***** God forbid they distribute it on the internet, like, oh, idk, Radiohead did a few years back selling just short of 4 million digital downloads at about 8 bucks a pop. You do the math.
"Sometimes you spend $35-40 dollars for a record that you're kinda like "ahhhh it didn't really have anything on it" and sometimes you spend a dollar for the best record you've ever had in your life." TRUTH
I am realising that there is a nerd streak in many of the DJ's and I mean that cheerfully. Their collection of vinyl makes them a bibliophile of sorts.
Imagine being Jeff's original emcee and sitting at home watching Will Smith on TV. I'll bet any money that guy probably missed that house party running after some chick.
Man I did that too. Saving lunch money to buy 12" Singles from the Record Arcade. I thought about getting rid of my vinyl after I digitized it but couldn't do it. That's loving the music right there.
He went to Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh. I went once and it was memorable. 2 of us bought so many records, we ran out of cash at closing time. He took a down payment, we left town and sent a money order the next day and they shipped every record. One of the best record stores I have ever been to.
Understand this: In Philly in the early 80's, DJ Jazzy Jeff was GOD. People would talk about his parties, describe his sets & turntablism, in tones of a legend. Him & DJ Ca$h Money were the titans of all DJ's like Zeus and Posiden, doing thing thought impossible (which is why they won the DMC World DJ battles back-to-back). Yet he the coolest, humblest man you could ever meet. Warm cat who's very patient with people. Just happens to be The Magnificent.
I absolutely love this brother!!! He has a humbles yet genius demeanor. He has mastered the art of turntable music and his natural ability has made him a hip hop legend!
Jazz was one of the first DJ's to influence this suburban whiteboy into a Hip Hop maniac :] I remember seeing Jazz at Funk O Mart and Armand's a couple of time in the early 90's and I was too shy to say anything. Got your "Touch of Jazz" 12" to this day. I still play it!
This is one of the best HIP HOP videos I have seen on youtube Jeff I remember when he use to do block partys back in the 215. And say what you wnat about the man but he embodies what every dj wants in this game LONGEVITY so respect the dj and this culture we call HIP HOP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow, a real nice video about a real cool musician and dj. Thanks for making it possible to watch this :-) Jazzy jeff... Among the first influences in hiphop when i was really young. And isn´t it amazing how cool and laid back he seems to be? Thanks for that vid. Love it!
Amen. I totally identified with him when he said he'd searched for and bought a record only to discover he already had it. I've done that........a lot !!! :-)
Great to see him still looking good! Glad he is not ruining his life with drugs and such. At least it "looks" like he is taking care of himself. Love Jazzy J.
I'm from Pittsburgh that sounds like Jerry's Records in Squirrel Hill. Jerry does that a lot he'll look at your pile and say give me $100 or whatever. That's my man Jerry he has the biggest vinyl collection next to my boy Fred owner of The Attic Records Store in Millvale. Great guys and crew.
9:05! That Deep Concentration album in the background! I have that album. I always thought it was a random best of album with hip hop and soul. I guess I gotta read up on it. I forgot I had that record. It's funny Jazzy displays it like that.
I know what you mean fella. What's even more tragic is when someone breaks into your house and steals your collection, put together over years. Jazzy mentions Mahavishnu Orchestra - magnificent!!
The first time I watched this episode, my girlfriend was in the room - she actually laughed when he says the bit about, "I bet, if a guy collects records, I guarentee he's into sneakers too..." Guilty as charged.
my parents use to get so upset with my records and equipment taking over the front den lol!! And yell when the music was too loud lol!!! Ahhh, when I was a 16yr old in '93 NYC
8:37, when he's holding the Stan Getz/Luis something - Jazz Samba record and talking about his love of brazilian samba...... that's the point where i identify with Jeff most. i love that i could inherit all my samba records cause i could never afford to buy them if i went digging.
Shiiiiiiiit I'm dj cranium and I'm a crate digger. Nothing can replace vinyl it means to much a mp3 can be deleted and re downloaded . Vinyl has so many things going for it and was the best era of djing before mp3s and cds came out .
that first night hes talking about collabing with fresh prince, the entire city knew about it within 48 hours. it was the most classic mixtape you ever heard. raw hip hop. everyone you knew claimed to be there when it went down. of course, it was a lie. it was impossible for that many people to have witnessed it because it was a house party, lol. but getting your hand on that tape made you a king.
I dont get what hes referring to at 8:52 when he says "if they collect records, I guarantee they have sneakers" is that just a random statement he threw in? Or am i missing a meaning here? cuz right after that he talks about dials and what not soooo Im confused
Thats so true when Jazzy Jeff says about when he put out some of his records in the trash they will all be gone before the trash men get there. I remember years ago a charity shop near me threw out over a 1000 records me and my boys took all of them. :-)
"An artist can make an album without a record label but a record label cannot make an album without an artist." - Dj Jazzy Jeff.

