thank you for your easy to get video on audio interface and mix board set up.
Glad to help
Excellent tutorial!
Thanks!
This is amazing... You know things brah
Lol thanks for watching. Yah I am a Sage... I know all.
excellent video.. Ive being think of doing a similar setup in my own studio!
Go for it!
Nice video 📹
Thanks!
thank you
You're welcome
awesomeness
Sure
Thank you for sharing the tutorial.
Due the mic of my Yamaha F4 mixer which is no preamp function, there's no signal, no sound detected from channel 1 for dynamic microphone on the mixer.
Therefore, I want to do it as your video tutorial from Audio interface(Yamaha Steinburg UR22C)connect to Yamaha F4 Mixer
The procedure is as below:
1. plug in microphone on mixer
2. quarter-inch cables plug those into the quarter inch inputs from audio interface(UR22C), and plug those into the mixer output should be labled as main mix output
If so, the microphone of mixer will be workable, and all the channel of the mixer can be adjusted and controlled. Is that right?
Maybe. You can increase / boost the signal once it runs into the audio interface using the audio interfaces preamp (as long as the signal is at least strong to register one plugged in. Sounds like u have a lousy microphone maybe. If you still have no signal your mixer channel or output may be damaged.
Hi and thank you very much for the useful video. One question: the recording that you'll achieve with such mixer + external audio interface setup is "after the mixer EQ" or it is just the "flat" sound of the output without any EQ? Thanks
If you do not adjust the mixer's EQ it will be whatever flat sound you put in it. But yes if you adjust eq it will come out of mixer with that EQ.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Thanks!!
I would suggest keep everything flat so that you can achieve a good mix in the recording by passing the master through an eq. as well as the live output in the PA. The auxes can’t be eq’d unfortunately in an analog entry level mixer setup .
Maybe you can help me, so i have a korg1200 and the preamp is amazing, they have a technology called REMS that can emulate a mic into almost anything older mic for vintage etc so i record all my vocals in there its a 12 track recorder, but seeing that its so old it doesnt really communicate well with a computer, it just transfer files, when i plug my mic into the interface which is a presonus, it sounds sooo bass heavy and muffled, so i spend hours mixings is there a way i can do what im doing with my korg , get that warm tone with with the pc,
Well if the korg1200 has "Main Mix Out" or "Main Out" you could send the signal from the Korg to the interface via Line in with a 1/4 cable. Now if the Korg has only a Stereo LR Output. You will need to buy a RCA Stereo to 1/4 mono cable. Found on Amazon. However I cannot properly read the back of that Unit by looking at the pics on Google so.
The Tascam Model 12 has XLR connections for the main outs. Not sure if that makes it balanced as well. BTW, the Model 12 is supposed work as an interface/mixer but I have never gotten it to be recognized as a DAW control.
You have to download proper drivers, or a universal driver. Ya xlr are balanced.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Thanks, I'll try setting it up again.
How do I connect my focusrite 18i20 to a Beringer X32 mixer?
Secondly, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using both because I was using only the focusrite before buying the mixer?
Thanks chief 👍
It connects the same way despite brand.
Use 2-- xlr cables or 2--1/4inch cables, connect your behringer from Main Outputs to 2 inputs on the interface.
The only advantage is having more inputs on the mixer. An 18i20 is typically large enough to record moat things except a band and a full drum set.
Most people uae if they dont have enough inputs on thsie audio interface. Like a drummer with a 2 input interface may connect hia 16 channel mixer stereo so he has enough inputs for all his microphones.
Old.mixers are cheap that is alao why.
The disadvantages: it may degrade the aound 1-5% if you do not properly set the gain correctly.
Perfect..
Thanks
Really appreciate the info. I think I'm not understanding perfectly so: if I'm using focusright scarlet to record with a daw, do I need a mixer?
What if I'm recording two vocals and a guitar and a piano? Would the 4i4 be able to take all these 4 signals in or would I need a mixer in this scenario?
Finally, if I'd like to have more than 2 signals, what's the best bang for my buck? A larger focusright or scarlet 2i2 with a mixer?
Thank you in advance!
