Even Jay Dee said that one of the big reasons he stayed in the basement making records when he was younger was because he wanted to be like Pete. He wanted to be as dope as he was, the sound he was making. When he said that to Pete Im sure Pete said Man, you are the producer im trying to be. 2 Greats that by the grace of God found each other through the music. Onelove ya feel me!
Pete Rock would never say he’s trying to be like Dilla, EVER!!! Please know that. He loved J’s talent and his work, and could have even been inspired by him, but if you’re leading a race, you’re never gonna slow down and jog behind someone that’s trailing you. J. Dilla is one of the ABSOLUTE GREATEST producers ever!!! Upper echelon!!!! And yet he still is not on Pete Rock’s level
@@jammyjam353 ok
Laszlo Dajka yezzir
@@jammyjam353 that very debatable. But remember that sometimes being the best means being prolific. J Dilla is one of the most prolific producer out there...there's a lots of J Dilla beats out there and some of them never been heard b4. Even 9th Wonder I don't think he's on Pete and Dilla's level, but because he put out so many great stuff..he's becoming a legend. I can vouch for both Pete and Dilla..sometimes I get confused who i like the most. But to sum it all up, Pete needs to release all those beat he keeps making.. I don't think there's a producer in New York who has found some of the rarest records than Pete Rock. Pete Rock is serious record digga.
buggin
Sampling/ crate digging is a damn art and should be honored. I mean, look at all the old artists' records that have been completely forgotten over time and thanks to producers like this they're being brought back to life and are being remembered.
Well Stated 💯
Pete is the one who started that echoing saxophone technique that many hip hop songs used back in like 1992-96.
Word. It became a staple after he introduced it.
Please get Madlib to do one of these!
This should have been an hour long joint with Pete yo!
guess from somewhere where you know what's right
@@johnreder8167 word
Yeah, this was crazy short.
Pete Rock needs to get back with C.L. Smooth. They've been apart for 26 years already, word is bond.
Well... you probably mean “record wise”. Because 2017 they were on Tour together.
Lol
Pete you're the best, but your eyes tell me you're tired every single day from all that hard working.
it's hard being a triple threat (hes a dj, rapper and producer)
Neh. Dude looks faded
Ain't nothin wrong with gettin weeded.
this is fucking beautiful.. i love seeing people be immersed in their passion
He could stack every record on top of each other, he would still be higher.
Bless to the god...but damn Pete...u was wild blunted on this one brother
Yo, I copped "Mecca And The Soul Brother" on cassette (dating myself) when it came out. I can still see myself chilling in the food court, unwrapping the plastic from the tape, popping it into my Walkman and soaking it all in. Looking back, that was probably a turning point in my life. Hip Hop was going to be my future.
Music Power was the same for me..
Greatest feeling to buy a tape and pop it in the walkman or tape deck we came up in an amazing era the smell of a new cassette was euphoric and intoxicating 💯🔥🙌
I know that feeling!
pete rock, greatest of all time

Pete Rock is the man! Digging in the crates reminds me of break hunting with the legendary Tony D AKA Harvey Walbanger. May he Rest in peace. Big up to real hip hop and beat making!
This video is making me want to go digging again.
Props to Pete.
Still one of the best to ever do it. Even his Petestrumentals are headnod certified.
The dopest MCs all were interviewed up in the books named *HOW TO RAP* and *HOW TO RAP 2*.
Everybody from Mobb Deep to Hieroglyphics to Pharcyde, to Kool G Rap, Chuck D, Black Moon, and Big Daddy Kane were interviewed, and others.
aint heard of them books todd.
That "Its A New Day" song on the Skull Snaps record revolutionised hip hop drums in general. Countless songs used It as either key or integral parts of the beat. Thanks Fuse for this great video. Peace.
cmon dude, six minuts for pete?
Exactly my thoughts, should of had at least 20 minutes. You know pete was just gettin started!!
shoot put up the outtakes!
It was either six minutes or all fukn day. Ain't nobody got all fukn day.
I got all day for the culture.
Making beats , shows you that there is infinite possibilities and there is no limits infinite thoughts , you can make thousands of different beats from same sample.
That beat that was playing when Pete was talking about the Skull Snaps album...whoa!!!
I really miss the jazz element in hiphop music. Pete Rock was known for this and thats why I love him as a producer, he's also a great rapper as well.
I love Pete Rock!! He is my favorite producer and such a cool, humble dude. Much respect to you Pete, you the best!!!

