I could listen to Jello talk all day.
notquiteafembot jello has a soothing voice..
+notquiteafembot He really needs a podcast
@@firstlast-wg2on I know your comment is 4yrs old, but : He has a youtube series called "What would Jello Do"
He does like to talk. :D
me too
I love the way he pulls the records out of their see through covers and displays them to us them properly.
Stoked the great Jello Biafra is a cat man.
DOG BITE!!!!
Cat lovers are rarely psychopaths good sign ;)
@@BTsMusicChannel on my leg....its not right, supposed to beeeg
Jello biafra marxista ,idiota
Biafra and Blaze😁🐱
This has got to be one of the coolest collections I've ever seen . Rare eccentric and genius sounds. I'd expect no less from Mr. Jello B.
It's always nice to hear Jello talk about something other then politics, it's actually rare for him. And he was spot on about people who live in one era of music. Great video of Jello!
I'll listen to any era of music but not after 2000. There are only a handful bands modern bands that I can get into these days.
I agree not a fan of his political rants, but this was really cool! He should do a podcast series on his collection, kind of a continuation of this video, he could have unlimited content with all that vinyl.
Leigh Foulkes I’m not telling you what to listen to or like, but seriously, there are a FUCK TON of great bands making music post-2000, whether they started in the 20th century, like Jello, or didn’t start putting music out till the 21st century, there are a ton of bands making great music today. In fact, I’d say that 2019 was probably my favorite year of the decade, rivaled maybe only by 2011, for discovering great bands and albums. The trick is 99% of these bands are underground, and/or basically the type of thing you have to be lucky enough to stumble upon, and that’s only going to happen if you’re looking for them!
Seriously though, it’s easier for people to put out an album now than at any time in history, and that absolutely leads to a market and/or various scenes saturated with ABSOLUTE SHIT, but it also means a ton of really talented people are getting their music out, especially via platforms like bandcamp, etc, who couldn’t have gotten it out pre-internet takeover, and “destruction” of the industry. Also, via streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music (what I use) people have easier, cheaper access to that music, though I still think we should be buying the records we love, not only for better quality, but to support the artist.
To be sure, I think that’s all a serious double edged swords, with lots of drawbacks, like any technological changes tend to be, but one of the great positives is there’s so much great music getting out out right now, to the point I actually have despaired the last couple years bc it’s just not possible to listen to all of it.
I like his politics
I mean, he is a musician after all…
I like that he was honest enough (near the end) to say that you don't need to go digging through vinyl these days to get the same rare listening experiences he's been chasing since he was a kid. A lot of record collectors are bullshitters, but Jello isn't
12:46 the most jello moment of this whole thing LMAO... "IT SAYS SO RIGHT HERE YOU STUPID CLOWNS!!!"
who else paused this video like a billion times to go listen to a full album at a time then come back, and has had the tab open for three hours?
Ha! I just started - but I already listened to Space Ritual by Hawkwind... Oh God how long will all this take?
hydorah Did you like it?
@@donlebo6824 It was blurry, indistinct, weird, wobbly and very spacey. Yeah it was cool
hydorah Yeah, I have that one. You get into krautrock? Stuff like Can, Faust, Amon Duul etc.
hydorah Dude, keep exploring Hawkwind! They have a bunch of albums worth checking out, a few of which are 70s essentials imo. Also, if you’ve not checked them out, basically every band Don just mentioned have at least one essential album (or several, like Can). ✌️
honestly I was so waiting to hear about that cat.
also so great to hear jello talk music.
You must never change your username
hawkwind's space ritual his second favorite record ever!
I love how happy he gets to just simply talk about all of his vinyls I looooove it this is how I get when I talk about my very small collection
Can be hard to find people who even know alot of music to talk about
im with ya. im 58 and i have ±300 LPs currently. i had many more than that, but then i had 4 kids. i have the ones of those they didn't want. Rebuilding is expensive or slow, but either way, vinyl shopping is a day well spent...that and checking out used guitars and gear.