Its always best to go Directly into the Audio Interface. A 4i4 or 6i6 focusrite Interface may be the highest quality for your dollar.
This particular setup is aimed at people who already have a Mixer but need the extra Input for a Band or multiple microphones for a Drum set Recording.
Many musicians owned a mixer before recording so thats the Aim here.
It is not necessary to use or connect your mixer this way if..... Your audio Interface has enough Inputs already.
The cost is probably equal if you bought both or bought a 6i6 or 4i4. 4i4 focusrite being the cheapest.
@@newcastlemusicstudios thank you.
I still am unsure if I could record 4 inputs simultaneously on 4 different tracks with the 4i4? As in 2 mics and 2 plugged instruments?
@@MiikkaGreeneyes theres software that comes with the focusrite Interface for that specific separate Routing. I think its the 6i6. The Info is on their website for Routing separate tracks in the DAW.
if you are confused on "THE PURPOSE OF THIS VIDEO" the purpose is for those who need more inputs and control over their mic pre's or FX but cannot afford a 16 input audio interface...
Greatly appreciated!
what about monitoring daw playback while adding new audio tracks? is the monitoring done in the daw? iam just getting started with this technology. Thanks for your post
You can monitor the live recording om either mixer or intrrface. But you will only hear playback through the audio interface.
This video was informative. However, I cannot record on my DAW. I can hear and see that the microphone is working, but I cannot record onto my computer. I can only play that audio through the monitors.
Check preference settings in the daw.
If it id a 2 channel audio interface make sure you have the setting set to left or right or which ever side the nicrophone is plugged in on each track.
Really nice and short video. I have a question. I have the same setup with a yamaha mg10x mixer and 8i6 audio interface. I want to record from an extra microphone directly through the 8i6 audio interface but if the front two microphone slots are taken then where do I connect the extra microphone?
Well,
8 ins 6 outs
There should be n additional 6 inputs on the backside, i would imagine.
Should be labeled with
A small "I" for Ins/inputs etc.
Is your 8i6 audio interface what BRAND?
Then i n look it up to confirm.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Thanks. The rest of the ins are line ins, midi and spdif. Can I connect a microphone to the line in input?
well and clearly explained only what should you do if your audio interface only has a mic/line 1 input and inst 2 (for instruments) e.g. the u-phoria umc 22 then it is not possible to do left and right when i use a orchestra wants to record with all their equipment at the mixer (without usb) with audio interface is there a solution for that?
You would need more Inputs on the interface, like a Focusrite 1818, if you dont have a mixer.
@@newcastlemusicstudios audio interface with more input is not needed i think I do have a soundcraft EXF12 mixer, so that's no problem, but it doesn't have a USB connection directly to be able to record everything connected to the mixer and because I also have a behinger U-phoria UMC22 that only has a mic / line 1 and inst 2 I wondered how to go about connecting then can I connect the output of my mixer with a single XLR cable to the mix/line 1 and then like I am used to pick up my condenser microphone record with audition now instead of microphone my mixer with what everything is connected at once in a track ?
@@Musaneter013 you need an interface with at least 2 line or xlr inputs to connect a mixer properly. One has to be set to left and the second to right for stereo. If you only use one it wont sound right at all.
Can you run this into an iphone cam and iphone garageband simultaneously? record video as well and mix and them later ?
Yes you could but there no need for the audio interface usb for the PC connection.
Take a mixer then from the maim output on the back take a stereo cable of 1/4th inch to a headphone stereo cable luke i think its an 1/8th inch.
Then take that Y connector and plug it into an audio interface that receives a 1/8th inch cable.
There are a few out there i think irig or iphone rid connectoe..
I would have to look.
As long as your iphone can receive audio in the input
I'm using a Yamaha EMX2 powered mixer, which only has Speaker and Monitor Outputs. Would I use the monitor outputs from the mixer to plug into my audio interface? Thanks for the video!
