It seems that the comic book trope of "crazy makes the hero skillful/powerful enough to defeat literally everyone" has been around for a while now.

People tend to forget in this storyline Thor gets the Powerf Gem also from Drax. Even with the power gem he was only able to give Thanos a nosebleed.

Yeah like Drax, Thor didn't know how to use it very well. At best he could use it to slowly increase his power or in desperation reverse the psychic/karmic attack used on him once. As opposed to Thanos who is a master and beat the entire Marvel roster of heroes assembled against him with the power gem alone.
The hammer showed silver surfer his place, a silver surfer that was clearly holding back the entire fight while Thor was not 🫡👑

Warrior madness Thor is no joke. He bloodied Thanos and was enough trouble to cause him to go get a stasis gun rather than subdue him physically. Thor has always been a tough match for Surfer, as Mjolnirs energy absorption limits Surfers greatest offensive tool.
He beat Odin too (in the mind battle), but Odin already had a long fight with thanos beforehand.

Thor had the Power Gem and was only able to bloody Thanos’s nose. And Thanos shot him with the stasis rifle. And that was only going to hold Thor for a little while until they got to Asgard.

if it was the comics i would say maaaaaaaaybe. probably even. but to do it without nuking everyone inside? considerably harder. Movie Thor? Probably NOT. going by the first two movies at least, where they make QUITE clear that the Asgardians are NOT dieties...just a REALLY advanced alien race with science that SEEMS like magic. by the time Waititi took over that kinda went out the window...but even then...same problem. What would have been HILARIOUS is if they DID send in Thor..and the hex promptly turned him into Sigurd Jarlsson, a Norwiegan construction worker....which is an identity that Thor actually briefly used in the comics.
The short clear answer is: It depends on who's writing the story. LOL
@@alexsolomon8127The first two movies may not have considered the Asgardians as actual Gods, but they were still quite impressive.
Thor The Dark World shows, that when Malekith used the Aether to warp everything into darkness at the end of the movie, Thor could still move into the area where Malekith was and the reality warping had no effect on him whatsoever. The infinity stones are a lot more powerful, so if we consider that then the hex shouldn't be able to affect Thor.
The same movie also shows that Thor can destroy the Aether with his lightning. The Aether did reform again due to Malekith having perfect control over it (like he didn't even need any gauntlets or artifacts to use its power), but it's still impressive imo. The explosion that took place when Thor blew it up looks very identical to the one that took place in Wakanda when Wanda destroyed the Mind Stone, so that implies that Thor did destroy it, but only temporarily as Malekith could reform it again.
@@romansionis2470 in the movies the various stones actually have various states and individual rules...the Aether IS one of the stones..Reality, i think. it's mentioned in the movie it's preferred state is a liquid. and it didn't affect thor becasue i don't believe it was ever being DIRECTED at him. But to put it another way..when did Thor tank a direct hit from ANY of the stones?
I hated how they always made surfer suffer from worf syndrome. I'm glad he's dead now so they can't do him dirty anymore just to make someone "more dangerous"
Even Thor has a limit to how much shit he can take from Galactus and his minions.

Hard to see Thor beating Surfer (save for when he was Earthbound). Watching a few of these fights reminds me how unsatisfying a lot of these fights were,: always a gimmick to ensure there's no real winner.
I had this comic though I don't remember the scrap.
Normally, a basic Thor is on par with the surfer head on since his inception, but Thor’s very slowly growing stronger here.

My head canon for that was that this Thor really was suffering from madness. His spirit was actually found chained inside himself later in the arc, so I think Mjolnir sensed that it was a passing madness, not a change of character.

For those who haven't read the entire arc, here's the spoiler: Only Thanos was able to stop Thor, and that using a weapon, as he was physically unable to do so. Thor defeated Bill, the Surfer, Doctor Strange and the entire Infinity Guard, including Adam Warlock
thor beat the brakes off of Adam warlock in his first appearance as HIM. he kidnapped lady sif and thor went warrior madness beating warlock so bad he had to flee in his cocoon. thor also stomped him, silver surfer and dr strange in this very fight. just immediately after this battle with silver surfer 😂😂

I loved the Blood and Thunder storyline! The battle between Odin and Thanos was good!
Why would the Surfer keep mixing it up with Thor hand-to-hand? He's always been a ranged fighter, using blasts of energy, and relying on his speed and maneuverability to avoid attacks. This fight choreography is rather lame.

