      Well when you're dealing with a bike that's so old and hasn't been produced in over 30 years and no one in the US works on it, you're kind of winging it.

    • @TylerADV

      Without a doubt, lol; just a rib at ol' Dan. I had a 89 XT600 I was working on and while they weren't as scarce as the Harley, parts here in the US weren't exactly common.

    I've had my fz07 for almost two years it's my first bike, I have wanted to do the mods in your series the whole time but I put it off because I didn't have the confidence to do it myself.
    Now I have your videos and I"M DOING ALL OF THEM you are my fz07 God.

      How much of a difference does it make?

    • @Second_Opinion_2
      @Second_Opinion_2 3 года назад

      @@Mech.E I'd say it depends on your expectations, if you think these mods will make you Valentino Rossi or double your horsepower you will be greatly disappointed
      I for one got great satisfaction out of getting to know my bike working on it and making it my own
      the difference in some mods is more obvious than others, for some if you do one and you want any benefit you have to do another like for this video if you do the flashtune I would also go for their autotune tri-lamda sensor which doubles the price of the flashtune kit but is totally worth it, but the sensor they use is larger than the stock so you might as well get an exhaust that takes the larger sensor. With a new exhaust and the basic flashtune kit my bike ran like crap, with the autotune upgrade it runs great

    • @Mech.E
      @Mech.E 3 года назад +1

      @@Second_Opinion_2 appreciate it! Interesting because no one else mentions the autotune o2 sensor. I'm currently looking around for a used mt07 wish me luck !

    • @Second_Opinion_2
      @Second_Opinion_2 3 года назад

      @@Mech.E They don't mention the sensor but some do mention putting the bike on a dyno to tune it which accomplishes the same goal
      Dyno will give you a great fuel map for whatever the current environmental conditions are, that day, for the price of one dyno session the autotune sensor tunes the bike on the fly as you ride so you don't have to worry about seasonal changes, elevation or anything else, unless you you have cheap unlimited access to access to a dyno I think it's the way to go
      Good luck

    If I were to do this, I'd be shitting myself knowing that I may mess up at any point and cause irreparable damage to a 7k bike . You're working on it as if it's a worthless bicycle. But, obviously you have the expertise and seem to be doing a lot of research beforehand. Kudos to you sir!
    Ps- I don't even own a bike. I just went down through the RUclips rabbit hole researching MT07s.

    This is super cool! I didn't know anyone made a kit like this! Screw power commanders, they don't even come close to control level you get when you can tune the factory ECU. I especially like the permanent wiring harness addition that lets you tune the bike without ripping everything apart and pulling the ECU off.

    Thanks for the video Jake, you're the man!!! I finally used this to flash my ECU today and the thing runs so much harder with the unrestricted / power commander stock fuel map. The mpg appears to be slightly worse, but I'm totally OK with that. I will say that for anyone else attempting this that you can use a needle to push the connector plugs out from the other side if they get pushed in too far. Also, if you get stuck in connection error hell, keep in mind that the dash will read error when it's ready to flash and don't try to clear the error before clicking next.

    So I understand you can remove engine breaking and adjust thermostat with this but then youre just downloading a powercommander map so the fuel/air mixture with this ecu reflash is the same as it would be with a power commander, right? Maybe, I'm missing something. What happens when you add the exhaust? How will you get the reflash map to consider both your air filter and exhaust? Another power commander map perhaps?

    • @alexb5275
      @alexb5275 6 лет назад

      Yes, you’ll use a different power commander map for different exhaust mods /air mods. The benefit with this setup over a power commander is that you have much more versatility and reliability.

    Hey Jake, used to watch the channel a ton for tips before I got my first bike AND just discovered we have the exact same bike now(love that night flo color scheme)! This video (and the whole series) has been really helpful for the various upgrades I've done, so thanks for that! I had never even heard of the flashtune kit before this, everyone only mentioned the power commander. Just wanted to say that I followed this vid exactly and ran into some trouble when my laptop wouldn't connect to the ECU, and I realized that bolt you recommended wasn't working as a ground. Ran the wire to a different bolt that attaches the gas tank to the frame and it worked no problem, I think because the part I picked was unpainted. I saw this video in tons of forums when I was troubleshooting, so if you could put an annotation or something on where exactly you ran it to make it work, I think it'd be really helpful. Thanks again for the great vids!

