My name is Jay Swanson - I'm an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they'll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I've learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.
Links are affiliate links where they can be - meaning if you click through them and buy something, I'll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)

Me and my wife found you for Paris stuff and stayed for it all, sad and happy.
So happy you have 🙏
Hey Jay, I've been watching your videos for several years now and have empathized with your journey during the process. I've enjoyed seeing your transformation and have especially appreciated your sharing your sturm und drang (it takes some courage and evolving maturity to be able to do so). You can share your love of Paris and France, but it doesn't have to define who you are (unless you choose to do so). Thanks for sharing your life with us, you be you!
Jay, you’re more than just the Paris guy to me.
🤗
You've def been much more than where you live and a tour guide, even then that's a pretty cool thing to be :) I've often thought I needed to give up the cafe kick simply for the access sugar I end up consuming!
you're more than just the davidguy01 to me
@@samuelmelton8353 😂
I came for Paris and stayed for you, Jay. You’re an interesting guy and so self-reflective. Love it! The new channel sounds fun!
Awesome! Thank you!
Yay for you! ❤ Next goal is for Cooper to get his own channel. 🤣
😆🐶
Ive really missed you Jay , can't find anything to watch , so I've been watching all the older videos
Glad the oldies scratch the itch at least 🥂
Watching you, listening to you is not for the Paris life, watching you is like having that friend, that person that can share wisdom and make everyone comfortable, a friend. Just a friend.
So glad that you are prioritizing taking good care of your health. Glad you didn't lose your keys.
Me too 😆
Smart to spin off a purely Paris in My Pocket channel. And still staying with your original channel. Just enjoying your sharing your journey.
Subscribed a couple of years ago when i was planning a trip to paris, came back for 20 in 20, staying for life vlogs. Looking forward to it!
Glad to have you here!
"Wait, why is this guy sad? I just came here to learn about the Eiffel Tower." LOL. The split to the new channel makes complete sense. Already subscribed! 🙂
When he said that quote I laughed a little too hard. I find Jay because I was researching Paris. I stayed because of the feels!
All the feels 😆😭😅
Same lol
Upward, and Onward! Perfecto…I’ll be subscribed to both!!!
Thank you!
“Why is this guy so sad” 😢😂 so much growth shown here. Bravo Jay ❤
I’ll admit I came here for Paris stuff so I’m very excited about this new offering, but I have also grown fond of you and what you have been doing all along. I see you ❤
Thank you! 🙏
The odd thing I've noticed about "giving up" things like certain types of food or certain habits (TV, etc) is that while I'm indulging those things, they feel like such a part of my identity that I can't imagine "myself without them." But when I move into a "new identity," I notice those things fall away and I don't really miss them... so they weren't "really me" to begin with.
100% this
Treadmill owner here. Interval training ftw. I've run outside exactly once in my life. 😆 If I absolutely had to run in Paris I wouldn't run unless it was early am before the traffic. I would be too frightened of taking deep lungfuls of breath in the evening.
I'd go nuts if confined to a treadmill 😆
i missed you when you stopped the daily vlogs! My son is 34 (which is almost a different generation?? ) and we talk at least once a week and text more often than that but having you in my life makes me understand him better. So not leaving this channel, for sure. You're the Luke (my son) whisperer!
You're the Paris Jay 😉👍
My idea of exercise is a good, brisk sit. Love your work, Jay ❤
I was wondering why you weren't showing up on my feed. It's always a joy to see you. Here's to PIMP 😉
Thank you! 🥂
It’s nice to see you again, Jay! You’re always a delight ❤
Thanks! 🥂
Jay is back... you just made my day!!!
🤗😅
Just subbed the new channel! This sounds like a really healthy (and long time coming) reconciliation in parsing out your multi-faceted, multi-passionate self. I've seen you really struggle with these identities, even from when you first moved to Paris and started getting traction, simply because Paris was now the backdrop of your life. Naturally, your excitement spilled over; why wouldn't you want to share your city with everyone? I do, however, have MANY thoughts about giving up coffee.
Haha. No giving up coffee anytime soon 😆 Thanks for sticking with me all this time 🙏
yes, subscribed to Paris in my Pocket channel and staying here for the Jay dose.
I'll definitely follow both channels. If your past content regarding Paris is any indicator, the new channel will be an absolute must for anyone visiting Paris, even if they have been there several times. Best of luck with your new endeavor! I'll recommend it to all the travelers I know.
