A popular go to for strengthening your rear end assembly.
To start off this rear end came from a 1998 Ford Explorer we picked up from the junkyard a few months back. We are going to be shortening it but first we're going to have to tear this thing down, run down to the junkyard and get some parts we'll need!

That's exactly how I got my last dog. She was running around in the highway and almost got ran over. She was super affectionate. Just loved everyone who she came in contact with.
My sis got a kitten this way. It was hanging out in the middle of the highway. So she scooped it up, and tried to find the owner. Nobody stepped up and the cat stayed.

Dude your junk yard is expensive. I got a 8.8 3.73 LSD rear for my S10 for 150 and they pulled it. Got the short side axle for 40. Definitely a good upgrade for your blazer. And props to you for saving that dog. Love your channel bro.💯👍
if you grind the weld on the axel tube at the center section you can spin the tube right out then put the short one in

You always buy two hole rear-ends. Then sell Beverly (mope head) the other one
There is a brake line adapter fitting it is 3/16, 24 by 3/8 x 24 that will connect your factory brake line to the Ford Explorer line going to your brakes. Just thought I’d pass that on.
Definitely should have taken your 8.8 back to the junkyard to see if you could trade + cash for the 8.8 that had the factory LSD, 373 gear and disc brakes. That would save you a bunch of money, labor and headache later on. Basically all you need with that other rear end in the yard besides shortening the tube is a set of Caltracs, shocks and leaf springs. Project S10 went that route and his shit works great. He just shortened his axel tube a couple months back too to get ready for race season.
Mine is a 373 as well.. mini spool, c-clip eliminators, traction bar and I'll be fine. Calvert Racing doesn't make the traction bar for the blazer unfortunately. The bracket for the leaf spring is different from the truck.
@@deadbeatgarageaaah gotcha. What about adding some weight behind the rear end to help keep the tires planted. Can use lead bars or if you wanna get crazy fill the tailgate with concrete lol

That was a good thing ya did for that puppy dog. Need to get me an 8.8 for my mustang. Plenty of explorers around but no v8 mustangs n the junkyard around here n don't Wana have to do alot of mods just to make it work. But glad to see your actually gonna get the axle and not do like iv seen a few ppl do n cut n reweld the axle.

Also, you did a really good job filming the diff tear down. It's something I've played with and seen a ton of times before, but I don't ever recall seeing such a well documented disassembly

You should grab the proportioning valve off the explorer as well for the brakes your brakes will forever b squishy if you don't when you convert to the drums.. and maybe the master I'm not sure it's been a while sense I've done this

You should upgrade to c Clip eliminators as well if you brake that axle doing a burnout or something the whole rotor and axle and wheel will come out and roll past you.. and we know you love doing burnouts
Caliper brackets for disc brakes are the poor mans c clip eliminator. The bracket will hold the rotor in and not let the axle out Lol. Drum brakes will let the whole shebang float passed you.
With those years truck for the suburban the gauges drain the battery most common thing I had the same problem after two days it was always dead you can test it by using a volt meter to the fuse box in side the truck there is RUclips videos about it

most of the 8.8 explorer rears are 31spline
Try doing the ebrake shoes on that bad boy with out removing the axles. 😂🤣

This kind of defeats the whole purpose of changing out the rear end.
There is a way around this, if you pick and pull your way through the riddle/mystery/conundrum/problem. But don't film it.
