Wow. I've watched hundreds of videos trying to learn how to connect things together. It was never clear in my mind. You made it sooooooo easy and clear. THANK YOU!!
I love that Yamaha mixer. It is highly durable and completely underrated. The sound that it pushes out is just about perfect to be able to create a good mix.
100%
It works like a charm and the preamps are pretty good enough for my home setup and my live music setup too.
I ve played nearly every week with that mixer live since 2012.
Couple that with a zoom h1 and I can record all those live gigs on the fly.
I'm so glad you covered the audiobox, couldn't find anything on it anywhere.
Finally a video that say there's 2 ways to connect. Other video only showed 1 way, mixer to audio interface. This video is what i'm looking for. Thanks True Sound Studios!
Thanks, you covered all my questions basically.
Finally ---- a video on this subject that was not shot in a trash dump. Your studio looks organized. Organized studio - organized mind. Good video.
Best method and descript I have seen to date!
thank you so much for the simplicity with which you explained everything. really useful video
I can't thank you enough for this. I've been searching for a video for hours to try and work out both methods and whats the best way for live streaming / performing with a DAW & backing track. you made this really straight forward. THANKS!
Thanks a lot. You made it very clear.
Thanks! I checked app. 30 RUclips videos and try to understand, how to connect Audio Interface to mixer and play backing tracks. You explained it excellent!
Good to explain difference between instrument and line levels and the cable difference.
Awesome room setup!
Nice tutorial - Thanks!
Duuude , you´re the first Guy who show how connect an Audio Interface to a Mixer via TRS. I use a SSL2+ Interface and a Behringer X1622 Mixer. It sounds awesome but the Winner is The Behringer Mixer because it allowes me to connect also a Streaming PC too Just with unballanced Mono on Stereo Cables. Never connect a Behringer Mixer
via USB because the ASIOFORALL Drivers are crap! Mixers dont need integrated USB Interfaces because they work mutch better without.
Hoy dont know how yo use Asio Drivers.
Your videos are so clean despite it being 1080p!
Very good explanation. Clear and detailed. Better than most.
Thank you for all your help
Thanks for watching!
for a cheap mixer those yamaha mg series are great. i have an old yamaha mg12 that has been used as a headphone amp and run my monitors through it so i can pull the fader..done that for years. the other day i thought I would try out the preamps..been a decade since i last used it with a mic. surprised how quiet they were and how nice the eq sounded. now put it back into service with a couple of trs running into my interface..motu 828mk3..nice to have a few extra options..like Christmas day all over again just by using my old mixer..love it.
thanks man! i have same yamaha mixer for 15 years now its a great little piece. i was struggling to connect it to my id22. thanks
Thank you 🔥🔥💯🙏🏼
great Work
Thank you so much.
u got new sub, cheers
thanks bro.
Amazing video man! I think I found what I needed! I just want to make sure though here..I'm wanting to record, podcast and livestream my music/guitar lessons with a Yamaha mg12xu and focusrite 8i6. If I understand correctly, I could just use setup #2 for all of that?
COOL Dude
Subscribed!
Thanks for this great and very well explained video! You take a lot of ??? out of the why use a mixer at all question. By the way; you have a very nice and pleasant voice to listen to!
excellent
Thank you, very clear, simple and useful video. One question. For the option 2 the signal you send to the audio interface can be EQed or in any way is flat even if you thouch the tones knobs
?
Thank you bro
Any time
You the Boss, I need your mentorship in audio engineering, thanks
Hello Weznaa. Your explanation was very insightful, thank you. I got one question, I have the Volt 276 as audio interface, does it use the stereo type cable or the unbalanced one?
well and clearly explained only what should you do if your audio interface only has a mic/line 1 input and inst 2 (for instruments) e.g. the u-phoria umc 22 then it is not possible to do left and right when i use a orchestra wants to record with all their equipment at the mixer (without usb) with audio interface is there a solution for that?
Great tutorial video, thanks! Question: after connecting my Yamaha MG/12-4FX analog mixer to my Steinberg UR22MKII interface, how do I now connect my two small JBL powered monitors?
Nice video 📹
Great video. Would you recommend this setup with a audio mixer that already has a usb connection? For example, the Yamaha mg10xu which comes with a usb connection to computer
Love your instructions. Trying to setup my home studio as a spin instructor. Plan to use my iphone x to record. My budget is low so I'm being thrifty. I'm looking to route my music e.g. spotify either through my interface/mixer or vice versa. What would be the easiest method. I have a TASCAM 2X2 w/Behringer 802.
