Correction for around the 12:00 mark. The extension showing Twitch total viewership per channel is broken and doesn't display overall viewership. The pool was 800k but in reality should be around 4,500,000 total users at that moment. XQC would then represent around 5% of viewership, not 26%. The point is correct though that this is a massive amount of viewership represented on a single broadcaster. If someone was 5% of RUclips it would represent millions of users in one place. The point here was to explain that Twitch really isn't the huge platform people think it is - it's more niche - and that the individual subscriber revenue of larger broadcasters is insubstantial to Twitch's bottom line. Unfortunately this leaves ads as the only scalable and viable way for them to monetize. Thanks Saysera for catching this (and some of the RUclips comments.) I stopped streaming to Twitch because of the exclusivity, I streamed there for 3 years and struggled to grow, then I started making content on RUclips and saw rapid growth. I tried to email twitch support to remove my affiliate status to multi-stream, that was close to 2 years ago now and I never got a reply. But I would definitely multistream to Twitch and YT (rather than just YT) if they removed exclusivity. I remember when I was first monetized on YT seeing the difference from ad revenue was actually absurd, Twitch for an entire month was giving me less than 1000 views on YT would give me. (With 10-20 CCVs on Twitch streaming ~20h/week).
I would try again with trying to remove affiliate status, I googled how to do it, followed the guide and support removed me from affiliate status within 24 hours I think. But I submitted a support ticket, didn't email them directly.
26:50 I'm here. Actually watched 5 or 6 of these videos in a row to catch up on all the information I need that's going around the streaming/Esports community.
The hilarious thing is that (if I'm understanding this correctly) Twitch is shooting themselves in the foot with this exclusivity thing. Because with bigger discoverability through multiple sites guess what will increase as small streamers grow...ADS. More viewers = more ad revenue.
26 minutes in and I'm just streaming for fun at this point if I'm already gaming solo. Sometimes with friends, depending on what I'm playing and who I'm playing with. But as we are hopefully going back to a more normal life, I'm going to go back to enjoying time outside, touching grass, hitting the gym, getting drinks, and just hanging out. I will say I've been having fun making my clips into youtube shorts/Tiktoks, but not really taking off on Tiktok. OH well. I am interested to see if this move lets new streaming platforms enter into the space.
Here’s an issue that I have been having mentally. I want to stream on RUclips, but I’m doing so well with shorts that I don’t want to affect the algorithm. I left twitch a while ago for FB gaming and have banked off of there monetization features… but they have refused to pay me for over 4 Months now. So I’m being forced out. I want to go to YT but don’t want to mess with my Shorts algo that I have working for me right now… what’s your advice?
@@latergator9622 Honestly this, keep it similar to your main brand but put "streaming" or "live" in the name, it'll take some time for people to properly migrate over and some never will, but it's honestly the best way to not have to worry about the algorithm becoming upset with you now or in the future with w/e changes YT will undergo
go to ludwig channel "mogul mail", his recent video talking about sykkuno also explain why streaming on main platform might affecting the livestream viewership in a good way (ludwig from 18k on twitch to 20k/25k on YT, valkyrae from 3k on twitch to 20k on YT). but as far as i recognize, him and valkyrae unlisted their VODs (after livestream), maybe as long as the VODs not showing on your channel, it won't affecting the regular videos viewership on your channel
@@prohanta9360 Good call, I was looking at it from a future proofing perspective, and since YT is notorious for overhauling their algorithm with practically no warning or reason given, I find total isolation of content through having multiple channels to be the safest option so that no effect on one can tank the others
Twitch needs to find a way to make ads less intrusive. Ads on my channel minimize my stream to the top corner of chat on a PC. Not a big deal but it also mutes it. The muting is the problem. I'm in the middle of asking a viewer something and an ad runs. And our hands are sort of tied because if I allow pre-rolls then that little miniscule part of exposure you get from new ppl coming to the stream is gone because they bounce when they get a pre-roll. And yet, mid-rolls are intrusive. If Twitch played the ad on top of the chat or even brought back the "watch these ads and earn bits" program, this whole kafuffle would be a non-issue. RUclips is by far more favourable as a viewer with ads but I have yet to experience ads on YT with their live content. How intrusive are they? I'm a YT Premium person so I have no ads at all (which is well worth the money IMO). YT doesn't have very good search functionality as far as live streams go. It's super difficult for me to find new live streams. Also 26 minute mark.
