6-13/32" is the measurement Not 6-7/32". It was 12-13/16" chopped in half. Half of 12 is 6 and half of 13/16 is 13/32.. It'll be 3/16" off. No biggy. Keep putting that work in. Respect.
LOL. This is why I use metric units when fabricating. Much easier math.
The correct way to shorten a rear end housing is to drill out the 4 welds, holding the tubes into the differential housing and cut end off the tube.
You never cut the tube in half.
Hope this thing don't wear bearings..😮
This is my first time seeing how thick the axle tube is. I always imagined it being way more thin. That's plenty of room for weld. I like it

I was told by buddy left Side is what u need to shorten right side to nd use a left Axel on right I also was told just cut a chunk then weld her up

You can take the differential out if you take the 4 bolts without taking it all apart and you will not have no problems both in it back on when you are ready so

You can knock the studs out of those axles and put the blazers original drums on them to mark new holes so you don’t have to change to a ford wheel bolt pattern

Man alota work n doing good. Just hate seeing ya go from 1 one wheeler peeler to another. It's crazy what u said they charge for a rear end there. By time u buy a posi and install it or have it done u coulda got one of them 8.8s with the Ford Trac loc. I'll tell ya now I had a an s10 zr2 rear end with the posi swapped for a mini spool it's great for the track or back road hits but for a daily it sucks. Just like driving with a welded differential.

I helped someone do this once and he preheated the housing with propane torch before welding it. I think it was to evenly distribute the heat so it wouldn’t warp. Was a long time ago so I’m not too sure.lol

Those pliers are hose pliers like taking the annoying stuck on hoses off
Currently at 21 minutes in. I hope how thick these tubes that you bevel the axle tube joint before you weld the tubing back together

Why shorten to match the short side…. It’s still wider than stock

The differential is off-center. There is a long side axle and a short side, therefore off-centering the diff.
That's not something that you want in drag racing. It's just added pinion angle and it's best to have everything as centered in a straight line as possible if you want the chassis to go straight

Because all I needed to do with matching the short side, is get a different offset wheel..
Which I already had.
Now I have a centered diff, matching length 31 spline axles.
And, factory axles that I'm capable of getting replacements from the junkyard rather than having to order custom lengths.

I was wondering if you could just cut the whole short tube off another axle, right at the diff, and use that?