Best advice is try both. Listen on low volume n slowly turn up to hear which sounds better. The other option is to buy a Cheap DI Box in case the signal is amped up so much the transition is of poor quality. Most Mixers have Manuals online. The Manual will say the +4db out or +10 db output. Obviously there is enough gain on the interface if the signal from the mixer is weak. Also check your manual if u find it to see if they have any recommendations. I would generally say "monitor". Otherwise which indicates better quality for in house mixing vs. speaker which is indicative of Mixing a Live event.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Awesome, thank you for the info! Unfortunately the manual is pretty void of expansive connectivity options. This helps a ton!
great video i have a question i have a focusrite 3 gn i use logic pro. Can I go live with my band, I'm a drummer. The mixer is Soundcraft ui16, now I don't understand how to connect to ui16? what cables should i have? and do they need to be plugged into the soundcard MAIN OUT 1/2 or ALT OUT to go live.. i don't know if i explained well.. we are newbies in this stuff :) thanks a lot for the answer. your videos are Cool!!!!
Ya, you can always go live and record at the same time from mixer mics to audio interface. That is basically what the pros do live... although they have a dedicated sound guy in real time and very expensive equipment.
Just use XLR cables. Make sure you get at least a stereo connection. L & R on
"MAIN OUTPUT MIX"
Usually found at the back of the mixer board but sometimes it is in the top of a Mixer.
Most of the times any outs will do, some OUTPUTS will have a -4 or -8db or +4 +8db for a small amount of extra gain.
The best way to learn is to just experiment, then slowly adjust your gain and volume levels on your mixer board as well as keep microphone adjustments where the should be to avoid to much or little extra Bleed or ambient noises in the recording or jam room etc.
So how to get audio inside the computer also how to connect focuscrite to Atem mini pro
@@user-ii4gw3hr3l you can connect any mixer to any audio interface. The audio interfaces usually all habe USB to connect to your computer.
If you are wondering how to record inside your computer, you wil need a FREE DAW, like CAKEWALK SONAR-FREE DONLOAD. Or Audacity that will pick up the audio interface signal
Does it make sense to connect a Yamaha 12 channel mixer to a Universal Audio Apollo X4 to have more inputs? Are any of the properties of the interface lost with this connection? Or, do the mixer gains the interface properties?
As long as it is 1/4 inch input. Anytime you connect a mixer to your audio interface you will get any excessive noise from that particular mixer. 99% any extra "Noise" is not audible. Best advice is watch you Db Meter and keep it in the Green or around -9db on the Master in the Daw. You can turn up the interface and get more of the preamp "amplification" that way or use the Preamp on the mixer or both.. You will have the advantage of the EQ on the Mixer during Tracking.. Like turning the Bass down for a Cleaner Sound etc.
Thanks for your useful video but the headphone in mixer or audio interface?
Audio interface for headphones
@@newcastlemusicstudios thanks a lot
So to connect a Pa As Your output sound Playback and Recording is to go thru the Output Monitors Jack to PA System?
Yes you could also do that if you are using a laptop and interface to send a signal out. This video is more for sendig through a mixer into an audio interface for recording a live band on a budget... because a 16 channel used mixer is fairly cheap and so is a 2 channel audio interface. But there are lots of ways to interface between the w for experimentation with sound recording and mixing.
Yes my brother set his up so we can hear back but getting humming bass turning a fader up (feedback) because sending from headphone out to channel 16. I told him that we should go from the output of the interface to PA. Tried he thought that it sounded to low and all you'd have to do is turn the volume up on output monitor know of interface.
Ok I have mbox 3 mini can I do this same setup with recording in my protools but mix on the board rather than mixing in the box?
Maybe. Yes you can mix the entire thing on the board... however you will get a stereo Track.. which would basically be your Master finished mixed song.
Lots of people do it like that and avoid using plugins.
Thanks so much. but how do I connect my speakers. kindly explain
You would want to connect your speakers to the back of your 2i2.
If you have a Scarlett Solo or solo interface with no speaker outs. You will need to use a 1/4 inch cable/adapter to your speakers. Specifically Stereo adapter so u can hear left right.

How do i connect the mixer ,audio interface, monitors, midi keyboard ,pc and microphone???! Thank you in advance
Start with connecting the mixer to the audio interface as seen in the video.
The monitors plug into the back of the audio interface.
The usb connects the interface to the PC.
The microphone should be connected to the mixer with 48V phantom power if you have it.
