Got one of these (the 10W version) for Christmas. Just purchased your STL files on Etsy. I build an enclosure for mine and added an exhaust fan with a portable filter that the exhaust hooks up to. Thanks for the video. Very helpful!
I just checked on the availability of a 10 w laser. It is now available for 200.00 or the unit can be ordered with the 10w laser for around 200.00 more than the cost of the 5.5w unit. I am waiting on my LC-40 to be delivered in the next day or so and was pleased to come across your review. It looks like the 5.5w laser will meet my immediate needs. The one thing that might push me to getting the 10w laser is the finer laser dot, but we shall see how it does. Thanks for the review. Well done.
The 5.5 watt laser should have a finer dot size then the 10W. A 10W laser is essentially just 2 different 5W lasers pointed at the same spot so it will always be larger. However you are really talking about fractions of a mm so I doubt you would be able to tell the difference most of the time. The reason to go higher watts is usually for cutting strength or speed.
Great Video.....How did you find the Linear rails over wheels.....TIP...when doing glass if painted with off white ( like the tiles) the result will be black...if painted black you will get white (frosted look)

Really helpful video. Thanks! Do you know of a video that can help me "clear flashing" (whatever that means) from my iPhone 13, so I can actually print something from it? Thanks, MJ
Thank you very much for this very informative review. I only have one question: You cut a 2 mm wooden plate in the video. What is the maximum thickness of wood that the machine can cut? I would be very grateful for a short answer as I am looking for a machine that can cut 3 mm of wood. Thanks in advance.
I have bought the Genmitsu jinsoku LC-40 engraver/ cutter, need some help. What settings do I use for cutting ? I have tried different setting but can't seem to cut....HELP please
Hey I have a question when your flashed the printer to use light burn did you ever get a long error code and the a box pop up saying device not found? I get one but I check my device manager and see the c340 port so idk what I’m doing wrong
It was a while ago that I did this but I don't remember ever running into issues. I would highly suggest joining their Facebook group to see if anyone else is running into similar issues.
@@BusterBeagle3D so I reached out to there support team and the replied pretty fast and told me the issue and worked like a charm. So if anyone ever has the same issue as me if you can’t flash the new firmware and comes up saying a long error code and then pops up saying no device it’s because you have more than one port running like me I had the c340 and a communication com port running and that was the issue I had to disable the communication port that was running flash the new software just like there video says and worked just like it should then I just simply just activated the port I disabled to do the update the done.
@@BusterBeagle3D yes sir now I’m burning my grid and got my feet all printed and screeed down but for some reason when I put my feet on my board one was little off cuz when homing the lazer it got all crazy started clicking so I tried it with out the feet and worked good haha so I adjusted them and got it thanks for good tips.
The D1 is more powerful and has a larger work area but I do love the cable management and the fact that this machine comes with limit switches. That is one area the D1 is lacking which is pretty important to how I like to work. It's also opensource so you can use things like LaserGRBL if you wanted to with the LC-40. Both at the end of the day are nice machines.
Thanks for Great review, I went out purchased this device after watching. Then went and Purchased grid and leg’s Etsy. I got the legs to cut after some trials. Now I can not get grid to print fro some reason it’s seems like the limit switch are not working. In light burn when I look at position after clicking home it’s shows -592.50 for x and y. Please help !!!
Thanks for the great review, stl for the feet, and the grid. Unfortunately I had some difficulty burning the grid. It kept saying that the design would send the unit out of the operating area. I started with the default 375x395 work area. Then switched to 390x400. I even entered 400x400. Couldn't get it to burn the whole design. EDIT: Turns out I had the soft limits set. I am very new to this game. Thanks for the quick fix @Buster Beagle 3D :)
Hello. Did you actually burn the design or didn’t try because it was out of the work area? I will check the file again when I get home to check to see if I see anything. I wonder if perhaps there is a stray line somewhere outside of the work area that I somehow missed. If you zoom out and drag select the area outside the grid I wonder if it catches anything.
I checked the file and it should be ok. You might be getting that notification since the outer ring is right on the edge of the workable area. You should be able to ignore that message and burn the file normally.
@@BusterBeagle3D I wish. It only burns part of the file before quitting. So I have a partial grid. Bottom left grid, the circles, and almost all the numbers but it can't quite reach the full range of the grids and numbers so when it gets that far, it just stops.
@@Mirrikat Hello. I think I might know what is happening here. It seems that you may have Soft Limits enabled in your GRBL settings. If you click on Edit>Machine Settings>Homing and Limits> and turn Soft Limits ($20) to the off position. You can then go to to your Cut/Layers and turn off the Output for C00 and C01 if you just need to burn the numbers.
Great video and as a consequence I have now purchased one! I'm trying to get your Lightburn grid file to work properly and everytime I open it the numbers are all mirrored, well not quite all, but some. Any ideas? Also my home position always seems to be the bottom left rather than top left? Thanks.
Hello. The LC-40 should home in the front left corner. That is where the limit switches make contact. When you first setup that machine you should set the Origin to the front left corner. Then the grid file will come in correctly. You can click on Devices , select your machine, and then click Edit. You should be able to change the origin to the front left.
I have one of these and I like it for the most part. It cuts better than I thought it would for a 5w laser though I have the 5w fac laser module. I was able to cut through .25 inch or 6mm bass wood. I don't like the controls in the rear, but I can deal with that. Another thing I don't like is that the X axis is not square to the frame. Still, it is decent laser for the price.
I'm not sure that any diode laser can cut clear transparent acrylic. If it the acrylic is mostly colored and opaque it might but that's typically a job for a co2 laser.
Thank you for this video, great work. I bought your files on etsy but I´m not able to laser it. On the top area my LC-40 is not able to engrave it. It exceeds the limits and makes noises connected with loses of footsteps. My work area is set to 400x400 like it should be but I dont know what I do wrong here. X-Axis works out fine. Maybe someone know a solution for this? Point of origin is bottom left.
If you check out the description on Etsy it mentions that you have to turn off you soft limits in the GRBL settings. You can do it in either Lightburn or LaserGRBL.
