I watched this just out of curiosity ...then 1/2 way through it, I realized this very method will be ideal for garden signs my wife wants made. Thanks!!
If you have a “multi function printer” with a flatbed scanner, I’ve found it’s a great way to accurately scan in a 2D item like a tags. No concerns about not having the camera dead level either.
Just found your channel and am loving it. Haven’t bought gear yet and trying to decide what to get and if I want to start with cnc or laser. This info is a huge help. Thanks from Canada
Excellent video James! I ordered several items from your description.. I had an idea.. One of the pictures in the tags showed the dimensions of the tag.. I intend to load it in lightburn.. trace it.. and use that as template. I haven't tried it yet.. But I'm hopeful that it will work.. Thanks for all you do!
This is fantastic. As a soccer coach I have been wanting to do this for players with their number and name on one side and then their number and team name on the other side. Thanks for walking through LightBurn (which I also own and use for my Ortur Laser) as this will make it very easy to get this process completed in short order. Thanks again for sharing this info.
Would you consider doing a tutorial on cutting flat carbon sheet from dxf please. Best most accurate softwares for cam set ups. Right up to cut out please. I’ve some fairly good results but I have found limitations with mesh cam and fusion is well way more then I need. As an fpv hobbyist looking for some tips and guidance please.I’ve used mesh cam which will not always see every detail even with 1mm but loaded and tolerance Reduced to make it look at model for longer. I used easel to send to machine and had some really Nice results. I now need more Accuracy
It is a material I have not used so I wouldn't be comfortable doing a tutorial at this stage but may be in the future. Accuracy comes in 2 parts, one is the software and the other is the calibration and play of your machine. If things are not machining accurately, they I would put my money on the machine needing to be calibrated instead of the software so it might be worth looking down that route.
I know this isn’t related to this video specifically, but could you do a video on the 4th axis rotary motor on the 3018 pro? I would really appreciate it.
hi james I have a masuter 4040. are there any limitations to depth of cut with this machine.? i have the standard spindle, not the upgraded 300watt spindle. Your advice would be appreciated. cheers mate
I was trying to do this initially off camera but wasn't getting good results. I think because because edges of the tags are slightly radiused and perhaps the way I was photographing, but yes the trace function could work well and save time
You mentioned unlocking the ratio to input amazons dimensions but really those shouldn’t be trusted at all. You already measured the width you should measure the height also and use the actual measured dimensions for your template. I’ve been caught in the trap of trusting listing dimensions before and had to scrap parts because of poor dimensioning. Just a tip for everyone watching
Really enjoy your seamless, organized, detailed, thorough teaching style. the tempo is always in mind for your targeted audience. well done

Glad it's helped 👍
You are an amazing teacher. Thanks for putting so much efforts in your tutorials.
Thank you
Another great video. (And another donation from me!) Best wishes from Vancouver Island, Colin. 😊
Nice video as usual, thanks for showing how to do things to make jobs easier.
This is your best video! 100%
As always James Great video and lots of great tips. THANK YOU.
My pleasure!
Great tutorial and video! Very detailed and how saving your files is always a good idea! Great idea for the template to place the tags within.
Thank you :)

Thank you very much for the support 👍
Great teacher. Thanks
Thank you 🙏
Use a scanner.. perfect size Everytime!
just saying, my diy cheapo laser homes to top right, origin is still bottom left, its amazingly easy to set up
You could also put the key chain on a scanner, next to a ruler! Seems like an easier solution than using a phone.
That is an option but to be honest, I don't know anyone who has a scanner any more.
@@JamesDeanDesigns I think many people still have a 3-in-1 device printer-copier-scanner

If you brighten it up like you did you could simple use image trace.
I was trying to do this initially off camera but wasn't getting good results. I think because because edges of the tags are slightly radiused and perhaps the way I was photographing, but yes the trace function could work well and save time
If you take the photo from further away and then zoom in post production itll minimize the effect the angle has
Good advice 👍
I Love British Humor!!! Fact is, that I see more than enough-overcomplicated "tutorials" to make the job "easier"... No "like" this time!
thanks for the video! one question totally something different are you gonna do other videos about the masuter pro?
Yes. Just need some time to do some testing with it first 👍
Check your affiliate links, James, they are no longer for sale
Hi mate, where do you order those thin ply sheets from to use with the laser cutter?
Cheers
Get mine from amazon. Search 2mm bass wood or balsa wood 👍
@@JamesDeanDesigns many thanks mate!