The midi keyboard will have a USB. Plug the Midi USB directly into the PC.
Thank you for the excellent explanation, could you please advise if it's possible to plug the Scarlett Audio Interface into Behringer PPA2000BT portable PA system? I am buying the PA system and would like to have an audio interface as well for recording, I am asking because I don't see Main Outs on PPA2000BT mixer. Appreciate your quick response.
Just looked that mixer unit over. Same thing. I also do not see any Main Mix Outputs or even basic RCA Outs.. everything looks to be just Inputs. Assuming it is designed that way for gigging live shows.
Newcastle Music Studios thank you for the quick response. If this is the case, can I connect a separate mixer to the PPA2000BT?
If I am looking at the correct unit. I can see 2 stereo RCA Out on the bottom right . You could use any Stereo RCA to 1/4 stereo cable combo to connect an interface or mixer. I may have been looking at the 500 before.

If you record a band, will the sound of the guitars, bass and singers will be much in the drum recording? Same thing in the singer's microphone?
So whether you use an 8 channel or 32 channel mixer, mixers only have 2 ouputs. They have a LEFT / RIGHT Output to make a stereo Recording MIX.
So the best you can get is Stereo. Therefore if you are all recording in the same room, you will get "Microphone Bleed." Basically all the mic's n the same room will pick up the ambient sound/bleed fr the other Instruments.
If you want to avoid this, you will need the drummer, guitars and singers all in separate rooms, or you can use Acoustic Shielding to help reduce bleed for a Cleaner more precise Recoeding.
Some DIY Guys use old Beds, Hanging blankets, cardboard around the drum set or near the amplifiers. Most of the bleed the will come from the Drum Set.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Thanks. As for studio recording, one may want to record each instrument individually starting with the drums, the bass, guitars, singers, etc. Then you can fine tune each track.
I have one of these and I can't find a place to put the sound return cables.
Are you talking about the focusrite interface? or the mixer?
The mixer has 2 'AUX SENDS" on the top right hadn corner.
If you mean the focusrite interface?
The 2i2 scarlett focusrite interface has the front 2 inputs---
those are to send music-sound into the unit.
The 2 ports on the back are to send music OUT to Speakers.
XLR MALE "MAIN OUT " FROM BEHRINGER XR12 TO EXTERNAL SOUND CARD LINE-IN XLR FEMALE....IS THIS CORRECT?? I WOULD USE XLR'S BETTER....THANKS.
sounds right!
on mine the mixer takes a female xlr cable
on my interface it is a male xlr to connect
Hi...It's apply for any mix to any interface...? I means from Mix Out put (L-R) to Interface(L-R) In put .?
Yes. Any 2i2 interface style and mixer with at least one stereo jack ouput (L R) .
Can i use this interface without a computer? If i wanna make a gig using my mixer output, to send the signal to a external PA. Is possible?
I dont think so.
Interface means "go between."
There isnt much purpose eithout a PC. You would just plug in everything directly to your mixer.
So if I’m using two mono cables it won’t work? Dealing with this right now and I think that might be my problem
2 mono cables is correct. When i said w stereo cables i meant to say 2 cables for stereo aka 2 mono cables. The 2 mono cables create a stereo Connection.
What if I only have one mic input on my interface how would that go?
ruclips.net/video/oJCqm81vvxk/видео.html
I made a video for that also. Only difference is it is a Mono Connection.
If i have a 4 channel mixer and a single channel interface , will it record all the sound as one ? And will it not overload the interface ? Thanks mate nice vid :D
Yes you will get a Mono signal in the interface with everything from that output, which should be all 4 channels. About "overloading" .... You can if you really want, use a DI Box if you are using a Mic Level Input, if you are using a Line Level Input, which is a standard 1/4 inch input, you do not need a DI Box and no it will not overload. Audio signals have an electrical current of anywhere from .2 to 1.5 Volts. Most interface run on 5 volt power. A line level input is stronger but still not enough to "overload" the input. As you turn down the gain on your interface you are also decreasing the preamp power which is a substitute for no DI Box. Also most mixer have a manual that say if they are +4 or +10db and some have a -10db button for mic level inputs. All the DI box does is turn down Line Level Signal to a Mic Level or visa versa depending on which DI box you have. I don't use them and never have.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Got it! Thanks for explaining it very well mate :D Thank you and God bless 😀
Question- I see you have usb on your mixer. What is the advantage of using the Scarlett as an extra step into the computer? Could you just Mixe the band on the mixer and via usb go right to the daw?