I REALLY miss the watch ads for bits. I actually took my time out of my day just to do them so I could save them up and throw them to a streamer i like. now I feel cheated that I can't watch ads and still have to pay out the ass to do the same thing.
"Sick Matrix Human Farm" 😂 aww damn Devin is the GOAT! Thanks for your videos, i watch every single one, the value you bring to these topics for creators is off the charts! Cheers! 🍻
Just started watching you and really enjoy the content and helpful info. Was going to follow on Twitch to find out about any live streams you do and looks like it's been a year or so since your last stream, what happened?
Still here at 26 mins. You're on my second monitor, listening while chilling in Final Fantasy 14. Thanks for you content, I really appreciate your insights. I used to stream on Twitch and want to get back into content creation and you've given me lots to think about. Though I watch you for more than just that.
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR SHIT LOL. The RUclips algorithm is even sending me old videos you made like 5 years ago. Its kinda funny. Your info has really helped educate me with how to actually think about running a career. Thank you a lot for posting a good bit on your youtube. I should look into your patreon eventually.
26 mins, no problem. :) your content is an intellectual haven for someone trying to learn about esports business while endlessly browsing youtube. never a bad watch.
The only thing that bothers me with ads (and maybe I'm wrong) is I know streamers can start them, but can they do /adstop or /adinterrupt that goes "Yo Twitch, I found a game/match or a race starts (Gran Turismo/iRacing) I'd like to bring them back after the current ad." Similar to how some events with side-by-side on TV if something important happens they can finish the ad break later but not immediately because "BREAKING NEWS." Edit: Changed to current ad instead of interrupting a current ad in progress.
I love how passionate you are about multistreaming lol it makes me feel like I made the right decision every time. Started streaming on TikTok too and my first stream literally had a cap of 250 viewers.
I'm pretty sure everybody stays past the 26 minute mark on a Devin Nash video because this is always good information. I don't even stream, but I always stay to the end. Another great vid.
I don't know how to swim, but I do deep dive, I love your videos and all the information that you give, it helps me with the anxiety of starting to do streaming.
I left twitch 8 months ago to pursue more RUclips stuff and it feels so much better to be away from all the yuck of this. When I got back to twitch these days to watch friends the ads seem to be killing my experience so I would hate to see more of that as a viewer and ex-streamer on twitch
Still with you at 37 minutes in ... did the "take your ad revenue and times it by 5" ... at my level, that would be a nice bump. And yes Twitch, please take the exclusivity handcuffs off.
"Nobody talks about Twitch's Flat CPMs." HA! Almost nobody. 🙂 My audience isn't a fan of me talking meta stuff instead of tech videos though. 🙂 Current RUclips ad splits is 55/45 in favor of the creator with dynamic CPMs. Memberships are 70/30. It's just too bad RUclips doesn't more aggressively market this stuff to streamers, particularly since Fwiz left. 😕 P.S. "I can't believe people watch this shit!!!" 😊
I made it to the 26 minute call out, always been a fan, miss your streams on Twitch but understand why you don't. I've said before, you changed my life and helped me take the steps to get into the gaming/esports/entertainment industry full time.
Why would you not believe people are watching?? I love your videos because you are so passionate and you use the facts and statistics. I am a huge advocate for people doing their research and looking at the FACTS instead of just going, "Well, I heard this is bad, so I didn't do it." Your videos are exactly the kind of information I think small content creators need, but most aren't paying attention.
I firmly believe that removing the exclusive clause is to capture large creators from other platforms for free. They may lose a few of their large creators, but for people such as yourself having the option to come over. And FB has exclusive clauses for partners, so firmly believe they are targeting getting a wave of names to multi.
Dude, I don't stream or even post videos to my YT channel anymore and I stay through all of your videos because they are so informative and the nature of streaming is very interesting to me.
Thanks for teaching me the ways of being a content creator! You information is very useful for very small streamer like me and its a good talking point on stream!!! Thank you!!!
We all still love being Nashed. Made it all the way through of course. I wish you would do these as a live stream so we could get that old interaction again. We miss it.
Completed video club here, thanks for making this video. As a small affiliate, I'm thinking of just restreaming to YT and other platforms and not pay heed to the "exclusivity" in the Twitch contract. It's true, for the amount of $ we make at this level, it's not worth giving up the discoverability on other platforms.
