ERINNNN song on JP for the Touhou Collab has quite a few trills as well as flicks!
if anything I have another tip: always calibrate when playing rhythm games!
That underwater song is a 50/50 for me to fc in master
Switches or as I know them as "Jacks" are what I struggle with in rhythm games as the Rhythm Games I play you have to hit them with 1 finger like for example "Osu! Mania/DJMAX".
Another thing I struggle with is in Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future Tone with the 360 Spam in Intense Voice on Extreme. besides these things in my years of playing everything I picked up from just having fun
Jacks are especially tough 😰
There’s a few sprinkled throughout pjsk, but I come from a ddr background and struggle with them time to time lol
I did it once and still haven't been able to do it again 😅
It is perfect practice for these notes though. Great video!
Can you also tackle using more than 2 fingers? Songs like yaminabe with really high difficulty have parts where you have to use (for example) one finger to hold a note and two to flick at the same time
My biggest pet peeve is fick notes, you can be in the flow just tapping then boom you tapped a flick note. Combo gone, just like that
This is so instructive!
I believe in you 🫡
Very interesting.
I also found that fine-tuning an offset setting that works for you really helps for that especially, so you could match that tactile feeling of pressing a button to the music more precisely.
most smartphone rhythm game players turn off hit sounds because when combined with processing latency it can really throw you off
I don't struggle with trills, but the bane of my existence is when you have flick on one side and tap on the other. My small brain can't comprehend it
This is so helpful! Thank you!
"everyone struggles with these" well apparently im no one then because i absolutely love them
One thing you can do with your normal trills is to mostly focus on half of the trill pattern (Left side or right side).
Casually learns how to do it from watching this video once. Now I cannot tell if you are an amazing teacher or if I am just abnormal.
I call single place spams jackhammers
I like trills, except those like at the end of melt.. getting worked up just thinking about how many times I lost fc thanks to them.
but god I hate spam notes though, it's a whole different level 😂
i haven't played pjsk in years
but my man this is a great vid.
I love the recommendations to practise trills, and the differences in the maps.
thank god i thought i was the only person who did the master underwater trill with one hand 😭
Thats a great suggestion ! Thank you for the idea 😄

jacks are when a note appears in one lane more often and usually faster than other lanes ie. notes in all lane 1 in 8th, 16th or more subdivisions
mini jacks are jacks but only 2-3 in a lane
chords are usually 3 simultaneous notes but ive seen people say 2 notes as a chord
quads are 4 simultaneous notes
jumps are 2 notes and the name comes fron ddr as you jump to hit 2 notes at same time
jump trills are essentially what this video is about execept each hand is is using 2 fingers ie. index and middle on right and left hand
streams are spin off fron trills and if playing with 2 fingers usually means your moving your fingers otherwise for 4 fingers this is notes spaced out in 4 lanes
rolls are used more often then stairs but its essentially same thing going from one lane to the other
jump streams combine jumps and streams and is a standard in 4 key pattern
hand streams combine streams and hands which involve 3 simultaneous notes and can often have minijacks in them
chord jacks combine chords and jacks for the ultimate stamina pattern
I think that is all of the patterns but I probably forgot some.
somehow found this thru recs, and its a great video for sure. love both explanation and song practice suggestion. funnily enough tho bcs of my old phone where theres a thin line that wont register touches, making screencross slides impossible, ladder spam becomes my first more advanced skill that i learn, alongside freeway flicking (learned all this at Bandori, way before ProSekai is out)

I feel like Snow Mix could be a good song to practice with too especially for tiny note trills which are especially annoying, they always ruin my full combo
Since I've figured out trills, they've become a note type I love so much (along with flick spams lmao)
Not me having withdrawals watching a project sekai video while the game is under maintenance 💀
In most rhythm games, a line of notes we call them jacks an example of this is in SDVX

as a more experienced rhythm game player, this is a pretty great video all things considered! there's just one thing I'd like to point out; another common term for those vertical one lane notes are 'jacks' or 'jackhammers' (the former being used most often)
(just wanted to suggest that as you technically don't have to alternate those kinds of patterns lol)
Damn, I should have checked the comments before I commented about this. Yes, that's the standard them used across most PC rhythm games.