I ask because I too have both and can’t understand why I’d use them together yet. Please enlighten me and thanks for the vid!
Well it was mainly for demonstration purposes a few years ago when someone without a usb mixer interface combo made the request. I also point that out towards the end of the video. This particular mixer/interface combo has a few Negative drawbacks. 1. Horrible latency while track and listening to a click track or drum set etc. Latency is so bad u cant record in "proper time." Thr actual Interfaceing between the mixer n the PC is not Buttery Smooth like a 3rd gen scarlet 2i2 for example... But yes you can go right into your PC Daw via USB and track LIVE. There is an Emphasis on LIve... Because if you are just trackong yourself or a Band live it is an OK Mixer Combo to do that. Oh yes i forgot to point out, it lacks a direct monitor switch like most usb audio interfaces have. Which is why it has horrible Latency. The advantage is a few things... If your interface is a 2i2 and you have a 8 mic setup for a Drum kit and an old 8 or 16 channel mixer (non usb) a mixer lets you still record in Stereo while you get the higher functioning Zero latency audio interface direct monitor control etc.
So i think you may have assumed the video was centered around this particular usb inter mixer combo... But it's merely a coincidence and the only mixer i had available at the moment.
The disadvantage maybe too much gain... But you can just turn the gain knob all the way down on tye interface or whatever you prefer.
@@newcastlemusicstudios When you plug the Alto into your DAW, how many channels of input will it recognise? I am currently trying to see if this is worth my buy. I want to plug my guitar and use my guitar vst plug ins seperately from the input of my mic input (which I will also want to use different plug ins for). I also have an external looper which I will then have to figure out how to connect. But anyway, I am trying to see what possibilities I might have when it comes to recording via my DAW and if I will be limited to only track 2 tracks at once (the two main outs of the Alto). Cheers
so i just brought a mackie 32/8 and would like to use it to mix projects that get send to me out of the box at first, now in order for this to work, do I need an audio interface with 32i/o's, in order to separate each individual channel from the DAW into the mixing desk.
please help
Yes if u want individual Tracks in your DAW Properly Routed.... You will need that many I/O plus compatible Software. For the Interface. If you want to mix. Your project down to a solid Stereo track , you can get away with using a 2i2 audio interface and properly using the Pan L/R knobs on your mixer to mix down each side left and Right... Some Mixers are now Interface Mixer hybrids.. That allow you to do what you are looking to do... Otherwise my suggestion is to mute all other tracks on the mixer and mix/ edit 1 or 2 tracks at a time.
@@newcastlemusicstudios cheers for the response!! so basically im either gonna need a motu 32i/o or a focusrite 18/20 x2
I hooked it up just like your video however when I record vocals or guitar leads to my backing track I only hear the backing track from the headphones connected to the audio interface. Are the headphones on my mixer useless? Or is there a way to do this with out using my monitors? Thanks
That's normal. Because when your mixer only send the signal it doesn't have return. You can only use your Audio interface to monitor your tracking Live with headphones etc. If you want to monitor from your mixer you would need to connect a quarter inch cable from the headphone jack back into the mixer aux in. What's wrong with monitoring from your audio interface?
@@newcastlemusicstudios I prefer 🎧 while I'm playing and I can't seem to get the volume through the interface on my lead and bass tracks like I do with the mixer. Run the outs from your interface to the 2track on your mixer. Press the 2track to cntrl room button and then run cntrl room outs on the mixer to your monitors. Use the headphone out on you interface and you can turn down the monitors with the mixer while controlling headphone volume with the interface. I record amped guitars and live drums in my control room too so I cant have the monitors going while I play either.