I want to hear Jello talk about:
The Smiths
90s Hip-hop
Definitely 'The Smiths'
I'm gonna bet he doesn't like the Smiths cause on one of his spoken word albums he's talking about homophobic music censorship and he says "I'd even rather people listen to *Morrissey* than this Christian homophobia"
"...including most of the Dead Kennedys songs."
True, but he had to throw that in there. LOL!
Jellos voice an explanation of everything is so dreamy cool. One of the top 3 punk song lyric writers in history.
Great guy & he always has a fresh/progressive out look that I like. He's definitely not snobbish.
I am 47 .. I HAVE LOVED.. AND. I STILL LOVE JELLO!! Jello Biafra, that is!! Loyalty & LOVING!!
Totally agree. I went on RUclips looking for Iranian psychedelic rock, and I found exactly what i was looking for, and more. There is no better age then now for music exploration.
I took notes of some of the records you mentioned in these two videos... gonna go look for them now. Thanks, Jello!
Jello is an absolute legend. Shaped my teenage years. His courage and tenacity through the years are equally as inspiring as his music legacy.
One of the most authentic and amazing celebrities of all time. Thank you Jello!!!
Jello is an absolute treasure! Love this interview 🙌
"Wanna have something to hold on to..." Exactly. The thing about digital music is that there are no liner notes or interesting art. It's so heartwarming that vinyl has prevailed through all of the audio changes.
And his comment about being stuck? Yes. Though my preference may be late 70s punk and early 90s, there is always great music of any style in any era if you take the time to look and listen. Keeping your head out of your ass/era compels positive mental growth.
Jello is the best. He is so intelligent and fun.
I love Jello so much. He's giving off a Dr. Jacoby from Twin Peaks vibe here.
YES! Exactly
He is such a great story teller... guess thats why his songs are so visual and engaging :)
Jello seems like a cool guy.
I also didn't expect a guy who made punk music to have such a diverse taste in music.
why not? punk steals from everywhere. the dead kennedys are totally surf music gone bad. punk requires more intelligence than a lot of music, and it usually favors democratic values -- especially equality and justice. maybe you are not getting this. you should listen to more punk and learn. fucking john doe form x plays country now -- and not he bullshit country you hear on the radio!!
@@BTsMusicChannel whatever, hippie
@@petrospoutsa9270 OK boomer.
@@petrospoutsa9270 Calm down, douchie.
@ Eh...i figure if i get trolled, i troll back and see what happens. :D
I have liked Jello since the beginning.
At the end of the video, we can see a MAGMA's LP. MAGMA is a french band. They started in 1969. Still touring in 2020. Tanks for posting this. I love Dead Kennedys . Phil from France
He loves Hawkwind but hates Yes? Jello is so unique.
Er...doesn't everyone? LoL
Kelly Moon whats your point? He knows yes suck and hawkwind are great.
Uh...one had Lemmy...one didn’t...cool points
Hawkwind and Yes aren't even remotely similar
That MAGMA record at the end! Amazing.
So much of a reasonable, in touch with reality HUMAN BEING, that makes one wanna cry tears of joy!
Jello, really cool guy to be around. I met him after a Iggy Pop concert in San Francisco in the middle of the crowd. He was nothing but super nice. I had a great time.
Yo Jello, sounds like you should have a record podcast
OMG Mort Garson's Plantasia is one of my fave albums NICE.
when you talk to Jello, you're gonna need a part 2 ... oh here it is.
Such an absolute legend. Thank you for this video and a bit of insight into his personal tastes.
I remember seeing Dead Kennedy's at a roller skating rink in Montreal called The Palladium. It was one of the greatest shows that I have ever seen!
I was there too. It was on rue Berri near the old Voyagier bus depot. What was the name of that alternative record shop on St Laurent and du Maisonneuve just below the Army Surplus ??
Across from Metro St Laurent.