Great Video, I considering three options to make my Yamaha MC32/12 Analog Mixer to Digital using an X Air XR16, S/PDIF and a Snake, Finally an interface. What are your thoughts look forward to hearing about this. Thanks
will there be any loss of quality when running your signals through a mixer before it gets to the audio interface? The reason I'm asking is I don't know whether to get a mixer, or actually replace my interface with one that has more inputs.
thank u so much.. if it's possible can u do a tutorial of connecting soundcraft notepad or mixer to an interface.. ?
Thank you. Keep making videos. I need your help.
Absolutely, thanks for watching!
I have a Pyle PMUX6 interface and it has guitar inputs as well as a 3.5mm “stereo in”. Should I send from the mixer via the 3.5mm stereo in, or use the guitar input jacks?
We have a Soundcraft Si Impact mixer operating as mono for church. We can’t figure out how to get the sound out to computer except with the headphone jack with TRS cable into a USB dongle soundcard. Could a mono mix come out of one of the XLR ports on the back and somehow be converted to proper leg and right channels into the computer?
Thanks! Then I need to record just one mic- should i record in mono or in stereo? In your second setup mic goes to the stereo pair being recorded..
Hi Sir, can i ask if i can apply this on our live setup. Our sound is ok when it comes to live band but not that good when the audio sends to the interface to zoom meeting. We are currently using mixer>audio interface (focusrite)>zoom meeting. Our monitor speaker also connected to the audio interface. What setup can you recommend to us? Thank you 😊
Hey, big question, could be simple for you but i need help. How do i use it for both? recording off the mixer but sending signal to interface, but ALSO using mixer for two monitors plus subwoofer. thanks
Hey man. Im using the same UX1 and the reason for me wanting this setup is so that I can have phantom power on my mic. Does it work seamlessly activating the phantom power and using a condenser mic? I dont want to blow up my UX1. I really should have bought the UX2 when I bought mine because that has phantom power. Would really appreciate a reply. This has been bothering me for days
Does it make sense to connect a Yamaha 12 channel mixer to a Universal Audio Apollo X4 to have more inputs? Are any of the properties of the interface lost with this connection? Or, do the mixer gains the interface properties?
What about if you want to record, but at the same time, to output the sound through a P.A system for a live gig?
Hi question …… can I have both of these setup, set up at the same time while recording? I’m using ProFX 12 v2 Mackie mixer with PreSonus Studio & Behringer ADA8200 Interface. With setup one will I be able to hear the play back while recording? Excellent video! Thank you.
Compared to mine, your mixing board makes me feel inadequate lol. I have a Scarlett 4i4. Can I keep my mic in the interface while still using methods one? Cheers mate.
Thank you very much for the Infos !!
To get a better record: do you think is better to use an usb mixer like yamaha mg 10xu
Or use a mixer like mg10 and connect it to an audio interface like audient id14 or motu m4?????
Will I be able to connect this mixer to digidesign 003rack?
Thanks, Weezna! I'm thinking that maybe it would be a good idea to buy a Yamaha MG10 (in any of its presentations) to leave all my instruments and microphones connected to my home studio and output it in stereo to the inputs of two of the channels of my interface.. .. Do you think it could be a good idea? Best regards and thanks again!
Can I use XLR cable in place of un balanced audio bales to connect Yamaha Mixer to pre-sonus interface?
I want to use a Y cable to go from the 2 outputs of the mixer to one input on my audio interface. Is there a problem with doing this? I'm using the mixer for 3 rack toms, they don't need to be stereo.
I have a mgp24x that I'm trying to connect to the focusrite to run to my computer to record the audio. I can't figure out how to do it. Would you be able to assist me please?
So because you only have 1 "Main Out" you can't connected the "Main Out" to speakers (Like in set up 1) as well using the "Main Out" as input to the interface (Like in set up 2)? Is there anyway around it? Can you connect everything at once? and just change where your main out is connected to when need be?
Can you share brand and links!to buy yellow, red and blue TRS cables? Thanks much
Hi friend, i have an ipad pro and i want to connect the ipad to audio interface then connect a keyboard then an audio mixer then two speakers how is the setup of this hardware. This is for live performance in the church
Would a DI box help if the interface only has mic/instrument inputs and no line inputs?
Hi ! I would like to know how to connect my I pod, to interface 276 volts.,they have sound but I like karaoke in you tube, is not working.they said I need mp 3,
Hi. I see you used balanced cables from the interface outputs left and right to the mixer stereo channel. I used unbalanced and never got any signal coming through but connected it to the mixer mono channels 1 and 2 respectively. Is it cause I used the wrong type of cables? Is it possible to send for example a drum track from my DAW to my mixer, eq it a but on my mixer and send it back to my DAW? I tried but to no avail.
hey . do how to sync interface and dslr camera for recording.
