Crazy how some people fail to see how bad Kelly’s writing is.
The entire office is completely out of ideas
They’re stuck rehashing the same tired concepts because they have no clue how to handle this character anymore.
The gap between Kelly’s writing and Ireland’s is crazy
at least Ireland puts in some effort to write him well. Meanwhile, Kelly keeps recycling the same nonsense marvel has been pushing since Brand New Day, turning Peter into this edgy, mean-spirited man-child who’s just insufferable overall.
Not to mention how they just love to kill him over and over again for the fun of it.

Im glad you understand what makes this character great. I share your passion, sadly, I've come to the conclusion the only singular way we will get the change we want is if people stop paying for slop and let it fail. Once Spiderman fails, and I mean utterly tanks in sales, they will HAVE to change course. Spiderman is Marvel's flagship and unless they want to commit seppuku, they will have to give us what we want if we close our wallets. Till then it will continue to be slop.

Best part of this issue... watching Jackpot die.
After suffering so much character assassination, at this point it's better to be killed off and forgotten, rather than remembered as a shell of what you once were.
Depressing, I know, but given the state of Spider-Man these days... that's more or less all that I feel.

@@BrandontheAwesome I wrote a longer reply to this but it glitched and I lost it, annoyingly. But the main thrust of it is that it is interesting to me that the main thing people focus on is that “MJ CHEATED! WHAT A B*TCH!” rather than:
“OMG THAT POOR WOMAN TRAPPED IN A HELLISH VERSION OF EARTH FOR 4 YEARS WITH ONE MAN FOR COMPANY AND MONSTERS TRYING TO KILL HER EVERY DAY NOT KNOWING IF SHES EVER GOING TO GET HOME AND SEE HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS AGAIN AND THEN WHEN SHE DOES THE CHILDREN SHE BONDED WITH AND LOVED THAT CALLED HER MOM GOT ERASED FROM EXISTENCE WHILE A PSYCHO TRIED TO KILL HER”.

@jonathanl-j4i You mean the children that weren't even real to begin with?
MJ and Peter are soulmates. After everything that went down in Nick Spencer's run (regardless of its quality), fans felt things were going back to how they should be. Zeb took all of that away, and in the worst way possible.

I'm aware with some of the storylines in Amazing Spider-Man. Revenge of the Sinister Six, Death of the Stacy's, Spider-Man No More, Great Power, Great Responsibility, the Goblin's Last Stand, the Clone Saga, Kraven's Last Hunt, and J. Michael Straczynski's run.
Now I understand why this current run of Amazing Spider-Man is so badly written because it doesn't have the mood and feel of being burden with the power and responsibility. Coming Home by J. Michael Straczynski is a great example of how to truly write a Spider-Man story. Ultimate Spider-Man is another great example of how a story is written correctly without adding anything that takes away the element of writing a storyline.

Peter just faced a Scion with control of time and he used a Paradox to win. Man changed the future. At this stage in the game Peter is the representation of what the Scions refuse to see. The strength in humanity. They go on and on about Spidermans fight/human life/struggle amounting to nothing yet HERE THEY ARE trying so hard to please Daddy dearest Cytorak who cant even take one simple planet for lord knows how many times Strange beat his children in the contest. Cyra is easily my favorite of them but this is where i feel shouldve shone the strength of Peter the most. But i guess thats too much to wish for from Amazing Spiderman these days.

I think the biggest thing triggering me this issue was the feeling that…..we’ve done this before?
Like isn’t the feeling of futility a sensation during the Spider-Man No More story line or just the constant idea that you can’t save everyone. Like it’s Peter’s whole schtick…knowing the fragility of life and just realizing it now feels weird.
Also dangling MJ there again. In a double page spread. With her final thoughts dying in Peter’s arm feeling “dissatisfied”, like wtf are we doing here.

Just in the interest of conversation I wanted to put my points that I have a different opinion on:
1.) I don’t think the villain from last issue coming back harms the story in anyway. He’s a villain what’s wrong with him not honoring the rules
    2. I personally looked at him losing it over Gwen, Miles, & Spider-Boys death due to him feeling a sense of responsibility since they’re following in his footsteps

I appreciate you actually having the conversation instead of the “I’m right you’re wrong” type of comments I’ve gotten😅
My issue isn’t that he reappeared it’s that Kelly ruined the win Ireland gave him by shoehorning another Spider-Man death scene, it felt pointless to me and creates a loophole within the entire covenant that anyone could abuse so the champion can never truely win
And imo it still feels a little out of place for the breakdown to occur then but if you feel differently then that’s okay!