No Policy and My Dog Popper also played. Lol
@@johngore7744 It was called "Dutchy's Record Cave"
The selection was great but the prices were extremely high!
Magma! Also, those Strange Music books on his bed are excellent! Jello has a chapter where he goes through some of the albums listed here in greater/funnier detail.
OFF! Wasted Years, and GSOM! The Audacity of Hype. My favorites.
I totally despise the collectors he's describing at 7:20.
I'd love to hang out with this guy for a day. I've always saw him as a huge voice that needs to be heard more. Very intelligent and driven individual. I think its cool all the punky junkies are dead and Jello's prediction came true.
mquirk00 Fuck Yeah! Those two bands are the stuff!
I like this Jello alot
A vinyl addiction. WOW this man has lived clean and great to this day. Very clever man and some of my favourite rock music even now. This video was a greta insight into a very humble mans life.....Reminds me of Lemmy in many respects.
I can't believe I just found this. Fantastic stuff.
Viva La Biafra! Along with Iggy, Lou & The Cramps, he's one of America's TRUE R 'n' R treasures!
I myself & I got into "thrift store music" (we call them "Opportunity Shoppes" here in Enzed) thanx to growing increasingly bored with what was passing for pop & rock music circa 1990 (generally considered one of THE worst years, despite the beginning of 'Madchester', but I digress...), including having my eyes opened to all this crazy-arse "lost" music from the '50s & '60s thanx to the brillo 'Born Bad' series of albums featuring 'Music The Cramps Taught Us'.
Also, both book volumes of ReSearch Magazine's 'Incredibly Strange Music' became my unholy bibles, though I thought back in the '90s that I'd NEVER get to axually HEAR Little Marcy, Heino, Mrs Miller, et al. But then along came this wee thing called 'The Internet', & I discovered Audiogalaxy - one of the better file-sharing sites that sprang up after the RIAA stupidly killed Napster, and joy of joys, a musician (whose name I forget) had started an 'Incredibly Strange Music' GROUP there - HOORAY!
A year or 2 later, I also moved up the coast from sWellington to Paraparaumu, and discovered a giant 2-storey second-hand warehouse who had more regular dumpings of oddball vinyl at $1 a pop than you could shake a Shaggs album at!
Anyway, to cut a boring story long, collecting "unusual" music was pretty damn easy (and stress-free!) for me, as most vinyl collectors I'd see flicking through the musty boxes at Sallie Army stores disdained such LPs as 'Tony (Bennett) Plays the Hit Songs of Today', or kids' music 45s & albums - MORONS! Lmao!
I love this, knowing someone I looked up to went record shopping the same way I did. Awesome.
I could listen to jello talk about music all day!! Why is it so soothing😂😂😂
Great stuff here, love to see Jello's enthusiasm and his collection and knowledge are impressive.
I have that Sun-Ra Batman album in my collection... passed down from my uncle... its scratchy but that adds to the charm
it kind of annoys me to say it but the you-tube algorithm is fuckin great for finding new music .
Vinyl addiction is a serious thing. Can't wait to get a super good system so I don't have to use Bluetooth all the time. And I don't like jello but I love jello Biafra. You can tell that he's extremely proud of his music, and he should be.
Dude, dangerhouse is one of my faves as well, always some thing cool to find!
This was wonderful. Thanks
Never would have thought Jello would be a Hawkwind fan. He's one cool M.F.!!
Glad I found this. Excellent watch.
The two books on Jello's bed are ""Incredibly Strange Music," Vol. I and II respectively, from Re/Search publications. In Volume 1, Jello is interviewed about a lot of these records and more. Volume II has a great Cramps interview on their favs. Both worth checking out if you're a vinyl junkie.
+frdh1357 That Cramps interview is fantastic.
thank you JB... LEGEND!
Thanks Jello. Sanity and a good friend I never met.
I really enjoyed the show Jello, cheers.
Awesome episode. And in the end you see a Magma record and Monster Magnet's Superjudge laying there.
