+envirosponsible Where can you get that info? Or it's entirely based on knowing the structure yourself and knowing the track and done via manually (as far as physical copies go).
I had to figure the BPM out on my own WTF. I remember when they first were trying to put accurate BPM counters on mixers. Or ones you would have to tap to the beat and it would count them out off of that. Serato's pretty damn accurate unless it doubles the BPM on you. Which it loves doing that when you start dealing with music where the BPM shifts due to live drumming.
Good to know David : ). You look around you and it's like no one even knows vinyl existed! Love how these guys have such care for the vinyl they collected, on top of all the great stories!
I remember seeing him play at bar smith in phx a couple of years ago. The club closed at 2am but he kept rocking the party until the club pulled the plug literally lol ending his set close to 3am. Hahaha dope night
@StylistRhymist... Chill out man...this man has accomplished a lot in the world of djing. If his style doesn't suit your taste, so be it,but that doesn't mean he sucks. Uneasy listening was the type of mix tape I was putting together at the time and he brought that style to the masses which in turn helped me out. Much respect.
I figured Shadow would be on here, but regardless, the shot of him sitting in that basement full of vinyl in the doc I mention above is insane.. Looks like the vinyl goes on forever.. Anyway, this show is very interesting to see how different DJs care about different things and to see the ranges of their collections and what they treasure.. Thanks FUSE...
The name of the "ice cream record shop in santa fe" was actually "Charlie's" in Albuquerque. Same state, different cities They took out the ice cream and soda's though :(. oh well, more room for more records!
I know quite a few deep, deep record collectors (10,000+) and I've never heard of plastic sleeves being bad for the records. What you might be thinking of is original shrink wrap which is skin tight and couldn't possibly cause warping on cheaper presses when the plastic contracts. One thing I've noticed on brand new plastic sleeves is static which could potentially mess up your equipment, but slip mats have static too so that probably isn't a huge concern.
it works for albums if you only usually play a certain song from it, but it can get confusing and you gotta make some decisions about where things go. I like to organize by bpm for some stuff, but not everything.
Oh yeah... Incredible Battenburg Band! Got it ages ago, then cropped up a brand new one in a charity shop (thrift store, if you're over in the states) not so long ago. Which is ace as my original one has been battered over the years... Ripped it if you want wavs....
Very interesting blind sighted record pick, going straight to heaven. This guy has truly found his heaven. This pick was NOT a coincidence. Very profound moment despite the fact that the actual group and song are a bit mellow dramatic. I wonder if he drinks Monster Energy Drinks and if he is planning to release a t-shirt with the word DOPE on it? He actually was intent on setting up Monster to get sued by the Beastie Boys as he saw a residual, undisclosed amount from the law suit victory.
whoah, this is dope as hell. lovin it. ....I'm very happy to see those Sesame Street / Warriors / Escape From NY albums... I've got them as well! I'd love that Eazy E though! :)
It can actually warp the record over time. IF & only if you have unopened mint vinyl, then keep it that way. Otherwise if you are using the records on the daily & they are beat up, strip the plastic off. If you store them well & they are in great condition, don't worry so much. I've got over 25K so I've learned 1sthand over the years just how to F$%^ up some vinyl. Lol
Sorry it took me so long to respond but it can warp the record over time. Not sure why but I know for sure it is better without the plastic sleeve. Also just a FYI for people that dont know.Always store your records upright.Never laid them down to store. :)
Z Trip personally gave me one of his cd's when he was down under. it still blows me away. At the beginning he mixes janis joplin with dj shadow. It still gives me goose bumps. word to Z trip!
Awesome Video!! Superior Knowledge on History of Vinyl & Influence of Artists. Definitely took me to School! Yeah, the Feeling of Digging in the Record Store - We all been there losing track of time. Nice collection, of course!!
i got inspired, and now have an exclusive crate diggers on my channel. this guy blew my mind back in the day when I heard Rockstar on the Return of the DJ comp.
Z Trip is the fuckin' man! I just spent the past fifteen minutes glued to my computer screen, and now I'm gonna watch the rest of the Crate Diggers episodes. Please keep doing these!
THAT'S WHAT'S UP.... CARPENTER WENT TO TOWN ON THAT SCORE FOR "ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK" AND Z TRIP SITS ON THREE COPIES OF IT..... PROBABLY MORE SINCE THE AIRING OF THE SEGMENT.
I love these vinyl segments. Makes me feel I'm not alone.
Michael Jackson said it best: you are not alone
a legend in his own right & the last of a dying breed. Much Love from Arizona....
This guy's collection makes the most sense to me in terms of how he has it organized. It's all about the BPM for me.
+envirosponsible Where can you get that info? Or it's entirely based on knowing the structure yourself and knowing the track and done via manually (as far as physical copies go).
+JJ, M. I use all digital files so Serato has the bpm for each song. It's harder with records but can be done with a stopwatch and calculator.