@@BrandontheAwesome I have to disagree ( sorry for the grammar in advance lol). Their deaths weren’t less important then the others. Like Bobby he feels responsible for them. He helped mentor Miles, someone who saw Petyr have a hero to look up to, and carry his mantle. Gwen’s not only a comrade and friend but a reflection of someone that he loved. As for the spider bot, I’ll admit I don’t know too much about them, but he is young kid who he mentors and watch out for.
They all have impacted each others lives, but these kids, they reflect a brighter future to him, carrying such amazing potential. To see them robbed of that though on some cosmic whim was simply the tipping point for him.

Spidey: Well, you see, back in Miles's universe, the spider that bitten him basically made him immortal along with his Spidey and also I never give a shit about Bailey. I never want him to be my sidekick at all. If you put one of my Spider-kids or my clone brothers in this vision, I would be terrified. It was a nice try, but it didn't work for me at all.

Another great review and spot-on analysis. Again, I say, Marvel and DC should close their doors, or each company pick 10 to 15 comics to improve the quality of the story writing, come up with better creative ideas (these 1st two aspects both companies should consult MNstash :)), and in most cases get better artists. Per your previous comment MNstash, I'm glad you're enjoying some of the DC comics, but buyer beware, DC has rebooted their character so many times the issues you're enjoying may not be that good in six months. Hopefully not. Case in point, Jeremy Adams became the writer for the rebooted "Green Lantern" DC comic in May 2023. I'm a huge Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) fan It was good for the 1st 7 issues, then the storytelling went downhill from there IMO. I hope the "Nightwing" comic continues to be good.
"ASM" is complete and utter trash, and one or two good issues from any of the Marvel writers doesn't make up for over 17 years of decline and mediocrity. Your channel gave a great review of "ASM # 31 - 33", the "If this be my destiny" A.K.A "The Master Planner Saga" story arc published from September 9, 1965, to November 11, 1965, with cover dates from December 1965 to February 1966. Just imagine if Peter Parker/Spider-Man would have quit in that arc, would his character have become iconic? Absolutely not. This Joe Kelly story arc would be interesting if in "ASM # 66", Felicia or MJ would talk to and convince Peter to resume the fight. That would be a good intervention, as long as it wasn't Shay. I can't see that because Peter would have to reveal his secret identity. I also agree it was terrible Spidey lost it in "ASM # 65" when he saw Spider-Gwen, Miles Morales, and Spider-Boy defeated. Another twist could be s Cyra falls in love with Spidey and convinces him its's wrong to quit and she helps him defeat the last 3 scions. Never happen, but we have to see what the direction Joe Kelly takes "ASM". I'm not optimistic.
To illustrate how far Marvel has fallen, In "Venom # 2" a new villain is introduced. The villain's name is "Chuck Stuff". I grew up in South Philly near where the sports teams play. "Chuck Stuff" is based on (or seems to be based on), the Philadelphia Flyers, the National Hockey League (NHL) Team, mascot named "Gritty". "Chuck Stuff's" weapon is throwing cheesesteaks at his opponents, 'chucking stuff" at them. I think this is awful and hilarious at the same time. He also wears a Philly shirt. He's seen with a character who looks like the National Football League (NFL) Coach Andy Reid who used to coach the NFL team the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2012. He is the current coach of the two-time defending Super Bowl Champions, Kansas City Chiefs who most likely will win the Super Bowl for the third time this year. If you visit Philly, make sure you're drunk and hungry to go eat a cheesesteak at Pat's or Geno's in South Philly. For some reason in the comic Andy Reid is wearing a baseball cap with a "Union Jack" on it. This character showcases how pathetic Marvel has become. Keep up the great work. Cheers!

