deltron 3030 too which in my opinion is by far one of the best hip hop records ever. Shit, I listen to all kinds of music and I'd say its one of the best concept albums out of any genre of music. And yeah Dr Octagon is amazing too.
I found this guy on the internet today, and learned that he had a part in making some of my favorite music. Learn something all the time. DJ Shadow is so important to me.
That’s so cool how Dan was talking about the benefits of vinyl because yesterday I was trying to convince my friend to by her son a record player who is 13 and just discovering sampling and a lot of other music related things. Also he’s a drummer. Anyway I was mentioning how the art is much easier to check out and that it feels more like the beat is in your hand so it’s easier to find little sections of music to record for sampling. I mean that’s a pretty common reason someone would recommend vinyl over digital that I mentioned but it’s just the timing that’s really cool because yesterday I mention it and today I find a video of “Dan the Automater” mentioning it as well. I have been listening to Deltron3030 more lately, especially since I realized it has literally been years since I have listened to the whole album. I listened to it in Sf just out of random one day and now I have started all over again and I was so happy to find this video.
Dan is such a chill dude! "Last Night Changed It All" is on the Q-Bert Style Warz tape for a bit haha I'm surprised he held up something I'd recognize!
🤯... BERDO since '92 ✌️ I'm pretty sure it's closed down now tho. I used to go there and then go across the street to a used book store called Art's Book Store, which is also closed down.
yeah ,remember having to judge a record by its cover.. i didnt know about ultramagnetic mcs cos i'm a middle class white boy from uk..one day i was stoned in the record store and picked up dr octogon and i knew it was going to be exactly what i wanted
Dan the Automator is definitely my favorite producer of music. I'm sure there are others out there I would enjoy just as much but he's stands alone to me. Good interview too. :D
true legend for octagon alone. best episode of crate diggers yet. would be cool to see episodes on Geoff barrow, dj shadow, George evelyn, and the dudes of lilacs & champagne.
bro he totally is lying about how many records he has, like underplaying it. Sort of like someone at AA meetings who say they dont drink. vinyl junkie man, you can see the wild look in his eye. cant even keep too many of them on hand!
Just a reminder this guy produced the whole Dr. Octagon album. Have a nice day!
Didn't prince paul do some as well? Like blue flowers or something?

Hey! That's J Dilla's title!!
But that would mean I'm my own favorite producer.
My dream date just changed to taking Dan to Hooters in Texas.
I would have to put The Winston's "Amen Brother" in that frame as well. Entire genres of music have been made using that break!
Music Power allll junglist
i was expecting to see that from the getgo in all honesty'
I have one framed in my lab
......Amen Brother is the most sampled song of all time.........
I found this guy on the internet today, and learned that he had a part in making some of my favorite music. Learn something all the time. DJ Shadow is so important to me.
there's a book by Raph which is photography of home studios and Dan's happens to be one of them, the title of the book is "Behind the Beat".

Not that it matters now. It's Kid Dynamite with the Uphill Peace of Mind break on it.
He reminds me of Tarantino except records not movies.
The Honeydrippers from 1973? I thought that was Robert Plant's band from the 80's?
Right? Same thought.
The Honey Drippers, a soul band, led by Roy C, that recorded the 1973 song "Impeach the President"
Dj shadow? Keb darge?