Always down to fully watch your videos. They're really insightful and give great info on how I should be streaming and content creation in general. Keep it coming Devin! (Also your Patreon is great, glad that you're putting premium content there)
I think Twitch is concerned about TikTok making a play on their market share. Most viewers watch Twitch on their phones. TikTok is blowing up when compared to other platforms, and if it were to offer a way for gamers to livestream, Twitch would be in danger.
Watching this video now after recent Twitch ad changes. They were basically like, you have to run ads or we will run them for you. I try to tell people I know to not become affiliate but they are stubborn because they don't understand how detrimental it is signing a contract with Twitch. I actually get laughed at by people and told I am just jealous because I can't get affiliate. People are literally this dumb. I'll probably just start directing people to your videos and ignoring ignorant comments.
I also wanted to thank you for always pointing out Twitch's practices that aren't proactive towards inclusivity of new groups and streamers. They really try their hardest to scare new content creators away because of zero incentive to become an affiliate.
26:42 and still going. Always watch the deep dives and if you don't then you miss out of vital information which could help gain better understanding if you stick around for longer. Great work Devin, always love the content you produce ono RUclips. Always look forward to seeing new content with every upload you do.
Love your videos Devin and it's extremely insightful. My last stream on twitch was yesterday after about two years. RUclips streaming seems like they're looking to advance and build the platform for the creator and for the user. First YT stream is next week
26 minute gang! One reason people still bother signing as Affiliates at the small to medium size, is because it's more known how to say "I'm a Twitch streamer" by a "verbal" definition. If you say you're a RUclips or Facebook Partner/Streamer, a layperson might not understand that quite as well depending on how well they understand Content Creation as a job. I'm all for being diversified, and building yourself out everywhere, rather than shoehorning all your revenue through one TERRIBLE source i.e. Twitch.
My problem (small creator) with ads at the moment is that: I have the option to play it pre-roll or throughout the stream.. but why would I choose "through-out" (with the downside of it disrupting my content midway) when the revenue difference is only a couple of dollars
In the video Devin alludes to this scenario as one of the reasons Twitch could be motivated to provide an ad revenue split instead. If broadcasters were earning more from ads, they’d be more inclined to run ads throughout stream. It’s insane that Twitch hasn’t done this earlier.
I de-affiliated and don't even have motivation to stream often, those two things at the end is literally what would bring me back properly to streaming, I have never understood twiches business sense, more full time streamers == more quality streams == more eyes on adverts

26+ min club viewer here. I'm sure you've seen that Asmongold mentioned being willing to talk about twitch and it's future. If we could somehow combine your notepad skills and his paint skills it would be god like. Would be really interesting to see a discussion between you two I think.
27:00 Yes, I watch the entire video because you always give that little bit of extra depth into the subject :)
I stopped streaming to Twitch because of the exclusivity, I streamed there for 3 years and struggled to grow, then I started making content on RUclips and saw rapid growth.
Twitch saying, "Oh my God, we're evil!" Lol, also 26min strong!
Hit me up I have crypto update??
You called it Devin, I remember watching this months back.
Twitch is becoming more and more ugly to people who wish to make twitch their home and are decent broadcasters.
Thanks for the quick, and in depth, analysis of the leak. Love the simplicity of your delivery.
I'm surprised that Devin thinks people drop off after 26 minutes. I don't think I've ever dropped out early. It’s too valuable and interesting.
26:00 and still here…
I have YET to fail at watching your videos all the way through in one sitting.
Start a new channel and advertise it on your main
@@prohanta9360 will do!
IM STILL HERE!!! 26 MINUTESSS
still here and i am very surprised getting such a deep dive into the Twitch ocean ;) Your speech speed is perfect for me, no need to fasten up.
Oh look it's the 26 minute mark!
Absolutely love these leak breakdowns, seeing someone who knows their stuff in this space talk about this is great!
Still here!
Hit me up I have crypto update??
26 minute deep dive club here. You can't believe people are watching this shit? I love this shit!
Yup. RUclips ads are the best; hopefully Twitch follow suit with ad rev share.
Was waiting for Devon's take on this
"Sick Matrix Human Farm" 😂 aww damn Devin is the GOAT!
Hit me up I have crypto update??
Still here at 26 mins. You're on my second monitor, listening while chilling in Final Fantasy 14. Thanks for you content, I really appreciate your insights.
