I built my V8 S10 using some of the info from the book "Jags That Run" which is a book about the S10 V8 swap. At first I ignored the part where it recommends to install a small threaded pipe plug into the SBC engine block water pump return hole, (3rd hole down, passenger side) and then drill out with a small drill bit. Less water is bypassed by the pump and it makes a big cooling difference. I learned the hard way.
I watch TPV because similar motors and I just tinker in my garage on my 68.All my hot rod friends are have moved out or 6 feet under.A lot of TPV videos have helped me along on this ground up build. Finally got this 68 on the road and man Oooo man it is sooooo amazing.Used a lot of his information and Geeeeezzzz this sbc 406 Freaken pulls HARD.I did was hoping this motor would pull to 6300 but I was wrong. This sucker pulls so hard to 7500 and just leaves these these people in there new mustangs or dodges just sitting there not realizing what just happened. Thanks for your channel and input.Definitely has me on the right track.Couldn’t be more happier with these results.
I found two things greatly helped with my S10 V8 swap: 1) transmission cooler with fan moved to the rear (and some drag and drive guys run tow without fans in a row and say it works very well, without the extra amp draw) and 2) an inline oil cooler run off the remote mount filter. Cool oils, cool parts!
I don't have an S10 with a V8. But I do have a truck with a V8, headers, blah blah blah. I took an old aluminum truck bed tool box, cut it up, and made a shroud out of it (It had a bent lid and busted locks. Plus it was almost free. Bought it from the scrap yard for the price of scrap metal). Twin 12" fans with a controller box. I live in East Texas where today (Aug 20 2023) it was 109F or 110F. She ran great even running the AC. Point being, you don't necessarily have to spend $300 on a shroud. Just get resourceful and with a little work you can make yourself something really nice. My shroud is aluminum, as I said before, diamond plate polished to a mirror finish. You just need to make sure you cover as much of the radiator as possible!! I mounted it with two slide in mounts on the bottom. Then fabricated two tabs that slide into a mount and get bolted and secured with one ten mill bolt on each side. Hope that makes sense. I'M IN NO WAY KNOCKING ANYTHING TPV HAS DONE ON HIS TRUCK!!!! I'm just saying what I did to maybe give someone the inspiration to make their own. Because of how much shit cost these days and it is very possible to make something that not only works but looks good doing it. Thanks TPV for all the work and effort it takes to put out this content. It is greatly appreciated!
I sorta did the same thing too the s10 we built 20 years ago. You don't have to cut much to fit the bigger rad in i notched the frame and it fits into the core support then you have tons of room in front of the motor
We have 4 square S10 V8 swaps [350, 406, 6.0, 427 ls] stock hood latches, cheap stock 4.3 radiator with cheap stock dodge dual fans, 160 deg. thermostat. No cooling problems ever. But you CANNOT run A/C with a condensor in front or it will overheat. We know, we tried every combo. And those flat fans you are using didn't work for us. They don't pull hardly any air. We tried them.
Man, I’m finding this out the hard way. No matter what I try, I cannot get it to stay cool with the ac going. I’ve tried everything. Really defeating. I may try a smaller condenser.
Lol, you crack me up. I thought i was watching a vid of me! From the cussing after running into shit to the mutha truckas! Im about to dig my 91 out of the field to do a frame off. My poor little truck was in great shape till a guy at work backed into it and then it went through the flood of 19'. It was like ten feet under water for almost 30 days. So its going to be a job.
What happened to your LT1 motor? I've got a LT4 outnof a 96 vetter grand sport. I scored harness and Trans with computer. Did you have any issue with it? I plan on swapping in the computer and stroking it to a 409. Any suggestions?
The LT1 is a good motor I still have mine. I plan to put it into another S10 to bracket race and street drive. That is a big stroke I don't think the gen 2 LT1 can go 409 only 396.
I know you're getting discounts you didn't go by $300 fans? Edit- were you using cooling problems- bet you have a GM block if it runs warm. I don't need a shroud with the Dart shp deal

Running the same fans on my s10 works good glad to see you still out there

I have a 165f thermostat and I did all the solution!! All I said !!! And the best is a racing with no cluth fan direct water pump

@@TPVPRO Thank you so much!! Love your videos keep up the great work
Yeah my 400 runs warm even with 4000 cfm fans I an going to try a couple of things different when I put the new motor in
Make sure ur heads have steam ports in them if not drill out
Thanks for the advice man!
I used a Ron Davis racing rad. Dual fan set up
Which one? Can’t find for an s10
4.3 radiator works fine with Chrysler 300 fans
Hay sir if those heads wasn't designed to go on 400 sbc u have to drill out the steam ports in heads
It's a aftermarket block with no steam holes.
Aftermarket blocks and Aftermarket Heads don't need those steam holes.

Oh damn those things pull don't they lol
Rubber spray
what a mouth!!