Magma on the bed at the end there. Nice record that one.
That's it! I'ma go listen to some Dr. Demento in the barn!!!
A true classic.Bob Marley and Bunny Wailer had to be 58-59...probably very rare cover.First edition.Jello you got some great vinyl...what a genius!!
Just another red and blue all seeing eye kind of day for Jello! I love the guy......whoever he really is! Hahaha
i own that tumor circus single and i love the idea behind it! bought it used and i like how the limited edition label was picked at in the corner as if the disappointed original owner was trying to look behind it, or maybe clean up the picture sleeve, but finally realizing the joke was on him, he gave up and obviously parted with it!
Every time the dead Kennedys played a show in St. Louis Missouri it made our lives the kids from the local scene just that much better could’ve been for a few days a week the entire month a couple of months who knows and it’s great to keep following you ,Jello- until today and onward .
that was an education. fascinating. i was a bit sad when the cut off that bit about the Wailer's record so abruptly though. I didn't want it to end
I just wanna talk and hangout with this man for days. I'm up to 400-something albums now, but I'll get to this level somewhere.
Great to see those 'research' books. I have them too. It's how i started my collection.
Re/Search is still publishing cool books and zines!
I love that man
I like Jello’s cat
But where is moonunit?
I have, and love that Kabuki lp!! Great stuff!
Whats the record called exactly? I'd love to hear it.
loved this
Very good interview; i love Jello.
my childhood wtf album. Im going to listen to the bullfrog and butterflies.
I love your choices
Wow, made my day ,Space Ritual- Hawkwind, one my top fav bands , his second most liked album, cool Jello, UK, we love ya .John Lydon,Sex Pistols said he love The Hawks too, travelled all round country to see them, true space rock ,like no other band
Thank you Jello Biafra for everything, Dead Kennedys changed my life, which has not been easy because I am not easy, but I would not have had it any other way! Really ugly beauty that turned the corpse over and said to me: Look, there is the other side of things child.
He’s still the best - so glad he’s a fanboy - Hawkwind is his number two album of all time - wouldn’t have thought that back in 82!
An Hawkwind fan, plus he wrote one of the best Punk albums ever created. Top Man.
oh my god I HAVE THAT KUBUKI record
I’d never be away from the guys store if he had one, he’s such a interesting guy!
8:18 Batman!! I have this one, mostly fun surf instrumentals that have nothing to do with Batman.
Jello is an absolute lad
Jello is a key figure in my personal formation of thought.
He held so little as “scared” and that intrigued me
Dope! Going to put these in my Daily Vlog!
As a child I was stuck listening to "Lawrence Welk and Hee Haw".. Those were the days..
the Man is a scholar a gentleman AND a historian
I liked this 2 parter with Jello. I think it’s the only interview-type thing where he comes across as being mostly okay. When I interviewed him backstage at the 688 Club, he was still playing the role.
Jello Biafra is a Bob Marley fan 😱, this makes me like him even more. Never heard stuff by Yes, cannot say I like them or not. I'm starting to listen to older rock, mostly because I am tired of the crap being played on the radio nowadays.
haha.... looove the Marlin Wallace rap at 1:25 f. Now I want that record, just for the back-side story.
13:52 This is the best thing about the internet for me
Totally correct about now. Plus, a mere ten years ago you would have been highly unlikely to see this guy talking about his records on any media.
Great times to me a music geek.
That Pure Evil Trio record is an amazing 8" by an Australian experimental/punk band, highly recommend it.
Wow, had to look up azuma kabuki musicians after Jello mentioned it..totally trance inducing stuff. Might try jamming with my jaw harp next time I listen...
Run for President baby
So cool.

I love this guy I am alive today because of Jello
Thank you for my teenage years mate !
"Take this job and shove it
I ain't working here no more"
Jello Biafra and Henry Rollins, while seemingly being pretty different people, are both like surrogate eccentric uncles I love dearly.
Mort Garson, awesome!
