- A recent trip to Skiathos bagged some incredible take off and landings from the famous end of runway view area .
I managed to film enough content to upload about three great videos between now and xmas.

Thanks for sharing these clips, Dafydd! Honestly, I wasn't aware that Condor Airlines was still in business. Back in the early 70's while I was in the US Navy, the Pentagon had a contract with this charter service to get our guys to and from various military bases in Europe, especially in Germany and the UK.
Brings back memories of my holidays in Sciathos Fabulous little island would recommend going there to anyone

Oh I miss Skiathos. The four times I have been there I have used many hours at the end of the runway. Sitting in the taverna waiting for the airplanes. See them coming in, landing., taking off. Love it. There must be quite a collection of hats in the bushes behind when people stands in the jetblast. 🤣

Been there in 2014
Got Cyprus a320 TUI 757 and Thomas cook a321 and Monarch 757.
Last year i went to the holy grail St maarten and yes air france blew me in the water. But my gopro was a-ok.
Next year if allowed i go to the cook islands and do rarotonga.

Question, is the fence serious that low? You can just walkover and you are at the runway with a few steps?
Because the runway is just beginning about 50 meters from the sea, only a road seperates the two. Planes go very low and a 2 meter fence s maybe too high? The runway is so short not an easy 4KM runway with an additional displayed threshold "That additional part of the runway with white arrows before the Threshold an then landing zone" that can help planes flying higher because the landing zone further.
But here again, it's a very short runway, you see planes fly low to land at the white 2 blocks and I see some pretty hard landings. Pilots don't go for the softest landing because that makes the flare longer and need to brake harder, hot brakes.
How often with bad weather windy conditions can a plane fly so low that the landing gear can hit a person or a maybe a bus just driving by? They go extremely low. So how often can they potentially hit someone standing at the low fence. If you hold a long stick I think you can easily hit the gear or engine. It is really dangerous. If there is someone that is crazy can't think of catastrophical things that can happen if someone just throw a big stone/rock in the engine. At that point engines are far from Idle so think what can happen. Worse if 2 man do that. Airports are always well protected so nobody can enter it but this is a special one. They fly lower than Airport of Sint Maarten.
How do you guys think qbout the dangers for man and machine and can you really walk over that very low fence and enter the runway?

been to Skiathos many times in my life since is the first closest island to my great city Volos and the 3 Islands belong into the same region Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonisos are part of the Volos municipality....last time i was there was last year. Not so many stupid tourists thought i admit waiting to get heat by a jet engine.🤣🙄🇬🇷 there is a safe parking spot on the left where most people where staying and enjoying the landings..camera doesn't do justice how close you see the plane landing gear especially from the Greek Pilots that like to show off and use all the runway property! Aegean airlines had the closest landing that i have seen.

I would not say that the landings were insane- in fact they all looked pretty good. For those willing to risk flying debris in the jet blast, the lovely smell of burnt kerosene is pure heaven!

Dafydd Phillips Hi Dafydd, the TUI 757 landing at the end of the video was my flight GOOBN! I’m a captain for TUI and I always have a look after I’ve been to JSI. Don’t suppose there’s any chance of a copy of the footage you have? This was my first JSI of the year. Thanks Chris

I have that landing captured from 3 angles. Firstly I was filming from by the harbour , my son set that go pro up on the road and also he fixed another tripod down the runway as you came in. I traveled there on tui so did some footage from inside when we landed. My plan is to put all the footage together along with the take off too.
Incorporated in the video will be lots of random take offs and landings including a guy falling into the harbour from the blast of a jet 2 take off.
If you can hang on a week or two then I will upload the footage on here.

I had to walk at night in a thunderstorm to collect a ticket direct from the aerodrome in 1984 after losing all my money, being abandoned by my mates and having my girlfriends parents prohibiting any contact... I ended up going through a field of tall grass, getting soaked and when I got there they said there was no ticket... I saw something on the floor and asked what it was? My ticket!
I flew the next day on a 727 back to Heathrow with my GFs father (a Greek gangster) sitting on the same aircraft, seems that was just a coincidence, I was 21 or so.
Edit: Or was it Kos? I had been hopping islands?? Well it was 40 years ago..80% Skiathos.

'Low landings'? Aircraft have to be quite low to land, in fact they have to contact the land to land....hence the term....landing.

I was doing a double take on that A320. Anybody know the history of this aircraft? This has a beautiful nose section, unlike all other ugly A320s I've seen. Was this an early model? Or am i going nuts?
P.S. As a Child, I wanted to become a Pilot! But it didn't Work Out... Therefore, all this is very close to me!

Hey, you could put a car wash there. At the end of the rinse cycle the tracks feed into a special oval loop (The Express Fast Dry Lane) that has a sand filter attached (so you want have to rewash the car after the plane takes off). As the planes start to barrel down the runway the car goes around the small track and voila the car is dry on all sides! You could even sell special "bon voyage" balloons for the kids. As the wind roars the multicolored balloons would release, flying (and polluting) points all over the globe.
Adjacent to the car wash you could have a clothes line. In between takeoffs beach goers could attach their wet beach wear to line pins and again voila "instant dry." When the beach wear is hanging on the line for drying then beach combers' "private parts" become public parts. No problem. You can sell them fig leaves so they can hide all their "stuff." This would be quite quaint, not to mention environmental friendly---going green and organic! Of course the beachers must keep their hands off others' figs (or bananas)!
Ya see, all the wealth isn't in gold and diamonds all the time. Sometimes there are opportunities in a bunch of plain ole free hot air----like I'm clearly demonstrating here!