i do the BPM thing too.
I love this series, please give us more.
Great videos fuse, thanks for putting them on youtube for all to see. We owe you!
Thank you Z-Trip!
Anywhere they're not, that's where I would be. Love ztrip for this attitude. It shows in his mixes too. The obey mix is one of my favorites.
I remember seeing him play at bar smith in phx a couple of years ago. The club closed at 2am but he kept rocking the party until the club pulled the plug literally lol ending his set close to 3am. Hahaha dope night
omnicron701, awesome! I have fond memories of seeing Z-Trip many times back in the 90s. Bombshelter DJs were the shit back then in PHX.
WOW! I felt so proud at 9:03!

You guys should have made this an hour long he would of had enough stories for the whole thing! haha seems like a mad dude, crazy collection.
I figured Shadow would be on here, but regardless, the shot of him sitting in that basement full of vinyl in the doc I mention above is insane.. Looks like the vinyl goes on forever.. I could watch him do this for hours. He still still holds the crown for best live show I've ever seen. Ever.
You can always tell a dj by the way they handle their records.
In a way that would make an audiophile cut their hands off.
The name of the "ice cream record shop in santa fe" was actually "Charlie's" in Albuquerque. Same state, different cities They took out the ice cream and soda's though :(. oh well, more room for more records!
Thanks! We're working on it!
Comes across as the nicest guy out of this whole series.
I remember meeting this cat back in 1999 at Cold Crush BBoy Jam in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Cool fnckin' dude!

I had that Star Wars story record! Still think you need to finish your kids album. Do it before my daughter grows up.
Hanging for a DJ Shadow episode...

Z-trip was on the SCRATCH documentary (can find it here on youtube).

Z-trip is a cool cat.

I probably heard music or beats he produced just don't know what they are, I saw him on a DJ documentary
Hello, what would be an acceptable price to you for your collection of vinyl. Regards Paul from Czech Republic
😂
i know that feel bro:
what is. that track at "0:25 - 0:33" please. .
Shawn Mkandla idk u tell me
Because a show about regular record collectors would be pretty boring. Plus this is a good show for Hip Dj's and more importantly for Hip Hop heads.
❤️
subscribed to this shittttttttttt

Dear Fuse
Please stop censoring these.
Nobody cares about somebody saying the word "shit".
Thank You
You seriously beeping swear words?
Man, he needs to stop molesting the playing surface.
So in general are acetates worth more than vinyl? Reason I ask is I have a Biggie acetate...
Yeah dude!
That is probably a test pressing then...that's priceless.
Do you know what track it is??
The way he describes walking into the S.F. Amoeba Records for the first time, is exactly how I felt too. Vinyl heaven.
"That was the moment, I got Quest Love validation on some Sesame Street shit."
I lost 2 relationships over the love of hip hop/producing/djing. I got married and lost my relationship with hip hop/producing/djing. Sad I know.
Vagina sadly always trumps all
Love this guy, he's so humble.
Z Trip personally gave me one of his cd's when he was down under. it still blows me away. At the beginning he mixes janis joplin with dj shadow. It still gives me goose bumps. word to Z trip!