I managed to fully catchup on the current superman volume last night by Williamson and I gotta say, it surprised the hell out of me, almost every issue I enjoyed and the book consistently had good artwork save an issue or two, something thats only gonna continue with dan mora coming in for that series.
I wanted to know the full context behind everything so I feel ready to write out the next review for issue 20!
I think nightwing comics being so strong lately has got to be because of dan dido leaving. if I remember correctly when he was a more predominate figure in dc he couldn't stand dick Grayson, hence why he was dead in injustice and like batman v superman the movie.
the only positive ive seen from venom issue 2 is Dylan just constantly roasting Paul at every chance he gets. at the very least its nice to know that the writer and the artist (who is a massive MJ fan, his mj art is great) hate Paul!

I think there's only one Spider variant whose death would have made Peter break and throw the towel in an impactful and insightful way : Spider Girl aka Mayday Parker.
This is the girl Spider-Man would have and should have had. The girl he never got to know, the girl he never got to see grow into being anyone or anything to him... The girl he sacrificed because he couldn't bare the weight of another death being from his own carelessness (Aunt May).
If he was shown Aunt May's death right before Mayday, that would have been the deal breaker.
    That would have shattered him.

@@mnstash I didn't find the words for it earlier but this moment of hopeless coming from Peter would be more than valid and understandable with a May/Mayday death parallel since there's always a special feeling of regret and sadness someone has for each What-If tied to a life or death situation :
Seeing May dead would have made Peter remember the very deal he made with Mephisto to keep her alive, his aunt's life for his daughter's. This deal wouldn't have saved her from a mortal death which was bond to happen. While he grew very VERY desensitized to May dying, the fight he had with her in an earlier issue might stirr the sadness and grief that always accompany the loss of the closest thing he has to a mother. This last part is important because...
Seeing Mayday also dead *right after,* looking much younger than Peter *currently is* and *in a Spider-themed costume,* would have made him realize that, even if he didn't shake hands with Mephisto, someone would have still died long before their time *because of him,* his very own child.
That would be too much to bear for the time being, thus justifying the need for a break, and make his return to the fight even more cathartic because this means Peter has definitely matured past the One More Day episode of his life.
He has come to accept realities of life he has been running away from since OMD and perhaps move on to the next step which, again, will never bring back what he lost and choose to give up but will help him build something sturdy and long lasting since he now, more than ever, has GOALS to aim for and PROJECTS to focus on wisely.

Marvel have come up with a storyline where they get to have what they want, Peter Parker dead.
They even get to kill him over and over, just so that anyone still reading who loves Peter will be hurt more and more.
But, they can't let him STAY dead. That would eliminate a cash cow. They've got MOVIES to make about Peter Parker, Spider-Man! So he's got to be pushed through more and more creatively bankrupt stories when the guy just needs a break, and they can't REPLACE him, because even the CLONES of Peter Parker are either too busy being villains, or being anti-heroes, and the OTHER Spider-Man hasn't quite caught on like Peter has (and certainly doesn't have the number of MOVIES he's been in as proof of his sustainability), so replacing him with Miles in the main book would be RISKY, and they don't have the spine for anything RISKY, so they have to do things like give MJ superpowers, so that it's equivalent to Peter trying to rekindle a romance with Felicia, and besides MJ's with PAUL now, for no reason anyone can discern other than to take her off the board for Pete.
They're just going to symbolically kill Peter Parker over and over again, because they've got no better ideas, and they can't TRULY kill him off FOR GOOD.

To be fair on the break down of seeing who dies, hes ran that pain with everyone else some hundred times at least and they were all full grown adults with a place in the world, however small or weird that place got. The next gen spiders are all very young, have live lives the almost get on par with the messes peter has been through, (spiderboy basically having his existence displaced and virtually nowhere in his homelife, Miles having his reality sketch and skewed knto 616 yet still comprehending he became a spider cause his og peter died, and gwen is almost a mirror along with being an alternate version of the first lover that died in peter's arms.) And while he sounds like he brushed off the rest, its probably more like he was copeing with jokes than letting them break him, so pile that with the weight that perspectivly a kid destinted to the mantle, a kid stuck in the chaos that the universe is saying doesnt belong, and a young gwen stacy who he once promised to watch out for in a spiderverse event, reasonably that could break the effect of coping like a tipping point. Its not isolated as just those 3 dying breaking him

