Ever heard of the Russian Sleep Experiment? A scientific undertaking organized by the Soviet military in the late 1940s, this experiment attempted to test the effectiveness of a new chemical gas that could stop people from falling asleep. Tested on a group of 5 Russian political prisoners, the goal of the experiment was to keep the test subjects awake for a month straight. However, the experiment was aborted in a morbidly spectacular fashion after just 15 days. But why did the Russian Sleep Experiment fail?

When I had a case of severe depression the longest I went without sleep was 2 1/2 months. I don’t wish that on my worst enemy. 😔.FYI I did have several moments when I blacked out and don’t remember vast moments in time. So if is possible that no matter how much you try your body will sneak in some sleep once in awhile. 👀

But the difference between that and Russian experiment is the fact that they were using a toxic gas to keep their subjects awake so I'm sure the effects would be alot different from someone who stays awake on their own volition

If a person is prevented from sleeping, he will have extremly heavy hallucinations and eventually turn violent. someone i know was high on coke for almost 5 days continously without sleeping. he had very vivid hallucinations and acted extremly irrational. he even tried to stab a demon he was hallucinating. i also like the assumption, that humans prevent themselves from turning into monsters by their ability to sleep, which is literally the truth.