Is it possible to use the 2i2 connected to my Gemini 12 mixer with 3 mics and be able to record from the 3 mics at the same time? I’m currently having the issue of only being able to get 1 external mic on the software and I was told a Scarlett would fix that. I’m just wonder if the 2i2 will work for 3 mics recording at the same time
Yes. You can connect as many mics as you want on your mixer. The signal is just blended into one stereo mix from the main outputs to the interface.
@@newcastlemusicstudios ah that makes sense. If I wanted to have single audio sources for each mic, should I just use like a behringer 404 connected to my mixer for the mics or just the behringer to mics to my Mac?
Well... If you are trying to Multitrack Record each mic on separate Tracks, you would have to have to use the PAN Knob on a mixer. Which you can only route 2 mics Left / Right or do the same with the Behringer 404. It all depends what your goal is. A lot of people have asked me how to do "Multitrack Recording" for say Drums with 8 Mic's. The answer is you have to have the right interface and the software that properly routes each mic to its own track. The cheapest setup I am aware of is the focusrite 6i6 Scarlett that does that. But I am sure behringer also has software for it. However perhaps that is not your intended goal.
@@newcastlemusicstudios my end goal was for a storytelling type of recording with 3 people. No instruments or anything. Thanks for the input and also great video!
@@vivekh.dsingh2993 just mics to the behringer. If you need to pan anything you can just do it in your DAW. The 404 is great for the price btw!

@@newcastlemusicstudios thanks for the reply. Technics 1210 Mk2’s are the turntables I’m using. Disclosed my setup because I wasn’t sure if that factored in. But super appreciate the help
It will work just fine by using the XLR Outputs and Inputs correct?
Yes you can turn your Interface Knob gain to 0. The mixer signal is strong enough.
Xlr and 1/4 both work. Most cheaper mixers have 1/4 inch.. that why I used 1/4 inch inputs instead of XLR for the Demo.
I want to use a Y cable to go from the 2 outputs of the mixer to one input on my audio interface. Is there a problem with doing this?
No the cable should convert the mixer stereo signal to a Mono Signal. If the mixer Pan knobs arent setup for stereo, it really makes no difference.
@@newcastlemusicstudios This mixer doesn't even have panning, which I sort of regretted after buying it that being said, do I even need the Y, could I just go left out put to interface or would it be lacking or lofi or thin sounding???
Can this be done with a focusrite solo?
Yes it can.
I have a Scarlett Solo. Is it possible to connect a multiple channel mixer on a single instrument input on my audio interface ?
Yes all channels will just become one mono channel. Like 8 channels with 8 microphones will all be tracked onto one mono signal in your DAW for example.

Shall I use a mono cable for..?
Yes 2 mono cables for stereo etc.
newb question- what's the benefit of an audio interface? Is is necessary?
Yes it is necessary for Recording music on your PC. There are a variety of Audio Interface types.... Such as audio interface mixer hybrid, mobile interfaces 1 channel, 2 channel interfaces etc. The audio interface converts the Analog instrument or vocal Signal into a Digital Signal that your DAW can properly track/record. This partocular video demonstrates how to expand your channels if you are stuck with a cheap 1 or 2 channel audio interface, by connecting to a Audio Mixer with say 16 channels, so you have enough inputs for all your microphpnes to record Drums or a Live Band etc.
Hey, is it possible to fully use let's say a 6 channel mixer into a 2 channel interface to record drums?
Yes possible. That basically means you have 6 microphones you can use and still set everyrhing into Stereo. But aside from EQ in Post production that stereo mix will not be changeable. Meaning whatever you set cannot be changed in the DAW.
@@newcastlemusicstudios thank you so much, I'll test it out!! :)
Yep. I have 10 mics through a mixer into an interface to record drums. Takes a lot of tweaking to get the sound right going in but it works. If you want to add more mics you can piggy back 2 mixers together instead of buying a larger more expensive mixer. 2 behringer 1202's would be like 200 bucks and you would get 8 mic preamps and 7 other inputs if piggy backed.
how do i create a more channel interface? because this interface will send only two channels to my DAW and i need more channels
If you want more channels. Buy a 8 or 12 channel mixer. Just remember it send all 8 channels as 1 Stereo Ouput. You can also buy a larger interface like a 6i6 which will send every input individually with the correct focusrite software.