I also wanted to make a few recommendations. It's a shame "ASM" is so horrible. I hope "USM" continues to be good with its story arcs and art. It's great how your videos continue to be of excellent quality, and you continue to grow your channel. Only 90 more subscribers to 5.5k. Don't be discouraged if while you're trying to diversify and grow your channel if DC and Marvel continue to decline in quality and storytelling. There is so much material out there in Manga and indie comics, you could diversify to showcasing a character or two from these comics if it really got bad following DC and Marvel comics.
One example is the "Titan Comics" "Conan the Barbarian" series released in August 2023. The series is currently on issue # 17. I think the stories are very good and the art is improving. I've read all the Conan books staring with the 1st author Robert E. Howard's 1st book "The Phoenix on the Sword" published in 1932. I started reading classic novels in the early 1980s as I reached my late teens. I moved away from comics as my primary reading material to novels about Sc-Fi, Muder Mystery, and Fantasy. The comic is violent and has nudity. Usually the female characters being topless (now that's my kind of comic, LOL!). These comic stories follow the novels and are different than the movies with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Conan is a man's man and there usually isn't any woke elements in these stories because the books are from a different era and weren't made for modern audiences.
As you grow older and mature, another option as opposed to reviewing comics is reviewing novels from the genres I mentioned or whatever genre you prefer. You could review contemporary novels written by Lee Child regarding the "Jack Reacher" character. Lee Child has written 29 novels from "The Killing Floor" published March 19997 to the current book in the series "In Too Deep" published on October 21, 2024. There have been two movies starring Tom Cruise, and Amazon Prime is releasing the 3rd season on February 20, 2025. The 3rd season will be based on the 7th book in the series titled "Persuader" published April 2003.
You could do retro reviews of Characters like "Tarzan" written by Edgar Rice-Burroughs whose 1st Tarzan book was "Tarzan of the Apes" 1st published in the pulp magazine "All-Story Weekly" and published back in June 1914. Yes, these characters and books are dated but give a great perspective of the times the books were written. Another character is "Zorro" (meaning "The Fox" in Espanol/Spanish) written by Johnston McCulley, published as a novel in 1919, and was made into a 1920 Silent Film starring Douglas Fairbanks, Sr. The more well-known film is with Antonio Banderas in 1998. My favorite version is "The Mask of Zorro" with Tyrone Power released in 1940. That film has the best sword fight in the History of cinema. I recommend checking it out if you don't mind a black and White film.
Hopefully, DC and Marvel comics will turn around, change direction, and make good comics to review. If not, there's no worries. You'll come up with creative and innovative ideas to continue to grow your channel. There are so many options to include in further diversifying your channel. The great news is, not too many RUclips channels review novels, and that could be another segment for your channel to cover. There are Expanded Universe (EU) Star Wars novels, Star Trek, DC and Marvel graphic novels from yesteryear. I believe you'll be able to continue to be one of the best Spidey RUclips channels but also known for great reviews of other source material and a leader in the RUclips social media. All the best. Cheers!

thank you for the recommendations! ive honestly so much on my list as I slowly peck away at it that once ive caught up, I'd like to take a lot at some more classic stories or even maybe some old spawn issues.
thats the best part about it all these so much for me to look at and get inspiration from.
old marvel graphic novels too would be a good video to do, I feel like they'd have to be a special for my channel considering how big the stories are and how much time it would take, even the old marvel preview magazines would be fun! I own a few myself like the punisher one and I believe starlords 2nd appearance.
ive so many scripts written out atm, ive been trying to get them all ready for recordings so in theory it would make it easier to smash through them all!
for more classic spidey stories im tempted to look at one of my favourite stories the child within/death of harry
we managed to hit 5.5k today!! my last four videos have done the channel well which im happy about, but thank you for the constant support mate :)

You're Welcome :). I look forward to more great videos. I'm glad you're enjoying the current DC comics. BTW, I forgot to mention that 1940 movie "The Mark of Zorro", in Batman canon, is the final movie Brice Wayne sees with his parents Thomas and Martha. When they leave the theatre together and go down the alleyway, his parents are murdered. That's when DC wrote good storytelling.