EPMD - It's My Thing Pete Rock, you're one of the best producers in the history of Hip Hop. Respect for life brother.
It just occurred to me that Pete Rock is Tyler the Creators dad. I was looking at pic for the video thinking "Huh, Pete Rock looks kinda like an old Tyler" and then when he talked it hit me. Get these niggas on Maury
haha he's absoloutely not the father of that stupid POS
This is the best youtube comment I've ever seen. hahahaha
tijash barreno Hey you stole my profile picture wtf man
Best producer alive!
The added information about who else used the sample is really an excellent idea.
Much RESPECT. Seeing this collection, makes my 2k look tiny.
When you see tell music cover, originalPazzant brothers you know the score.
Pete knows the music.
Pete and premo are 1 A&B all time greatest 🔥
HA. Glad to help. Thanks for supporting the series. We got more on the way.
that beat at 3:30 really caught me
Pete Rock will forever be a HipHop Legend!!!!!
AMAZING COLLECTION!!! U GOT DA FUNK BRO!!!PEACE!!
Man, I respect you all legends out there, for digging and producing fine fold out of golden stuff, but can't imagine myself collecting so many records. I just want to open that FL Studio or Reason and do some synth beats and find my happiness in 1-2 hours out of my time. BUT, I ADMIRE YOU CRATE DIGGERS - YOU THE REAL ART REPRESENTATIVES AND BECAUSE OF YOU, REAL HIP-HOP IS SUCH A WONDERFUL PLACE TO BE (Peace and unity, no beefs and roasts or pop and corns).
Lmaoo at his shock when the guy asked what kind of music the skull snaps record is
Peace Soulbrother #1 Pete Rock...
One Love...
I haven't even watched this yet I'm typing a message!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Are you safe?
Dwight Arrington Myers R.i.p.
This would have been so much better with a snippet from each record he pulled out.
Pete Rock is the Greatest
top five greatest of all time ...nuff said !
Definetly loving it. COLLECTION OF THES ONE FROM PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS!!!!
I like the Solar Records shirt
Looks like my Bat Cave at home. Go to Ikea and invest in some shelves. Get that vinyl outta those crates and off the floor. P. Rock is da man.
100.000 Records..Some Epic numbers.
Yeah, I feel exacty the same way. Most people have no clue and those that do,don't really understand.
Thanks for the suggestions. Will look into it.
This is a dope series. But I really wish they could spend more time with each artist.
I would love for them to play some of the records, maybe two or three of their famous samples and two or three others that they didn’t sample.
I understand that the producers don’t want to give up some of their unused germs, but anything that they would be comfortable playing for the viewer would be dope.
That’s a very logical thought, I agree.
i know right!!!! unbelievable...
pete rock pt 2 now!
Inspirational Legend
Sick video. Thanks. Pete has a nice taste god damn. Love his instrumental albums! No.1 no doubt.
Great videos! Please do a feature on Diamond D & DITC. The samples he used and music he produced on his classic Stunts Blunts & Hip Hop is a treasure chest worth revisiting. Thx!
2:42 gotta love him for that
If it wasn't for the pioneers these albums would be in landfills and lost forever. Now these unknown artist can live on.
WTF! He got that tele music compilation! sick man. gotta love pete rock!
I love Pete and Prem, but I think Pete is THE mastermind when it comes to music. I think there`s NO producer and there`s never been a producer who has that much knowledge of music. Pete is def. #1 when it comes to knowledge and experience!!!!
Easy Mo Bee, DJ Premier, Erick Sermon, Biz Markie
inspiration.
ONE OF THE BEST!!!
I think Crate Diggers should do a "Making Of LP Episode". For example, for NaS "ILLMATIC". Interview each producer and have them speak in detail about how they met NaS, the process behind finding the sample, producing the beat and recording the song and how they felt once it made the final track listing. This would also be cool for "READY TO DIE" and "REASONABLE DOUBT".
3:45 Pete Rock Reviewing The Skull Snaps LP Album Including It's A New Day ( 2012 )

ABC/Blue Thumb. If you see a copy look at the lower right corner of the jacket. If there is no blue thumb print next to the ABC in circle between two bars logo, it is a repress.

I second the request for Thes One's collection. Madlib too...