@@newcastlemusicstudios will this work with presonus audio box?
@@Ahla-et yes as long as it has InPuts.
I want to connect my mic to the interface, then use the monitor outputs to put into a multitrack recorder, can I do that? My computer is in another room away from my studio...
Yes you can do that. Just use 2 1/4 inch cables running from the interface monitor outputs, then connect them to the Inputs on the multitrack Recorder. Why though? What's the point? Why not just go Directly into your Multitrack Recorder? Are you trying to make 2 copies? Analog and digital?

Hi there I have a new Pyle 6ch. mixer I'm going from my radio into the (send) jack on the mixer audio sounds fine in the studio but people say it real low when broadcasting. Send knob is set at 9oclock gained & levels at 12 o'clock FX levels 8 o'clock. I'm thinking I have this hooked up wrong & should not be going into send jack but output jack instead.
What do you think? Thanks
I don't own that mixer. So it's hard for me to tell. It sounds correct. You can turn up the gain until -3db when it touches yellow.. unless it sounds bad. The issue maybe your "Send" input may work like and aux send and be picking up noise from the channels. But maybe not. If you are broadcasting live on the internet is your interface at a proper level or is the Computer possibly lowering the volume?
Which mixer Model #?
Pyle Pmxu63bt
"send" usually means the Signal is leaving the mixer... Not going in. That looks like my aux send return setup. Sometimes those Inputs pickup noise from the channels. My mixer has a basic RCA "In". You could also use the channel inputs on the mixer with a split 1/4 inch stereo cables then Use the PAN Knobs Left and Right for a stereo connection. It's hard to Diagnose why it's quiet to your listeners If what you are hearing is at a normal level. That sounds more like the website you are streaming on is turning down the Signal. Just do a test using a different device to see if altering your gain changes it.
@@miguelsalami that's actually pretty cool man. Well the "return" is where you plug in to "return" the processed signal on a guitar pedal or compressor.

How do I connect so I can use my faders on mixer?
The same way in the video. Just LOOK FOR A
MAIN MIX OUTPUT on your ddj-xp2.
Your faders wouldnt have much use in recording. Those are more for live mixing. Unless youbare trying to record a live show. Then typically your main mix is hooked up to the Stereo Monitors.
Why didn’t you use the XLR mais out from the mixer?
You can if you want. The 1/4s are line level so should be a smoother transition since they amped up less than the XLR. However on this interface I also heard it automatically detects line and mic level signals. But I forget. The Main Reason is most people watching these video have a 4 channel behringer mixer with No XLR outputs just 1/4 inch outputs. So they can understand the process easier.
@@newcastlemusicstudios my interface has a line/instrument switch. Can I use xlr>xlr? Or xlr>trs?
@@bolhico yes you can, just always start with your interface Gain/volume knob at Zero and slowly turn it up to find the right amount of Gain so you don't clip.
Is this going to record every channel separately?
No, either stereo or mono depending on your pan knobs and interface.
@@newcastlemusicstudios so how can i connect my 8 channel mixer into my 8 channel sound to record multitrack?
@@-dale2051 most mixers only have a stereo output as they are designed for live use. If you want multitrack separate tracking into your DAW, that is specific to the Audio Interface Software. For example Focusrite has its 6i6 and up series that comes with a piece of software that allows you yo track/route everything separately. The issue eith connecting a mixer/ is thr mixer already mixes everything down into a mono or stereo output making that impossible with this specific setup. This setup is aimed at helping people expand their Inputs to record more Mics like Drums etc. So dont use a mixer and go mic direct to your interface and make sure you have the correct interface withe the correct routing software i.e. scarlett 6i6, scarlett 8i8 etc. There are other interfaces out there that do it also, dont know all the names.
Where shud we connect a guitar if I have to??
You connect your guitar the mixer also. Use the 1\4 inch inputs on your mixer. The Guitar should have its own Channel & Input.
example:
channel 1 -Microphone
channel 2 - guitar
channel 3 - keyboard
Thank u:)
Why won't anyone use a 18i20 and show how to route
Good point. Mainly because of price. You can buy a used mixer for like $50 and interface for $100 versus $400-$600 . If I had the money I'd buy one n make that video
why do you use stereo cable when the outs and ins are mono ? isnt it a waste of stereo cable? is there a specific reason?