Don’t you just love when Pete dies to someone he literally called pathetic and a terrible fighter one issue ago just absolute trash writing I can’t believe I am saying this but let ilerand keep writing for the book

Hry man. Maybe its because im a slighty younger fan, but I honestly quite enjoyed the issue. For me things like Cyra not being a demon like her siblings and acting like a person, brother getting his ass kicked, cheating and still losing, seeing spidey beg and plead for the lives of his loved ones and having him not physically die but almost spiritually/mentally was interesting, cool and sad to me. I understand your issue, but honestly i dont see it in the same way.

As a one off comic in isolation it’s not so bad. However the idea of Peter just going screw the world let it burn because I’m feeling sad… kind of sucks. He’s given up being Spider-Man before when downcast, but the idea that he’d throw away everyone’s lives as well when he has always been about responsibility just does not feel like Spider-Man.
The bigger problem is we have just been through a run that seemed to fundamentally misunderstand Peter and his wider cast, and lean into endless torture and suffering with little in the way of rising above to triumph. Setbacks and suffering need a purpose to build the character up to victory. Often he’s needed someone else to rescue him recently. During Wells it was Norman, and here it looks like it will be Coulson.
This just feels like more of the same that we have endured, and setting up more of the same to come. That’s why for longer term readers it still feels difficult to enjoy, it’s the wider context, not just the issue here.

I definitely am not vibing with the ending of this issue but I've been enjoying this storyline for the most part and it's clear that he's not going to stay in this broken nihilistic state so I'm open to seeing where this is going.
I still remember 12 years ago when the Peter Parker memory fragment in Superior Spider-Man was willing to put a little girl's life in danger in order to hide his presence from Doc Ock. That still ended up overall being one of my favorite Spidey stories in the post-OMD era that ended up reaffirming Peter's character so I'm keeping an open mind here

@mnstash Yeah Ireland's definitely had the better issues so far, I wish it was her sticking around on this book for the long haul ngl

8:57 Okay, this part, I can kinda defend. HEAR ME OUT. If we're going by their logic, Peter managed to live with the pain of losing Aunt May in that hospital better because there, she wasn't injured. Nobody went out to get her. If it were her own illnesses and natural causes, I'm guessing he could accept that as a part of life and cope better. That's the only bit I can sorta justify. HOWEVER, the rest of it, I will fully agree with you. It's an absolute idiotic mess. Had they swapped the Spider-Family with MJ, then it KINDA would be more coherent.
But hey, it's Nick Lowe pulling the strings on this absolute dumpster fire. As if him coining the term "True PAUL-IEVERS" wasn't enough. Ugh, the guy isn't even hiding it anymore. He really did just openly twist and desecrate one of Stan Lee's most iconic phrases. Oh, and in today's session of PKSD (Post-Kelly Stress Disorder), I wanted to let you all know that I submerged myself in the bath to scream for 10 whole minutes. My voice is shot. How are you doing, Stash?

My mind is broken! Nick Lowe has fully ruined my sanity and I might have to try your technique!
We had two good issues by Ireland and so they give the run to the guy who was ruining this story??

@ I just want him to have a new direction . I personally believe horizon labs 🧪 should’ve have gone nowhere and keep that job ; I also want to have a love interest that further the storyline . The best to do is give jackpot 🎰 stronger direction and breakup with Paul , read a fan fiction with Medusa x Spider-Man and it was great .

Wait, Kelly is going to be writing the next volume?! We’re screwed. I’ve officially thrown away any hope I have for the new volume
When I learned that Peter quit after this trial, all I could think about was how out of character it was for him. Spider-Man should be willing to carry on the fight, no matter how difficult and challenging it gets. But…no, all of this happens.
I also find it a desperate move from Marvel to have Jed Mackay’s X-Men crossover into this story just because Juggernaut is part of that team. I genuinely love Jed Mackay’s current run on X-Men, but I’m not going to buy those issues of ASM just to see them in a Spider-Man story when the story isn’t good

    • @mnstash
      @mnstash  13 дней назад +1

Isn’t it cool how Ireland got rewarded with two great issues by not getting her own run!
Some people also fail to understand (even tho I say it in the video) he quits being the champion of the earth, NOT being Spider-Man. Which makes the entire thing even worse!