Thank youuuuu 🥂
I came for Paris but stayed for you and now I subscribed to Paris in my pocket because of you 😊
Thank you on all counts!
working out is my mental health go to i am an instructor - cycle and aerobics. sunshine and pool time is my 2nd go to mental health go to. good luck watching! love that youre changing it all up.
Congrats on the new channel! Excited for what’s to come!
Thank you!
I came to you just for Paris information and then I got to know you and wanted to know more. I'm back from Paris for two weeks now and still watch you every day.
I have been weight lifting and occasionally other types of exercise mixed in since I was in my 20's. 67 now and love weight lifting the best still, but having to mix in cardio for the heart more. Wish you the best on your life shake up. Shake ups are almost always good to make you stretch and grow. Even the painful ones. Rooting for you and always praying for you!
Thank you! Glad you're here 🙏 And yeah, it's been really nice to change it up so dramatically. Really refreshing.
Great to see you this morning! Yes, you have been quite busy. Best of luck on all of it!!
Thank you!
I came for the Paris, but I stayed for the sad.
😆🥂
I love you for all of it. The travel and the human factor.
Loved every bit of this. Thanks for giving me a few laughs this evening!
Gone but not forgotten Jay, my escapes are dwindling too!
Respect for these efforts. Proper fitness routines, diets, how they affect identity and such. I spent all of yesterday sitting in a theater surviving on popcorn and edibles so i def got ways to go ahh.
Also I do really stay for the personal channel. You have great ability to present your own introspections and it can make me think of my own life in turn. Still subscribing to the other channel though cause I can always appreciate some good recommendations.
Thanks on all counts 🙏 I want popcorn now
Yay! Cooper is back! I missed him SO much! (Sort of missed his guardian, too.) Glad to be subscriber #473 on the new channel. That's a fabulous idea, by the way. Best wishes!
Thank you! Can't wait to get it properly started 🥂
Everything in moderation. Beer coffee and your favourite foods won’t do you any harm as long as you balance them with the good stuff. Phew that was lucky with those keys. I’m always leaving mine in the door - usually when I get home though! Good luck with the new channel. I’ll be subscribing to that as well !
Thank you!
Looking forward to this new path!
Thank you! Me too 🥂
Congrats and subscribed to both now and look forward to any and all content from you!❤
Thank you!
Congrats for 90k 🥳
Thank you 🙌
Congrats on the new channel. Several of my guests also go to Paris and it will be great to point them to your new channel!
Thank you!
The new channel is a great idea. Good luck with it and I happily subscribed. [Still have the original pdf of paris in my pocket on my travel laptop from the last trip to Paris with my wife last year. So helpful.]
Epic throwback there! Thank you for your support 🥂
Yes Jay!!!!! Co grats on that spin off!
I’m enjoy the 20 in 20 series as I prep for trip two to France. Really appreciate you share day trips away from Paris too.
I appreciate that!
I'm here for the second one. I like Paris, too, but I'm here for Jay!! (coming up on 6 years as a patron producer 😁😁)
🙏🥂🙏
How exciting-thanks for all your content. You've been a wonderful resource when we took our first trip to Paris a month ago, but your channel is much more than that. Having a separate channel for Paris stuff will be great, but ensure folks get a taste of both channels at each one, if that makes sense ❤
I'll still be very present in both, for better or worse 😆
@@JaySwanson thank goodness ❤️👍🏻🇫🇷
Subscribed to both!
Thank you!
Pretty cool idea. Can’t wait for all those content 🎞️ 🎥 :)
More to come!
I’ve subscribed to the new channel. Also, can’t wait for the London vlog.
Thank you!
Jay! I never realized the loss aversion connected to food which is probably why I have gained a few pounds. Identity shifting is really an interesting topic.
I'm stoked for your new channel. Brilliant!
Cheers! 😎
We are complex creatures for being such simple beings 😅
Puppy so cute. I'm just here for the puppy content. 😊
haha will keep it coming
I think the new channel is a great idea! Already taking off ☺
Thanks!
Jay:
1) The views for your new Paris in your Pocket Channel will increase tenfold because of the Olympics🥇⚽️🏊🤸🏻
2) I hope that the Paris in Your Pocket T-Shirts will make a come back soon🧢👕
🥂🥂
Just went over and subscribed to your new channel. I'm still subscribed to this channel because I'm interested in both types of content.
Huzzah! 🥂
6:25 OOOOOOOH that’s awesome! Congratulations 🎉
running on the roads I tolerate, running on the trails I love.
🙏
Subscribed!
thanks!
Subscribed! And also not unsubscribing here, because I'm invested in your journey.
