For samba the sticks are shorter then my drumstick (about 7cm shorter). Most of the time they are even thick as a 5A drumstick. So the total length about 34 cm. And diameter about 13-17 mm.
Well, actually, the "paradinha" has nothing to do with the bus story... The "paradinha", "bossa" or "breque" was 'invented' in 1959, accidentally, by Mestre André. While the samba was going on, he slipped and fell, so the bateria stopped completely. Then, he stood up, and pointed to the repinique, which reentered the samba in the correct tempo!
Hey Michael, great job on all your videos. The guy who plays repinique on Brasileirinho is Jaguara. Considered by many to be the "Pele" of repinique. He is the former Mestre de Bateria da Mangueira and now plays with Zeca Pagodinho. I have gotten to see Jaguara perform many times and it is always exciting.
Just graduated and the thing I miss the most is my batucada. I'm sending them your videos right now! You give lot's of great ideas! Thanks a lot!
