- Flight review of my Jet2 & Jet2 Holidays flight from Manchester to the Greek Island of Skiathos. Our flight took place in July 2020 just days after the Greek restrictions on British passengers had been lifted. We would be flying on-board a Boeing 737-800 for my first experience with Jet2, so settle in and see what it was like travelling just after lock-down :)

Skiathos is a fantastic island paradise which I have visited several times a year for the last 6 years, the fact that the airport itself is popular with aviation enthusiasts or just people who want to experience jet blast takeoffs or low landings is purely a coincidence ;)

1:34/1:35 that new terminal is now open and it looks amazing!!!! It has these honeycomes in sort of like this City Center with this cool lounge that looks over the apron on east side

Hi Phill. Once again a great video. I went to Turkey with Jet2 in July and we were in the exact same situation as you. I found out on Facebook that our hotel was shut and we emailed Jet2 and they said no it’s all fine your flying as normal. Then just 5 days before they rang us and told us that it was shut. We already had the cases down so we felt our only option was to move hotel. It worked out pretty well in the end as we got a swim up room! 😂
Thanks Peter, looking back I think the level of confusion with the travel companies was understandable but I think in some cases (like both yours and mine) they felt the time pressure of trying to contact and rebook and could have been handled a bit better. I'm glad it worked out for you though :) I've never had a swim up room, knowing me I'd have a few too many beers and fall in so it's probably for the best ;)

That landing amazed me. Vacating onto the apron without back track must have resulted in some very hot brakes! Great video.
Thanks, it's a bit of a combination of coming in nice and slow and the newly extended apron giving one additional runway exit which is quite handy as otherwise it's a long and slow taxi to the turning point and taxi back ;)
The fun thing about LCY is you walk onto the apron to board the aircraft.
The commentating was amazing and I had a really good understanding on what to expect in august :)

Great review of Jet2. Good you have got to Skiathos this year! In all honesty I am just not a fan of Jet2. The cheesy pre recorded announcements (not sure if they used them on your flight?), Think their menu is quite pricey to, whereas Thomas Cook and TUI prices were/are really fair. also not the biggest fan of the 737 either. For short haul my number one choice would be the A321 or the A320 or 757. That's why I have booked a few flights with Wizz Air to fly on the Airbus. It still hurts to see the TCX hangar at MAN, also can't believe 3 of our A330's are still there, poor things, I hear they will be broken up on site at MAN. Question is though who did it better for you Thomas Cook or Jet2?
Thanks Samuel. This was my first do with Jet2, I am happy enough with them (at least based on this experience) but of course time will tell. They didn't use any pre-recorded announcements on either of my flights though I did notice the number table by the L1 door when waiting for the loo.
It's a tough call for which I prefer, I have worked on the 737 (4/8 and should have been a 9ER too) as well as the A320 and 757 and like them all, I really like the A321 and probably prefer that to the 737 but the 757 trumps the lot I guess as they are beastly machines.
I couldn't comment on the food prices on the way out but we did have a toastie on the return which I think was about £4 off the top of my head. The drinks were two for eight-fifty so only 50p more than Thomas Cook, like I said in the video it might be inflation ;)
I really don't know what is going to happen with the hangar, it would be great if the guys at Air Livery would take it over since they are being booted out of theirs. I had heard that the three A330s were going for freighter conversion but that was before all this kicked off, it would be a real shame if they were broken up on site though perhaps rather fitting too given they were all Manchester machines :/
You've put me on the spot there, I enjoyed this experience and I enjoyed my flights with Thomas Cook. I genuinely couldn't say which I prefer, I have flown this route 5 times with Thomas Cook and once with Jet2, all were enjoyable. Ask me again next year ;)
@@ExpoAviation Yeah it would be good if Air Livery went into the TCX hangar. TUI's 757's are flying again now which i am pleased about as thought they might retire them all due to the situation. Do you think you would ever give Wizz Air UK a go? They are flying to holiday destinations from Luton now, though not JSI...
@@samuelknight3826 I would give Wizz Air a go, they fly from Liverpool so less ideal than Manchester but they're on my radar for some trips to European cities. I know it's not the UK side but time will tell if they expand their UK ops North :)
Expo Aviation did you see their rant about Gatwick slots? They have their eye on Gatwick for the second UK base I think. I’ve just had my flight to Faro from Luton with them cancelled tonight, think they are beginning to give up on Portugal and seem to be increasing Greece capacity a lot
Once covid is over then St Maarten is next?
I highly reccommend a flight to Saba. Cliffs on either end

Expo Aviation Well we rebooked for next year. We ended up going in the UK which is still really nice.

AviationWolf same I went to haven instead although I still had fun next year going on easyJet to Rhodes from Liverpool even though Jet2 and tui are still my favourite.

Hello I’ve made trip reports to Greece in the past and I might be making another trip report again soon, however unlike my other videos, the Greek ones are very very stuttery only when I’ve edited it, what editor do you use and do you know why it stutters and how to stop it? Thanks. Do you know if this is the same for other Greek countries like Macedonia and Cyprus? Thanks, sorry to bother you
Hi Daniel, I don't know why your Greek videos stutter but the others are fine, perhaps it is a compression issue due to the length (maybe the Greek videos are longer). I use Corel Video Studio for my videos, I do have a lot of problems with it however as it is very unstable so in future I may move to Adobe. There is a very powerful but free video studio called "Shotcut" which might be of interest :)
How do you find out the planes type year date and how did you know it was a newish plane I’ve tried flight radar but no luck
Websites like Airfleets and Planespotters are a great source of information regarding a particular aircraft's history :)

The irony of your choice of beer is that, as I watched this, I tried to recall seeing anybody I know drink Bud - crickets. The last time I drank a bud was July 1990. You can always rest assured there's plenty of Budweiser here in The Colonies - Yanks don't go near it!!!
Haha yeah it's an odd one, it's quite popular over here and has grown in popularity along with Coors Light and Bud Light (the latter only becoming available here around 7-8 years ago). I'll drink most things (except Carling - true p****wasser) but lean towards a nice ale or bitter - I'm delighted to see the rise in popularity of ale in the US and always enjoy partaking in some light-hearted japery such as "can I drink my bodyweight in this?"

Thanks :) The beers were on an offer with two for 8.50, last year with Thomas Cook they were two for 8.00 so I'm guessing it was inflation ;) Yes everyone wore masks on the flight, only removing them to eat/drink. Even the pilots were wearing masks when in the cabin during the flight (for lavatory breaks).

I worked for this airline for 2 years as cabin crew and I would not recommend anyone else to do the same, they have a tradition of
a thinly veiled passive aggressive bullying towards their crew to make maximum on board sales at the expense of safety and crew rest periods, the next time you fly with them watch to see if the crew get a rest, their day is a minimum of 9hours to 13 hours, and please don't think that they get a rest on the ground because the period between the last passenger off and the next one on is 8 mins and if you don't meet that target jet 2 want to know why, and that 8mins is spent cleaning and a security search not enough time to do both so something has to give, jet 2 won't pay for cleaning, it's not uncommon for the captain to complete the paper work stating that crew had rest when they didn't its called (commercial pressure)
Sadly I am all too familiar with fudged paperwork (usually involving forced "discretion" coming back from SSH) so it doesn't surprise me that it is still going on. I am a bit shocked regarding the turnaround times though, sounds like Ryanair at that rate. Charter Airlines and LCCs are always pushing for sales, back when I was still doing it we were expected to do at least 2 bar services, 1 duty free and a full meal service with tea and coffee on routes as short as BRS-VRN...
