This song makes me feel many things. On the one hand, the lyrics remind me that our future is uncertain, that it is not as concrete as we were promised. But the melody excites me and gives me hope to get ahead, to go there and make a difference. Without a doubt it is a magnificent song, I love it
Hopefully this won't dampen your enthusiasm, but this song would have been received in exactly the same way by the same age group if it had been released in 1990.
Rise Against knows what this generation is going through. Given almost nothing to work with, yet tasked with saving the world, saying that we'll be rewarded in the end. We are the nowhere generation. We aren't going anywhere, so you're stuck with us whether you like it or not.
For your sweat you'll be rewarded. They told us everyday. There's a land of milk and honey; and it's not that far away. But the finish line kept moving, and the promises wore thin and the smoke on the horizon was the burning promise land! AND THIS PLACE USED TO BE SOMEWHERE BUT THEY SOLD IT OUT FROM UNDER US. Our voices all ignored!
The message of this song is pretty clear, the current generation lacks positive direction a lot of times, but that is also because the rules are changed on them constantly and the goalposts always get moved. It also means that they need to FIND their direction instead of waiting for someone to point it out, and DEMAND that that direction be respected.
We LOVE Rise Against!! My son & I meet them about 9-10 years ago after a concert out in L.A. Hung out with them for a bit and they were talking with my son. Really cool guys & down to earth. Glad to hear new music from them!
We are the nowhere generation. Nobody cared to teach us how to live, so we lived anyways. Nobody cared to teach us, so we taught ourselves and each other. Our lives were sold for the comforts of those who had already been practically given the world on a platter soaked in blood and death. And yet we earned our breath. Our voices were stolen and our rights hidden, so we found them ourselves and shouted louder. Our very world is cracking and crumbling under the weight of our own parents hubris and greed, and yet we fight to rebuild it and protect it with what little we have. Nations jealously carve lines wherever they can, and yet we transcended their boundaries. We are the nowhere generation, and we will not go quietly.
Same, i remember seeing the music video for Make it stop (Septembers children) when i was 12 shortly after i had realized i was gay, and that music video helped m,e through a lot of bad and suicidal times. I'm now 21 and still a bit up and down but a lot better, unfortunately have only seen them live once but when i did they played make it stop and i cried. it was a great concert, a few songs pissed off my sisters super conservative boyfriend too and was fun to see how triggered he got "I thought this was a rock festival whats with this commie punk shit"LMAO. I picked up a wolves hoodie there. eventually plan to get a tat of their logo.

This song really comes at the right time: I've been stuck at home in a more or less strict lockdown for more than a year at this point after only one semester at university (that i really couldn't enjoy bc i was really sick). I feel like politicians in my country Austria really don't care about the mental health of my generation and people my age.I feel like a kid that noone wants and this song gives me away to express my emotions
The situation in Europe is blowing my mind that supposedly there is free movement but no one has really been able to go anywhere this whole time. I think it should change soon. Last summer was also not that bad. Hang in there man I don’t think this can last much longer without a huge revolt. Young people should not be under such rules as this that’s for sure
@FelixFlame Well, what other choice is there? In this case, it’s either do what your government says or risk getting a sickness that is usually very unpleasant, even for people who aren’t likely to die from it.
This song is amazing in every respect. The lyrics are both timely and timeless, the music has just the right energy, and the vocals deliver the message flawlessly. The sad thing is that a child of the 60's can identify with these words as easily as a modern young adult. We've been fighting these same fights my whole life. Race, gender, orientation, basic human dignity, and let's not forget the destruction of our environment. We were supposed to have fixed this mess by now, instead of letting greed win out over compassion, humanity, or plain common sense.

the lyrics ''we are not the names weve been given'' this resonates to me as a trans person, probably not what they were implying, but id like to think that
Might've been. They have a long history of being on the further left end of the political landscape, and given how the second verse is basically quoting Marx I don't think they've forgotten it
@@emPtysp4ce great to see someone else recognising the marxist elements here! I mean, since the pandemic, it is really obvious that capitalism failed. Saving economy instead of people, leaving the young generation with a huge uncertainty about employment... and climate change of course. To Aubrey: I'm not trans, but I really think, that trans people are addressed here. Maybe others too, if you interpret the line more metaphorically but the good thing is that analysis of a song doesn't mean you have to guess the intention of the author 😀 if you have good arguments, your interpretation is totally valid. And yours surely is.

We are not the names that we've been given by society. Weve been told there is something wrong with us. We are all children of our creator. Your creator loves you. I know a lot of people say otherwise. They box god in. There afraid. There afraid of not having control. I know without a shadow of a doubt God loves you. We are not the names that weve been given by the darkness that holds us down. Our language is love. I want my children to grow up in a world that fights for love. Help us fight. We need everyone to fight. There is no difference in us but they want us to believe there is. If someone tells you to hate in any form then they're not for you. Love is our only chance.

that we've , been given
We speak a language ,
you don't know
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
“ The Nowhere Generation ”
Whoa - oh , whoa - oh
( Verse 2 )
“ & , for your sweat ,
you'll be rewarded ”
They told us , every day
“ There's a land , of milk & honey ;
& it's not , that far away ”
But the finish line , kept moving
& the promises , wore thin
& the smoke , on the horizon
Was the burning , promised land
( Pre Chorus 2 )
& this place , used to be ,
somewhere
But they , sold it out ,
from under us
Our voices , all ignored
( 3 ʳᵈ Chorus )
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
We are , “ The Kids , that No 1 Wants ”
We are , a credible threat ,
to the rules , you set
A cause , to be alarmed
We are , not the names ,
that we've , been given
We speak a language ,
you don't know
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
“ The Nowhere Generation ”
Whoa - oh , whoa - oh
( Bridge )
& yet , we climb ,
these burning ladders
Still we raise , for them ,
the hammers
Swinging low
“ & what exactly , are we after ? ” ,
they will ask
& we , will answer
( Outro / 4 ᵗʰ Chorus )
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
We are , “ The Kids , that No 1 Wants ”
We are , a credible threat ,
to the rules , you set
A cause , to be alarmed
We are , not the names ,
that we've , been given
We speak a language ,
you don't know
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
Whoa - oh , whoa - oh
( We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ” )
Whoa - oh , whoa - oh
( We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ” )
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
We are , “ The Nowhere Generation ”
“ The Nowhere Generation ! ”

Did... did you come to a lyric video, before it went live, to comment the lyrics?
I respect it
Real fuckin music
the lyrics ''we are not the names weve been given'' this resonates to me as a trans person, probably not what they were implying, but id like to think that
Might've been.
I was thinking the same thing! Pride dear sister this is a song is for us, even if it wasn't intended. We are here and we aren't going away!!!
@@BlackAssassin913 100% solidarity with the trans community✊🏻✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿🏳️🌈🚩 your struggles are class struggles. Great to see how Rise Against unifies people. A single line could address so many...
