    Hi James. I brought this machine of the back of your review. I got the 10w version with the roller attachment. I LOVE IT! I havent tried the roller yet but have done lots of cool stuff on slate and wood of different types. I am also a woodturner and use the laser to engrave the base of all my pieces with my brand and the wood type. Things I havent tried yet is engraving non-anodised or painted metals or acrylics and I would really like to see some tutorials from you on this when you have the time. Cheers.

    Hi James, A really fantastic video, very well explained, especially the assembly and set up with the phone. I live in the UK and would like to purchase this machine but they are out of stock at the moment so in the mean time I have probably watched every video on RUclips about the Jinsoku LC-40 and yours has been by far the most informative. Just one little thing that you might want to look at is there are a lot of errors (spelling etc) in your subtitles which are an excellent addition but might cause some confusion to those that rely on them. Thanks for an excellent channel. Paul

    James, I did some looking into the GRBL settings on my LC-40 and noticed the max for all three axis’s is set to 5000. This may be why your tests didn’t show much difference above that. It’s a bit strange that the machine would be set there instead of 10200! Any thoughts on this? BTW I changed mine to 8000, the 80% rule and it flat out flys now!

    Hi James, I've been running the LC-40 with the 10w laser from the past 6 months and found it to be a really good machine, but do you know whether it can take a more powerful laser? If it can, would you recommend anything.

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  Год назад +1

      Most lasers over 10w require their own power supply and the LC 40 uses fancy cables so you would need to tinker with the wiring to make it work. You would also need to find a way to mount it because more powerful lasers are typically larger. So yes you could get it to work but would require some tinkering

I’ve picked up that they need to protect from 455nm and be from a “reliable manufacturer” (whoever they are!). Thank you.

    @James : great video as always. Just talked to sainsmart the other day and they confirmed a 10w laser upgrade for the LC40.
    Did you got rid of the crooked circles with tensioning the belts in the end? Because I’ve the same problem and already did the tensioning, checked alignment, lubed the rails - no clue why that is or is that a thing with belts? My normal 3018 pro diy laser can engrave so detailed. Not as fast obviously but at least super accurate compared to the lc40.

    I bought this laser a while ago and I just getting around to using it now that the weather is warmer. I like it though there are some things I don't like. It is hard to attach the X stepper cable. When I first tried this laser it would only go in the Y direction. I had to take it apart and reattach the X cable. It works now. They could have made it easier to tighten the belts as the X belt on my machine is a bit loose though it still seems to work okay.
    You said that air assist could be attached to the 5w module with passive air assist. I would be interested in knowing how to do this.

Are there any points from that video I could use here? Your review along with a few others convinced me this should be my next machine. How would you describe the stiffness of these "new" type frame compared to the old and simple extrusions used e.g on 3018?
    The beams are open on one side which typically is very poor on twist resistant.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi James, I’ve connected up the LC40 laser but it won’t connect to Lightburn or LaserGrbl either. I’m connected to Com port 5 (tried multiple com ports and still nothing) and when connected laptop makes the connection sound. I’ve tried putting a manual laser in and adding the bed area dimensions in and still nothing. The LC40 app works and so does Sainsmart Engraving software so I know the laser works including the usb lead. I’ve loaded and reloaded the driver also but still won’t connect or even see the laser.
    Any ideas?

      I have an interesting problem with the software flashing of the LC-40. I can’t flash the upgrade as the updated tool throws an IO Exception error and no device found message. This is frustrating as the LC-40 is connected and communicating with the PC, I can operate the LC-40 with the pre installed software so it must be connected.

    James, as always a great video. Its been a while and I need to watch it again soon, but in the mean time, what have you found the max speed to be for the LC-40? Much of Genmitsu's documentation states the speeds in %, I guess because of the mobile app, but I've never found what that max speed is to better tweak settings for Lightburn using mm/min or mm/s. Any thoughts?

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  2 года назад +1

      Thanks Jeff, very kind. To be honest. I've not really pushed it to a maximum speed because the laser does very little when travelling that fast. I believe they are meant to go upto about 20,000mm/min if my memory serves me correctly. Its one of the advantages of using the 32bit controller

    • @JeffBenedict
      @JeffBenedict 2 года назад +1

      James, Thanks for the reply. So as I wait to hear what Sainsmart Support says, from my inquiry to them, I guess, to be safe, if I stick with 5000 being 100% and work my way down from there, I should be safe. For Now.

      @@JeffBenedict you could always do a powerscale test, but instead of small increments go up 1000mm/min per line or even 2000 and start at 5000. You'll soon see at what point it doesn't get any faster by the graduation change

    • @JamesDeanDesigns

      Yes, so that is the main machine I use for laser. I installed some amber orange persepx sheets a few weeks ago. Whilst this is not technically laser shield, it does black out a lot of the harmful light for when I am generally running the laser and working in the workshop - essentially meaning I do not have to wear the laser glasses all of the time.

    Why did they put the controls and inter-connect ports (other than the power connection) in the back?? When you want to put this on your workbench you either have to reach over it, or move it to get to them. Kind of like putting your car ignition switch in the back seat! Not everyone has a "walkaround" bench, not to mention after you put it in an enclosure and have to deal with that too. Not much thought in the design there, in my opinion Just my $.02.

    How did you find the linear rail system over wheels

    • @JamesDeanDesigns
      @JamesDeanDesigns  2 года назад +1

      I find it quite smooth given they are probably low end linear rails and bearings. One thing I hate is when you get a new machine with wheels, they always have flat spots from where they have been sitting during storage and transport so you get little bumps when they run. Having the linear rails eliminates that straight away