    After spending several days online doing research .. I same to the same Conclusion that Jake did.. I also found Velox Racing in my searches he seems to be the only business out there that has made a video on FT ECU .. he does reply his e-mails .. Supposedly the FZ-07 has pulled timing in 1st and speed and is speed limited in 5th and 6th .. I too like the strong engine braking with full fuel shut off when you are off the throttle .. It could be too abrupt for racing on the track but saves using your brakes on the street .. Plus my stock bike runs even leaner because of E-10 gasoline ..

    Hey Jake, been following since 2011 or so. I like this series and the fact that you are actually doing it in a way that can walk people through modding their bikes. However, I did notice something in this video. What you are referring to as "decel ignition cut" is actually a fuel cut when under decel. It's actually pretty common among both OEM and aftermarket ECUs. Also, just an FYI, the reason it took so long to flash the first time is because you are having to flash an entirely new OS (similar to windows, but serves a different purpose) onto the bike, whereas your later flashes are just updating values stored in the ECU. Also, I don't have the software package you are using, but I'm going to make an educated guess, based on the values in the map you were using that it is just a way of altering the factory map. Oh, and I hope you saved a separate copy of your original tune, 'cause it's always nice to be able to go back to square one if need be.
    Anyways, keep up the good work, I enjoy your videos, so thanks for putting in the time and effort to produce them.

It also has the awesome Bosch 4.9 wideband O2 sensor - I have this sensor installed in my car for tuning and for my wide band gauge. I ordered both, can't wait to get em!

    I bought my bike (2015 GSXR 600) with a full yoshi exhaust. The bike had 511 miles on it and the dealership said it was tuned. They also said it had a power commander but it didn't. So I have no idea what was done. My bike does two things.
    1.) it pops and crackles loudly when I decelerate from a higher RPM. The baffle does help with this though... so I assume it just needs more back pressure for the current tune?
    2.) when cruising around 4500-5500 rpm the bikes tone gets much louder. It will get quieter (normal sounding) when I slow down or when get into the power band. I can definitely feel a lack of power when it gets louder also.

    • @TheGardenSnake
      @TheGardenSnake  8 лет назад +1

      +Viper Motovlogs That's such a dealership thing to do. "Yeah its tuned i swear." The kit for my bike was $340. Might be a good investment for you. Definitely sounds like its lean and has some hiccup spots.

      +thealvaco I hear a lot of people say it too abrupt. I'm use to riding my Wr450 that's got way more engine braking.

    • @hemihoet3098
      @hemihoet3098 2 года назад

      I recommend doing a trail ride on any 2 Stroke mx bike. Growing up on 2Ts I'm used to them possessing 0% engine brakes lol wich is immediately evident compared to four strokes such as you're WR450.
      I believe it makes you understand more on how and when to use your brakes more effectively, I know they are different riding styles from dirt to road but I reckon to much engine braking doesn't allow the front end to dip down fast enough on corner entry, if you were solely relying on the engine brakes alone wich i believe is a bad habit to have.
      I have an MT07 and they have the most savage engine brakes I've ever ridden on a bike I would love to have them removed lol.

    I kinda want an R7 for my next bike. ECU Flash, Airbox, Filter, and Toce exhaust of course. Coming from a fully tuned R3 with all the same upgrades making 43RWHP over the stock 37RWHP. Burnt my clutch up though, lol wheelie practice. 😅 A turbo R7 would be epic, but it’s almost just worth getting an R6 and making it a bit more comfortable.

      its the data link. The cable he shows us how to install is what makes it the bikeside kit. The bench top kit is designed for you to flash the ECU OUTSIDE of the bike.

  • @VeritasGandalf

    Question! In most of Europe, we got this thing called a limited motorcycle drivers license (A2, versus A which is full effect). A restricted motorcycle is for younger and/or unexperience drivers, and limits the output to 35 kw power. I know for sure that there is a mechanical limit on the throttle body, but is there an electronic limit in the ECU?
    If you were to add aftermarket exhaust to said bike, would you still need to tune it even though it's the restricted edition?