Because you can create a Stereo Sound with the Pan Knobs on the mixer. For example Lead guitar channel 1,. Rhythm guitar Channel 2. Channel 1 Pan all the way Left , channel 2 pan all the way Right. So when you record you can have 2 seperate tracks in your DAW. But yes you can just connect 1 cable and have a Mono connection/recording if that's what you want.
@@newcastlemusicstudios you mean like that the 2 guitar are recorded separately (not mixed together) but still in stereo with two separate tracks ?. isn't the input 1 and 2 of focusrite just usable as mono in recording? you will need to double your sound later if you pan your guitar as you said, on you software when you select Stereo it sums input 1 and input 2.... the two input are not usable separately as stereo.... am i wrong?
what i would do is to connect both LEft and Right output to both input 1 and 2 of focusrite but using 2 cable jack mono.... not stereo.... when you pan to one side then you will have yes a separate track but recorded in mono, you will hear that track only from left or only from right....
so to use stereo is useless.... am i wrong? im talking about the single cables you are using.... 2 stereo cables wchich connect channels which works in mono.
@@LazarusGordon no it is not useless. I think you may be confused on what I said in the video. Each Cable is just a Mono Cable . To make a Stereo Connection you need 2 mono cables. You need to utilize both outputs on the back of the mixer "Main Outputs" to create a Stereo. Connection . Now if you interface is just a "MONO" SINGLE INPUT INTERFACE. Then this setup is not possible. That is why I have 3 videos explaining this. One video I use a Scarlett Solo with a Mono interface Setup and in this Video I am Utilizing the Scarlet 2i2 specifically to demonstrate how to make a Stereo (2-Left/Right) Connection between the Mixer and the Audio interface. People like mixing music In Stereo because it expands the dynamics of the Sonic Quality in a Song for example 2 people singing one on the left speaker one on the right speaker and maybe a Chorus in Mono covering both speakers aka "middle." It can make a boring or poorly mixed song more interesting. You should read up a little on the Purpose of Stereo Mixes if you would like to know more. Thanks
Does it require external power?
the audio interface uses 5volt power from your PC, the mixer in the video uses a standard 110 volt power cord.
@@newcastlemusicstudios Thanks for replying, I have one doubt.
What if I just want to connect mirrorless camera to audio interface to mixer? How to power up the interface then?
Salve., ho una scarlet 2i2 terza generazione, ed un mix proel 6M, puoi dirmi per favore, come collegarlo correttamente per registrare, con Audacity? Grazie magari con delle immagini, non so parlare inglese scusami... Buona giornata
Collega l'interfaccia con usb. Quindi, scarica i "driver focusrite" e installali. In Audacity, controlla nell'angolo in alto a sinistra per ("Analogue 1 + 2 focusrite") * fai clic su di esso. Se non vedi che ... i tuoi ("Driver") non sono installati correttamente!

@@newcastlemusicstudios Grazie MA devo mettere i cavi bilanciati? Oppure mono?
@@ernestovella8797 Stereo o mono è solo una scelta. Entrambi funzioneranno.Entrambi sono buoni. Mono per chitarra.... Per esempio.Bilanciato è un tipo di cavo. Stereo spesso utilizzato per 1 microfono 1 cavo per chitarra.Se si registra solo un microfono mono.... Modificare l'impostazione su Mono nell'app Audacity, nella traccia effettiva.
If the Behringer already has a USB output, then why bother connecting it to a Scarlett?
It is an Alto Mixer. There are a few reasons. Reason #1 LATENCY ISSUES. There is no Direct Monitoring switch on this mixer board... So it lags behind which makes it impossible to record with when the Drum beat is coming from a DAW VST or anything else you are playing in time with. The mixer is fine to record live performance, say a trio or small band that isnt using any pre recorded tracks to play along with from a DAW.
If you decide to get a Mixer USB Interface Combination, make sure it has "DIRECT MONITORING" or you will be dissapointed. They do exist and they typically cost $400+ and up.