You didn't know that Jeff had a full scholarship to MIT

GMF reminds me of Rodney Mullen (skater) who invented the Ollie
Imagine being in a record store and seeing Jazzy Jeff, J Dilla, and Kenny Dope at the same time! I've would've passed out!!!!!!
Imagine being Jeff's original emcee and sitting at home watching Will Smith on TV. I'll bet any money that guy probably missed that house party running after some chick.

Ohhhhh wow I dint know his older bother played for the Intruders. That explains a lot... Love DJ Jazzy Jeff's work ....
Awesome! That he is well spoken, knowledgeable, and seemingly down to earth is obvious. Meeting him is now on the bucket list.

I could listen to his stories all day. Good guy.
Beautiful vibrations here for all people....thank you so much for the positive...
Love Jeff's ending statement. Don't fight it. I did that yrs ago, and unfortunately it had to take family drama to realize that.
Henry Featherstone he didn’t fight Uncle Phil lol
Amen. I totally identified with him when he said he'd searched for and bought a record only to discover he already had it. I've done that........a lot !!! :-)

DJ Jazzy Jeff, I blame you for my music addiction. Thanks Bro!

O yes the great vinyl stores of Pittsburgh! Not many but what they do got is great!
Thank you Jeff for making me the DJ I am today.
I was waiting for a clip from the show showing Uncle Phil throwing Jazz out the door!! Lol
!!!!Respect DJ Jazzy Jeff!!!! Dope post!!!!
I have 45's beside my bed that I'll never throw away. All my music is digital now but will always look @ & ❤ my 45's and the 45 stand that they're in!
I know what you mean fella. What's even more tragic is when someone breaks into your house and steals your collection, put together over years.
Jazzy mentions Mahavishnu Orchestra - magnificent!!
One of my favorite episodes thus far !! Pete Rock showed some serious vinyl !! One of the best dj's in the game !!
This is the longest I've ever seen him talk without Uncle Phil throwing him out the front door.
In the top 3 of dopest DJ's
Homebase is still one of my most sought after vinyl records.
Go to Discogs. It's easy to find, but very expensive, lol.
The first time I watched this episode, my girlfriend was in the room - she actually laughed when he says the bit about, "I bet, if a guy collects records, I guarentee he's into sneakers too..." Guilty as charged.
Classic Philly! If ya don't know now ya now! One of the best ever to do it!
This reminds me of the "Whats in my bag" segment where musicians talk about their favorite albums, no mp3, and then i go on ebay and buy em all.
my parents use to get so upset with my records and equipment taking over the front den lol!! And yell when the music was too loud lol!!! Ahhh, when I was a 16yr old in '93 NYC
This series is some of the most hiip hop stuff I've ever seen.

Jazzy shows respect to Madlib, another crate digger and producer virtuoso.

Another Legend Respect!
All because he has two of the Records that I like. Gang Starr's Full Clip and Bill Cosby's Why Is There Air.
that first night hes talking about collabing with fresh prince, the entire city knew about it within 48 hours. it was the most classic mixtape you ever heard. raw hip hop. everyone you knew claimed to be there when it went down. of course, it was a lie. it was impossible for that many people to have witnessed it because it was a house party, lol. but getting your hand on that tape made you a king.
Love that shirt! This guy is a living Legend!
Accepting who you are-as a crate digger. Words.
I got most of my vinyl out the trash...lol I grew up poor, that was a blessing to me back then.
he still kept a MX 2200 in the box! That's what's up! Still got mine though!
I dont get what hes referring to at 8:52 when he says "if they collect records, I guarantee they have sneakers" is that just a random statement he threw in? Or am i missing a meaning here? cuz right after that he talks about dials and what not soooo Im confused
Great presentation from a classy dude. Peace Jeff!!
the music aint loud enough! damn i havent thought of that in years! gotta get it!
Thats so true when Jazzy Jeff says about when he put out some of his records in the trash they will all be gone before the trash men get there. I remember years ago a charity shop near me threw out over a 1000 records me and my boys took all of them. :-)
legend. unbelievable skill.
