    Wow, glad I saw this video. I have had the rotary on the floor in a box for weeks now without setting it up. Without this video I would have been quite frustrated. Thanks for the great instructions!! I hope you do more videos on the LC-40...

      I was also quite frustrated when I first got the rotary until I got it all set up, so glad I was able to help you out!
      Is there any specific video you'd like to see on the LC-40? I'm open to suggestions!

    just got my rotary in the mail yesterday. I have a Ortur Laser Master 2 Pro, and the NEJE MAX 3. I'm really impressed with the assembly and wiring setup compared to the other lasers, very clean. will do the rotary today so really appreciate the info in this video.

    I love my LC40.... I've had it for a few months. Purchased air-assist and rotary with my LC40 on day zero. Just now getting to mess with the rotary. I haven't started yet (hence watching this video).
    I will say while this work-around is hopefully it is easy as you say, it seems very inconvenient and kind of against the philosophy that SainsSmart seems to have been aiming for with the design of the LC40 (even if it is a simple firmware flash.)
    SainSmart seemed to be trying to sell something sleek and easy to work with, given the use of USB-C connectors and using a purpose designed/manufactured aluminum frame instead of the more traditionally used aluminum extrusion.
    It seems like they cut a corner with the firmware/software side... First having to flash firmware to switch between smartphone and lightburn usage on PC, and now this flash to go between rotary and traditional X/Y. I'm not an engineer by any means but it seems like this could've approached in an easier way for the end-user, and otherwise is a fly in the ointment so-to-speak.
    While certainly not an issue for the tech minded, this would be a non-starter for a lot of people. Disappointing considering the rotary is a very easy to plug in USB cable and not unplugging and swapping stepper motor cables like you have to do with some units.
    P.S. Merry Christmas and Thank you for the video BTW, I will admit this would have taken so much longer to have figured out had you not made this video.

      @CreatedWorkshop  11 месяцев назад

      Yeah, I totally agree that they cut corners to do it this way (and also made it harder on themselves having to build in special USB connectors, make a custom rotary, etc.) It's not the best system by any means. I'm glad you found the video though!
      I no longer have the LC-40, but if you follow www.youtube.com/@mcfarlandcustoms he has some videos getting ready to come out on it, like an air assist explainer and how much it does/doesn't help with cutting.

    I need you to show me how to flash the firm wear for the rotary and do you unzip the files once you download them and what would the settings be to get back to light burn because I coulnt get mine to work and they sent me a new board that was already flashed.

    Great video Patrick. I started out very frustrated but your video answered a lot of my questions. Do you mind if I ask you something regarding Lightburn and the LC-40? I was running LB on my Sain Smart 3018 PROVer. I set the device name to just GRBL. Now I am running the LC-40 with LB and named the Device GRBL LC-40 but at 100% power it's not cutting think cardboard. I did some practice cuts with the Laser_ble software that came with the LC-40 and it cut through the cardboard at 30% power and 30% feed. I'm assuming there are some parameters in the GCode that need changing. Would you know what they are? Then once I change back to my GRBL device for the 3018 PROVer, will the original settings be there or will I have to change them back as well? Thank you.

      @CreatedWorkshop  Год назад

      Hey there! It should keep device-specific settings related to each unique device within Lightburn, I believe, so it should change things back as needed. I'm not sure what settings you would have to change on for the LC40 though. What speed were you trying to cut at for 100% power?

    So, I am a bit confused. If the grbl firmware used for the rotary can be used in both rotary and laser mode by inputting those commands, why bother reflashing back to the grbl version that does not support the rotary. Or did you mean that you mean you reflashed it back to the stock firmware so you can use the mobile app.

    • @CreatedWorkshop
      @CreatedWorkshop  Год назад

      You have to reflash back to the stock firmware to use the mobile app. Flashing the rotary firmware disables the Y stepper so you'll have to reflash in order to use it normally again.

    Hi Patrick great video I received my LC40 3 days ago it was the new updated 10w, it assembled easily. I use lightburn with my xtool, the LC40 machine worked with the app when tested but when I moved the y axis with the machine switched of but plugged in the red light onto of the laser unit would come on and the fan would go round, strange for that to happen. I then tried to flash the firmware on my pc it would not connect it came up with connection Erra. Tried on 3 different pc still the same I did manage to flash with the phone. This way though you cannot go back, I setup lightburn I installed the LC40 but when I tried to move the y axis I had a bad grinding noise from both stepper motors. I switched the machine off I noticed that the left-hand y axis linear rail had quite a lot of sideways play and the right hand was ok. I am very disappointed with this I have emailed Sainsmart 3 times for the unit to be returned and exchanged but as yet I have not had an answer. It is packed up now ready for shipping.
    I just think I have been unlucky as it is a well-made machine for the money, sorry for going on somewhat just hope this is not a fault with the new 10w machines.

      Hey there! I'm so sorry it's taken me so long to respond to this comment, I am just now catching up on them!
      I'm sorry to hear all the problems you've had with your unit, I hope by now it's all resolved. There are some tricks to flashing the firmware that I mention in the video, and hopefully that can help you in the future if you still have the LC40. For the fan spinning, that's normal as moving the stepper motors they act as small generators making a bit of electricity which can then turn the fan or light up the LED.

    why not use port A Axis? Need to use Y Axis?

    • @CreatedWorkshop
      @CreatedWorkshop  8 месяцев назад

      That's how SainSmart designed the laser to function. Most lasers actually use the Y axis though and leave X live as the head only has to move left to right. More professional applications have an additional axis that they use so you can leave the whole gantry available, but on cheaper ones like this they just piggy back off the Y

  • @zk_6312
    @zk_6312 Год назад

    I just found out today the rotary you have to load special firmware and then if you need to go back to the regular laser you have to load the original grbl firmware. You could be doing this several times a day. This is a really bad design and I am not impressed with their programmers. All they had to do was write their firmware so you send some special commands to enable the rotary and some other commands to disable it. This way you would only need one piece of firmware. I suppose though it could have made the firmware too large for the controller board they are using and rather than redesign the controller board they decided to have two firmware files.. Annoying though. I like the laser mostly, and I was going to get the rotary, but now I am not so sure. I guess I should have done some more research before buying this one.
    I wonder if you could this to just use the original grbl firmware and just breakout the y cable the way alot of laser engravers are.

    • @CreatedWorkshop
      @CreatedWorkshop  Год назад +1

      While I don't have a rotary to test that with, I do think you could probably break out the Y cable and use it that way.

    • @zk_6312
      @zk_6312 Год назад

      @@CreatedWorkshop Yea, I kind was wondering if that was possible though I would probably have to disconnect both y steppers.