Can you do a Video on How to Connect your Mixer into your Interface and Back to the Mixer then to the Interface again to Stop Latency PLEASE !
What's the difference between using trs or ts on the line out?
🙏🏿💯
You can also plug a standard 1/4 in patch cable into the insert of preamp channle on your mixer (only to the first click not all the way, it will become a send) and the other end into your interface / instrument input that will run to your daw. Then output from the daw back to the mixer/ tape in or aux in with the blend knob of the interface turned all the wat to playback and have zero latency for recording as well. Effectively doing the blending on the outboard mixer.
Can I ask why you would want to do this? I'm asking because I think I might want to do this but I'm not sure what the purpose is if you could provide more detail that would be sick
@@who_we_are______5926 by getting the feed from pre recorded audio from the daw into the mixer and the signal from whats being recoreded into the mixer you have effectively zero latency, coming out of the mixer to your speakers or headphones.
I just got my PreSonus AudioBox USB 96 and JBL 3MK5inch and Allen&Heath ZEDFX mixer. Now I need to know how to mix them all. I also have SM58 mike and laptop. Please can you show me.
hi there . i would like to conne.ction between this mixer and boss rc 505 , akai mpk mini .arturia sparkle and my guitar . please help me how
So I'm assuming using the 2TR IN and REC OUT at the same time into the interface I/O will just cause feedback..
I have the Tascam Model 12 and I never got it to work as a DAW interface. I still want to use it so this looks like a solution. However, I have XLR cables going from the Model 12 to a Presonus Studio 24c that also has the XLR input connections. I am going to try this today so I will let you know if something blows up.
Hi I have a Yamaha mg10x and I get interference play karaoke songs from laptop. Help
I'm confused since I have been taught to always record vocals in mono. How do I connect the mixer n interface to record in mono on my DAW
Wouldn't an XLR provide a more robust signal to the interface? I have XLR main outputs on my Mackie board, and my PreSonus Studio 24c interface has the dual XLR/ instrument inputs. Of course, my Mackie has the the 1/4" main outputs as well, but I figure the signal would be stronger with the lower impedance cable. Or am I way off base here?
my Q exactly?
I HAVE A YAMAHA 12 CHANNEL MIXER AND I WANT TO BUY AN APOLLO X4 INTERFACE. IS IT AN INTELLIGENT DECISION TO CONNECT THE MIXER TO THE INTERFACE? OR THAT WOULD MAKE THE INTERFASE LOSE ITS SOPHISTICATED PROPERTIES?
Hi. Would you kindly show me how to connect a Mackie ProFX12v2 with Roland Studio-Capture interface? I followed your guide and connected from the Main L/R out of the ProFX to the Input-1 and Input-2 of the Roland, I could only get the music sound without the vocal. I used two laptops: 1 was to play the music source from a RUclips clip and the other was to record, using a DAW software. The ProFX had an USB interface, and it worked to record directly from the sound board. However, the vocal affected the quality of the music sound when I used the USB. I hope to be able to use the Roland to capture the mixed sound of both vocal and music with a better quality. Thanks so much, and I greatly appreciate it.
👍🏾
i need to know how to connect audiobox 96 to mixer and monitors
How do you make a fousrite work with a PylePro
Can I connect interface headphone output to mixer ?
Great Video, Just curious can I have two I/O interfaces installed in my Computer?
Yup. You'll need to use Asio4All on Windows to configure both, or if you're on Mac, you're lucky, because you can make a composite device in the audio settings.
09:21 - question. Why not have a cable with TRS and XLR so you can take the balanced main out from the mixer and feed that into the XLR on the interface? Would this not work? or is that specific interface only expecting a MIC level signal? but surely one can then adjust the gain in the interface?
I have same question as above
Hi, thank you for the explanation.
Are the stereo outputs of your mixer the same as main outs in a different mixer?
Yes, the stereo outputs on my mixer are also known as the main outputs
@@TrueSoundTV Thank you. Please can you respond to my comment bellow 🙏
how if for zoom meeting live musik use keyboard yamaha
How does a de-esser work?
Awesome demonstration, But I must ask. Would this work with something like the Stereo Outputs on the Yamaha AG06, Or is that output different electrically?
The Stereo Out of the Yamaha is the same ST Out as any other Mixer. But since that Yamaha already has the ability to be used as a Computer Interface, you can use it directly.
@@MannyLeyva ahhh thanks. That's helps
What if you are recording drums and you want all channels to be their own recording to adjust in the DAW? How would you accomplish that? Thanks.
You’ll need an interface with several inputs to record several tracks simultaneously.