Silver Surfer notes the danger of staying in melee range with Thor earlier, and waits the fight out until his board comes back so he can be mobile again....and rushes straight into a hammer swing. Thor let go of his hammer, why on Earth would you ever go near him ? Blast him ! Lol. Maybe someday I'll remake this fight.
Anything can happen when the writers need it for the story. Countless times in comic history a character's power level gets misrepresented (up or down) for the sake of the story, which is one of the main reasons after enough time a retcon is needed.

in real life a person can up his "power level" by getting angry as a martial artist i can face an oppenant thats my equal and we can tie in a sparring matches a hundred times and everyone thinks us equals but the one time i faced him after an insult that REALLY made me very angry i took him apart like i was facing a 2yr old he never even got one solid hit on me. This is the whole concept of the Berserker warrior, and also the orgins of the werewolf legend, the story of Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde and the orgion of the Hulk., hey even John Wick, their is a monster that hides inside ALL of us, and you never want to face the person that lets the monster out.

I've been reading comics since I was in my teens. And anyone who knows comics. Knows that Thor is not in the Surfer's class. No way
Their fights prove otherwise. Hell even Loki(Thor’s biggest hater at the time) needed to amp Surfer to fight Thor as he believed Surfer wasn’t a match for him.
If you were actually a reader of comics you’d know that surfer and Thor stalemated more than once, surfer has won twice to my memory, one while he was amped by Loki, and another when he cheap shot Thor. Thor has also damaged galactus.

Atum is the strongest half brother Thor has per his mother.
All of those pretend gods are NOTHING to Galactus in true Marvel power structure.
Galactus is the equity of Marvel and Infinity in each universe. That's why Franklin Richard's favors him.
Galactus's strongest herald is Surfer. He has power absorbing abilities and has not power limit. He has no speed limit. He is immortal and invulnerable without weapons. He is worthy. He later gets the quantum bands in Guardians of the Galaxy 25&26. The Watcher has stated he has no real equal. The writers always nerf him.
His powers per Stan Lee stand about the rest but the writers favor Thor.
Thor's power set is all magic based. He brother would destroy him easy. His mother stated this. Atum is beyond defeat for Thor.
Silver Surfer defeated two of Galactus' equals alone using the cosmic crunch in Conquest. These two guys were beyond understood power.
Thor is overrated. He's not even Zeus' equal in religion let alone comics.

Silver Surfer is a Cosmic Being! Not a guy who dies after 5000 years.
Thor breathes air. He has to eat. He has a death date like his father and grandfather and he is less than them per their rule of magical passdown. His mother has stated this outright.
Silver Surfer is not on the level of these beings. Neither is Thanos or his brother.
Liking a character doesn't change the rules. Thor is overrated.

Thor is the last guy to be wenked, he's not very popular. According to Marvel, Beta Ray Bill and Adam Warlock are inferior to Thor. But Surfer is indeed Thor's equal.

Surfer has always been weak to Thor. Mjolnir is perfect for taking down the herald. Same as how Superman would be weak to Surfer as the power cosmic would allow him to drain Superman's solar energy or even convert it to red sun energy, or worse yet at a glance he could see the kryptonite weakness and just make himself kryptonite based. Some characters are just strong to others, and it doesn't really mean they are above or below each other.

@@TaroneSmithnot exactly, while superman was definitely a bit tired, he has been in much tougher fights than Thor, superman was also jumped by a heavily amped iron man and Hercules (Thor’s equal) right after, along with several other heroes, and he still had NO visible damage, apart from being knocked out for a short time. Herc’s mace was outright damaged and chipped while he was attacking superman.

Superman once stated that icon gave him the hardest punch ever, yet icon outright stated in a previous fight that superman was his “physical superior”. In rebirth, superman said that damage gave him the hardest punch ever, so by your logic, damage > base Thor.
Around the time of jla/avengers there was a fight between superman and darkseid, and despite superman exclaiming that today he’s stronger than darkseid, he clearly had more trouble and fought him longer than Thor, with the suit on his torso almost completely ripped off.

Not only is there no longer a,comicbook code, there is no longer any faithfulness to decades long established canon. Objectively though, generally any herald of galactus has the power level to hang with any omega level superhero on earth. Warrior madness included the,surfer can augment his strength to match Thor and any lightning based attacks is hardly going to affect the,surfer who can manipulate cosmic energy. Plus.here been around maybe even longer than Thor so any attack goldilocks has for him wo in or be expe,Ted and countered easily.
I would agree with you… except for the fact it’s consistently established that Thor is stronger than Surfer. In almost all of their fights Thor wins in the end. Hell even Loki himself claimed Surfer was no match for Thor’s power.
