Join me as I hunt for the local barn owls at my local patch. Do you really need to travel for great birding? Let me know your best local patch story below.
Two pairs of Long Tailed Ducks a few weeks ago here in Donegal half a mile from home, Also Red Breasted Mergansers, Choughs, Great Northern Divers feasting on flounders, Merlin in my garden. Saw a male Hen Harrier from my front garden, but didn't have my camera to hand. All within the last few weeks. Loving it here!
What a lovely experience! I loved the quintessential barn owl. Looking forward to your next adventure. If you make your way to niagara falls Canada we have some beautiful owls!
What a lovely video. I really enjoyed it, and have subscribed so I can see future content. My most notable local patch story was when I was walking in a local field with two family members and my spaniel last November. We all stopped in shocked surprise as a short eared owl rose up out of the grass a few yards ahead of us. We guess it was either resting or feeding. We had no idea it was there, and initially thought it was a buzzard. I did get a very distant rear end shot of it as it took me ages to actually register it in my brain, raise my camera and aim! Look forward to your next video!
At the moment it has to be the short eared owl. Although I cant forget the resident kingfisher. The best I could come up with for a name is NeighborWood
A barn owl is always a great sight. Special bird on my local patch? Willow tit. It's not got the wow factor, but it's very rare. Ps you've got a great voice for the media. You could be a voice over on telly 👍
Nice! Very jealous, not had anything like that at mine. Occasionally get a stork flying over, maybe an osprey. Did have an eagle pass over a few weeks ago but I missed it!
Agree with the previous comment. Finding amazing places like in this video that are relatively close to London is good to know. I think having a series of top 3 or 5 places near major cities would be great for the future.
I'm still trying to find my local patch. I usually end up at Sevenoaks Wildlife Reserve, where you can normally see Kingfishers. Whereabouts is your patch? I understand if you wish to keep it reasonably secret.
I live 2 mins away from there! It’s a decent reserve but has had some trouble with kids messing with the hides I think. Also seems to be really quiet for anything ‘within range’ and not 500m away. I should try it more.
All so calming watching any wildlife. Can hear the woodpecker in the local woods, and always buzzards about over us
Thank you so wonderful to see local wildlife thriving :)
Glad you enjoyed it
Plenty of vids. out there of far off locations really nice to see something more local - keep them coming. 👍
I love driving to ‘special’ reserves but need to change it up every once in a while 👍
😊😊😊👍👍👍

That’s incredible! Very jealous. Especially the long tailed ducks !

Thanks Chloe! Glad you enjoyed it, although i suspect some wine might have been involved ;) Would be amazing. Great Grey owls, and Kats...
My favourite video so far ! You are doing such an amazing job ! Keep it up
So informative and great to see that you don't need to travel for miles to see some great wildlife 🦅

Thanks so much! Glad you enjoyed it. Incredible isn’t it when they shock you like that! I get that with snipe sometimes and they almost make me jump 😂
Best yet. Can’t wait to see your next adventure

Hey Paddy! Nice! Can’t beat a kingfisher in the sun. That’s actually brilliant 😂

Hi Michael ! They are pretty special nowadays! Thanks a lot 😂 I am actually trying to do some voiceover but quite hard getting into it. Cheers 👍
Another fun video! And a good reminder that local settings can be just as fun! Thank you for sharing.
It’s worth reminding ourselves sometimes. Can spend hours and hours travelling and not taking pictures !
Awesome encounter! I really liked the format / style of this video, keep up the great work 👍
Thanks! Will try and do these ones quite often as my local spot gets quite interesting in spring
Another great video Chris - could not agree more about the benefits of a local patch 👍🏻
It’s strange isn’t it, always desperate to travel and go to these amazing places then sometimes the best stuff is 5 minutes away 😂
Really enjoying your videos Chris! One of the best new birding photography/cigar smoking channels! ;) Love this spot!
Hi Ken! Thanks a lot 😂 still learning this video stuff but good fun sharing some of these trips! My weekends are for birding & smoking !
I was lucky enough to be one of the few to see and photograph the short stay of a Long Tailed Duck on my local patch of water

Thanks for the tips!
Love it Chris, keep up the good work!
Thanks so much!

@oesWild It's a lovely Barnie!...I assume you're not keen on letting RUclips viewers/birders know where your local patch is Chris?
I would do but have no idea how to 😳
@@ChrisGoesWild keep it under wraps please Chris we don’t need hurds of photographers at such a small reserve