Another good song, if you're really new to it, would be Happy Halloween. There's quite a few gallops, as well as 3 step ladders that can be helpful if you want practice
This is why top players sound like they’re beating their device into submission 2:59
i struggled with trills at first, but with playing rhythm games alot i began to memorize some of the song charts, pretended to play on random objects and treated it like playing drums. the most difficult notes though are jack notes; two notes that come subsequently that are designed to be played with two fingers, not a double tap of one finger.
Also, the single lane patterns you call switches are usually called trains in the Arcaea community, because the connected notes look like train rails or something i guess. i think thats just neat to know
Trains is def a clever term to use lol
And sorry if I wasnt clear in the video !
Thank you finally someone who explains it!!!
I'm fine with trills for a couple or seconds but then it gets trippy
in Arcaea I call switches "sky note trains" or just trains. Grievous Lady future chart is notorious for train patterns, but they are easy once you get the hang of it. Most 16th note patterns i just call streams
I think my issue with trills is that if it goes for long enough my brain starts to have doubts about tapping rhythm and i break the combo
Master 27 - IF - I always thought of this as the mas27 version of alive (well on JP they're actually both mas27 now).
my thumb alway got cramped after dealing with this
Trills are my weakness and I lose focus easily depending how fast they are. Recently I did finally FC'd expert Melt and master Twilight Melody, felt so good to finally get past the hardest parts for me.
The trills are what kills a lot of FCs on melt (from what people have told me)
So congrats on that !!
i among many others like timing taps using the sound of my nails/fingers hitting the screen because there is virtually zero delay before hearing your taps as opposed to using the game's hitsounds. such is the case with many vsrgs
it's also like the only option you have if using wireless headphones because the latency with them is horrid
"i'm gonna be calling them 'switches' cuz 99% of the time the intended technique is to switch your fingers"
meanwhile: me crazily tapping all switches with a single index finger like my life depends on it

At the first row, my left thumh flicks the flick note meanwhile I tap the tap note with my right thumb. If u cant flick and tap at the same time like I do, just flick both notes its gonna be okay cause itll still count
At the second row, after quickly flicking I tap the note with my left thumb
Do the same for 3rd as u did in 1st
Tap with right thumb at 4th row or whatever has you comfortable
And then flick both notes at the 5th row (assuming u cant tap and flick at the same time)
Hope this helps even a bit

(Also I play on sonolus)
im getting better at trills and spams but my brain still short circuits when the trill is a mix of big and small notes…
my largest problem with spams (i think) is that i can't time them right (i either tap too late or too early on all the notes) or my hands stop listening to me and start tapping at the wrong time or together :(
I think my issue with trills is trying to keep those taps consistent, because I somehow end up tapping both fingers at the same time, which does end up in greats or even goods. Nonetheless, it will come down to practicing. :,)
This is when i realized that putting my hours just to FC Spasmodic IN15 in Phigros didn't go to waste
wait that's crazy coz i've never had much trouble with trills or spam notes (bc i played bandori before psekai and it's very spam note focused), but i have issues with the more particular psekai gimmicks like in lower one's eyes where you have a lot of different sized notes in quick succession
Honestly I LOVE trills… but what really gets me are they are in different places and close to each other kind of like in Hatsune Creation Myth towards the end of all the trills! 😂
i was wondering when blue star was going to be mentioned because it's one of the hardest trills I've done for some reason
0:45 arent those called jacks?
Do you have any tips you use for certain notes?
yeah, do you have any patterns you are struggling with in particular? or do you just want advice in general?
@@kurokiryu260 Sorry for late reply. I'm struggling with mostly the skinny sliders that goes in S shape.. and the notes where 3 small notes are really close to each other like this;

For example in GimmeXGimme Expert I'm struggling to hit 3 notes close to each other and sliders directly after 3 small notes.
@@glistica