Merci!
As a newcomer to this channel, I cannot wait for the new channel. Where do I sign?!?
Link in the description! 🎉🥂🎉
Yeah, he's back😊
🎉🤗🎉
The hardest thing about losing weight/getting healthier is that it's never over. You never get to go back to your old way of eating.
Great idea from someone who actually lives there 👍
I'm here for Cooper..... JK Thanks for all you've done for us travelers Jay and for always responding to all of my questions here and on instagram. I subscribed to the new channel but I'll remain here also!
Thank you!
We can tell that bro is cooking 🔥
😆
Great news, 2 channels 😀 xx
I think so too!
I originally came for the 5 best croissants but now I’m here for the weird stuff 😂
Happy to share the weirdness 😆
When you run/own an online guide to Paris, there’s no getting away from being “the Paris guy”. I’m sure the new channel will be great, would love to see some build up to the olympics on there.
Lots of fun stuff to come 🥂
Long time no see 😅
I still exist 😆
Subbed to the new channel 👍
Thank you!
I quit running by never starting. I win! As I may well be visiting later this year…I’ll have to sub to the new channel…I suppose… Just be a guy in Paris
I hope it helps!
I came for the daily vlog, which was an interesting concept to me, back in the day. I happened to be fascinated by American expats who do it on their own. As I watched, you seemed like a nice young’n, trying to figure life out. Cool. Oh, I get to see a bit of Paris in the background, nice! One of the more recent channels I subscribe to, is by a French woman, living in Paris. It’s more about her trying to awkwardly figure life out. It’s called Cams. By the way, she is single. 😉
As with everything, moderation is key to anything you do. When I was a young rower, 10 years old, I had the urge to row competing. That was a nice sentiment but my body didn't comply. No matter what I did, I never broke a 70kg mark, more than that, if I didn't train, I lost weight fast. Somehow my weight limit holds steady around 62kg +/- 1kg. Today I can live with that, young me had a hard time dealing with it. Stopped rowing at some point in my 20's, switch to flying gliders and had to lug 5-10kg lead every time going up. So yeah, I know how it feels...
My goal really is just to be as healthy as possible for as long as possible. Happy to keep switching it up and enjoy what I have for what it is along the way
Dude why not! You are my Paris guy...
🥂🙏
Quote of the Day: “My brain is completely scrambled.”
Fact
What took you so long! Bravo
3:38 What about our coffee chats with the Tintin mug? 😢
Love the Bombardier Pub
Classic watering hole
@@JaySwanson mostly like a Brit Pub, in an unusual place
Congrats on splitting the channels!!! I know it will do well.
Fingers crossed!
bombardier is my favorite pub
It's a classic
Quit coffee - in my head its an absurd thought... I would die..... I did a big post pandemic diet (55lbs down) and have maintained the loss but it is hard daily work... I eat healthier, eat less and walk 5+ miles per day and it also helps the busy head space. Keep going Jay....
One of my favorite lines "Why are you sad, I just wanted to see the Eiffel Tower".. :)
Great work on your journey! It's not easy but I've found it all very very worth the effort
Honest question: I’m in the market for new EarPods and wanted to know which ones you use for running & calls
Bose's sport ones, good for safe running (you can still hear your environment) but terrible for calls
Jay, are you going back to church ?🎉, you talked about it in a vlog before
"Stop running" is an extremist position some strength trainers push for maximum weight lifting goals. The other extremists are tiny armed distance runners (or bikers) who cannot even lift a barbell because their gym time consists of light resistance machines like you show in your videos. But there is a middle ground where running and lifting heavy weights meet. Strong chest and arms (without extra useless bulk), decent half-marathon times, and a skinny waist are the signs of someone who is doing things right. Be cautious around extremist programs that don't include running and lifting heavy weights. Always incorporate both.
You are the Casey Neistat of France 😂
😆
I never started because I hate it so we're good. LOL
😆😆
4:41 All unsolicited petters will be prosecuted.
The only people who think outdoor running is a good thing are orthopedists seeking job security.
😆
Didn’t you have an uncle die running
No?
That would be quite the reveal
Honestly, I think YOUR relation with the city is so more interestung than the “anodin” videos about touristic spots. Might be not how one makes a living but… so much less interesting à mon avis.
I appreciate that!
Get real about keys and drink beer
Im subbing to the other channel
Thank you!
😎, I followed the link and I am subscribed to it. Is it weird that I subscribed to a channel that doesn’t have any content yet 😂😂😂. Jay see you in a week…
thank you!
