Insanely weak
This song is proof that bands who lean towards higher energy music with distorted guitars also make the most hard hitting acoustic tracks. I been saying this for absolute years now. RA have been my favourite band for about 20 years now and when i first heard them i knew from that point it was the sound that i was looking for all my life.
Who else remembers Everchanging acoustic when Tims sings the last chorus quietly?
Oh hell yeah! Everchanging is one of their best songs though imo. My go to when things seem grim.

@@passi951 it’s a little darker than I want to feel at some times. It’s mostly just Tim’s voice, not that it’s bad, but the regular version gives me the edge of punk that I need to come out positive.
I always think of Rise Against as band that sings about the issues that surround us...I forget Tim has the ability to write a song that can rip your heart out every now and then.
it's when it hits home to who you are and where you are in your own headspace that they can surprise us
This song is incredible. Truly. I’m so glad that there was a quiet acoustic song on this album. Felt like that was sorely missing from Wolves and I loved that album. It’s times like this when it’s just his voice and a guitar that I’m reminded that this man is one of my biggest inspirations and a truly phenomenal songwriter. Fucking bravo Rise Against
Tim is an amazing singer but something that allot of people overlook is his skill as a writer

It's basically an unwritten rule of 90's punk bands that you need a token acoustic ballad on your album. Rise Against have always been one of the best at it.

@@michaeladams8051 Agreed! Honestly, I feel that whole album is something rise against fans were wishing for since, well, forever. Or at least since they made the acoustic version of Everchanging, and of course the original acoustic songs from their various albums, songs like Swing Life Away, Roadside, Hero of War, People Live Here, etc, etc lol. Hopefully there'll be at part 2. And 3. And 4. And so on.
I know it's not the intended interpretation of the song, but lately, I have been dealing with some serious depression, so I unintentionally internalized the lyrics of this song so that the perspective was of someone singing to themselves, the voice singing in defiance of their battle with mental health.

very nice interpretation!! fits perfectly....ME singing to myself. Keep your head up. Sometimes this life doesn't make any sense and nothing is fair. I've personally suffered with severe depression and anxiety for approximately 10 years and it's the hardest thing ever to try to hold your head up and above the water when everyday you feel like you're drowning and suffocating. That feeling of worthlessness, and feeling like there is no place here for you lacking any sense of purpose whatsoever. When you feel the world has forsaken you and you've also forsaken yourself as well. I hate it....but it's the most disgusting feeling in the world to wish for and fantasize about your own death :( feeling like your heart, your soul and your mind will only find comfort and peace in death. I need something or someone to save me because I can not seem to save myself. It's a battle i fight every single day and it's a miserable thing to live with. Wouldn't wish it upon no one else. Truly hoping the best for you my friend...I hope you manage to beat your depression and get out of it before you're in too deep and become stuck in it.....take care.

That’s how good music is. There is a meaning they originally wrote. But when you can take the lyrics and interpret them to your own life. It’s better

I seem to have spent a lot of time over the last couple of years caring for friends with depression or anxiety or another such illness and this song hit by far the hardest of anything on the album. Can see myself coming back to it many times in the future. Wonderful

RA still rocking it all these years later. I been a fan since their first album and while I dont share their politics, their music will always be my go to. Love their first and second album but siren song will always be my favorite

Many of my friends listen to rise against and when we talk about those songs it sounds like we're not even talking about the same band. And that's what great songwriting is all about, sometines you don't just want to tell a story, you want to write a song to become the environment for the listeners own story.
When I listen to this song it's about my ex that struggles with her demons. Nonetheless she knows I'd never let her down.
To you it's about parenthood.
To someone else it might be about a friend, a brother, a niece, someone who is not even alive anymore - and I think that's the whole magic.
I agree with others, the beautiful thing about music is we can each take away something different. I definitely thought of parenthood with this song though, as it seemed to have a very similar message to House on Fire, which Tim had stated was about his relationship with his teenage daughter.

As someone both having loved ones suffering from depression in my life and being affected myself, this song felt like all the things I could never tell anyone in 3 Minutes. How many times did I just want to cry for help? But knowing that people around me are affected and that worrying them will put even more weight on them, I just don't. Being the one waiting at the forest edge is part of my self-therapy. Even if I can barely stand for myself, having these people call me makes me get up and be there. So I hide my pain and just be there. Thank You for writing this anthem for people like me! Thank You for giving us this voice!
When I sing this song, I imagine that I sing it to myself. Most of my life I had to rely solely on myself to keep going. But the day someone needs me, I'll be there and I will not give up.

It never ceases to amaze me the way Tim can give the listener such an emotional reaction with his voice. My reaction to this song is similar to Wait for Me... just a flood of emotion for reasons I can't quite explain. It's beautiful and I can't help but strain my vocal chords belting this out.

I first discovered them at 17 years old as well. In 2009 they did a co headlining tour with rancid. They came to Toronto that summer, couldn't afford to buy tickets but as fate would have it day of the show I came into some money around 5pm, showtime was 7... couldn't find anyone to go and try to get last minute tickets at the box office, so ventured downtown myself hell bent on seeing them for the first time in my life. Box office was sold out, found a scalper who sold me a $20 face value 'nosebleed' seat for $90.... still goes down as one of the greatest purchases of my lifetime. Enjoy the show, you'll remember it fondly forever!!!!

This really hit me hard. Idk why but it feels like to me, it may be about someone you lost/who died and not giving up on their memory. I know that bc that’s what I feel from it personally losing a close friend to an unexpected death last year. Just keeping the memories alive in a happy way and not losing hope that one day I’ll see her again.
That's my interpretation of it as well. Especially the line "I will light a candle by your photograph", which is typically done when someone passes to honor them (also could imply a candlelight vigil).

I usually don't really like acoustic songs and merely tolerate them when they come onto albums of any artists I usually listen to but the way Rise Against actually made me like and enjoy acoustics such as with this song and "Hero of War" is amazing. These songs are crazily beautiful. God bless Rise Against.