As for the second option, how would u send signal to monitors or speakers for a live performance?
You would use the main outputs to run into the PA system power amplifier of powered speakers
@@TrueSoundTV I was told that the mixer I bought, the Yamaha mg16/6fx, needs a power amp to be used by the guy I bought it from. Is that true. And if so, what amp do u recommend. My speakers are Presonus Eris E3.5
Every mixer or mixer with no built in interface??
This method can also be used to set up zoom calls and meetings right? If so this is great!
Yes it could be!
Hi, i need your advice on how to get the most of my Motu M4 and my very old Mackie 1604 vlz pro mixer for recording in my software (studio one).
If you can explain to me a few things as they confuse me a lot!
Especially about panning the instruments for recording.
Let's have different situations where i record only myself (one vocal mic and one mic for acoustic guitar or electric) and another with others musicians (vocal, bass, electric gtr, e-drums).
It's the panning and the mono vs stereo and busses and all of that that really turn my head upside down!
Please i need you help!
Hey, so yes dealing with mono instruments is definitely tricky. I promise I will do a video on this in the next few weeks but till then here’s some quick advice. I always double track my acoustic guitars and electric guitar rhythms. This way I can hard pan them right/left in parts of the song where I want the track to be very wide. I always leave kick drum, snare drum, main vocals, and bass down the center of the mix. The drum overheads, room mics, and back up vocals are usually wide to very wide depending on the type of track.
@@TrueSoundTV Wow that would be perfect thank you 😇
What if my mixing console stereo outs are occupied with main speakers, but I need anyway to send audio to USB audio interface? No other stereo outs on mixer. What am I supposed to do? This is my real life situation, not just a question.
What kind of mixer do you have? Most mixers have more than one output.
Worst case scenario what we did in the 80s and 90s was when recording we use the outs for just that. After recording we unplug the recording cables and plug in the speakers to start mixing.
Another way to do it is to get a y jack and plug it into your headphones jack and use that for your speakers while using the main outs for your input recording.
There are many ways to flip this script.
awesome but help me please. i have MACKIE Ultra-Compact Analog Mixer MIX8 , Focusrite 2i2, and boss RC 505 how can make a connection between them and also with the computer.pleaaaase
Line outs from the RC 505 to line ins on the mixer (if you use channels 3 and 4 or 5 and 6 instead of the first two, you can still plug in two XLR mics). The main outs on the mixer connect to your Focusrite. The Focusrite connects by USB (looks like type "c") to your computer, but it probably works fine with USB 2.0 so you probably need a type C to type A connector (one might be provided). As long as you stay on unity gain on the mixer channels you're using, same on the "main mix" and keep your interface inputs at the lowest gain setting you should be fine, assuming the RC 505 outputs at a decent level. I don't own a Focusrite so check your manual.
@@nimrodery love you man. great and helpful
Hi Weezna thanks for responding , t is your I've found alot of guys post videos but hardly ever respond.I was curious as to your charging $50 an hour I was into Hiphop and doing voice over beats for $20 a pop , I'am more a mixing Engineer , but I do have basic experance in recording what is your opion between charging by the hour compared to charging by the session or song.
Yeah I am only one person, so between running the studio, working with all my clients, making RUclips videos, running social media pages for the studio, it is a crazy amount of work for one person. For a very long time I was charging by the hour, but now everything I do is just buy song. I find that most people wanted to rush me to get things done which ultimately compromises quality slightly. Now it’s a flat rate, so if I spend longer than expected, it’s something I have to deal with
I'am sure you've been asked this many times , but how can I get clients and how do you run Social media for your studio , I'am almost 70 and I've been trying to run my studio correctly I have confidence in my work I was a Musician for many years anyway , I don't mean to bother you but I like what you do.
i heard you mention you were Looking for help, any chance I can help ( no pay ) just experience
Sir please explain about input
Connection.. In setup number 1.....
I don't know if i can explain it any better than in the video, that's all i got
Hi Weezna first I'd like to say how much I enjoy your videos. I was Looking for your Email but couldn't find it. I have a MACKIE SR40-8bus console. and I'd like to connect it up but I need some help. I'd appreciate it.
Yeah my email is in the description box below any video! Also you can find me on instagram or facebook. Thanks for watching
I have an active mixing board that powers my speakers. What would be the best way to run that?
depending on what your doing, you can pretty much use either way!
@@TrueSoundTV so it won’t damage anything if I run it into my audio interface?
@@Spaceman429 so you cannot use the speaker output to connect to your interface, but there should be some sort of MAIN output on your mixer. You can use the main/master line outputs, and aux output, or even the headphone output, just NOT THE SPEAKER OUTPUTS