I used to stream on Twitch and want to get back into content creation and you've given me lots to think about. Though I watch you for more than just that.
I LOVE WATCHING YOUR SHIT LOL. The RUclips algorithm is even sending me old videos you made like 5 years ago. Its kinda funny.
Your info has really helped educate me with how to actually think about running a career. Thank you a lot for posting a good bit on your youtube. I should look into your patreon eventually.
thanks for your insight throughout! Cheers🥂 27:00
Hit me up I have crypto update??
26 min+ also Notepad and Paint usage in your videos is OP and the people that use them in videos are all big brains.
I sure am here even at 26 mins. I love your analytical and clear-head approach to social media. Thanks.
RUclips takes 45% standard on ads.
bruh i love your videos i watch them all the way through
Hit me up I have crypto update??
26 mins, no problem. :) your content is an intellectual haven for someone trying to learn about esports business while endlessly browsing youtube. never a bad watch.
27 mark. Love your stuff Devin. Your one of the main reasons I started multi streaming
Still here at 26:00 Thanks for sharing your super insightful thoughts.
The only thing that bothers me with ads (and maybe I'm wrong) is I know streamers can start them, but can they do /adstop or /adinterrupt that goes "Yo Twitch, I found a game/match or a race starts (Gran Turismo/iRacing) I'd like to bring them back after the current ad." Similar to how some events with side-by-side on TV if something important happens they can finish the ad break later but not immediately because "BREAKING NEWS."
Edit: Changed to current ad instead of interrupting a current ad in progress.
Live Steaming is New Age "TV" to me, so seeing how it evolves and changes to where the individual "Creator" is the focal point, is always interesting
Waiting for new Devin video, been 2 months, hope he is going good. Thought maybe there would new video about Twitch new ad system.
Still here brother! Thank you!!
I left twitch 8 months ago to pursue more RUclips stuff and it feels so much better to be away from all the yuck of this. When I got back to twitch these days to watch friends the ads seem to be killing my experience so I would hate to see more of that as a viewer and ex-streamer on twitch
26 mins, always here!!
I gave up my affiliate a while ago because of exclusivity. Never cared about income because it was so little. These changes are a big pog for me!
Current RUclips ad splits is 55/45 in favor of the creator with dynamic CPMs. Memberships are 70/30. It's just too bad RUclips doesn't more aggressively market this stuff to streamers, particularly since Fwiz left. 😕
P.S. "I can't believe people watch this shit!!!" 😊
Love listening to devin nash talk about this stuff 27:00 in.
Deep dive squad 👋 thanks for keeping the great work up Devin
"I can't believe people watch this [stuff]" Haha, I just like hearing your insights on various things. Always a good listen.
Still here, Devin. Always useful info, thanks :)
We miss it.
What is the name of the chrome add-on you use to see the twitch metrics? I'd love to get that if I could!
lol 26 minute callout. I really appreciate your inside knowledge. Thanks for the vids. And Streemtunes is friggin awesome BTW.
Amazing and informative video as always Sir! Thank you.
26min+Club4life ...thanks Devin, helps a lot!
Love all of your videos!!!
Thank you for all the great content, always great stuff
Deep Dive baby 🤝👑
Yeah I love this content. It's super interesting to learn about these topics and hearing your thoughts. 26 min mark ;)
Hit me up I have crypto update??
Love these videos and content seriously thank you man ❤️🔥
26:42 and still going.
Hit me up I have crypto update??
Been waiting on the Devin Nash take. OmegaPoggers
Still here. Deep dive. Great video!
Twitch.
I always stay to the end. So much info.
I'm still here at 26. Left twitch a while back and I always appreciate your thoughts 😊
My problem (small creator) with ads at the moment is that:
I have the option to play it pre-roll or throughout the stream.. but why would I choose "through-out" (with the downside of it disrupting my content midway) when the revenue difference is only a couple of dollars
In the video Devin alludes to this scenario as one of the reasons Twitch could be motivated to provide an ad revenue split instead. If broadcasters were earning more from ads, they’d be more inclined to run ads throughout stream. It’s insane that Twitch hasn’t done this earlier.
@@SheenSayer agree
I de-affiliated and don't even have motivation to stream often, those two things at the end is literally what would bring me back properly to streaming, I have never understood twiches business sense, more full time streamers == more quality streams == more eyes on adverts
