    My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

As an adult it is our responsibility to take care of ourselves in the ways our parents were unable to. OMG. Such a big piece of the puzzle. It has taken me the time it has taken me. I honestly didn't know what taking care of myself so that I could feel safe looked like. Sometimes it almost feels as if you are some sort of avatar ; - >

    The cool thing about being an adult is taking care of yourself in the ways you need. And no judgment AT ALL on the oreos. One must always have emergency "emo snax" on hand during these times. Wow, that's some NOSTALGIE with the banana shot man. Loving these reflective Jay drops. . feels like old days. One of the biggest takeaways I had from my coach training days that really shifted something in me was the notion that NO is always a yes in disguise. It became second nature for me to ask myself 'What is this no a yes to?' Which, is a simple way of reframing and refocusing my energy and perception on creating more of what I WANT in my life and also learning to be conscious of what I want. That was huge. Especially, as I know you are aware, when coming from the conditioning of not being allowed to say no. It was like pulling the scooby doo mask off to finally realize that there was always a yes hiding there anyway.

    • @JaySwanson
      @JaySwanson  9 месяцев назад +2

      That's a really great way to reframe it - I'll do my best to see what I'm saying yes to with my no's as I go. I'm definitely making strides here. Glad the journey continues onward and upward (and thanks for sticking with me for so much of it too!)

    I have been in your shoes Jay when it comes to learning to “protect yourself / saying no / not wanting to put up with certain people situations” it’s taken me years to be ok with “no, I’m not going to do this etc” I’ve always been a “yes” person and since turning 40 I’ve decided like you, to protect myself and that’s ok 👌🏽 good on you Jay!

    Hey Jay, sorry to see you're feeling down. I think it's important to acknowledge and address your emotions. While an Oreo cookie might bring a momentary distraction, consider making small, positive choices for your well-being. Reflect what you needed as a younger version of yourself and strive to provide those comforts now. Sometimes, selfcare is the key to finding solace.

    Its really nice to get a daily thought/piece of your life again. In the mean time I relate all too well to parents not providing you with the safety you need and avoiding people that just dont feel comfortable. Ive left social circles for that exact reason. When you are with people that appreciate you and are good people it really brings into focus what you shouldnt have to tolerate.

Warning, I almost stepped on a Maltese at Galerie Lafayette. It's owner wasn't paying attention and I had NO idea it was right behind me. Thank goodness it was "almost".
    Since dogs CAN go everywhere, it's nice to think they have a bath now and then.
    I was always a "pleaser" and have had issues saying "no" my entire life. I TOO am getting better at it. I have talked to my brothers about the fact is I wonder if I have EVER been deeply happy and I don't think so and I'm 78. It's interesting.
